A Lake Tahoe car service from Elly8.net takes you from Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) to South Lake Tahoe at a fixed, all-in price. The one-way fare runs from US$385 in a Business Sedan to US$1,005 in an Executive Sprinter, and the round trip from US$735, with the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet included.
Tahoe is a mountain destination, and the drive is the part of the trip that changes with the season. In summer it is a scenic climb over the Carson Range; in a winter storm it can mean chain controls, slow traffic and a closed pass. Rides in Lake Tahoe are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
How much is a car from Reno airport to Lake Tahoe?
An Elly8.net car from Reno-Tahoe International (RNO) to South Lake Tahoe costs from US$385 in a Business Sedan, US$505 in a Business SUV and US$1,005 in an Executive Sprinter for groups. The round trip starts at US$735. Prices are fixed and all-in; tolls, parking and extra waiting are billed at cost.
RNO is about 58 miles (93 km) from South Lake Tahoe, roughly 83 minutes on a clear road. In ski season, with snow on the passes, the same drive can take far longer, and the fixed price protects you from that: the fare does not change with conditions or demand.
| RNO to South Lake Tahoe | One way | Round trip | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | US$385 | US$735 | Summer trips, two travellers, light bags |
| Business SUV | US$505 | US$960 | Winter trips, ski bags, small families |
| First Class Sedan | US$675 | US$1,285 | Premium summer arrivals |
| First Class SUV | US$620 | US$1,180 | Premium winter arrivals with luggage |
| Executive Sprinter | US$1,005 | US$1,910 | Groups, ski parties, wedding guests |
North Shore addresses, including Incline Village, Tahoe City, Northstar and Palisades Tahoe, are quoted in the web booker, because the route from Reno is different from the South Shore run.
Arriving at Reno-Tahoe International (RNO)
RNO is a compact airport in the heart of Reno, served by 10 airlines with more than 20 nonstop destinations, according to the airport. It is the main commercial gateway for both the Nevada and California sides of the lake.
Your chauffeur tracks the flight and meets you inside with a name board, usually at baggage claim, which matters at Tahoe because almost everyone has checked ski bags or large suitcases. All commercial pickups at RNO, including pre-arranged cars, taxis and shuttles, use the ground transportation loop outside baggage claim Door D. Complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing, so a late flight from a winter hub does not cost you anything extra.
Tell us how many ski or snowboard bags you are bringing when you book. It decides whether you need a Business SUV, a First Class SUV or an Executive Sprinter, and it saves a repack at the curb.
The routes from Reno to the lake
There are two main ways from RNO to South Lake Tahoe. The usual one runs south on US-395 toward Carson City, then climbs west over the Carson Range on US-50 at Spooner Summit, dropping to the lake at Zephyr Cove and Stateline. The alternative climbs NV-207, Kingsbury Grade, straight to Stateline. For the North Shore, the shorter climb is over Mount Rose Highway toward Incline Village.
These are mountain roads, and your chauffeur chooses between them on the day based on weather, traffic and road reports. Nevada road conditions are published on NDOT's nvroads.com, and California's on Caltrans QuickMap.
Winter driving and chain controls
Most Tahoe stays in winter involve at least one snowy day on the road. On the California side, Caltrans sets three levels of chain control, as published on its chain controls page:
- Requirement 1 (R1): chains are required on all vehicles except passenger vehicles and light trucks under 6,000 pounds with snow tires on at least two drive wheels, which must still carry chains.
- Requirement 2 (R2): chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels, which must carry traction devices.
- Requirement 3 (R3): chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles, with no exceptions.
Caltrans also notes that the speed limit when chains are required is 25 or 30 miles an hour, and that drivers can be cited if they do not comply. Nevada applies its own chain and traction rules on its side of the lake.
What this means for your booking: in winter, an SUV is the sensible choice, and the chauffeur handles chains if a control goes up. In heavy storms a pass can close for hours. If the forecast looks bad, the desk will contact you about timing, and a flexible pickup is safer than a tight dinner reservation. Fixed prices do not change because of weather; extended waiting and tolls are billed at cost.
Ski season: Heavenly, Kirkwood, Northstar and Palisades Tahoe
The South Shore centres on Heavenly, whose slopes rise above South Lake Tahoe and Stateline, with Kirkwood a longer drive south over the mountains. The North Shore has Northstar near Truckee and Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley. Each resort has its own drop-off area, and in peak weeks the roads to them fill early.
Hourly service suits ski days. It runs from US$100 per hour in a Business Sedan to US$200 per hour in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum, through our hourly chauffeur service. A full-day chauffeur, from US$740 in a Business Sedan to US$1,475 in an Executive Sprinter, covers a resort day with lunch on the mountain and the drive home, or a day exploring the lake with stops at Emerald Bay and the beaches.
For larger ski groups, one Executive Sprinter keeps everyone and the equipment together. Our group transportation and Sprinter van with driver pages explain capacity and planning.
Taxi, rideshare, shuttle, rental car or a pre-booked chauffeur
From Reno to the lake is a long mountain transfer rather than a city ride, and that changes which options make sense.
| Option | Price | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared airport shuttle | per seat, scheduled | Solo travellers on a budget | Fixed departure times, several stops, luggage limits |
| Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) | varies with demand | Trips within Reno, summer daytime | Long mountain runs and winter weather limit availability |
| Taxi | metered | Short trips in Reno | A long run to the lake is costly on the meter |
| Rental car | daily rate, fuel, parking | Self-drive summer stays | Chains and winter driving are your responsibility |
| Elly8.net Business SUV | US$505 fixed, all-in | Winter arrivals, ski bags, families | Book ahead for holiday weeks |
Shared shuttles run scheduled departures from RNO to the lake and are the cheapest seat for a single traveller who does not mind a fixed timetable and several stops. Rideshare pickups at RNO are at the far end of the ground transportation lot outside Door D, where the airport provides a weather shelter, and the service works well in Reno itself. A rental car gives you freedom in summer, but in winter you are the one fitting chains on the side of US-50 if R1 or R2 goes up.
A pre-booked chauffeur wins for winter arrivals, late flights, families with children and gear, groups who want one vehicle, and anyone who would rather not drive a mountain pass after a long flight. Read our chauffeur vs renting a car guide for a fuller comparison.
South Lake Tahoe, Stateline and the North Shore
South Lake Tahoe and Stateline sit side by side across the California-Nevada line. South Lake Tahoe has lakefront lodges, rentals and the Heavenly base area; Stateline, on the Nevada side, has the casino resorts and their showrooms. The evening out and event night package, from US$500 in a Business Sedan to US$1,000 in an Executive Sprinter, covers dinner and a show without anyone driving back on icy roads.
The North Shore, from Incline Village around to Tahoe City and Kings Beach, is quieter and spread out, with many private homes and vacation rentals. Rental addresses can be on steep, narrow lanes; send the exact address and any gate codes and the chauffeur will plan the approach.
Edgewood Tahoe in Stateline is a lakeside golf resort that hosted the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in July 2026, one of the busiest weekends of the summer on the South Shore.
Weddings, corporate retreats and summer weekends
Lakeside weddings bring guests through RNO and Sacramento, staying in several lodges and rentals. A First Class SUV for the couple and Executive Sprinters for guest shuttles is the usual plan; see wedding limousine and guest shuttles. Corporate retreats follow the same pattern, and a corporate account gives one invoice for arrivals, shuttles and departures. The corporate roadshow day, from US$900 in a Business Sedan to US$1,800 in an Executive Sprinter, covers a full programme of site visits with one chauffeur.
In summer, the private highlights tour, from US$400 in a Business Sedan to US$800 in an Executive Sprinter, is a relaxed way to see Emerald Bay, the East Shore beaches and the lake viewpoints without fighting for parking.

How long is the drive from Reno to Lake Tahoe?
To South Lake Tahoe it is about 58 miles (93 km), roughly 83 minutes on a clear road. In winter, chain controls and storms can add a great deal of time, and passes occasionally close. The chauffeur chooses the route on the day, and the fixed price does not change with conditions.
Will the car have chains or four-wheel drive in winter?
Choose a Business SUV, First Class SUV or Executive Sprinter for winter trips and the chauffeur handles chain controls as they are posted. Caltrans R2 allows four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires to proceed without chains, while R3 requires chains or traction devices on every vehicle.
Where does the chauffeur meet me at Reno airport?
Inside the terminal, usually at baggage claim, with a name board. Commercial pickups at RNO, including pre-arranged cars, use the ground transportation loop outside baggage claim Door D. The flight is tracked, and complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing.
Can you carry skis and snowboards?
Yes. Tell us the number of ski and snowboard bags when booking, along with suitcases, so the right vehicle is assigned. A Business SUV suits two or three people with gear; larger ski groups are more comfortable in an Executive Sprinter, which keeps everyone and the equipment together.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes, on request. Add the number and ages of the children in the booking and the chauffeur installs the seats before pickup. For families arriving in winter with gear, a First Class SUV or an Executive Sprinter gives the most room.
What happens if a storm closes the pass?
The desk watches road reports and will contact you if the forecast threatens your pickup. If a pass closes, the chauffeur waits for it to reopen or takes an open alternative where possible. The fixed fare does not change; extended waiting time is billed at cost, and the cancellation policy applies as usual.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less it is 50%, and at 24 hours or less or a no-show it is 100%. Refunds go to the original card. If weather changes your plans, contact the desk as early as you can.
