At Jacksonville International Airport, the taxi is at the booths on the Lower Level outside Baggage Claim, app rides pick up at Poles 1 and 2 on the Lower Arrival Curb, and pre-booked cars load in the Ground Transportation Area. For a solo traveller with a carry-on on a daytime flight, a taxi or an Uber is usually the cheaper choice. For late arrivals, families with car seats, groups, golf bags or a trip to Ponte Vedra or Amelia Island, a private car at a fixed price, from US$165 to downtown in a Business Sedan, is often the better call.
JAX has a single terminal, which keeps the walking short whichever you choose. What differs is how the price is set, how long you might wait, and what happens if your flight is late. This guide sets the three side by side and then works through six typical arrivals.
Where does each option pick up at JAX?
Taxis are at the Taxi, Limousine and Shared-Ride Booths on the Lower Level outside Baggage Claim, no reservation needed. Uber and Lyft pickups are requested at the curb and marked at Poles 1 and 2 on the Lower Arrival Curb. Pre-arranged cars, including Elly8.net, must load in the airport's Ground Transportation Area.
All three locations are set out on the airport's ground transportation page. The airport also warns travellers to ignore offers of rides from solicitors inside the terminal, who are not authorized to solicit passengers, however official they look. If someone approaches you in baggage claim offering a ride, decline and walk to the booth, the app poles or your booked chauffeur.

The taxi: walk up, pay by the meter
The taxi is the simplest option: no app, no booking, just the booth outside baggage claim. The Jacksonville Aviation Authority's Commercial Ground Transportation Policy defines a taxi as a metered vehicle whose fare is based on use of the vehicle without regard to the number of passengers. So a taxi costs the same for one passenger as for four, as long as you all fit.
The airport does not publish a flat taxi fare to downtown or the beaches on its ground transportation page, and we could not find an official rate table to quote. Expect a metered fare for the roughly 15 miles (24 km) to downtown, and more for the beaches or Ponte Vedra. Ask at the booth for an estimate if the budget matters.
Strengths: no planning, no surge pricing, one fare for the vehicle. Weak points: the final fare is not known until you arrive; standard sedans and minivans have limited room for golf bags; no child seats guaranteed; nobody waits for you if the flight is late.
Uber and Lyft: request at the curb
The airport authorizes Uber and Lyft for pickups. You request once you are standing on the terminal curbside, and the pickup area is marked "App-Based Rides Service" at Poles 1 and 2 on the Lower Arrival Curb, next to baggage claim. The airport fee applies to pickups. Going the other way, app drivers may drop off passengers on the Upper Departure Curb only.
Strengths: price shown before you accept; fast in the middle of the day; useful for one or two people. Weak points: the price moves with demand, so a late Friday arrival or a busy event weekend can cost noticeably more; wait times vary and are not published; vehicle size depends on the category you can get; the airport reminds riders to confirm the car and driver shown in the app before getting in.
The private car: met inside, fixed in advance
A pre-booked Elly8.net car is priced before you travel and does not change with traffic or demand. The chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you inside with a name board, helps with bags at the carousel and walks you to the vehicle in the Ground Transportation Area. There is complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, so a delayed connection is handled without a phone call. Rides in Jacksonville are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
| JAX to downtown Jacksonville | One way, per vehicle | Round trip, per vehicle | Seats / bags |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | US$165 | US$315 | 3 / 2 |
| Business SUV | US$215 | US$410 | 6 / 6 |
| First Class SUV | US$265 | US$505 | 6 / 6 |
| First Class Sedan | US$290 | US$555 | 3 / 2 |
| Executive Sprinter | US$430 | US$820 | 12 / 12 |
Prices are all-in: chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet. Tolls and parking, where they apply, are billed at cost. The beaches, Ponte Vedra and Amelia Island are priced by exact address in the web booker. The same fixed fare applies in either direction, so the ride back to JAX from downtown costs the same.
Six arrivals, six honest answers
A solo business traveller, 2 p.m., carry-on only, downtown hotel
Take a taxi or an app ride. It is a short, simple trip at a quiet hour, and paying US$165 for a chauffeur is hard to justify unless your company requires it or you want the receipt on a corporate account. If you are meeting a client straight from the airport, the calculation changes.
A family of four, landing at 11 p.m., two car seats
Book a Business SUV at US$215. Late at night, the risk with an app is the wait and the price; with a taxi it is that neither will have the right car seats ready. The SUV has room for the family, the seats fitted before you land, and the luggage.
Six golfers heading to Ponte Vedra for a long weekend
Book an Executive Sprinter by address. Six golf bags plus suitcases will not fit in a taxi or a standard app car, so the alternative is two or three vehicles. One Sprinter carries everyone and the bags, and the price is fixed whatever the traffic on the way to the beaches. In March, during THE PLAYERS at TPC Sawgrass, book weeks ahead.
A couple on a mid-afternoon flight, going to a beach hotel
Either works. An app ride is usually the cheaper of the two for a couple at a quiet hour. If you would rather have the price fixed, or you are carrying more than two bags, a Business Sedan or SUV is priced by address in the web booker.
An executive team of eight with a 4 p.m. meeting downtown
Book the Sprinter at US$430. Splitting eight people across three taxis or apps means three receipts, three arrival times and someone waiting on the curb. A single vehicle gets everyone to the meeting together, and the corporate car service desk can bill it monthly.
A 6 a.m. departure from a downtown hotel
Book ahead. Morning departures are where people least want to gamble on availability. A car service to JAX airport is the same fixed US$165 in a Business Sedan, and the chauffeur is outside the hotel at the agreed time. App drop-offs, like ours, use the Upper Departure Curb.

Busy weekends change the answer
Most of the year, JAX is an easy airport to leave, and on a quiet afternoon the cheapest option is usually fine. A handful of weekends are different. In early March, The Amelia concours fills Amelia Island's hotels, and later that month THE PLAYERS brings corporate hospitality guests to Ponte Vedra. On Jaguars home weekends, inbound fans and downtown closures add pressure; the Jaguars' Stadium of the Future page says the team plays its 2026 home games in Jacksonville with reduced capacity while the stadium is rebuilt.
On those weekends, the app price at the curb is more likely to be elevated, and taxis and app cars are in demand from the same crowds. If you know you are landing into one of them, the fixed price is the main reason to book ahead: you know the cost before you fly, whatever the queue looks like when you land. For the busiest weeks, the desk recommends reserving SUVs and Sprinters several weeks out.
Travelling on beyond Jacksonville
Some JAX arrivals are not staying in Jacksonville at all. St. Augustine, Amelia Island and the Georgia coast are all common onward trips. A taxi or app ride for a longer run is possible, but the meter or the app quote climbs with distance and time on the road. A fixed one-way city-to-city car service is priced by address in the web booker before you pay, and our Savannah car service page has fixed prices if you are flying out of Savannah on the way home.
Being collected by a friend
If someone you know is picking you up instead, the airport runs a Cell Phone Lot just beyond the Jacksonville Aviation Authority administration building, according to its passenger pickup page. Drivers may stop at the curb only if the passenger is already standing there with luggage, and vehicles cannot be left unattended. It is a good free option if you have a willing driver.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the taxi stand at Jacksonville airport?
At the Taxi, Limousine and Shared-Ride Booths on the Lower Level, outside Baggage Claim. No reservation is needed for arriving passengers. Ignore anyone inside the terminal offering a ride; the airport says solicitors are not authorized, even if they look official.
Where do Uber and Lyft pick up at JAX?
On the Lower Arrival Curb next to baggage claim, where signs reading "App-Based Rides Service" mark Poles 1 and 2. Request your ride once you are at the curb. An airport fee applies to app pickups, and app drop-offs for departures use the Upper Departure Curb only.
Is a taxi from JAX cheaper for a group?
Often, because the airport's policy defines a taxi fare by use of the vehicle, not by the number of passengers. Four people with light bags can share one cab. Once bags or headcount outgrow a single taxi, one Elly8.net Business SUV at US$215 or Executive Sprinter at US$430 is usually simpler.
How much is a private car from JAX to downtown?
Fixed and all-in, per vehicle: US$165 in a Business Sedan, US$215 in a Business SUV, US$265 in a First Class SUV, US$290 in a First Class Sedan and US$430 in an Executive Sprinter. The price is the same in either direction and does not change with traffic.
Where will my Elly8.net chauffeur meet me?
Inside the terminal with a name board, then at the vehicle in the Ground Transportation Area, where the airport requires pre-arranged providers to load. The chauffeur tracks your flight, so an early or late landing simply moves the meeting time, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing.
Can you take us to Amelia Island or Ponte Vedra from JAX?
Yes. Enter the hotel or home address in the web booker for a fixed price before you pay. Both are popular in March, when The Amelia concours and THE PLAYERS fill the area, so book early for those weeks and choose an SUV or Sprinter for golf bags.
