Uber works in Warsaw, and for a solo traveller hopping between a hotel in Śródmieście and a restaurant across town it is usually the quickest thing to open. The airport itself lists Uber, Bolt and the licensed taxi firm iTaxi among its ways into the city, and Warsaw Chopin even has Uber self-service kiosks in the arrivals area. A licensed taxi from the airport to the centre costs about 50 PLN, according to the airport. A pre-booked Elly8.net car costs more, from US$90 per vehicle for the same run, and is worth it in specific situations rather than every time.
Rides in Warsaw are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. This post sorts the choice by who is travelling and where they are going, because the right answer for a consultant with a carry-on is the wrong one for a family of five with a week of luggage.
Should you use Uber, a taxi or a private car in Warsaw?
Use Uber, Bolt or a licensed taxi for short rides around the centre and a solo airport run with light bags. Book a private car for a late arrival, a group of four or more, child seats or heavy luggage, a day of meetings, or when a fixed price on an invoice matters more than the lowest fare.
The three options are not as different as their marketing suggests. All three put you in a car with a driver. What differs is when the price is set, who chooses the vehicle, where the driver meets you, and what happens if your plane lands two hours late. Those four things decide the verdicts below.
The three options, side by side
| Question | Uber or Bolt | Licensed Warsaw taxi | Elly8.net private car |
|---|---|---|---|
| When is the price set? | In the app when you request; demand pricing can apply | By the taximeter; the tariff is displayed in the car window | Before you travel, fixed and all-in |
| Airport to Śródmieście | App price at the time | About 50 PLN, per Warsaw Chopin Airport | From US$90 per vehicle |
| Where do you meet? | App pickup point or the Uber kiosk in arrivals | The taxi stand outside the terminal | Inside the arrivals hall, name board |
| Late flight | You request after landing | You queue after landing | Flight tracked; waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary |
| Vehicle choice | Category in the app | Whatever is next on the rank | Sedan, SUV, First Class or Sprinter chosen in advance |
| Child seats | Not guaranteed | Not guaranteed | On request when you book |
| Invoice | App receipt | Taxi receipt | Written confirmation; corporate accounts invoiced monthly |
The airport's own advice is worth repeating: Warsaw Chopin Airport strongly recommends using the licensed taxi services offered at the terminal and notes that taxi tariffs should be clearly displayed in the car window. Anyone approaching you inside the terminal offering a ride is not one of those services.
Verdict 1: the solo business traveller with a carry-on
You land at Chopin mid-afternoon, you have a backpack and a roller bag, and your hotel is in the centre. Take the train, the bus, a licensed taxi or Uber. Public transport reaches the Centrum stop in about 30 minutes according to the airport, and a taxi costs about 50 PLN. A pre-booked car at US$90 does the same job at a higher price, and the only things it adds are a name board and certainty.
The exception is the meeting an hour after landing. If the client is waiting, the fixed booking removes the rank queue and the app lottery, and the chauffeur can go straight from the airport to the office with your bag in the trunk. For that traveller, the Warsaw airport transfer is a time purchase, not a comfort one. Our separate post on Warsaw airport to the city centre, driver or train goes through the rail options in detail.
Verdict 2: the family of four or five with luggage
Here the comparison changes. A standard car takes four passengers at most and two or three large suitcases; a family with children and checked bags often needs two taxis or two rideshares, and child seats are not guaranteed in either. According to the Elly8.net fleet specifications, a Business SUV takes up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, and it costs from US$120 per vehicle from Chopin to Śródmieście. Ask for child or booster seats when you book, and the partner fits them before pickup.
Verdict: book the private car. The fare is per vehicle, the seats are in the car before you land, and nobody has to split the family across two vehicles in a foreign city at the end of a long flight.
Verdict 3: the late arrival or the delayed connection
Many North American itineraries reach Warsaw through a European hub, and connections slip. With an app you request the car after you land, at whatever price and wait the app shows at that moment. With a taxi you join the queue at the stand. With a pre-booked chauffeur, the flight number does the work: the chauffeur tracks the landing, waits in arrivals with a name board, and complimentary waiting after a tracked landing covers the passport queue and a late bag. If the connection is missed entirely, the 24/7 desk moves the pickup.
Verdict: if you would rather not make a decision at midnight in an arrivals hall, book ahead. If you are relaxed about it and travelling light, the taxi stand at Chopin works around the clock.
Verdict 4: a full day of meetings
Warsaw business days involve four or five addresses across the centre and the office districts to the west and south. Ride-hailing each leg means four or five waits, four or five pickups on busy streets and four or five receipts. A taxi works the same way. A chauffeur by the hour waits outside each building with the laptops in the car.
Warsaw car service by the hour costs US$85 an hour in a business sedan to US$170 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum, and the corporate roadshow day, 10 hours from US$765 in a business sedan, keeps one chauffeur with you from the first meeting to the last. Verdict: for one or two meetings, the apps are fine; for a full day, especially with a client in the car, the hourly chauffeur is simpler and the invoice is one line. See corporate car service and investor roadshows.
Verdict 5: stadium nights, concerts and late dinners
The PGE Narodowy national stadium on the east bank of the Vistula hosts football, concerts and big events, and when tens of thousands of people leave at once every app shows the same thing: high demand, long waits, and pickup points pushed away from the gates. Taxis are just as scarce. The evening out and event night package, 5 hours from US$425 in a business sedan to US$850 in an Executive Sprinter, puts a car at an agreed meeting point after the show; see concert transportation and sports event transportation.
For a dinner across town on an ordinary weeknight, an app or a taxi is the sensible choice. Verdict: book ahead for the nights when everyone else needs a car at the same moment.
What about Warsaw Modlin and long-distance trips?
Warsaw Modlin is about 42 km (26 mi) from the city centre, roughly 56 minutes on a clear road, per our city page. The airport's rail line, Koleje Mazowieckie's RL, links Chopin and Modlin, and a taxi or rideshare for that distance is a substantial fare set on the day. Modlin is not on the Elly8.net published price list, so enter the route in the web booker for a fixed quote before you travel.
For trips out of the city, the decision tilts further. Nobody takes an Uber to Krakow; the realistic choice is the train or a private car, and our Warsaw to Krakow by private car guide sets out when each wins. Long drives are quoted door to door through the web booker; see city to city car service.
Practical notes for travellers from the US and Canada
Poland uses the złoty (PLN), not the euro, so the taxi meter and the app both show prices in złoty. The apps charge the card on file; in a taxi, ask before you set off whether you can pay by card. An Elly8.net booking is the one option priced and charged in US dollars, which keeps the currency conversion off your statement and the figure on your expense report the same as the one you saw when you booked.
Ride-hailing apps need mobile data at the moment you land. If your phone plan does not include roaming in Poland, the airport's Uber kiosks solve the first ride; after that you will want an eSIM or a local plan. A pre-booked chauffeur needs nothing from your phone once you are in the arrivals hall, because the driver is holding your name and has been following your flight number.
Finally, tipping. A rounded-up taxi or app fare is a common courtesy, and the apps offer a tip option after the ride. Elly8.net prices already include standard gratuity, so nothing extra is expected at the kerb.
Prices compared for a group, as arithmetic
Elly8.net prices are per vehicle, never per person. The arithmetic below only shows what the fixed fare means when it is shared, compared with the airport's figure of about 50 PLN for a taxi, which carries up to four people with limited luggage.
| Party | Elly8.net vehicle | Fixed fare, Chopin to Śródmieście | Shared, for comparison only | Taxi equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 traveller | Business Sedan | US$90 | US$90 each | One taxi, about 50 PLN |
| 4 adults, 4 bags | Business SUV | US$120 | US$30 each | Often two taxis |
| 6 adults, 6 bags | Business SUV | US$120 | US$20 each | Two taxis |
| 10 adults, 10 bags | Executive Sprinter | US$235 | US$23.50 each | Three taxis |
For one person the taxi is clearly cheaper. From four people with checked bags, the gap narrows sharply, and the private car adds meet and greet, chosen vehicle size and one fixed figure on the expense report.
A quick decision rule
If you remember one thing from this post, make it this. Count the people, count the checked bags and look at the landing time. One or two people, carry-on bags and a daytime arrival: take a licensed taxi, Uber or Bolt, or the train, and enjoy the savings. Four or more people, more than one large suitcase each, children who need seats, or a landing after dark when you would rather not negotiate anything: book the car before you fly. Everything in between is a judgement call, and both answers are reasonable. The same rule works for the trip home, with one addition: if missing the flight would be expensive, the fixed pickup time and the desk's traffic margin are worth paying for, whatever the size of the party. Our desk is happy to talk through a borderline case before you book.

Frequently asked questions
Does Uber work in Warsaw?
Yes. Uber operates in Warsaw, and Warsaw Chopin Airport has Uber self-service kiosks, which the airport calls Tap to Ride, in the baggage reclaim hall and the arrivals hall. Bolt and the licensed taxi company iTaxi are also listed by the airport. Prices are set in the app at the time you request.
How much is a taxi from Warsaw Chopin Airport to the centre?
About 50 PLN, according to Warsaw Chopin Airport, using the licensed taxi services offered at the terminal. Tariffs should be displayed in the car window. A pre-booked Elly8.net car costs from US$90 per vehicle, fixed and all-in, with meet and greet in arrivals.
When is a private car cheaper than Uber or a taxi in Warsaw?
Rarely for one person. It becomes competitive for groups: four to six people with luggage fit one Business SUV, from US$120 per vehicle from Chopin, where a taxi or rideshare would often need two cars. It also wins on predictability, because the fare is fixed before you travel.
Is it safe to accept a ride offered inside the airport?
The airport strongly advises using the licensed taxi services offered at Chopin and checking that tariffs are displayed in the car window. Use the taxi stand, an app, or a car you booked in advance, and ignore anyone soliciting rides inside the terminal.
Can I book a car for a whole day in Warsaw?
Yes. Hourly bookings cost from US$85 an hour in a business sedan with a 3-hour minimum, the full-day chauffeur covers 8 hours from US$630, and the corporate roadshow day covers 10 hours from US$765. The chauffeur waits outside each address.
Do Elly8.net prices include the tip?
Yes. Every published price includes the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet. Parking, tolls and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost, and nothing extra is expected at the kerb.
