A limo or chauffeured car by the hour costs, on the Elly8.net price list, from US$85 an hour for a business sedan in cities such as Rome, Madrid and Athens to US$115 an hour in Aspen, and from US$170 to US$230 an hour for a 12-seat Executive Sprinter. Every hourly booking has a 3-hour minimum, and the price is per vehicle, fixed and all-in: chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet.

Stretch limousines, the Rolls-Royce, the Mercedes-Maybach and party buses are priced in the web booker rather than on the published table, because availability and rates for those vehicles vary more by city and date. The rest of this guide explains how the hourly figure turns into a real bill, using published fares from New York, Chicago, Toronto, Las Vegas and Paris.

What does a limo cost per hour?

On Elly8.net, a business sedan by the hour runs US$85 to US$115 depending on the city, a Business SUV US$110 to US$145, and an Executive Sprinter US$170 to US$230. Each booking starts at three hours, the price is per vehicle, and tolls, parking and waiting beyond the booked time are added at cost.

The hourly rate is the price of keeping one chauffeur and one vehicle with you, waiting between stops and following your plan. It is not a meter: the clock does not speed up in traffic, and it does not change on a Saturday night. Here is the published hourly table for six cities that readers ask about most.

CityBusiness SedanBusiness SUV / VanFirst Class SUVFirst Class SedanExecutive Sprinter
New YorkUS$105US$135US$160US$170US$210
Los AngelesUS$105US$135US$160US$170US$210
ChicagoUS$100US$125US$150US$160US$200
TorontoUS$110US$140US$165US$180US$220
Las VegasUS$95US$120US$145US$155US$190
ParisUS$90US$115US$135US$145US$180

Two details in that table surprise people. First, the First Class SUV (an Escalade or Navigator in North America) is slightly cheaper per hour than the First Class Sedan (an S-Class or 7 Series), so a couple who want a premium car and have luggage lose nothing by choosing the SUV. Second, Canadian cities sit a little above most US cities on the list; all figures are shown in US dollars so you can compare like with like. You can see every city's table on the prices and packages page.

Why every hourly booking starts at three hours

The 3-hour minimum exists for a practical reason. A chauffeur who is booked for your evening is not available for anything else in the slot around it: the car has to be prepared, driven to your door early, and returned afterwards. A one-hour hourly booking would cost the operator almost as much as a three-hour one.

In practice the minimum rarely bites. A dinner with a drop-off and a pickup, two client meetings across town, or a shopping afternoon with bags in the trunk all take three hours once you count the drive between stops. If you only need to get from A to B, book a point-to-point ride instead; the airport transfers and city fares are priced as single trips.

At checkout you choose anywhere from 3 to 12 hours. Beyond that, split the day into two bookings or ask the desk about a multi-day plan, since one chauffeur driving for more than twelve hours is not a sensible plan.

Real examples: what three, five, eight and ten hours cost

The hourly rate is only one way to buy time. Elly8.net also publishes fixed blocks that are built from the hourly rate, two of which are discounted. The hourly chauffeur service page explains the blocks; this table shows what they cost in a business sedan.

BookingHoursNew YorkChicagoTorontoLas Vegas
Hourly minimum3US$315US$300US$330US$285
Private city highlights tour4US$420US$400US$440US$380
Evening out and event night5US$525US$500US$550US$475
Full-day chauffeur (8% below hourly)8US$775US$740US$810US$700

The 3-hour line is simple multiplication of the hourly rate. The full-day block is where the discount shows: in Chicago, US$740 for eight hours works out to US$92.50 an hour against US$100 on the clock. The corporate roadshow day goes further, with ten hours at 10% below the hourly rate; in New York that is US$945 in a business sedan, or US$94.50 an hour, which is why investor teams on the roadshow chauffeur service book the block rather than the meter.

For groups, the same logic applies to bigger vehicles. A 5-hour evening in an Executive Sprinter costs US$1,050 in New York and US$950 in Las Vegas. Because prices are per vehicle, twelve friends sharing the New York Sprinter would each be covering US$87.50, but that division is arithmetic for comparison only: the booking is one price for one vehicle, paid by one person.

What moves the hourly price up or down

Four things decide the number on an hourly booking, and only one of them is the city. The vehicle class matters most: in New York the same five hours cost US$525 in a business sedan and US$1,050 in an Executive Sprinter, so matching the car to the real head count and luggage is the biggest saving available. The number of hours comes next, and the jump from a guessed three hours to a realistic five is where budgets usually move.

The city sets the base. Across the Elly8.net list, European cities such as Rome, Lisbon and Berlin start at US$85 an hour, most US cities at US$95 to US$105, Canadian cities at US$110, and resort areas such as Aspen at the top. Finally, the extras at cost: tolls, parking and any waiting beyond the booking. Season and demand do not appear on that list, because a published fixed price does not surge on a holiday weekend or a concert night.

Overtime: what happens when the night runs long

Overtime is where an hourly bill most often grows, so it is worth being precise. Elly8.net prices include the hours you book. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost, which means a dinner that runs ninety minutes past the booked block is not covered by the original fixed price.

Three habits keep that from happening:

  • Add a buffer at booking. If dinner is booked for 8 p.m. and you expect to leave at 11, book until 11:30 rather than 11. Half an hour on the original booking is cheaper and more certain than extra waiting time on the night.
  • Tell the chauffeur early. If plans change, say so as soon as you know. Whether the same car can stay longer depends on its next booking, so early notice gives the 24/7 desk room to arrange it.
  • Book a block, not a guess. For weddings, galas and game nights, the 5-hour evening or 8-hour full day is usually the right shape. A guess at three hours tends to become five.

Airport pickups work differently. On a flight arrival, the chauffeur tracks the landing, and you get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, so a late flight does not create overtime the way a late dinner can.

What the hourly rate includes, and what it does not

Included in every published fare: the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes, the standard gratuity, and meet and greet at the airport. You do not need to add a tip at the end of the night, although some guests choose to for exceptional help; our tipping guide for chauffeured rides covers that question in full.

Not included: road and bridge tolls, parking fees at venues and airports, and waiting beyond the booked time. These are passed through at cost rather than marked up. In cities with heavy toll networks, such as the New York area, a long hourly day across bridges and tunnels can add a noticeable amount, so ask the desk for an estimate if the route is fixed in advance.

Child seats are available on request, and multi-stop plans are normal for hourly work. If the trip leaves the city for a full day, a day trip package is often the better fit; our guide on how much a private driver costs compares day trips across North America and Europe.

Stretch limousines, Rolls-Royce and party buses by the hour

The published table covers the five core classes. The special vehicles are priced in the web booker instead, and their capacities are worth knowing before you ask for a quote:

VehiclePassengersBagsTypical use
Stretch Limousine82Proms, anniversaries, nights out
Stretch SUV Limousine162Large celebrations
Party Bus122Birthdays, concerts, nights out
Rolls-Royce22Weddings and VIP guests
Mercedes-Maybach22The arrival that matters
Jet Sprinter64Captain's chairs, VIP cabin

Notice the luggage column. A stretch limousine is built for passengers in evening clothes, not for suitcases, so it is the wrong choice for an airport run with a family. For a group of 12 with bags, the Executive Sprinter carries 12 passengers and 12 bags on the fleet page and has a published hourly rate. The black car vs limousine comparison goes through that choice in more detail.

Hourly or point-to-point: which costs less?

The hourly rate is the right tool only when you need the car to wait. For a single airport run, a one-way fare is almost always cheaper. In New York, JFK to Midtown in a business sedan is a fixed US$210, while three hours by the hour would be US$315. In Toronto, Pearson to downtown is US$155 against US$330 for the hourly minimum.

A useful rule from the reservations desk: if the car would sit unused for more than about half of the booked time, book separate one-way rides instead. If it would be moving or waiting for you most of the time, such as a run of meetings or a dinner with a firm return time, book hourly. For a deeper look at how a fixed fare compares with a meter, see the taxi fare calculator guide.

How to check an hourly quote from anyone

Hourly quotes are not always comparable, and a low rate can leave out extras. Whoever you book with, ask the same questions:

  1. Is the price per vehicle, and does it include taxes and gratuity?
  2. What is the minimum, and how is time beyond the booking charged?
  3. Are tolls and parking extra, and are they marked up?
  4. Is the operator licensed for passenger transport where you are travelling?

Licensing is easy to check in most big cities. New York's Taxi and Limousine Commission explains on its Your Ride page that black cars and luxury limousines are pre-arranged for-hire vehicles, with plates that typically begin with T and end with C. The City of Toronto states that limousine companies, owners and drivers must be licensed, and Nevada's Transportation Authority notes that operating passenger transportation without a certificate, permit or licence is unlawful.

With Elly8.net, Toronto and the GTA run on the Elly8 fleet and chauffeurs. In every other city, rides are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network, with Elly8.net taking the booking, fixing the price and running the 24/7 desk. Partner vehicles are four model years old or newer, and seven or newer for Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley.

Booking an hourly chauffeur in three steps

Enter the pickup address, the date, the start time and the number of hours, with any stops you already know. Choose the vehicle by passengers and bags. Then press Reserve now on the package, or use the web booker for any address or special vehicle, and the confirmation arrives by email.

Book any address

Companies that book hourly cars often can open a corporate account with monthly invoicing, and the corporate car service page explains how roadshows and multi-meeting days are planned. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 10% applies at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, refunded to the original card.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum booking for a limo by the hour?

Three hours. Every hourly booking on Elly8.net starts at three hours and can run up to twelve at checkout. The minimum covers the chauffeur's time getting to you and returning the car. If you only need a single ride, book a point-to-point or airport fare instead, which is usually cheaper than three hours.

Is the hourly rate per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle. A business sedan for three passengers and an Executive Sprinter for twelve are each one fixed price, whatever the head count. Dividing the fare by the number of guests can help a group compare options, but that is arithmetic only; the booking is one price for one vehicle.

How is overtime charged?

The fixed price covers the hours you book. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. The simplest way to avoid overtime is to add a half-hour buffer when you book, and to tell the chauffeur early if plans change so the desk can check whether the car can stay.

Is a tip expected on top of the hourly price?

No. The standard gratuity is already included in every published Elly8.net fare. Some guests add something for exceptional help, such as a long day with many bags or a last-minute change of plan, but it is optional and entirely your decision.

How much is a stretch limousine per hour?

Stretch limousines, stretch SUV limousines and party buses are priced in the web booker, not on the published table, because availability varies by city and date. Enter the date, hours and group size in the booker for a price. A stretch limousine seats up to eight; a stretch SUV limousine up to sixteen.

Is a full day cheaper than paying by the hour?

Yes. The 8-hour full-day chauffeur block is priced 8% below the hourly rate, and the 10-hour corporate roadshow day is 10% below. In Chicago, a full day in a business sedan is US$740, which works out to US$92.50 an hour against the US$100 hourly rate.
