An Amalfi Coast transfer is a private car and licensed driver booked in advance between a fixed pickup and drop-off, usually Naples International Airport (NAP) or a station or port and your hotel on the coast. The price is agreed before you travel, the driver tracks your flight or train, and you are met by name. On Elly8.net, the reference transfer is NAP to Positano, from US$280 in a business sedan to US$730 in an Executive Sprinter, fixed per vehicle and charged in US dollars.
First-time visitors are often surprised by two things: how close the coast is to Naples, about 62 km (38 mi) from the airport to Positano, and how slow the last part can be on the cliff road. A transfer takes care of both, and it is the single booking most worth making before you leave home. This guide explains the types of transfer, what is included and what to tell us.
What is an Amalfi Coast transfer?
It is a pre-booked, fixed-price private car with a licensed driver from an airport, station or port to your coast hotel, or between towns. On Elly8.net, Naples Airport to Positano costs from US$280 in a business sedan, per vehicle, including the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
A transfer is different from a taxi in three ways that matter to visitors: it is booked in advance, the price is fixed in your currency, and the driver meets you inside arrivals rather than at a rank. It is different from an hourly booking because it covers one journey, not a block of time.

The five transfers most visitors need
| Transfer | Typical route | How it is priced on Elly8.net |
|---|---|---|
| Airport arrival | Naples Airport (NAP) to your hotel | Published fare to Positano from US$280; other towns via the web booker |
| Airport departure | Your hotel to NAP | Same fixed fare as the arrival |
| Train arrival | Napoli Centrale to your hotel | Fixed quote via the web booker |
| Port hand-over | Hotel to the harbour at Sorrento or Naples for Capri, and back | Fixed quote via the web booker |
| Long-distance | Rome or Fiumicino to the coast | Fixed quote via the web booker |
Airport arrival. The most common transfer. Most visitors from the United States and Canada reach Naples on a connection through another European airport. The driver tracks your final flight and waits inside the arrivals hall after baggage claim with a name board; waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. See airport transfers and meet and greet.
Airport departure. The same road in reverse at the same fixed price. The desk proposes a pickup time from your flight and the season. This is the transfer people forget to book, and the one that matters most, because a flight will not wait.
Train arrival. Many visitors come down from Rome or Florence on a high-speed train to Napoli Centrale. Give us the train number and the driver meets you at the station. See train station transfers.
Port hand-over. Capri is reached by boat, and the Capri tourism office notes that non-resident vehicles may not be taken to the island. The transfer covers the road part: to the harbour at Sorrento or Naples with your luggage, and back when your boat lands. See cruise port transfers for how port timing works.
Long-distance. Rome to Positano is about 269 km (167 mi), roughly 3 hours 25 minutes on a clear road. It is quoted through the web booker; our guide to Rome to Positano by private car covers the routes and stops. See also city to city car service.
How far, how long
| From Naples Airport (NAP) | Distance | Clear-road drive |
|---|---|---|
| Sorrento | 52 km / 32 mi | about 1 h |
| Ravello | 59 km / 37 mi | about 1 h 10 min |
| Positano | 62 km / 38 mi | about 1 h 10 min |
| Amalfi | 64 km / 40 mi | about 1 h 7 min |
These are routed estimates from the public OSRM network on a clear road, and the Positano figure matches our fact sheet. The motorway part around the Bay of Naples is quick; the cliff road at the end is narrow, shared with buses and scooters, and slower in summer. Treat the clear-road time as the minimum and allow more when you have a dinner booking or a boat to catch.
A first arrival, step by step
It helps to know what the arrival will look like before you land. A typical first transfer for a couple from the United States, landing at Naples on a connection and staying in Positano, runs like this.
- Before you fly. You book NAP to Positano, give the final flight number and the hotel, and pay by card in US dollars. A confirmation arrives by email.
- On the day. The desk watches the flight. If the connection is delayed, the pickup moves with it; you do not need to call.
- In the terminal. After passport control and baggage claim, you walk into the arrivals hall and look for your name on a board. The driver takes the luggage trolley.
- On the road. Motorway around the bay beneath Vesuvius, then the peninsula road, then the cliffs. On a clear road this is about 70 minutes; ask for a stop if anyone needs one.
- At the hotel. The car stops as close to the entrance as the road allows, and the driver helps with the bags to reception. Nothing to pay, because the gratuity is in the fare.
The return reverses it: the desk proposes a pickup time, the driver collects you at the hotel, and the fare was settled when you booked.
What is included, and what is not
Included in every Elly8.net transfer fare:
- The licensed chauffeur and the vehicle.
- Taxes and standard gratuity, so there is nothing to add in cash.
- Airport meet and greet with a name board.
- Flight tracking and complimentary waiting after a tracked landing.
- Help with luggage to the hotel entrance.
Billed at cost on top: motorway tolls, parking, and waiting beyond the included time.
On request at no extra planning cost: child and booster seats, fitted before pickup when you give the children's ages.
Elly8.net prices are per vehicle, never per person. A business sedan carries three passengers and two bags; a business SUV six passengers and six bags; an Executive Sprinter twelve and twelve, per the fleet page. If you are unsure, choose the larger vehicle: transatlantic suitcases for a two-week trip fill a sedan's boot quickly.
The published transfer fares
| Naples Airport and Positano | Business Sedan | Business SUV | First Class Sedan | First Class SUV | Executive Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| One way, either direction | US$280 | US$365 | US$490 | US$450 | US$730 |
| Round trip, booked together | US$535 | US$695 | US$935 | US$855 | US$1,390 |
Booking the round trip together settles the departure before you land and costs a little less than two one-way fares. For any other town, port or station, the web booker returns a fixed price per vehicle before you pay.
What to tell us when you book
The more the driver knows, the smoother the arrival. Include:
- Flight or train number, not just the time. The driver tracks it.
- The exact hotel name and address. In Positano especially, hotels sit above or below the road and are reached by steps; access varies a great deal from one property to the next.
- Number of passengers and bags, including strollers, golf bags or wedding outfits in garment bags.
- Children's ages for seats.
- Any stop you want, such as a pharmacy, a supermarket for a villa, or Pompeii on the way.
- A mobile number that works in Italy, so the driver or the desk can reach you after landing.
Hotel arrivals on the coast
This is the part no map shows. The coast towns are built on the cliff, and many hotels cannot be reached to the door by car. In Positano, the coast road loops through the town above the beach; the driver stops as close to the entrance as the road and the rules allow and helps with the bags to reception. Some hotels send a porter to meet cars; ask yours. In Amalfi, Atrani and Ravello, ask the hotel where cars set down guests; the driver uses the nearest permitted stop and walks the last part with you if the bags need it.
For villas and private homes, send the owner's directions with the booking. Some private lanes are steep and narrow, and the vehicle class matters.
Why a licensed transfer and not a rental car
Driving yourself looks cheaper until you meet the coast road. Under the 2026 ANAS rules published by the Comune di Praiano, private cars, including rentals, are restricted on the SS163 coast road between 10.00 and 18.00 on restricted days by the last digit of the plate; hotel guests may drive only on their check-in and check-out days. Taxis and NCC licensed hire cars with driver are exempt. Add parking, which is limited in the towns, and a transfer plus the bus, the boats and an occasional hourly car is usually the simpler plan. See chauffeur vs renting a car.
Transfers for groups and weddings
Destination weddings in Ravello, Positano and Amalfi bring many guests through Naples on the same day or two. Rather than every guest finding a taxi, the usual plan is a schedule of Executive Sprinters, each carrying up to twelve guests and twelve bags, timed to clusters of flights, with a First Class Sedan for the couple. The desk can stagger the arrivals across the day and repeat the plan in reverse for departures. See wedding transportation and group transportation. Send the guest list with flight numbers through the web booker, and planners can book on account.
The alternatives, briefly
A pre-booked transfer is not the only way, and for some visitors it is not the best. The City of Naples publishes fixed taxi fares per car from the city to the coast, €145 to Positano and €125 to Sorrento, including the airport supplement and luggage, on its taxi service page. A scheduled airport coach runs to Sorrento and Positano for a per-person fare. The Circumvesuviana train runs from Naples to Sorrento. For a couple with light bags, those are good value. Our guide to Naples to the Amalfi Coast by train or driver compares them in detail, and Uber on the Amalfi Coast explains where the app works.

Frequently asked questions
How much is an Amalfi Coast transfer from Naples Airport?
To Positano, from US$280 in a business sedan, US$365 in a business SUV, US$490 in a First Class Sedan, US$450 in a First Class SUV and US$730 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. Other towns are quoted through the web booker. Fares include gratuity and meet and greet; tolls and parking are billed at cost.
Where will the driver meet us?
Inside the arrivals hall at Naples Airport, after baggage claim, holding a name board. The driver tracks your flight, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. At Napoli Centrale, the driver meets your train; at a port, the agreed meeting point is confirmed by the desk.
What if our connecting flight is late?
Give us the final flight number when you book. The driver tracks that flight, so a delay moves the pickup automatically. If the airline rebooks you on a different flight, message the 24/7 desk with the new number.
Can the car drive to our hotel door?
Often not to the door itself, because many coast hotels are reached by steps or pedestrian lanes. The driver stops at the nearest permitted point and helps with the bags to the entrance. Give the exact hotel name so the approach can be planned.
Should we book the return at the same time?
Yes. The departure fare is the same as the arrival, and a round trip from NAP to Positano booked together costs from US$535 in a business sedan. The desk proposes a pickup time from your flight and the season.
Is a transfer worth it for two people with light bags?
Not always. The City of Naples' fixed taxi fare to Positano is €145 per car, and the coach and train are cheaper still. A transfer is worth it for a meeting inside arrivals, a price fixed in US dollars, child seats, late arrivals and heavy luggage.
