A private driver with a business sedan costs, on Elly8.net's published list, from US$630 to US$850 for a full eight-hour day depending on the city, and from US$1,255 to US$1,695 for the same day in a 12-seat Executive Sprinter. Day trips with a set destination start at US$395 for five hours from Athens to Cape Sounion and reach US$1,015 for ten hours from Vancouver to Whistler. Every price is per vehicle, fixed and all-in.
Those numbers answer the headline question, but the useful part is understanding why they differ. A private driver is priced on time first, distance second and vehicle third, with a short list of extras such as entry fees, tolls and parking added at cost. Once you see how those pieces fit, comparing two quotes takes minutes.
How much is a private driver for a day?
A full eight-hour day with a private driver in a business sedan costs US$630 to US$850 on Elly8.net, depending on the city, and US$1,255 to US$1,695 in an Executive Sprinter. Day trips to a set destination cost from US$395 to US$1,015. Prices are per vehicle and include the driver, taxes and standard gratuity.
The full-day block is priced 8% below the hourly rate, which is why a day is cheaper per hour than a long string of hourly bookings. In Rome the full day is US$630, in Paris US$665, in Las Vegas US$700, in New York US$775 and in Toronto US$810, each in a business sedan. You can compare every city on the prices and packages page.
Three ways to book a private driver
By the hour, as directed. You keep the car and driver for a block of time, from three to twelve hours, and change the plan as you go. This suits meetings, shopping and evenings out; the hourly chauffeur service explains the rules, and our guide to limo cost per hour breaks down minimums and overtime.
A full day. Eight hours at your disposal, priced below the hourly rate. This is the private driver most travellers picture: a car waiting outside the hotel at nine and a flexible plan until five.
A day trip. A set destination outside the city, door to door from your hotel, at your own pace. The time is fixed by the route, and the price reflects it. These are the packages built for sightseeing, such as Champagne from Paris or Banff from Calgary.
There is a fourth option for travellers moving between cities rather than touring one: a one-way city to city car service, which is priced by the trip, not by the hour.

Read the table by the hours column first. A six-hour trip near a city in southern Europe sits at the bottom; a ten-hour trip from a Canadian or London base sits at the top. The destination itself matters less than the time it takes, which is the clearest sign that a private driver is a time-based service.
What drives the price of a private driver
Time. Every hour the driver and vehicle are committed to you is a cost, whether the car is moving or waiting outside a winery. That is why a ten-hour day trip costs more than a six-hour one even when the distances are similar. Full days and day trips are priced 8% below the hourly rate because the time is booked in one block.
The city base. Rates differ by market. On the Elly8.net list, European cities such as Rome, Madrid and Vienna start at US$85 an hour in a business sedan, most US cities at US$95 to US$105, Canadian cities at US$110, and resort markets such as Aspen at US$115. The same eight hours therefore cost US$630 in Rome and US$810 in Toronto.
The vehicle. Moving from a business sedan to a Business SUV adds roughly a quarter to the price, and the Executive Sprinter roughly doubles it. A First Class Sedan, such as an S-Class or 7 Series, costs about 60% more than the business sedan. The fleet page shows the seats and luggage for each class, which is the right way to choose: by passengers and bags, not by guesswork.
Distance and positioning. For a day trip, the route sets the hours. For a one-way trip to another city, the routed distance sets the fare.
Extras at cost. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost, not marked up. Entry fees for parks and attractions are not part of Elly8.net prices.
The extras that are not in the price
The extras are easiest to forget on day trips, so it pays to check them for your destination before you go. Three official examples:
- Banff. Parks Canada's Banff fees page lists daily admission at C$12.25 for an adult, with youth 17 and under free, and separate family and commercial group rates. Admission is paid on top of the trip from Calgary.
- Hoover Dam. The Bureau of Reclamation's Hoover Dam site sets out its own tour information and admission fees, which are separate from the Las Vegas day-trip price.
- Lake Mead. The National Park Service manages Lake Mead National Recreation Area, next to the dam, with its own rules for visitors.
Meals, tastings and museum tickets are also yours to pay. The driver waits while you visit, which is the point of a private driver, and the time is already in the package.
Private driver or rental car?
For a day trip, the honest comparison is with driving yourself. A rental car can look cheaper on paper for one or two people, but the true cost includes fuel, parking at every stop, tolls, and the fact that one person in the group spends the day driving rather than looking. On a wine day in Napa and Sonoma, priced at US$740 in a business sedan for eight hours, that last point usually decides it; the wine tours page explains how those days are planned. The chauffeur vs car rental comparison sets out the full trade-off.
The other comparison is a string of app rides. Inside a city, short hops by app can cost less than an hourly driver, but a day trip does not work that way: the price for each leg is set by the app at the moment you request it, a driver may not be nearby at a winery or a viewpoint, and nobody waits with your shopping or your coats. Our Uber vs cab comparison explains how app pricing and pickup rules behave, and why a single fixed booking is easier for a full day away from the centre.
For a group, the arithmetic changes quickly. An Executive Sprinter for twelve on the Paris to Champagne day is US$1,660 for the vehicle. Split twelve ways, that is about US$138 each, though the division is arithmetic for comparison only: the price is per vehicle, paid as one booking.
A private driver for a working day
Business travellers book private drivers for a different reason: the day is a chain of meetings, and missing one costs more than the car. For that pattern the corporate roadshow day is the best-value block on the list, ten hours with one driver and a planned route, priced 10% below the hourly rate. In a business sedan it costs US$900 in Chicago, US$945 in New York and US$990 in Toronto, and the driver waits outside each building so the next leg starts when the meeting ends.
Companies that book regularly can set up a corporate account with monthly invoicing, and the corporate car service page explains how assistants book drivers for visiting executives. For investor meetings in a single day, the roadshow chauffeur service is set up around exactly this kind of schedule.
Combining the airport run with a day of touring
Many trips need both a transfer and a driver for sightseeing, and they are priced separately. In Paris, Charles de Gaulle to the 8th arrondissement is US$170 in a business sedan, either direction, and the Champagne day is US$830. Booking the airport leg as a round trip takes 5% off both legs. In Calgary, the airport run to downtown is US$105 and the Banff and Lake Louise day is US$1,015.
For multi-day itineraries, book each day as its own package or hourly block. The same desk holds all of them, the price for each day is fixed when you book, and you can change the vehicle class from one day to the next if the group grows or shrinks.
Is a private driver worth it in Europe?
Europe is where a private driver is often the best value on the list, because base rates there are the lowest. Eight hours in Paris cost US$665 in a business sedan, and the airport run from Charles de Gaulle to the 8th arrondissement is US$170. On the Paris price panel the Champagne day appears next to the hourly and full-day options so you can compare them directly.
European cities also suit the driver model for a practical reason: historic centres are hard to drive and park in, and day-trip destinations such as Tivoli or Pompeii are easy to reach by road but can be awkward by public transport with a family. On the Rome car service page you will see the six-hour Tivoli day at US$470 in a business sedan; from Athens, the five-hour trip to Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon is US$395.
How to compare private driver quotes
Use the same five questions for every quote, including ours:
- Is the price per vehicle, and does it include taxes and gratuity?
- How many hours are included, and what happens if the day runs long?
- Are tolls, parking and entry fees included, excluded or marked up?
- What vehicle class and model year will arrive?
- What are the cancellation terms?
On Elly8.net the answers are fixed: per vehicle; taxes and standard gratuity included, so a tip is optional, as our tipping guide explains; tolls, parking and extra waiting at cost; partner vehicles four model years or newer, seven or newer for Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show.
Outside Toronto and the GTA, where rides run on the Elly8 fleet and chauffeurs, private drivers are licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network, with Elly8.net taking the booking, fixing the price and running the 24/7 desk.
Booking a private driver in three steps

If you are planning flights and hotels for the same trip, Elly8.net books the car only; our travel partner BookingWorldwide.net handles the rest.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a private driver cost per day?
On Elly8.net, an eight-hour full day in a business sedan costs US$630 to US$850 depending on the city: for example US$630 in Rome, US$665 in Paris, US$775 in New York and US$810 in Toronto. An Executive Sprinter for twelve costs US$1,255 to US$1,695 for the same eight hours.
Is a private driver cheaper by the hour or by the day?
By the day, if you need the car for most of it. The eight-hour full-day block is priced 8% below the hourly rate. For a short outing of three or four hours, book by the hour instead; the minimum hourly booking is three hours.
Are entry fees and tolls included?
No. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost, and entry fees for parks, attractions and tastings are paid by you. For example, Banff National Park admission and Hoover Dam tour tickets are separate from the day-trip price.
Does the private driver wait while we visit?
Yes. On a full day or a day trip the driver stays with the vehicle while you visit, eat or shop, and is ready when you are. That waiting time is already included in the package hours, so a long lunch inside the booked day costs nothing extra.
Is the price per person?
No. Every Elly8.net price is per vehicle. A business sedan carries up to three passengers and an Executive Sprinter up to twelve, each for one fixed price. Dividing by the group size is useful for comparison, but the booking is one price for one vehicle.
Can a private driver take us to another city?
Yes. Book a city to city car service for a one-way transfer, or a day trip that returns to your hotel. One-way long-distance fares are priced by the route; enter both addresses in the web booker to see the price for the vehicle you need.
