Getting an Uber from IAH is simple once you know which door to walk to. Bush Intercontinental has five terminals, A to E, and app rides load at designated "Ride App" doors on the arrivals level of Terminals A, C and E; Terminal B South passengers take the Skyway train to A or C first. The price is set by the app when you request, and it can change quickly when a bank of long-haul flights lands together.
This guide sets out each pickup point from the Houston Airport System's own pages, explains what moves the fare, and compares the app with the City of Houston's taxi zone fares, the METRO 500 bus and a pre-booked Elly8.net car at a fixed price from US$235. It also says when the app or the bus is the smarter call.
Where do you catch an Uber at IAH?
App rides pick up on the arrivals level outside baggage claim: Terminal A at Door A-114 (west side), Terminal C at Doors C-103 and C-104 (south side), and Terminal E on Level 2, Zone 5 (west side). Terminal B South passengers ride the Skyway to Terminal A or C. Follow the "Ride App" signs and check the plate before you get in.
Those locations come from the airport's IAH taxi and ride apps page. Two details catch travellers out. First, Terminal B is in the middle of a redevelopment: the B North concourse and gates are open, but check-in and security for those gates still run through the Terminal C lobby, so a passenger landing at a B gate may walk further than expected before reaching a ride app door. Second, international arrivals clear Customs and Immigration in the Terminal E international arrivals hall, including passengers whose aircraft parked at Terminal D, so most international travellers request their ride from Terminal E, Level 2.
| Terminal | Ride app pickup | Taxi stand | Pre-arranged chauffeur |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | West side, Door A-114 | South side, Door A-115 | Limo reception area in baggage claim |
| B South | Skyway to A or C | Via A or C | Via A or C, or as arranged |
| C | South side, Doors C-103 and C-104 | South side, Door C-105 | Baggage claim |
| D and E (international) | Terminal E, Level 2, Zone 5 | West side, Door E-103 | Terminal E west side, Door 103 |
The chauffeur column is taken from the airport's limousines and sedans page. An Elly8.net chauffeur meets you inside, at the airport's designated limousine meeting area for your terminal, with a name board.

Why the Uber price from IAH moves
App fares are dynamic. Uber's own IAH page shows recent averages rather than fixed fares, and when we checked it in October 2026 it listed average prices over the previous month for rides from the Medical Center area to IAH of US$52 for UberX, US$64 for Comfort, US$86 for UberXL and US$140 for Black, with the explicit note that these are not fixed or guaranteed prices. Treat those as a sense of scale, not a quote. Rides from IAH run in the opposite direction but face the same forces:
Arrival waves. IAH is a hub with long-haul banks. When several international flights clear Customs in Terminal E within the same hour, hundreds of passengers open the app at once and prices rise to pull drivers to the airport.
Distance. IAH sits far north of the Loop. The Galleria and Uptown are about 27 miles (44 km) away, roughly 41 minutes on a clear road, and the weekday evening push on the North Freeway, the Hardy Toll Road and the Beltway can stretch that a long way. App fares include a time component, so slow traffic shows up in the price.
Event and weather days. Rodeo season at NRG Park, which returns March 2 to 21, 2027 according to RodeoHouston, conference weeks and storm disruptions all push demand above the driver supply.
Tolls and fees. Applicable tolls and airport fees are added to the app fare.
Uber's answer to the uncertainty is Reserve, which it says lets riders book up to 90 days ahead, lock the price and avoid surge pricing, with free cancellation until an hour before pickup. That is a genuine improvement for planned trips. It is still an app ride: you meet the car at the curb, luggage space depends on the vehicle that is sent, and Uber itself notes that cargo space is not guaranteed and varies by body type.
Uber vs taxi vs METRO vs a pre-booked car from IAH
Here is the honest comparison for one trip from IAH towards the Galleria or downtown.
| Option | What you pay | Where you board | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| METRO 500 IAH Downtown Direct | US$4.50 one way | Terminal E, Level 2, Door E201 | One traveller heading downtown, 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. |
| Taxi, City zone fare | US$46.13 to US$141.71 by day, by zone, plus surcharges and tip | Terminal taxi stands | One or two people, no app needed |
| Uber or Lyft | Set by the app at request time | Ride App doors by terminal | Off-peak arrivals, light luggage |
| Uber Black | Set by the app at request time | Ride App doors by terminal | A premium car on demand |
| Elly8.net business sedan | US$235 to the Galleria, fixed and all-in | Met inside with a name board | Late arrivals, meetings, fixed budgets |
| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | US$615 to the Galleria, fixed and all-in | Met inside with a name board | Groups and crews with luggage |
The bus is the bargain. The METRO 500 IAH Downtown Direct runs nonstop between Terminal E and the George R. Brown Convention Center for US$4.50, every 30 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., with room for luggage and free Wi-Fi. For a solo traveller staying downtown and landing in daylight, it is hard to beat. The 102 Bush IAH Express continues to serve Terminal C.
Taxis use fixed zone fares. Under the City of Houston's 2026 taxicab rate schedule, trips from IAH are charged by zone, from US$46.13 to US$141.71 in the daytime and US$1.00 more at night; the downtown zone is US$71.22 by day. The airport adds a US$2.75 departure surcharge and US$1.00 for late-night trips between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and seniors receive a 10% discount. Zone maps are posted near the pickup areas. A zone fare has the great virtue of being known before you get in.
The app wins on flexibility, not certainty. If the price shown when you land is reasonable, it is a fine way home. If it has doubled because three flights from Europe just landed, the taxi line or the bus may be the better answer that evening.
A pre-booked car wins when the variables stack up. A family with child seats, four colleagues with six bags, a late arrival after the bus has stopped, a meeting in Uptown soon after landing, or a budget that has to be fixed in advance: those are the trips a fixed price is built for.
What the pre-booked alternative actually involves
With an Elly8.net airport transfer, you give the flight number when you book. The chauffeur tracks it, adjusts to the actual landing time and waits inside at the airport's limousine meeting point for your terminal, which matters most at Terminal E after a long Customs queue. Complimentary waiting after a tracked landing is built into the price, and the chauffeur walks you and the bags to the car. Our meet and greet page explains the routine.
The published prices from IAH to the Galleria and Uptown run from US$235 in a business sedan to US$310 in a business SUV, US$380 in a First Class SUV, US$415 in a First Class sedan and US$615 in an Executive Sprinter. If you are flying back out, the round trip costs from US$450 to US$1,170. Each price includes the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, a standard gratuity and meet and greet; tolls and parking are billed at cost. Addresses not on the panel, such as the Energy Corridor, The Woodlands or Katy, are priced in the web booker.
Rides in Houston are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Partner vehicles are four model years old or newer. For how the premium app tier compares, read Uber Black vs a pre-booked chauffeur.
Uber from IAH vs Lyft from IAH
Both apps use the same Ride App doors at IAH, so the pickup experience is identical; the difference is the tier and the price shown at that moment. Lyft offers Standard, Extra Comfort, XL, Black and Black SUV in Houston, and Uber offers UberX, Comfort, UberXL, Black and Black SUV among others. Opening both apps at the curb is the simplest way to save money on an ordinary night. We compare them in more detail in Uber vs Lyft in Houston.
Three IAH scenarios, and the right answer for each
A solo consultant, carry-on only, landing at 2 p.m. and staying downtown. Take the METRO 500 from Terminal E for US$4.50, or an app ride if the price looks normal. A chauffeur is a luxury here, not a necessity.
A family of five from London, landing at 9:30 p.m. in Terminal E with two car seats needed. The bus has stopped, the app will need an XL that may or may not take five cases, and the children are tired. A business SUV with child seats fitted in advance is the calm option.
A team of eight flying in for the Offshore Technology Conference. OTC takes place May 3 to 5, 2027, and conference weeks are among the busiest at the airport. One Executive Sprinter, met inside with a name board, moves the group and its bags together for a fixed US$615 to the Galleria, against several app rides arriving at different times. Companies booking a week of movements should look at a corporate account and our guide to Houston executive car service.
Safety at the curb
The airport says all taxis picking up at IAH are fully licensed and that their drivers complete training in safe driving, customer service and assisting passengers with disabilities. Airport staff can help hail a cab around the clock via the courtesy phones by dialling 23-4198. For app rides, the usual rules apply: request only at the marked Ride App doors, match the plate and the driver's name before loading bags, and never accept a ride from someone approaching you inside the terminal. Pre-arranged chauffeurs meet passengers only by reservation, which removes the question entirely.
How to book an IAH car
- Enter IAH as the pickup, add your flight number and your drop-off address.
- Choose the vehicle by passengers and bags: a business sedan takes three passengers and two bags; a business SUV six and six; an Executive Sprinter twelve and twelve. See the fleet.
- Reserve and pay. The confirmation arrives by email, followed by the chauffeur's details before landing.
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, refunded to the original card. Frequently asked questions
Where is the Uber pickup at IAH Terminal E?
On the west side of Terminal E, Level 2, Zone 5, marked with "Ride App" signs. International passengers who arrive at Terminal D also clear Customs into the Terminal E international arrivals hall, so they use the same pickup. The METRO 500 bus stop at Door E201 is close by.
How much is an Uber from IAH to downtown Houston?
The app sets the price at the moment you request, so there is no fixed fare. For comparison, the City's 2026 taxi zone fare from IAH to downtown is US$71.22 in the daytime, plus airport surcharges and tip, and the METRO 500 bus is US$4.50. An Elly8.net business sedan to downtown is quoted in the web booker and fixed before you pay.
Is the IAH taxi cheaper than Uber?
Sometimes. Taxi fares from IAH are fixed by zone, so you know the price before you get in, while app prices move with demand. On a quiet afternoon the app may be cheaper; when several international flights land together, the zone fare often compares well. Check both and choose at the curb.
What happens if my flight into IAH is delayed?
With a pre-booked Elly8.net car, the chauffeur tracks the flight and adjusts to the actual landing time, and complimentary waiting after a tracked landing is included. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost. If Customs in Terminal E is slow, message the desk and the chauffeur will hold.
Can you get a car seat in an Uber from IAH?
Standard app rides do not guarantee one. Elly8.net provides child seats on request: give the number of children and their ages when you book, and the seats are fitted before the chauffeur arrives at the airport. That is one of the main reasons families landing at IAH book in advance.
Can a group of ten travel together from IAH?
Yes. An Executive Sprinter seats up to twelve passengers with up to twelve bags and costs US$615 from IAH to the Galleria, fixed and all-in. For larger groups the desk books several vehicles under one reference, with one contact for the whole movement.
