At Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), "the shuttle" can mean three different things: a shared-ride van booked at the booths outside baggage claim, a free hotel shuttle from the upper level, or a JTA city bus at US$1.75. A shared van is worth it for one or two travellers with light bags going somewhere on its route. For three or more people, families with car seats, or any trip to the beaches, Ponte Vedra or Amelia Island, a door-to-door car usually costs about the same per head and saves the stops.
An Elly8.net car from JAX to downtown Jacksonville is fixed at US$165 in a Business Sedan, US$215 in a Business SUV and US$430 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle and all-in. This post explains how each shuttle works at JAX, what is and is not published about the fares, and how to decide in the time it takes to collect your bags.
What counts as an airport shuttle at JAX?
At JAX, shared-ride vans are booked at the Taxi, Limousine and Shared-Ride Booths on the Lower Level outside Baggage Claim, with no reservation needed on arrival. Hotel shuttles pick up on the North Upper Level Departure Curb. The JTA bus costs US$1.75. Pre-arranged cars load in the Ground Transportation Area.
Those locations come from the airport's own ground transportation page. JAX has a single terminal, so all of them are a short walk from the carousels, but they are not in the same place, and it helps to know which door you are heading for before you land.

The shared-ride van, in plain terms
The Jacksonville Aviation Authority's Commercial Ground Transportation Policy, updated August 2025, defines a shared ride van as a full-size vehicle seating at least eight people including the driver, running between fixed points of pickup and discharge for a fixed rate or fare, with no taximeter, and where the driver does not know who the passengers are or where they are going until they walk up.
That definition tells you most of what you need to know:
- You share the vehicle. The van fills with other arriving passengers before it leaves, and it drops people in turn. Your ride time depends on how many others are aboard and where they are going.
- The fare is per seat and fixed in advance. The airport does not publish a fare table for the shared vans on its website, so ask at the booth before you board.
- There is no booking needed on arrival. That is the main advantage: you can decide at the curb.
- Routes suit common destinations. Downtown hotels and well-known addresses are straightforward. A beach rental or a gated home in Ponte Vedra may involve a longer loop.
For a solo traveller on a daytime arrival heading to a downtown hotel, the shared van is a reasonable, budget-friendly choice. It becomes less attractive after a late flight, when you may wait for the van to fill, or when you are the last drop-off on a long route.
Hotel shuttles: free, but check first
Several Jacksonville hotels run their own shuttles, and the airport says hotel shuttle pick-up is on the North Upper Level Departure Curb. The airport also tells travellers to check with the hotel to see whether shuttle service is provided, which is good advice: many hotel shuttles run only to properties near the airport, on fixed hours, and some need a call when you land.
If your hotel is one of them and you land during its hours, take it. It is free, and nothing we sell beats free for one person with a carry-on. If your hotel is downtown, in San Marco, at the beaches or in Ponte Vedra, a hotel shuttle from the airport area usually is not an option at all.
The JTA bus
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority charges a regular fare of US$1.75, with exact change required for cash payments. It is the cheapest way off the airport by a wide margin. Check JTA's trip planner for the route, the stop and the times before you rely on it, especially for an evening or Sunday arrival, and remember that you will be carrying your own bags from the stop to your door.
The door-to-door car
A pre-booked car is the opposite of a shared van: it leaves when you are ready, it goes only where you are going, and the price is for the vehicle, not the seat. Your Elly8.net chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you inside with a name board, helps with bags at the carousel and walks you to the Ground Transportation Area, where the airport requires all authorized pre-arranged providers to load. There is complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, so a delayed connection does not cost you extra. Our airport transfers and meet and greet pages explain how that works across the network.
Rides in Jacksonville are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
Shared shuttle vs door-to-door: the numbers
The table shows the fixed Elly8.net prices from JAX to downtown Jacksonville, about 15 miles (24 km) and roughly 25 minutes on a clear road. Prices are per vehicle. The per-person column is arithmetic for comparison only, to set against a per-seat shuttle fare; you pay one fixed price for the car.
| Option | Price | Arithmetic per person | Wait at the airport | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| JTA bus | US$1.75 regular fare | US$1.75 | per the bus timetable | Solo, carry-on, time to spare |
| Hotel shuttle | free where offered | free | per the hotel schedule | Airport-area hotels |
| Shared-ride van | per seat, ask at the booth | per seat | until the van fills | One or two people, central hotel |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan | US$165 per vehicle | about US$55 with 3 aboard | none, chauffeur waiting | Business travellers, couples |
| Elly8.net Business SUV | US$215 per vehicle | about US$36 with 6 aboard | none | Families, golf bags, car seats |
| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | US$430 per vehicle | about US$36 with 12 aboard | none | Wedding groups, teams |
The pattern is clear. For one traveller, the shared van or the bus wins on price. For a family of five in a Business SUV, the arithmetic is about US$43 each, door to door, with child seats fitted before landing and no stops for strangers. A golf or wedding group of twelve in a Sprinter works out at about US$36 each. The round trip from JAX to downtown and back is US$315 in a Business Sedan up to US$820 in an Executive Sprinter.
Where the shuttle question really matters: beyond downtown
Jacksonville is large, and the destinations visitors care about are spread out. The beaches are a separate drive east of downtown, Ponte Vedra Beach sits south of them, and Amelia Island is north of the airport. Visit Jacksonville describes 22 miles of beaches, and that is exactly the problem for a shared van: the further apart the passengers are going, the longer the loop.
For these trips, the door-to-door car usually makes more sense even for two people:
- Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach. A beach house or hotel is priced by address in the web booker, fixed before you pay.
- Ponte Vedra Beach. Resort and golf stays, and the busiest week of the year when THE PLAYERS comes to TPC Sawgrass in March.
- Amelia Island. Resort hotels and the collector-car crowd in early March for The Amelia concours.
- St. Augustine. Many visitors fly into JAX for the old city. A one-way transfer is priced in the web booker, or book the six-hour St. Augustine day trip from US$525 in a Business Sedan up to US$1,050 in an Executive Sprinter.
Going back to the airport
The fixed Elly8.net airport fares are the same in either direction, so a car service to JAX airport from downtown is also US$165 in a Business Sedan up to US$430 in an Executive Sprinter. The chauffeur collects you at your hotel or home and drops you at departures.
The shared-ride booths at baggage claim serve arriving passengers; for a departure, you would need to arrange a pickup with an operator in advance or rely on a hotel shuttle's schedule. If you have an early-morning flight, a pre-booked car removes the guesswork about whether anything is running when you need to leave.
When the shared shuttle is the smarter call
We would rather you pick the right option than overpay, so here is the honest list.
- You are travelling alone or as a couple, with carry-on bags.
- You are landing in the middle of the day and are not in a hurry.
- Your hotel is downtown or on a common route.
- Your company is not paying, and the budget matters more than the time.
And when the door-to-door car wins:
- You land late, when waiting for a van to fill can take a while.
- There are three or more of you, so the per-vehicle price beats the per-seat fare.
- You need child seats installed before you arrive.
- You are going to the beaches, Ponte Vedra, Amelia Island or St. Augustine.
- You have a meeting, a tee time or a wedding schedule to keep; our group transportation and wedding limousine pages cover multi-vehicle arrivals.
- You are continuing on by road, for example a one-way city-to-city car service to Savannah or Orlando.
- You want the fare confirmed in writing before you travel, or billed to a corporate account.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the shuttle at Jacksonville airport?
Shared-ride vans are booked at the Taxi, Limousine and Shared-Ride Booths on the Lower Level outside Baggage Claim, and no reservation is needed on arrival. Hotel shuttles pick up on the North Upper Level Departure Curb. A pre-booked Elly8.net chauffeur meets you inside with a name board and loads in the Ground Transportation Area.
How much is the shared shuttle from JAX?
The airport does not publish a shared-van fare table on its ground transportation page. The fare is fixed per seat, so ask at the booth before you board. For comparison, the JTA bus costs US$1.75, and an Elly8.net car to downtown is US$165 per vehicle in a Business Sedan, fixed and all-in.
Is a private car cheaper than the shuttle for a group?
Often, once three or more people travel together. A Business SUV from JAX to downtown is US$215 for the vehicle; with five aboard the arithmetic is about US$43 each. An Executive Sprinter is US$430, about US$36 each with twelve. You pay one fixed price for the vehicle, never per person.
Do hotel shuttles go to downtown Jacksonville or the beaches?
Generally only hotels that run their own shuttles offer them, and many are near the airport. The airport advises checking with your hotel first. For downtown, San Marco, the beaches or Ponte Vedra, plan on a taxi, an app ride, the bus or a pre-booked car instead.
Can a shuttle take us to Amelia Island or Ponte Vedra?
A shared van may serve some addresses, but long loops between passengers make these trips slow. A door-to-door car goes straight there. Enter your resort or rental address in the Elly8.net web booker for a fixed price, and book early for THE PLAYERS week and The Amelia concours in March.
What if my flight is delayed?
With an Elly8.net booking, the chauffeur tracks your flight and adjusts to the actual landing, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. A shared van does not wait for a specific passenger, and a hotel shuttle runs on its own schedule, so late arrivals are where a booked car helps most.
