A transfer from Orlando airport to Port Canaveral covers a 42-mile route, according to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, and the Canaveral Port Authority puts the drive at approximately 45 minutes on SR 528, the toll road east from the airport to the port. With Elly8.net the transfer is a private car from inside MCO arrivals to the front of your cruise terminal, at a fixed, all-in price quoted in the web booker for your flight, terminal and boarding time.
The port route is not on our published Orlando price list because terminals, ships and boarding windows vary, so the web booker prices each one. Rides in Orlando are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. This guide covers the timing on embarkation day, the terminals, the luggage, the costs against a taxi or a shuttle, and the trip back to MCO after the cruise.
How much is a transfer from MCO to Port Canaveral?
Elly8.net quotes MCO to Port Canaveral as a fixed, all-in price per vehicle in the web booker, with meet and greet, taxes and standard gratuity included and tolls billed at cost. For comparison, the airport's own approximate-rates table lists a metered taxi from MCO to Port Canaveral at about US$115.
That taxi figure is on the airport's ground transportation rates table. The airport's cruise transfers page adds two useful points: some cruise lines run their own transfers on the route, so check with your line, and for groups, taxis charge per trip while shuttles charge per person. Our price is per vehicle and covers up to three passengers in a sedan, six in an SUV or twelve in an Executive Sprinter.
For scale, our published Orlando airport fares to International Drive run from US$155 in a Business Sedan to US$405 in an Executive Sprinter, and the Space Coast is a longer drive than that. The Orlando price panel is on the Orlando car service page.

Fly in the same day, or the day before?
The single most important cruise decision is not the car. It is whether to fly in on embarkation day. A ship sails at a fixed time, whatever happens to your flight.
Flying in the day before removes most of the risk. A night near the airport, on International Drive or on the coast turns a delayed flight from a missed cruise into a late dinner. Our companion guide, Orlando to Port Canaveral from your hotel, covers that version of the trip.
If you do fly in on the day, plan backwards from your assigned boarding time:
- Boarding time. The port's cruise terminal guide asks guests to follow the boarding time assigned by the cruise line.
- The drive. About 45 minutes from MCO on a clear road, according to the port, plus a buffer for traffic.
- The airport. Time to leave the plane, collect checked bags and meet the chauffeur.
- The flight. Choose a flight that lands with several hours to spare, not one that lands just in time on paper.
The chauffeur tracks the flight, so an early landing is used and a late one is known about before you reach the gate. You get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. What a tracked pickup cannot do is make a late flight on time, which is why the day-before plan is worth considering.
Meeting the chauffeur at MCO with cruise luggage
MCO has three passenger terminals, A, B and C, and each uses its curbs differently; app rides pick up on Level 2 at A and B and on Level 6 at C, according to the airport's rideshare page. Cruise travellers with heavy bags lose time hunting for the right curb.
With a pre-booked chauffeur, you meet inside the arrivals area with a name board, collect checked bags at the carousel and walk to the vehicle together. Tell us your airline at booking so the chauffeur is at the right terminal. Our airport meet and greet page has the details.
Sizing the car for cruise luggage
Cruise luggage is heavier than holiday luggage: formal clothes, several days of outfits, sometimes a garment bag. Choose by bags first. The capacities below are from our fleet page.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Bags | Typical cruise booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | up to 3 | 2 | A couple with one large case each |
| First Class Sedan | up to 3 | 2 | A couple who want a top-class sedan |
| Business SUV / Van | up to 6 | 6 | A couple with four cases, or a family of four |
| First Class SUV | up to 6 | 6 | A family or two couples in a premium SUV |
| Executive Sprinter | up to 12 | 12 | Two families or a group of friends sailing together |
A couple with two large cases and two carry-ons is often more comfortable in an SUV than a sedan. Child seats are available on request; give each child's age and weight. Groups of seven to twelve fit one Executive Sprinter; our Orlando Sprinter van rental guide compares one van with two SUVs.
Port Canaveral's terminals and the drop-off
The Canaveral Port Authority lists the cruise terminals in two groups, with separate exits from SR 528:
- A terminals, north side, Exit 54A: Cruise Terminals 5, 6, 8 and 10.
- B terminals, south side, Exit 54B: Cruise Terminals 1, 2 and 3.
Your cruise documents show the terminal; the port notes that ship schedules and assigned terminals can change, so check with your line before travel and give us the terminal number at booking. The port asks drivers to go directly to the cruise terminal to drop off passengers and baggage, where porters assist with bags; the port's FAQ says the cruise lines provide the porters. The chauffeur drives you to the front of your terminal and hands the bags to the porters.
The port is home to seven major cruise lines: Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Princess Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line, according to its cruise lines page.
Taxi, shuttle, cruise-line transfer, app ride or private car
| Option | Price from MCO | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi from the rank | about US$115 metered (airport estimate) | per trip, meter runs in traffic | Small groups with modest luggage |
| Cruise-line transfer | set by your cruise line | scheduled coach for that ship | Travellers who want the line to handle it |
| Shared shuttle | per person, set by the operator | scheduled departures, other passengers | Solo travellers and couples on a budget |
| App ride | varies with demand; not published | walk to the rideshare curb | Flexible travellers with light bags |
| Elly8.net private car | fixed, all-in price in the web booker | meets you inside arrivals, goes to your terminal | Families, groups, heavy bags, tight timing |
The honest reading: for a couple with two bags, a taxi at the airport's estimate of about US$115 is a fair price, and a cruise-line transfer is worth a look if the timing suits. The airport's taxi page notes that taxis carry up to nine passengers at the same metered rate, which helps groups too. A private car makes most sense for families with child seats, groups with lots of luggage, late or uncertain flights, and anyone who wants the price fixed and the chauffeur waiting before the plane lands. The broader comparison is in MCO shuttle vs private car.
After the cruise: Port Canaveral back to MCO
Disembarkation day is the mirror image. Your cruise line sets the disembarkation process and gives you a time to leave the ship, so book a pickup that fits that time and your onward flight. The port's directions page says departing passengers can be picked up with their luggage in front of the terminal entrance.
Plan the return flight with a margin. The drive is about 45 minutes on a clear road, then you need your airline's recommended check-in time at MCO. An early-afternoon flight or later gives the most room. Tell us the ship, the terminal and the flight number; the chauffeur waits at the terminal and the desk can adjust the pickup if disembarkation runs late. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost.
Not flying out straight away? A stop at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on the way back fits naturally, since it is on the Space Coast; our Orlando Kennedy Space Center day trip runs eight hours from US$700 in a Business Sedan to US$1,400 in an Executive Sprinter, and a port-to-KSC-to-airport plan is quoted in the web booker. Families continuing to Disney can book a port-to-resort transfer; see Orlando airport to a Disney resort for the resort side.
Parking vs a transfer: the honest arithmetic for drivers
Some cruise travellers rent a car at MCO and drive. The port's published parking rate is US$20 per day plus tax, including the day of arrival and the day of departure, paid on entry, with no cash accepted and no reservations taken, according to the directions and parking page. The port adds that its garages and lots do not open before 10 a.m. for embarking passengers. For a seven-night cruise that is eight days of parking on top of the rental and tolls. A transfer each way avoids both, and avoids returning a rental car on disembarkation morning; our chauffeur vs renting a car guide covers the wider trade-off.
Arriving at Sanford instead
Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) is approximately one hour northwest of Port Canaveral, according to the port, via SR 417 and SR 528. The airport's taxis, shuttles and rides page places pickups across the street from Baggage Claim areas 1 to 3; the chauffeur tracks the flight and meets you on arrival. The port transfer from SFB is quoted in the web booker.
How booking works
- Enter the flight, the cruise terminal and the boarding time. The flight lets us track it; the terminal tells the chauffeur which exit to take.
- Choose the vehicle by bags and add child seats if needed.
- Get the fixed price in the web booker and reserve. Confirmation arrives by email; the chauffeur's details follow before pickup.
Cancellation terms: more than 72 hours before pickup is free; 72 hours or less is 10%; 48 hours or less is 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100%. Refunds go to the original card. Our cruise port transfers page covers other Florida ports, including those near our Fort Lauderdale car service and Miami car service pages. Elly8.net books the car only; for flights and hotels our travel partner is BookingWorldwide.net. Frequently asked questions
How far is Port Canaveral from Orlando International Airport?
The airport describes it as a 42-mile route, and the port puts the drive at approximately 45 minutes. Both refer to a clear road on SR 528, the toll road east from MCO. Traffic can add time, so plan your flight and pickup around your assigned boarding time with a buffer.
Why is Port Canaveral not on the Orlando price list?
Terminals, ships and boarding times vary, and they change the route and timing. The web booker quotes each transfer as a fixed, all-in price once you enter your flight, terminal and boarding time. That price includes taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet, with tolls billed at cost.
Is it safe to fly in on the day of the cruise?
It can work, but it carries risk: a ship sails at a fixed time whatever happens to your flight. Many travellers fly in the day before and stay near the airport, on International Drive or near the port. If you fly in on the day, choose a flight that lands with several hours to spare.
Which terminal will my ship use?
Your cruise documents show it. Port Canaveral's A terminals (5, 6, 8 and 10) use Exit 54A from SR 528, and the B terminals (1, 2 and 3) use Exit 54B. The port says assigned terminals can change, so check with your cruise line before you travel and give us the terminal number at booking.
Who handles the bags at the terminal?
The port asks drivers to drop off passengers and baggage at the front of the cruise terminal, where porters assist; the cruise lines provide the porters. Your chauffeur unloads the bags at the terminal and hands them over.
Can you pick us up when the ship returns?
Yes. Give us the ship, the terminal and your onward flight or hotel. The chauffeur waits at the terminal entrance at the agreed time, and the desk can adjust if disembarkation runs late. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost.
