An MCO shuttle is the cheapest door-to-door option for a solo traveller: the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority lists shared shuttle vans to International Drive at about US$21 per person one way, charged per person. A private car costs more for one person and less per head for a group: an Elly8.net Business Sedan from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to International Drive is US$155 fixed for up to three passengers, and a Business SUV is US$205 for up to six.
The difference is not just price. A shared shuttle runs to a schedule, can stop at other hotels and loads on the Ground Transportation Curb. A pre-booked chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you inside arrivals with a name board and goes straight to one door. This guide puts the airport's published numbers side by side with ours, district by district, and says plainly when each option is the better buy.
Is an MCO shuttle cheaper than a private car?
For one or two travellers, yes. The airport lists a shared shuttle van to International Drive at about US$21 per person one way. For three or more, the gap narrows: three shuttle seats cost about US$63, a taxi about US$38 to US$45 metered, and an Elly8.net Business Sedan US$155 fixed and all-in.
Those shuttle and taxi numbers come from the airport's own ground transportation rates table, which lists approximate fares to each main district. The airport's shuttle van page adds that shuttle fares are charged per person and that you should check with the attendant for round-trip fares and children's rates. Our prices are per vehicle and include the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet; tolls and parking are billed at cost.
Rides in Orlando are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.

The airport's own numbers, district by district
The table below copies the airport's approximate rates for shared shuttle vans (per person, one way and round trip), taxis and the local bus, for the districts most visitors stay in.
| District | Shared shuttle van (per person) | Taxi (metered estimate) | Local bus |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Drive area | US$21 one way / US$33 round trip | US$38 to US$45 | US$2 |
| Downtown Orlando | US$20 / US$32 | US$38 to US$45 | US$2 |
| Lake Buena Vista area | US$23 / US$37 | US$47 to US$55 | US$2 |
| Disney Resorts area | US$23 / US$37 | US$52 to US$68 | US$4 |
| Kissimmee hotels | US$29 / US$49 | US$45 to US$75 | US$2 |
| Winter Park / Maitland | US$29 / US$49 | US$45 to US$55 | US$2 |
Source: MCO approximate rates. For comparison, Elly8.net's published MCO to International Drive fare is US$155 in a Business Sedan, US$205 in a Business SUV, US$250 in a First Class SUV, US$275 in a First Class Sedan and US$405 in an Executive Sprinter. Other districts are quoted as fixed prices in the web booker. The full panel is on the Orlando car service page.
Two notes from the airport's taxi page matter for the comparison. Taxis may carry up to nine passengers and charge the same rate regardless of the number, and taxis picking up at the airport must use the meter, so flat rates are not authorized and the estimates can rise in traffic.
The cost per head for real travel parties
Because shuttles charge per person and private cars per vehicle, the answer depends on the size of the group. Here is the International Drive arithmetic, one way, using the airport's estimates and our published fares.
| Travel party | Shared shuttle | Taxi (estimate) | Elly8.net private car |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 traveller | about US$21 | about US$38 to US$45 | US$155 Business Sedan |
| 2 travellers | about US$42 | about US$38 to US$45 | US$155 Business Sedan |
| 4 travellers | about US$84 | about US$38 to US$45 | US$205 Business SUV |
| 6 travellers | about US$126 | about US$38 to US$45 | US$205 Business SUV |
| 10 travellers | about US$210 | two cabs, or one large cab | US$405 Executive Sprinter |
The honest reading: on price alone, the taxi is the best value for most groups of two to six who do not need child seats and travel light, and the shuttle is the best value for one person. A private car never wins on the lowest number. It wins on the things the numbers in the table leave out, set out below.
Wait time: what happens after you land
Shared shuttle. You collect bags, find the shuttle desk or the loading spaces on the Ground Transportation Curb (Level 1) and wait for a departure. The airport lists the shuttle loading spaces at A19 to A21, B76 to B78 and C200 to C204. A shuttle may wait to fill seats or stop at several hotels on the way, so the total trip time is less predictable than the drive time.
Taxi. You queue at the rank on Level 1 at Terminals A and B, or on the Arrivals Curb (Level 6) at Terminal C. Queues move quickly most of the time, and can grow when several large flights land together.
App ride. You walk to the rideshare curb, which the airport's rideshare page places on Level 2 at Terminals A and B and on Level 6 at Terminal C, and wait for a match. Prices are not published and change with demand.
Pre-booked chauffeur. The chauffeur tracks the flight, waits inside the arrivals area with a name board and walks you to the vehicle. You get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, so a delay is the chauffeur's problem, not yours. For a late-night landing, that certainty is worth a lot. Our airport meet and greet page explains the details.
Comfort, bags and children
A shared shuttle is a van with other passengers and their bags. For a solo traveller with a carry-on, it is fine. For a family with car seats, a stroller and five cases, it is a squeeze, and child seats are not guaranteed; check with the operator.
A private car is sized to your party. The sedans take up to three passengers and two bags, the SUVs up to six and six, and the Executive Sprinter up to twelve and twelve, according to our fleet page. Child seats are available on request and fitted before pickup. For family trips to the Disney area, our MCO Disney shuttle vs private car guide works through the numbers for families of four, five and six.
The other options from MCO: bus, train and SunRail
LYNX local bus. The airport's local bus page lists LYNX service from Terminal A, Level 1, at US$2 per ride or US$4.50 all day, to destinations including Downtown Orlando, the Orange County Convention Center, SeaWorld and the Florida Mall. It is the cheapest option and a good one for a traveller with a carry-on and time.
SunRail. The airport's SunRail page says riders connect to the airport by bus to the Sand Lake Road SunRail station, and that SunRail runs Monday to Friday. It suits commuters more than visitors with luggage.
Brightline. The MCO Train Station has Brightline trains to West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura and Miami, daily between about 5 a.m. and 11 p.m., according to the airport's Brightline page. For South Florida, it is a genuine alternative to a long drive; our Miami car service and Fort Lauderdale car service pick up at the other end.
When the shuttle is the right call, and when it is not
Take the shared shuttle, the bus or a taxi when:
- You are travelling alone or as a couple with light bags.
- You land in the daytime and are not in a hurry.
- Saving money matters more than a fixed arrival time.
Book a private car when:
- Your flight lands late. At night, supply is thinner and waiting is less pleasant.
- You travel with children who need seats, or with a stroller and many bags.
- You are a group of four or more who want to arrive together at one door.
- You have a meeting or an event soon after landing. Our Orlando executive car service guide covers business arrivals.
- You are going to a cruise ship. The airport's cruise transfers page describes Port Canaveral as a 42-mile route and notes that taxis charge per trip while shuttles charge per person; our MCO to Port Canaveral guide covers the timing.
- You want the price fixed before you fly. No meter, no surge.

What the estimates leave out
The airport's figures are approximate and one way. A fair comparison counts a few extra items on both sides:
- The return trip. Shuttles are usually booked both ways, so a round-trip seat is the true cost. Our round trip between MCO and International Drive runs from US$295 in a Business Sedan to US$770 in an Executive Sprinter, on one reservation.
- Tips. Taxi and shuttle estimates do not include a tip. Our fares include the standard gratuity.
- Traffic. A metered taxi rises in slow traffic; the airport says the metered rate may vary from its estimates. Our price does not move.
- Tolls and parking. On our bookings these are billed at cost, so a route on the toll roads adds the toll and nothing else.
- Time. A shuttle that stops at three hotels before yours costs nothing extra in dollars but can cost you the first hour of a short trip.
None of this changes the verdict for a solo traveller on a budget: the shuttle or the bus is the sensible buy. It does change the verdict for a family of five on a late flight.
If you land at Sanford
Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) is about 37 miles (60 km) north of International Drive, around 53 minutes on a clear road. The airport's taxis, shuttles and rides page places the pickup zone for rideshares, taxis and pre-arranged shuttles across the street from Baggage Claim areas 1 to 3. Our SFB to International Drive fares run from US$275 in a Business Sedan to US$715 in an Executive Sprinter. On a long transfer, the per-vehicle price makes a private car more attractive for groups.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the shuttle from MCO to International Drive?
The airport's approximate rates table lists a shared shuttle van to the International Drive area at about US$21 per person one way or US$33 round trip. Fares are per person, and the airport suggests checking with the attendant for children's rates. An Elly8.net Business Sedan for up to three is US$155 fixed.
Where do shuttles leave from at MCO?
Shared shuttle vans load on the Ground Transportation Curb (Level 1): spaces A19 to A21 at Terminal A, B76 to B78 at Terminal B and C200 to C204 at Terminal C, according to the airport. A pre-booked chauffeur meets you inside arrivals instead, so you do not need to find the loading area.
Is a taxi cheaper than a shuttle for a family?
Often, yes. The airport says taxis charge the same rate regardless of the number of passengers, up to nine. The International Drive taxi estimate is about US$38 to US$45 metered, compared with about US$84 for four shuttle seats. Bring your own child seats or check with the cab company.
Why pay more for a private car?
For flight tracking, a chauffeur inside arrivals, complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, child seats on request, a vehicle sized to your bags and a price fixed before you fly. For a solo traveller in the daytime these may not be worth it; for late flights, families and groups they usually are.
Does the private car stop at other hotels?
No. A private car goes directly to your address, or to the stops you add when you book. Shared shuttles may stop at several hotels on the way, which is part of the lower price and part of the longer, less predictable trip time.
Can the return trip to MCO be booked at the same time?
Yes. The published MCO and International Drive round trip runs from US$295 in a Business Sedan to US$770 in an Executive Sprinter, on one reservation. Other addresses are quoted as round trips in the web booker.
