A cruise starts and ends on land, usually with more luggage than any other trip and a deadline that does not move: the ship sails on time. A private transfer takes the family, the cases and the garment bags from the airport or the hotel straight to the terminal drop-off, and on the last morning the car is waiting when you walk off the ship. Elly8.net books cruise port transfers in the North American and European cities we serve, from Miami and New York to Southampton, Barcelona and the port of Rome at Civitavecchia.
Port transfers are priced in the Elly8 web booker for your exact pickup and terminal, all-in with the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes and standard gratuity. Each city's price list also shows the fixed airport-to-hotel prices, which is the right guide if you are spending a night before the cruise, as many travellers do.
How much is a private transfer from the airport to the cruise port?
Elly8.net prices airport-to-terminal transfers in the web booker for your exact route, per vehicle and all-in. As a guide, the nearest fixed routes are Fort Lauderdale airport to the beach from US$120, Miami airport to Miami Beach from US$180 and Orlando airport to International Drive from US$155, with a 12-seat Executive Sprinter from US$315 to US$470.
The cost per person falls fast for cruise groups: one Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 people and 12 bags, so a family reunion of twelve sailing from Miami shares one vehicle instead of four taxis.
| Cruise port | From | Road distance and clear-road time | Nearest fixed price on the city list |

| PortMiami | Miami International (MIA) | 14 mi (22 km), about 27 min | MIA to Miami Beach: US$180 sedan to US$470 Sprinter |
| Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale | Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) | 7 mi (11 km), about 17 min | FLL to Fort Lauderdale Beach: US$120 to US$315 |
| Port Canaveral | Orlando International (MCO) | 46 mi (74 km), about 1 h | MCO to International Drive: US$155 to US$405 |
| Manhattan Cruise Terminal | Newark (EWR) | 17 mi (27 km), about 35 min | EWR to Midtown: US$215 to US$560 |

| Seattle waterfront cruise terminals | Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) | 12 to 19 mi (20 to 30 km), 25 to 36 min | SEA to downtown: US$170 to US$445 |
| Vancouver downtown waterfront | Vancouver (YVR) | 10 mi (17 km), about 30 min | YVR to downtown: US$110 to US$290 |
| Port of Barcelona | Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) | 14 km (9 mi), about 17 min | BCN to Passeig de Gracia: US$105 to US$275 |
| Civitavecchia, port of Rome | Rome Fiumicino (FCO) | 71 km (44 mi), about 1 h 15 min | FCO to the historic centre: US$180 to US$470 |
| Southampton | London Heathrow (LHR) | 108 km (67 mi), about 1 h 20 min | LHR to Mayfair: US$195 to US$510 |
Distances and times are by road on a clear road; ports are busy on turnaround days, and a fixed price means the queue at the terminal never costs you more. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
The cruise ports we book most
PortMiami. Miami-Dade County's port calls itself the Cruise Capital of the World. Miami International is about 14 miles (22 km) away, under half an hour on a clear road. Many passengers fly in the day before and stay in Miami Beach or Brickell; MIA to Miami Beach is fixed from US$180 in a business sedan. See Miami limo service.
Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale. Port Everglades is about 7 miles (11 km) from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport, a short ride, which makes FLL the easy airport for Fort Lauderdale sailings. Travellers who fly into MIA for a Fort Lauderdale cruise, or the other way round, should allow for the longer drive between the two cities. See Fort Lauderdale car service.
Port Canaveral. The port for Orlando-area sailings is about 46 miles (74 km) from Orlando International, roughly an hour on a clear road. Families combining a theme-park stay with a cruise often book the hotel to port leg in a Business SUV or a Sprinter. See Orlando limo service.
New York. The city has two cruise terminals: the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on the Hudson River on Manhattan's West Side, about two miles from Midtown, and the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal on the Red Hook waterfront. From Newark to the Manhattan terminal is about 17 miles (27 km); from JFK to Red Hook about 16 miles (26 km). See New York car service.
Seattle and Vancouver. Cruises leave from the downtown waterfronts of Seattle and Vancouver. From Seattle-Tacoma airport the waterfront terminals are 12 to 19 miles (20 to 30 km) away depending on the pier; from Vancouver airport to the downtown waterfront is about 10 miles (17 km). Tell us the terminal printed on your cruise documents.
Barcelona. The Port of Barcelona runs its main cruise terminals on the Adossat wharf, about 14 km (9 mi) from the airport. For a pre-cruise night near Passeig de Gracia, the airport transfer is fixed from US$105; a day trip to Montserrat from Barcelona is fixed from US$470. See Barcelona chauffeur service.
Civitavecchia, for Rome. Ships for Rome dock at Civitavecchia, managed by the port authority for Civitavecchia, Fiumicino and Gaeta, about 71 km (44 mi) from Fiumicino airport and 70 km (44 mi) from central Rome. It is the longest port transfer on this page that many travellers do not expect; a car or Sprinter is far easier than the train with a week of luggage. See Rome chauffeur service.
Southampton, for London. Associated British Ports operates five cruise terminals at Southampton. The port is about 108 km (67 mi) from Heathrow, roughly an hour and twenty minutes on a clear road, and 129 km (80 mi) from Mayfair. Tell us which terminal your ship uses. See London chauffeur service.
Embarkation day: timing the car
The ship's documents give a boarding window or an assigned arrival time. Book the car to arrive inside that window with a buffer for the terminal queue, not at the very end of it.
- From the airport on sailing day. Possible, but it leaves no margin for a delayed flight. If you do it, book an early flight; we track it and meet you inside arrivals with a name board, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing.
- From a hotel. The calmer plan. Fly in the day before and book an airport transfer to the hotel, then the hotel to the port the next morning.
- Luggage. Cruise luggage is bulky: count every case and garment bag when you book. A Business SUV carries 6 people with 6 bags; an Executive Sprinter 12 with 12. A sedan carries 3 people but only 2 large bags, which rarely suits a week at sea.
The chauffeur stops at the terminal's designated drop-off area, hands the bags to the port's porters where they operate, and leaves you at the check-in door.
Disembarkation morning: the pickup
Ships usually return early in the morning, and passengers leave in groups through customs and the baggage hall. We plan the pickup around your expected walk-off time, not the ship's arrival time.
- Tell us your disembarkation group or expected walk-off time when you book. If you are doing self-assisted disembarkation with your own luggage, you will be off earlier.
- The chauffeur meets you at the terminal's ground transportation area, following the port's rules for pre-booked vehicles on that day.
- Onward plan. Straight to the airport for a flight, to a hotel, or by the hour for a morning in the city before an evening flight: a private city tour between the ship and the airport is a popular way to use the gap.
For European ports, a common plan is Civitavecchia to a Rome hotel, or Southampton to central London or Heathrow; see train station transfers if you continue by rail.
Private transfer vs cruise line coaches, taxis and rideshare
Be fair about the alternatives.
Cruise line transfer coaches are convenient if you are flying on the cruise line's air package: you are met, your bags may be handled for you, and the coach goes straight to the ship. They are usually priced per person and run on a set schedule.
Taxis serve most cruise ports and are fine for two people with two cases. Larger families need more than one cab.
Rideshare works at many ports, from designated pickup zones that can be crowded on busy mornings, at whatever price the app shows at that moment. XL tiers are not guaranteed.
A private transfer wins for families and groups, for heavy luggage, for a fixed budget and for a car that is waiting when you walk off the ship. Priced per vehicle, it often costs about the same as the cruise line coach for a family of four or more.
| Option | Price basis | Luggage | Waits for you | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elly8.net private transfer | per vehicle, fixed and all-in | sized to your bags, up to 12 in a Sprinter | yes | families, groups, heavy luggage |
| Cruise line coach | per person | handled by the line | runs on its timetable | travellers on the line's air package |
| Taxi | metered | up to the trunk size | no, join the rank | two people, light luggage |
| Rideshare | dynamic pricing | XL tiers when available | no | short hops from nearby hotels |

Who drives you
In Toronto and the GTA, rides run on the Elly8 fleet and chauffeurs. Everywhere else, rides are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Partner vehicles are four model years or newer, and child seats are available on request.
How booking works
- Enter the pickup (airport with flight number, or hotel) and the cruise terminal, with the ship's name and sailing date.
- Choose the vehicle for your passengers and bags: sedan, SUV or Executive Sprinter, or a group of vehicles for a large party.
- Reserve now and pay by card. The confirmation arrives by email and the chauffeur's details follow before pickup. Book the return from the ship at the same time.
Travel agents booking cruise clients can open a travel-agent account, and hotels near the ports can book guests through a hotel account. Large family or incentive groups should read group transportation. Cancellation: more than 72 hours before pickup, free; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less, or a no-show, 100%. Refunds go to the original card.
Elly8.net is a member of the worldwide network of LimousineWorldwide.Directory, LimousineAssociation.International, HotelsWorldwide.Directory and VacationsWorldwide.Directory. For the flights and pre-cruise hotel, our travel partner BookingWorldwide.net handles that side; Elly8.net books the cars.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a private transfer from Miami airport to the cruise port?
The web booker prices Miami International to PortMiami for your terminal and vehicle, all-in. The drive is about 14 miles (22 km). For a guide, the fixed MIA to Miami Beach price is US$180 in a business sedan, US$235 in a business SUV and US$470 in a 12-seat Executive Sprinter.
Is it safe to fly in on the day of the cruise?
Only with an early flight and a generous margin. A delayed flight can mean missing the ship. The calmer plan is to fly in the day before, take an airport transfer to a hotel, and book the hotel-to-port transfer for the morning of sailing. Both legs can be booked at once.
Which vehicle suits cruise luggage?
Count the cases. A sedan carries up to 3 passengers but only 2 large bags; a Business or First Class SUV carries up to 6 with 6 bags; an Executive Sprinter up to 12 with 12. For a couple with two large cases and garment bags, an SUV is the comfortable choice.
Where does the chauffeur meet us when we leave the ship?
At the terminal's ground transportation area for pre-booked vehicles, following the port's rules on the day. Tell us your expected walk-off time or disembarkation group when you book, and the chauffeur times the pickup to it rather than to the ship's arrival.
How far is Civitavecchia from Rome?
The cruise port at Civitavecchia is about 70 km (44 mi) from central Rome and 71 km (44 mi) from Fiumicino airport, a little over an hour on a clear road. A private car or Sprinter is the easiest way to make the trip with luggage, and it can stop at a Rome hotel or go straight to the airport.
How far is Southampton from London?
Southampton's cruise port is about 129 km (80 mi) from Mayfair and 108 km (67 mi) from Heathrow, roughly an hour and twenty minutes from Heathrow on a clear road. Tell us which of the five Southampton cruise terminals your ship uses when you book.
Can we book a tour between the ship and our flight?
Yes. Book the car by the hour from the terminal, store the luggage in the vehicle, and see the city before an afternoon or evening flight. The private city highlights tour on each city price list is four hours, from US$340 in Barcelona or Rome to US$420 in New York.
Do you offer group cruise transfers?
Yes. One Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 people and 12 bags, and we combine several vehicles under one reservation for larger parties. Send a list of passengers and flights, and the desk groups arrivals so nobody waits long at the airport before the drive to the port.
