Taking an Uber from Denver airport means walking to Island 5 on Level 5 of the Jeppesen Terminal, requesting the ride once you have your bags, and paying whatever the app quotes at that moment. A taxi from DEN to downtown Denver is a regulated flat rate of US$72.04, including the airport access fee, from Island 1. A pre-booked Elly8.net car is a fixed US$225 in a Business Sedan to LoDo and Union Station, with the chauffeur waiting inside at baggage claim.
That makes Denver an unusual airport: for one to three people going downtown with ordinary luggage, the taxi flat rate is often the best value, and we would tell you so. Rideshare competes at quiet times and loses at busy ones. The private car earns its higher price when the trip is not ordinary: a late arrival, a group, ski bags, children, a meeting, or a company paying the bill.
Is Uber or a taxi cheaper from Denver airport?
For downtown Denver, a taxi is predictable: DEN publishes a flat rate of US$72.04 to downtown (Zone A), airport access fee included. Uber and Lyft prices are set in the app and change with demand, so they can be lower at quiet times and higher at peaks. A pre-booked Elly8.net Business Sedan is US$225, fixed and all-in.
The flat rates exist because Colorado's Public Utilities Commission regulates large-market taxicab service in the Denver metro area. The PUC's passenger carrier page says these taxi rates are PUC-regulated and include flat-rate zones for trips to and from Denver International Airport. Rideshare is different: the PUC's rideshare consumer page says it does not regulate the pricing of rideshare rides, including surge pricing.
The DEN taxi flat rates
Denver International's taxi page lists the flat-rate destinations, each a one-way fare with the airport access fee already included:
| Taxi zone from DEN | Flat rate (one way) | Elly8.net equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown Denver (Zone A) | US$72.04 | DEN to LoDo and Union Station, US$225 Business Sedan |
| Denver Tech Center (Zone B) | US$80.04 | priced in the web booker |
| Boulder (Zone C) | US$115.04 | priced in the web booker |
| Tower Road (Zone D) | US$37.04 | priced in the web booker |
| Cherry Creek Shopping Center (metered) | typically US$75 to US$95, plus a US$6.04 access fee | priced in the web booker |
Two details on the same page are worth knowing. If the taxi company's approved tariff allows it, the flat rate can rise by US$5.00 for each additional drop-off within the same zone. And if the second passenger is dropped outside the zone, the meter runs from the first drop to the second. Anywhere not in a zone is metered.
Taxis pick up from Level 5, Island 1, outside doors 505, 507 and 511 on the east side and 506, 510 and 512 on the west side. There is no app and no booking: you join the line.
How Uber and Lyft work at DEN
DEN's rideshare page is short and practical. Rides are accessed on Island 5 on either side of the terminal, east or west. The airport asks passengers to wait until they have claimed their luggage, or reached Level 5, before requesting a ride, and to use the crosswalks to reach the island. Drivers may not solicit passengers, rides can only be requested in the app, and you should check the plate, make, model and driver name before getting in. Passengers who need extra help can request a curbside pickup on Level 5 near doors 504, 506, 510 or 512 on the west side, or 505, 507, 511 or 513 on the east side.
The price is the variable. A rideshare fare on a 25-mile run moves with demand, and demand at an airport moves with arrival banks, weather and events downtown. We do not publish rideshare prices because nobody can: they are calculated when you request. What is certain is the structure: at a quiet mid-afternoon, an ordinary rideshare may come in close to the taxi flat rate; when several flights land at once on a snowy evening, it may not.
Premium tiers such as Uber Black put a nicer car on the same model. They still pick up at the rideshare island, the price is still set in the app, and the car is matched when you request rather than assigned in advance. Our Uber Black vs a pre-booked chauffeur comparison covers the differences in detail.
What a pre-booked private car changes
An Elly8.net airport transfer is a different product rather than a pricier taxi:
- The price is fixed when you book. DEN to LoDo and Union Station is US$225 in a Business Sedan, US$295 in a Business SUV, US$360 in a First Class SUV, US$395 in a First Class Sedan and US$585 in an Executive Sprinter. Taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet are included; tolls and parking are billed at cost. The same fare applies to the airport.
- Nobody queues. The chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you inside at baggage claim with a name board, and walks you to the car at the limousine area on Level 5, Island 2, listed on DEN's limousine page.
- Delays are covered. Complimentary waiting after a tracked landing means a late flight or a slow carousel does not change the price.
- The vehicle fits the group. Up to three passengers in a sedan, six with six bags in an SUV, twelve with twelve bags in an Executive Sprinter. Child seats are available on request.
- It can be billed. Corporate accounts get monthly invoicing and saved traveller profiles; see Denver executive car service.

Late nights, storms and Boulder
Three situations come up often enough at DEN to deserve their own answer.
Arriving after midnight. The airport's transit page lists RTD bus service from roughly 3:30 a.m. to midnight, with the last bus leaving at 1:28 a.m., so the late-night choice narrows to taxi, rideshare or a pre-booked car. Taxis keep their flat rates at any hour. Rideshare availability depends on how many drivers are around. A pre-booked car is already assigned to your flight, which is the main reason late arrivals book one.
Snow on Peña Boulevard. The roads into the city slow down in a storm, and the arrivals hall fills with delayed passengers at the same moment. The taxi line gets longer, rideshare demand rises, and the 37-minute clear-road run stretches. A fixed price means the extra time on the road is not on your bill.
Boulder. The taxi flat rate to Boulder (Zone C) is US$115.04, and RTD's AB routes run from the airport transit center to Boulder for the price of an Airport Day Pass. Both are good options for one or two people. For a family, a team heading to a campus, or a late flight, the web booker prices a fixed Boulder transfer in an SUV or Sprinter.
Five questions to answer before you leave baggage claim
- How many of us, and how many bags? Four adults with checked bags can be a tight fit in a standard car.
- Where exactly are we going? Inside a taxi zone, the flat rate is hard to beat. Outside it, the meter or the app sets the price.
- What time is it, and what is the weather? Late nights and storms favour a pre-booked car.
- Is anyone under booster-seat age? Child seats are available on request with a pre-booked car.
- Who is paying? A company that wants one invoice and a record of each trip is better served by an account.
When each one is the right call
Take the taxi if you are one to three people going downtown, to the Tech Center or to Boulder, with normal luggage, and you are happy to join the line. The flat rate is regulated and published; it is genuinely good value.
Take Uber or Lyft if you are going somewhere outside the taxi zones at a quiet time, you are travelling light, and you would rather see a price in the app than join a taxi line. Request after you have your bags, as the airport asks.
Take the train if you are alone with a carry-on and staying near Union Station. The A Line needs an RTD Airport Day Pass, which DEN's transit center page lists at US$10. Our DIA airport shuttle vs private car guide covers the train and shuttles in depth.
Book a private car if any of these apply: you land late at night or on a storm evening; there are four or more of you; you have ski, golf or equipment bags; you need child seats; you are going straight to a meeting; you are continuing to the mountains; or someone else is paying and wants one invoice. In those cases the taxi and rideshare savings shrink or disappear, and the certainty is worth more.
Going the other way, the same logic holds. The taxi flat rates apply between the zones and DIA, rideshare prices still move with demand at busy departure times, and an Elly8.net car is the same fixed price to the airport as from it. Our Denver to DIA by private car guide covers departure timing and drop-off on Level 6.
How to book a private car at DEN
- Enter DEN with your flight number and your drop-off address. Addresses on the price list show a Reserve now button on the Denver fares panel; anything else is priced in the web booker.
- Choose the vehicle by passengers and bags, and add child seats if needed.
- Reserve. Confirmation arrives by email, then the chauffeur's name and phone number before pickup.
Rides in Denver are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Frequently asked questions
Where is the Uber pickup at Denver airport?
Uber and Lyft pick up on Island 5, Level 5 of the Jeppesen Terminal, on both the east and west sides. DEN asks passengers to request the ride only after collecting bags or reaching Level 5, and to use the crosswalks. Passengers who need help can request curbside pickup near the listed Level 5 doors.
How much is a taxi from Denver airport to downtown?
US$72.04 to downtown Denver (Zone A), a flat one-way fare with the airport access fee included, according to DEN. The Tech Center is US$80.04, Boulder US$115.04 and Tower Road US$37.04. Other destinations are metered, plus a US$6.04 airport access fee.
Is Uber cheaper than a taxi from DEN?
Sometimes. Rideshare prices are calculated in the app when you request and move with demand, and the Colorado PUC does not regulate rideshare pricing or surge. At quiet times an ordinary ride may be close to the taxi flat rate; at busy times it can be higher. The taxi zone fares do not surge.
Why pay more for a private car?
For certainty and fit. The Elly8.net price is fixed when you book, the chauffeur waits inside at baggage claim with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, and the vehicle matches your group and bags, with child seats on request. For groups, late arrivals and company travel, the gap narrows or reverses.
Can a group of six with ski bags book one car?
Yes. A Business SUV takes up to six passengers and six bags, and DEN to LoDo is US$295 fixed for the vehicle, about US$49 each. For up to twelve people, the Executive Sprinter is US$585. Mountain addresses are priced in the web booker.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free more than 72 hours before pickup. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less, or for a no-show, 100%. Refunds go back to the original card.
