A Saskatoon taxi from the airport is one of the better deals among Canadian airports. Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport (YXE) publishes a taxi zone fare map with flat rates across the city: C$21 to the downtown zone and C$24 to the University of Saskatchewan zone, according to the map linked from the YXE ground transportation page, with GST and the airport trip fee included and gratuity not included. You can choose the flat zone rate or the meter.
Rideshare works too. YXE has contracted Uber, Lyft and Spinr, with pickups in a designated area along the public curb in front of the terminal. And the city bus costs C$3.25 for an adult. So when does a pre-booked Elly8.net car, from US$95 for YXE to downtown, make sense? This guide sets out each option with official numbers and gives a fair verdict, including the many trips where the taxi is simply the right call.
How much is a taxi from Saskatoon airport?
YXE's zone fare map sets flat taxi rates from the airport: C$21 to the downtown zone, C$24 to the University of Saskatchewan zone, C$13.50 to the nearest zone by the airport and up to C$44.50 in the furthest city zones. Prices include GST and the C$2 airport trip fee; gratuity is extra. You may choose the meter instead.
The airport says licensed taxis follow its approved zone fare map, so travellers know the fare before they set off, and that every customer can pick either the flat zone rate or the meter. A C$2 trip fee is built into the zone fares or added to the meter for trips to and from the airport. Seven licensed taxi companies serve the terminal, at the curb or pre-arranged by phone.
| From YXE to | Taxi zone flat rate | Elly8.net Business Sedan | Elly8.net Executive Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown zone | C$21 | US$95 fixed, all-in | US$250 fixed, all-in |
| University of Saskatchewan zone | C$24 | Web booker | Web booker |
| Nearest zone by the airport | C$13.50 | Web booker | Web booker |
| Furthest city zones | up to C$44.50 | Web booker | Web booker |
| Martensville (outlying flat rate) | C$43 | Web booker | Web booker |
| Warman (outlying flat rate) | C$60 | Web booker | Web booker |
The map also sets out the fine print. If your destination sits on the line between two zones, you pay the lower zone. If you ask for a specific route, or travel to a rural address outside the zones, the meter applies. Multiple stops or shared rides go on the meter, with the passengers agreeing in advance how to split the cost, and van rates may apply if you request a van when booking.

The honest comparison: YXE to downtown
YXE is only about 7 km (4 mi) from downtown, around 11 minutes on a clear road. On a trip that short, the taxi zone fare is hard to beat, and we will say so plainly: for one to three people with ordinary luggage, a C$21 flat-rate taxi is the sensible choice. Our Business Sedan at US$95 costs more, in a stronger currency.
| Option | Price, YXE to downtown | What you know in advance | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saskatoon Transit bus | C$3.25 adult single ride | The fare | One traveller, light bag, daytime |
| Taxi, zone flat rate | C$21, GST and airport fee included | The fare, before you set off | Most walk-up trips for one to three people |
| Rideshare (Uber, Lyft, Spinr) | Set by the app at the time | The app's price when you request | App users comfortable at the rideshare curb |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan | US$95 fixed, all-in | Price, vehicle and chauffeur | Early flights, executives, child seats, invoices |
| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | US$250 fixed, all-in | Same | Teams and groups of up to 12 with bags |
Rideshare at YXE: Uber, Lyft and Spinr
The airport has partnered with Uber, Lyft and Spinr. You request the ride in the app and meet the driver in the designated rideshare pickup and drop-off area along the public curb in front of the terminal. Rideshare drivers may wait in the cell phone lot but not along the curb, and a C$2 fee applies to commercial vehicles licensed at the airport.
We do not publish rideshare prices because they are not fixed: they are set by the app at the moment you request, and they rise when demand is high. The fair advice is to compare the app's price with the C$21 zone taxi when you land. Off-peak, either is a good option for a single traveller. At 5 a.m. in January, or when several flights land at once, check availability before relying on it. Our general chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft page covers the trade-offs.
The bus: cheapest of all
Saskatoon Transit lists an adult single ride at C$3.25 and a day pass at C$9.50, effective July 1, 2026, with children in Grade 8 and under riding free. YXE lists city transit among its ground transportation options, and our Saskatoon page notes the bus runs between the airport and the downtown bus terminal at the standard city fare. For a single traveller with a backpack in daylight, it is the cheapest way into town by a wide margin.
When the taxi is the right call
Take a taxi in Saskatoon when:
- You are one to three people going to a single address in the city, and the zone fare is known in advance.
- You land at a normal hour and are happy to join the queue at the curb.
- You want to pay in Canadian dollars at the end of the trip.
- The trip is a short hop around downtown, Broadway or the university.
Our general chauffeur vs taxi page explains the wider trade-offs, but in Saskatoon the zone map makes the taxi an especially fair deal.
When a pre-booked car wins
More than one stop. The zone fare covers one destination. A head-office meeting, a lunch and a site visit in the afternoon all go on the meter, call by call. A chauffeur by the hour, from US$110 an hour in a Business Sedan with a 3-hour minimum, stays with you all day. Saskatoon is a head-office city for resource companies, and that is the trip we book most; see hourly chauffeur service and investor roadshow days, from US$990 in a Business Sedan.
A group with bags. A team of five with sample cases needs two taxis, and the map notes van rates may apply if a van is requested. An Elly8.net Business SUV at US$125 carries six passengers and six bags, and an Executive Sprinter at US$250 carries twelve of each, per vehicle with the price fixed before you fly.
Very early or very late flights. The chauffeur tracks the flight, waits in arrivals with a name board, and complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing. For a 5 a.m. departure after an overnight snowfall, the desk confirms the pickup the evening before.
Children. Child seats are available on request and fitted before pickup, which a curbside taxi will not usually have, and which matters in a Saskatchewan winter.
Company billing. Fixed fares in US dollars, a receipt before the trip and monthly invoicing through a corporate account suit businesses with regular visitors; see corporate car service.
Long drives. Trips beyond the city, to a mine site, a farm or Regina, are quoted in the web booker; the zone map sends rural addresses to the meter. See city to city car service.
University visits and conferences
The University of Saskatchewan campus sits on the east bank of the South Saskatchewan River, a few minutes from downtown, and draws visiting researchers, conference delegates and families at convocation. From YXE, the taxi zone map puts the university zone at C$24, which is excellent value for a single visitor heading to a hotel or residence near campus.
The calculation changes for a visiting speaker with a full programme, or for a delegation of a dozen arriving on two flights. A round trip from YXE with an hourly block between sessions keeps one car and one chauffeur with the visitor, and the chauffeur can meet at a named building rather than a general campus entrance. For conferences downtown, a conference transportation booking can run Executive Sprinters from YXE timed to arriving flights, then hold a single executive car on call through the event.
Organisers sometimes split the difference sensibly: zone taxis for individual delegates arriving at scattered times, and a Sprinter for the speakers and the group that lands together. There is no need to put every traveller in a private car.
Event nights in Saskatoon
The taxi queue and the rideshare app both feel the same pressure after a big event. SaskTel Centre, on the north edge of the city, hosts hockey, concerts and touring shows, and thousands of people leave at once. TCU Place, downtown, empties after conventions and performances. On those nights a chauffeur waiting at an agreed point is the simplest way home. The evening out and event night package costs from US$550 in a Business Sedan to US$1,100 in an Executive Sprinter; see concert transportation and event transportation.
Winter changes the maths
Saskatoon winters are cold and dry, with short days. A five-minute wait at the curb in January is not the same as one in July, and a family with young children and luggage feels it most. Partner vehicles are four model years old or newer, and the most useful thing a pre-booked chauffeur does in winter is have a warm car ready when you walk out of arrivals. For a solo traveller with a carry-on, the zone taxi still wins; for a family with car seats, the case for a booked car is strongest from November to March.
Round trips and the rest of the stay
Every Elly8.net airport fare is the same in both directions, and a round trip booked together is cheaper: US$185 in a Business Sedan, US$240 in a Business SUV and US$475 in an Executive Sprinter for YXE to downtown and back. Many visitors combine the arrival with an hourly booking the same day, because the airport is so close that the real value is in the car that stays with you afterwards.

Is the bus from Saskatoon airport cheaper than a taxi?
Yes. Saskatoon Transit lists an adult single ride at C$3.25 and a day pass at C$9.50, effective July 1, 2026, with children in Grade 8 and under free. It suits one traveller with light luggage and time to spare; a taxi or car is faster door to door.
When is a private car better than a taxi in Saskatoon?
For multi-stop business days, groups with bags, very early or late flights, children who need seats, and companies that want fixed fares and monthly invoicing. An Elly8.net Business Sedan from YXE to downtown is US$95, and hourly service starts at US$110 an hour with a 3-hour minimum.
Do Saskatoon taxis charge extra for several stops?
Under YXE's zone fare map, trips with multiple stops or shared rides use the meter, and the passengers agree in advance how to divide the cost. A specific route requested by the customer, or a rural address outside the zones, also goes on the meter.
