An Athens car service booked through Elly8.net is a private chauffeur at a fixed, all-in price, agreed before you leave home and charged to your card in US dollars. The transfer from Athens International Airport (ATH) to Syntagma Square costs from US$150 in a business sedan to US$390 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, with the chauffeur tracking your flight and waiting for you in the arrivals hall with a name board.
Rides in Athens are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Most North American visitors pass through Athens on the way to the islands, so the drives that matter are the airport, the hotel, and the port at Piraeus. This page sets out those routes honestly, compares the taxi, metro and bus, and covers the day trips that make a longer stay worthwhile.
How much is a car from Athens airport to the city centre?
A fixed Elly8.net transfer from Athens airport to Syntagma Square costs from US$150 in a business sedan, US$195 in a business SUV, US$240 in a First Class SUV, US$265 in a First Class Sedan and US$390 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. It includes the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
The road distance to Syntagma is about 34 km (21 mi), and the drive takes about 34 minutes on a clear road, mostly on the motorway and then down into the centre. At the morning and evening rush, or on a Friday afternoon in summer, allow 50 minutes to an hour. A round trip, airport to Syntagma and back on your departure day, costs from US$285 in a business sedan to US$745 in a Sprinter, and booking both legs together locks in both fixed fares.
Arriving at Athens International Airport
Athens International Airport receives the nonstop flights from North America, the connections through the big European hubs, and the domestic flights from the islands. Give us the flight number of the segment that actually lands in Athens. The chauffeur tracks that flight, adjusts to an early or late landing, and waits inside the arrivals hall with a name board. Waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary, and if a connection is missed in Frankfurt, London or Paris, the 24/7 desk moves the pickup to the new flight. You walk out with the chauffeur, who handles the bags, rather than joining the taxi queue outside Exit 3.
Many travellers arrive in Athens only to leave again for an island. If your plan is the airport to Piraeus for a same-day ferry, or a night in the centre before an early flight to Mykonos or Santorini, tell the desk the whole chain and we will set the pickup times so each leg connects. See Athens airport transfers and meet and greet for how arrivals work across our cities. If you land on a private flight, give us the handling agent and the chauffeur meets you where the handler directs; see private jet and FBO transfers.
Taxi, metro, bus or chauffeur: the honest comparison
Athens has good public transport from the airport, and for a single traveller with a carry-on it is genuinely hard to beat. The numbers below come from the City of Athens visitor guide and the transit authority.
| Option | Price | Time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow taxi from the airport rank (Exit 3) | €40 flat fare 05:00 to midnight, €55 midnight to 05:00, to the city centre | Same roads as any car | Spontaneous trips, small parties |
| Metro Line 3 to Syntagma | €9 airport ticket, €16 return | Direct to Syntagma, no road traffic | One traveller, light bag, central hotel |
| X95 express bus to Syntagma | €5.50 one way | About 60 minutes, runs 24 hours | Lowest cost, overnight arrivals |
| UberTaxi in the app | Books a licensed yellow taxi | Same as a taxi | Travellers who prefer an app |
| Elly8.net business sedan | US$150 fixed, per vehicle | Door to hotel door, about 34 minutes on a clear road | Families, groups, executives, heavy luggage, fixed budgets |
The City of Athens airport guide gives the €40 day and €55 night flat taxi fares to the centre, including surcharges, the X95 fare and its 24-hour service, and the location of the taxi rank. The OASA fare table lists the €9 airport metro ticket and the €5.50 express bus fare. In Athens, the city guide notes, Uber operates as UberTaxi, which sends a yellow taxi, so the app is a way of booking a cab rather than a separate class of car.
Be fair about the result. For one person landing at midday with a single bag and a hotel near a Line 3 station, the metro is quick and cheap. The flat taxi fare is also reasonable for two people. A pre-booked chauffeur earns its fare in other cases: a long-haul arrival with four suitcases, a family needing child seats, a party of six that would need two taxis, a late-night landing when you do not want to wait at a rank, or a meeting where you need to arrive composed. The price is fixed in dollars before you travel and there is no surge. For the broader reasoning see chauffeur vs taxi, chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft and chauffeur vs airport shuttle.
Piraeus cruise and ferry transfers
Piraeus is the port for most cruise calls and for the ferries to the Cyclades and Crete. The port is around 10 km (6 mi) southwest of the city centre and about 45 to 50 km (28 to 31 mi) from the airport by road, according to the City of Athens port guide and our routing. On a clear road, the drive from Syntagma takes about 15 minutes and the drive from the airport about 45 minutes, but traffic around the port on a busy summer morning can double that, and the ferry quays stretch a long way along the waterfront.
The Piraeus Port Authority describes three passenger terminals for cruise ships, berths for eleven vessels at once, and a free shuttle bus between the terminals and the ships. That is useful to know: the shuttle runs inside the port, but it does not take you to Kolonaki or the airport. For a cruise embarkation, give us the ship name and the date and we will confirm the terminal the line has assigned. For a ferry, give us the operator and departure time; the chauffeur drops you at the gate for your boat rather than at the port entrance.
There is no fixed price-list fare for Piraeus, because the right car depends on the route. Quote any Piraeus address in the web booker for an instant fixed price, or book the car by the hour if you are combining a hotel checkout, the Acropolis and the port in one day. Athens car service by the hour costs US$85 in a business sedan, US$110 in a business SUV and US$170 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. Read more on Piraeus cruise port transfers.
The metro is the alternative here too. Line 3 runs from Piraeus to Syntagma in about 20 minutes and continues to the airport, and Line 1 meets it at Monastiraki; the city guide puts a taxi from Piraeus to the centre at around €25. With heavy cruise luggage and a group, a Sprinter at the ship is simpler. Some island ferries also leave from Rafina, east of the city, about 16 km (10 mi) from the airport; the same desk books that run.
The centre: Syntagma, Plaka, Kolonaki and the Acropolis
Syntagma. The square in front of the Parliament is the reference point for our fares, and the large hotels around it face some of the busiest traffic in the city. The chauffeur pulls in at the hotel entrance at the time you set, rather than circling the square.
Plaka and Monastiraki. The old streets below the Acropolis are mostly pedestrian, and many small hotels in Plaka sit on lanes a car cannot enter. Tell us the hotel and we will choose the closest point the car can reach and walk the bags in with you.
The Acropolis. Visits to the Acropolis start early in summer because of the heat, and the Acropolis Museum sits at 15 Dionysiou Areopagitou, on the promenade that the city guide notes has been closed to traffic since 2003. Cars cannot drive up to the gates or along the promenade, so the chauffeur drops at the nearest permitted point on the edge of the pedestrian zone and meets you there afterwards. On a private highlights tour that timing is built in. The Acropolis Museum publishes its own hours and ticketing.
Kolonaki. The district of galleries, cafés and boutiques north of Syntagma is where many business visitors stay and dine. It is close to Syntagma by car, but the streets are steep and narrow, which is one reason an hourly booking works well for a day of meetings.
Days out: the Athens Riviera, Cape Sounion and Delphi
The Athens Riviera. The coast south of the city runs through Palaio Faliro, Glyfada and Vouliagmeni. The city guide describes Glyfada as the glamorous gateway to the Riviera, about 16 km (10 mi) from the Acropolis, and Vouliagmeni as about 40 minutes from the city, with its lake, its beach clubs and the Four Seasons Astir Palace on the Kavouri peninsula. Hotels on the Riviera are about 20 to 25 km (12 to 16 mi) from both the centre and the airport by road, which makes a transfer straight from ATH to the coast a natural first night.
Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. Our signature Athens day trip is the five-hour Cape Sounion package, along the coast road to the 5th-century BC temple at the tip of Attica that Visit Greece describes as synonymous with sunsets. The drive from Syntagma is about 67 km (42 mi), roughly 75 minutes on a clear road, with stops on the Riviera if you wish. The package costs from US$395 in a business sedan, US$510 in a business SUV, US$600 in a First Class SUV, US$645 in a First Class Sedan and US$785 in an Executive Sprinter. Many guests time it for sunset.
Delphi. The sanctuary of Apollo on the slopes of Mount Parnassos is the classic long day out. Our routing puts it at about 177 km (110 mi) from Syntagma, and the City of Athens Delphi guide calls it an easy two-and-a-half-hour road trip, with the mountain village of Arachova just east of the site for lunch and the monastery of Osios Loukas as a detour. Book the full-day chauffeur, from US$630 in a business sedan, US$810 in a business SUV and US$1,255 in an Executive Sprinter, so the car waits while you walk the Sacred Way and the museum. Meteora is about 341 km (212 mi) away, a very long day; ask the desk about splitting it with a night in the region.
For a shorter day in the city, the private city highlights tour costs from US$340 in a business sedan to US$680 in a Sprinter and covers the Acropolis area, Syntagma and the Parliament, Plaka and the city viewpoints. See private city tours and the packages page.
Events, concerts and the marathon
The next large road event in the city is the Athens Marathon, The Authentic, on 8 November 2026, with shorter races on 7 November, per the race organisers. Roads along the route close on race morning, so we time airport runs and hotel pickups around the closures and use the nearest open streets for drop-offs.
Through the rest of the year, demand follows the concert halls and the summer festivals. Megaron, which describes itself as the Athens Concert Hall and Conference Centre, holds concerts, opera and conferences in the centre; the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and the Athens Epidaurus Festival each summer bring evening crowds. The evening out and event night package costs from US$425 in a business sedan, US$550 in a business SUV and US$850 in an Executive Sprinter, with the car waiting through the performance and dinner. See event transportation and sports event transportation.
Corporate travel, shipping and roadshows
Business visitors to Athens tend to split their time between the centre, the business districts and Piraeus, often in the same day. The corporate roadshow day, from US$765 in a business sedan, US$990 in a business SUV and US$1,530 in an Executive Sprinter, keeps one chauffeur with you from the first meeting to the last dinner. Conference delegates at Megaron or the hotels around Syntagma usually book by the hour instead.
A corporate account gives your company fixed fares in US$, monthly invoicing, one desk for Athens and our other European cities, and NDAs on request. Read more on corporate car service and the roadshow chauffeur. Hotels and travel agents book guests on account through hotel accounts and travel agent accounts.
Weddings on the Riviera and celebrations in the centre use a First Class Sedan for the couple and an Executive Sprinter with driver for guests; see wedding transportation and group transportation. The chauffeur follows local rules on everything inside the vehicle.
Partner vehicles are four model years old or newer, seven for Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley, and every partner is licensed and commercially insured. See the fleet.
Leaving Athens for the airport
The airport drive is straightforward on a normal day, but the desk still builds in a margin. For a flight home to North America we usually suggest leaving the centre so you reach the terminal three hours before departure, and two hours before a flight within Europe or to the islands. In summer, on Friday afternoons and on the morning of a major event, add time. Coming from the Riviera or from Piraeus after a cruise, the drive is longer than from Syntagma, and the desk sets the pickup from your actual address.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a private transfer from Athens airport to the city centre?
A fixed Elly8.net transfer from Athens airport to Syntagma Square costs from US$150 in a business sedan to US$390 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, not per person. The fare includes the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet in arrivals. Tolls and parking are billed at cost, and the price does not change with traffic.
How long is the drive from Athens airport to Syntagma?
The road distance is about 34 km (21 mi), and the drive takes about 34 minutes on a clear road. At rush hour or on a summer Friday, allow 50 minutes to an hour. The chauffeur tracks your flight, so the pickup moves with an early or late landing.
Where will the chauffeur meet me at Athens airport?
Inside the arrivals hall, holding a name board, after you collect your bags and clear customs if your flight requires it. Waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. If your connection changes, call or message the 24/7 desk and the pickup moves to the new flight.
Can you take us from the airport straight to Piraeus for a cruise or ferry?
Yes. The port is about 45 to 50 km (28 to 31 mi) from the airport by road. Enter the airport and your ship or ferry in the web booker for a fixed price, and give us the cruise line or ferry operator so the chauffeur drops you at the right terminal or gate, not the port entrance.
Can you arrange a day trip to Cape Sounion or Delphi?
Yes. The five-hour Cape Sounion package costs from US$395 in a business sedan. Delphi, about 177 km (110 mi) away, is booked as a full-day chauffeur from US$630, with the car waiting while you visit the site and stop in Arachova.
Are child seats available in Athens?
Yes. Ask for child or booster seats when you book and give the children's ages, and the partner fits them before pickup. A Business SUV or Executive Sprinter leaves room for seats, strollers and luggage in one vehicle. If you are travelling with a stroller or extra bags, say so as well, and the desk confirms a vehicle with room for everything.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup. A 10% fee applies at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show. Refunds go to the original card.
