A Napa Valley car service from Elly8.net gives you a private chauffeur for the day and a fixed, all-in price before you go. The signature Napa and Sonoma wineries day, eight hours with your own driver, runs from US$740 in a Business Sedan to US$1,475 in an Executive Sprinter, and airport transfers start at US$335 from Sonoma County Airport and US$390 from SFO.
The point of a driver in wine country is simple: nobody in your group has to drive between tastings, and nobody has to hunt for a ride back from a hillside estate at five o'clock. Rides in Napa Valley are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
How much is a private driver for a Napa wine tour?
An Elly8.net private driver for the eight-hour Napa and Sonoma wineries day costs from US$740 in a Business Sedan, US$920 in a Business SUV and US$1,475 in an Executive Sprinter for groups. By the hour it is from US$100, with a 3-hour minimum. Prices are fixed and all-in; tasting fees are paid to the wineries.
The day package is the right fit for most visitors: a morning pickup at your hotel or rental, three or four tasting appointments, lunch, and a return before dinner. If you have a shorter afternoon in mind, book hourly instead. Hourly service runs from US$100 per hour in a Business Sedan to US$200 per hour in an Executive Sprinter through our hourly chauffeur service.
Tasting fees are separate and set by each winery. According to Visit Napa Valley, a basic tasting averages about US$40, with experiences ranging from around US$20 to US$200 or more, and the bureau advises scheduling appointments well in advance. Book your tastings first, then send the list to the desk so the chauffeur can build the route.
Airport transfers to Napa: SFO, Oakland and Sonoma County
There is no major commercial airport in Napa itself, so almost everyone arrives through one of three. Prices below are one-way to downtown Napa; resorts up-valley in Yountville, St. Helena or Calistoga are quoted in the web booker.
| Airport | Distance to downtown Napa | Clear-road drive | Business Sedan | Business SUV | Executive Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County (STS) | 45 mi (73 km) | about 67 min | US$335 | US$440 | US$875 |
| Oakland San Francisco Bay (OAK) | 51 mi (82 km) | about 68 min | US$360 | US$470 | US$940 |
| San Francisco International (SFO) | 59 mi (94 km) | about 81 min | US$390 | US$510 | US$1,015 |
SFO to Napa
Most long-haul and international visitors land at SFO, about 59 miles (94 km) from downtown Napa. On a clear road that is about 81 minutes; on a Friday afternoon, with traffic out of the city and across the bridges, plan for considerably more. The SFO to Napa transfer is priced from US$390 in a Business Sedan to US$1,015 in an Executive Sprinter, and the SFO round trip from US$745. The chauffeur tracks your flight and meets you inside arrivals with a name board.
Oakland to Napa
OAK is slightly closer, about 51 miles (82 km), roughly 68 minutes on a clear road, and it avoids crossing into San Francisco. Fares run from US$360 in a Business Sedan to US$940 in an Executive Sprinter, with the round trip from US$685.
Sonoma County Airport (STS) to Napa
Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa is the closest commercial airport, about 45 miles (73 km) from downtown Napa and about 67 minutes on a clear road. STS is a small, easy terminal with nonstop service to 13 destinations, and it is ideal if you are staying in Sonoma or the northern end of Napa Valley. The transfer runs from US$335 in a Business Sedan to US$875 in an Executive Sprinter, and the round trip from US$640.
Every airport pickup includes flight tracking, meet and greet and complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. See our airport transfers page for how the network handles delays and changes.
Planning a Napa and Sonoma tasting day
Napa Valley was the first American Viticultural Area designated in California, in 1981, and it now holds many nested appellations from Carneros in the south to Calistoga in the north. For a day of tastings, geography matters more than anything else.
Two main roads. Highway 29 runs up the west side of the valley through Yountville, Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena. The Silverado Trail runs parallel on the east side, usually quieter. A good chauffeur uses both, crossing on the short connecting roads to keep each leg under twenty minutes.
Three or four appointments is the sweet spot. Most tastings last 60 to 90 minutes. With a lunch stop, four appointments fill an eight-hour day without rushing. Leave at least 30 minutes between bookings for the drive, a walk to the tasting room and the inevitable extra glass.
Book the appointments, then the car. Popular estates fill weeks ahead, especially on weekends and during harvest. Once your appointments are confirmed, give the desk the winery names and times; we pass the route to the chauffeur.
Sonoma in the same day. The signature package includes Napa and Sonoma. Carneros sits between the two valleys, so a common plan is two Napa appointments in the morning, lunch in Sonoma, and an afternoon in the Sonoma Valley. Sonoma County's visitor site is useful for choosing wineries on that side.
Shipping wine home. Many wineries ship directly; ask at the tasting room. The car has space for the bottles you carry, and the trunk keeps them out of the sun.
The chauffeur follows local rules on alcohol, and there is no drinking in the vehicle. Our wine country tours page goes deeper on group sizes and how we handle long days.
Taxi, rideshare, bus or a private driver
Napa is a valley of estates spread over roughly thirty miles, not a city of street corners, and that changes the comparison.
| Option | Price | What works | What does not |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) | varies with demand | Short hops in downtown Napa, dinner in Yountville | A return ride from a rural winery is not guaranteed |
| Local taxi | metered | Point-to-point in town | Waiting between tastings is costly or unavailable |
| VINE public bus | published bus fare | Budget travel along the valley and to regional connections | Routes follow the main roads, not winery driveways |
| Self-drive rental | daily rate plus fuel | Freedom to explore | Someone has to stay sober and navigate |
| Elly8.net 8-hour winery day | from US$740 fixed, all-in | The whole group, door to door, chauffeur waits at every stop | Needs booking ahead in peak season |
The VINE transit system runs bus routes along the valley, including a Calistoga shuttle and express connections toward Vallejo and BART, which suits a budget traveller with time. Rideshare is fine in downtown Napa for dinner. For a tasting day, though, a chauffeur who waits at every winery is the only option that guarantees your ride back. Our chauffeur vs renting a car guide sets out the costs side by side.
Downtown Napa, Yountville, St. Helena and Calistoga
Downtown Napa has the riverfront and a dense cluster of restaurants and tasting rooms within a few blocks. Hotels here make an easy base for first-time visitors, and evening dinners are a short ride.
Yountville is the valley's restaurant village, a small town known for fine dining, a short drive north of downtown Napa on Highway 29.
St. Helena sits mid-valley among some of the best-known estates; its Main Street is a pleasant lunch stop on a tasting day.
Calistoga, at the top of the valley, is known for hot springs and spa resorts. It is the longest leg from the airports, so we quote it separately in the web booker.
BottleRock, the Wine Train and events that fill the valley
BottleRock Napa Valley, the music festival held at the Napa Valley Expo, returns May 28 to 30, 2027. Festival weekend fills every hotel from American Canyon to Calistoga and creates heavy traffic around downtown Napa. Our evening out and event night package, from US$500 in a Business Sedan to US$1,000 in an Executive Sprinter, gives you a set drop-off and an agreed pickup point; see concert and festival transportation.
The Napa Valley Wine Train operates restored vintage railcars with dining and winery excursions from downtown Napa. A chauffeur transfer to the station and back from your hotel makes it an easy half-day.
Harvest season, roughly late summer into autumn, is the busiest stretch of the year for tastings and the time to book furthest ahead.
Weddings, celebrations and corporate offsites
Napa and Sonoma are among the most popular wedding destinations in California. Guests usually fly into SFO, OAK or STS and stay at several resorts, which makes transport the logistical puzzle of the weekend. A First Class Sedan for the couple and Executive Sprinters for guest shuttles between hotels and the venue is the usual pattern; see wedding limousine and guest shuttles and group transportation.
Corporate offsites in the valley use the same model: SFO arrivals, shuttles between a resort and a winery dinner, and departures. A corporate account gives one invoice for the whole programme, and the corporate roadshow day, from US$900 in a Business Sedan to US$1,800 in an Executive Sprinter, covers a full day of site visits with one chauffeur. A full-day chauffeur without a fixed itinerary is priced from US$740 to US$1,475.

Do I need appointments at Napa wineries?
Visit Napa Valley advises scheduling tasting appointments well in advance, and popular estates fill weeks ahead on weekends and during harvest. Make your reservations first, then send the list with times to the Elly8.net desk. The chauffeur plans the route between them and waits at each stop.
How many wineries can we visit in one day?
Three or four is comfortable in the eight-hour package. Most tastings last 60 to 90 minutes, and you will want a lunch stop and time to drive between estates on Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail. Trying to fit six appointments into a day usually means rushing every one.
Can we drink in the car between wineries?
No. The chauffeur follows local rules on alcohol, and there is no drinking in the vehicle. Bottles you buy travel safely in the trunk. Having a chauffeur means nobody in your group needs to drive after tastings, which is the main reason most visitors book one.
Which airport is closest to Napa?
Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is the closest commercial airport, about 45 miles (73 km) from downtown Napa, with transfers from US$335. Oakland is about 51 miles (82 km), from US$360, and SFO about 59 miles (94 km), from US$390.
Can you transport a wedding party or a large group?
Yes. Executive Sprinters carry groups with luggage, and we can run several vehicles on one schedule for airport arrivals, guest shuttles between resorts and the venue, and late departures. Send the timeline and guest numbers to the desk and we propose a plan with fixed prices.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less it is 50%, and at 24 hours or less or a no-show it is 100%. Refunds go to the original card. If a winery appointment moves, tell the desk and we adjust the route.
