Calgary International Airport (YYC) to Canmore is about 113 km (70 mi) by road, west on the Trans-Canada Highway into the Bow Valley. Tourism Canmore Kananaskis describes it as just over an hour's drive; on routing software the clear-road time is closer to an hour and a half from the terminal, and winter conditions add more. By private car, your chauffeur meets you inside arrivals, loads the skis or golf clubs, and drives straight to your hotel, condo or chalet without a stop at a shuttle depot.
Elly8.net prices the Canmore trip in the web booker for your exact address, date and vehicle, and shows the fixed, all-in price per vehicle before you pay. For a sense of scale, the fixed YYC transfer to the town of Banff, about 25 km (16 mi) further west, runs from US$370 in a business sedan to US$965 in an Executive Sprinter. This guide explains what happens on the day and how the alternatives compare.
How much is a private car from Calgary Airport to Canmore?
Elly8.net quotes YYC to Canmore in the web booker for your address and vehicle, fixed and all-in, the same price in either direction. As a reference, the published YYC to Banff town fare is US$370 in a business sedan, US$485 in a business SUV and US$965 in an Executive Sprinter, about 25 km beyond Canmore.
The price includes the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet. Parking and any waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. Prices are per vehicle, so a family of five in one business SUV pays one fare, not five.

Step by step: landing at YYC
1. Before you fly. Add your flight number to the booking and tell the desk about skis, snowboards, golf clubs, bikes or oversized luggage. That decides the vehicle class, and gear that was never mentioned is the usual reason a mountain transfer starts badly.
2. The flight is tracked. The desk follows the flight from departure. If it lands early or late, the pickup moves with it. You get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, which covers the normal wait at baggage and, for flights from the United States and overseas, Canadian customs.
3. Inside arrivals. Your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name board and walks you to the car. You do not need to find a door number, which matters at YYC, where taxi, sedan and app pickups are spread along the arrivals curb. Our YYC limo guide covers the terminal routine in more detail.
4. Loading. Ski bags and boot bags go in first, then suitcases. The vehicle is chosen for the luggage you declared, which is why the table below matters more than the passenger count.
5. The drive. From the airport the route crosses the city to the Trans-Canada Highway and heads west through the foothills into the Bow Valley, where the mountains close in around Canmore. The chauffeur drops you at the door, including condo complexes and chalets up the hillsides that a shuttle may not serve directly.
Which vehicle fits your group and gear
| Vehicle | Passengers | Bags | Mountain reality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | up to 3 | 2 | couples with suitcases, no skis |
| First class sedan | up to 3 | 2 | executive arrivals, light luggage |
| Business SUV or van | up to 6 | 6 | families, two or three ski bags |
| First class SUV | up to 6 | 6 | families who want an Escalade or Navigator class |
| Executive Sprinter | up to 12 | 12 | ski groups, golf foursomes with bags, wedding parties |
Capacities are from our fleet page. The usual mistake is booking a sedan for two people with two ski bags: the bags do not fit with the suitcases. Two skiers with full gear should book a business SUV. A group of eight with skis should book an Executive Sprinter rather than two SUVs; our Calgary Sprinter van guide explains when one Sprinter beats two smaller vehicles. Child seats are fitted on request; give ages and weights when you book.
Flat rate vs metered: how the options compare
Every way of getting from YYC to Canmore has a different pricing logic. The airport publishes clear information on its ground transport pages, and the comparison below uses its own facts.
| Option | How it is priced | Where you meet it | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled shuttle or bus | per person, set by each operator | operator's stop or desk | solo travellers and couples with standard bags |
| Taxi | meter rates | arrivals, doors 1, 9 and 15 | short-notice trips, if the driver will go to Canmore |
| Airport sedan | zone fares, plus a C$11 airport access fee | arrivals, doors 2, 11 and 15 | on-demand sedan without a booking |
| Uber or Lyft | live price in the app | arrivals, doors 3, 12 and 15 | flexible plans, light luggage |
| Rental car | daily rate plus fuel | rental counters | travellers who want a car all week |
| Elly8.net private car | fixed, all-in per vehicle, quoted before booking | inside arrivals, name board | families, groups, gear, late flights |
Shuttles. YYC's bus tours page lists the operators running transportation from the airport to Banff, and Tourism Canmore Kananaskis notes on its getting here page that several shuttle, bus and private operators serve Canmore from the airport and downtown Calgary. Shuttles are priced per seat, so for one or two people with ordinary luggage they are often the cheapest choice. Check each operator's schedule and luggage rules; a shared shuttle may make several hotel stops.
Taxis and airport sedans. The YYC taxi and sedan page says taxi fares are metered, with stands at doors 1, 9 and 15, and that on-demand airport sedans at doors 2, 11 and 15 charge flat zone fares and can travel beyond the city limits, with a C$11 airport access fee per pickup. Neither publishes a Canmore figure on that page, so ask before you set off.
Rideshare. The airport says Uber and Lyft are the only authorised ride-app operators at YYC, with pickups at doors 3, 12 and 15 on arrivals, according to its ride app page. Prices are not published for Canmore and follow demand at the moment you request. Matching a driver for a 113 km trip is up to the driver.
Rental car. If you want a car for the whole stay, renting makes sense. Factor in winter tires, parking at your accommodation and the drive back for the flight. Our chauffeur vs car rental page sets out the trade-offs.
A pre-booked private car is the better fit for families with car seats, ski or golf groups with gear, late-evening arrivals, executives heading to a Canmore retreat, and anyone who wants the price fixed before landing. Our chauffeur vs airport shuttle page covers the general case.
Passes: what you need for Canmore, and what you do not
Canmore itself. Canmore sits just east of Banff National Park, so a transfer to a Canmore address does not stop in the national park. Alberta's Kananaskis Conservation Pass page says a pass is not required for the Canmore townsite or other municipal land, and that vehicles only loading or unloading passengers do not need one.
Stops in Kananaskis Country. If your plans include stopping at a Kananaskis day-use area, such as a lake or trailhead outside town, the vehicle needs a pass. Alberta lists a commercial day pass at C$22.50 for vehicles carrying 15 people or fewer. Tell the desk if you plan a stop.
Continuing to Banff or Lake Louise. Everyone stopping in Banff National Park needs a park pass. Parks Canada's Banff fees page lists a daily adult pass at C$12.25 and a family or group pass at C$24.50, with youth free. Passes are not included in transfer prices.
Ski weeks, retreats and team offsites
Three kinds of Canmore trip need a little more planning. Ski and snowboard weeks need the right vehicle more than anything else: gear first, then people. Corporate retreats and team offsites in the Bow Valley often arrive on several flights, so the desk books a vehicle per arrival cluster and a single Executive Sprinter for the group's return to YYC. Families arriving for the holidays need car seats fitted before pickup and enough room for a week of luggage. For all three, send the desk the flight numbers, the passenger list and the gear, and the right vehicles are matched to each arrival. Companies sending teams regularly can open a corporate account with monthly invoicing.
Getting around once you are in Canmore
Canmore is compact, and much of the town is walkable. Roam Transit runs a regional Canmore to Banff route as well as local Canmore routes, which is a simple way to visit Banff for the day without a car. For a mountain day with a driver, the Calgary price list includes a ten-hour Banff and Lake Louise day trip from US$1,015 in a business sedan, and the Banff car service page lists a Lake Louise and Moraine Lake day and hourly service in the mountains.
Departures: Canmore back to YYC
The fare is the same fixed price in either direction. For the return, the desk sets the pickup from your flight time and terminal. Allow for the drive, winter road conditions on the Trans-Canada and the airport queues. YYC has US preclearance, according to the airport's customs page, so travellers flying to the United States complete US formalities in Calgary before boarding and need extra time. In snow, the desk may suggest leaving earlier; it is your call, but it is advice worth taking.
Booking the transfer
- Enter YYC as the pickup with your flight number, and your Canmore address as the drop-off, or the reverse for departure.
- Choose the vehicle by passengers and gear, using the table above.
- Reserve in the web booker. The fixed price is shown before you pay, and confirmation arrives by email with the chauffeur's details before pickup.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Canmore from Calgary Airport?
About 113 km (70 mi) by road from YYC, west on the Trans-Canada Highway. Tourism Canmore Kananaskis calls it just over an hour; routing software puts a clear-road drive from the terminal at around an hour and a half, and snow or weekend traffic adds time.
How much does a private transfer from YYC to Canmore cost?
Elly8.net prices it in the web booker for your address and vehicle, fixed and all-in, before you pay. For reference, the published YYC to Banff town fare, about 25 km further, starts at US$370 in a business sedan and US$485 in a business SUV.
Where will the driver meet me at Calgary Airport?
Inside arrivals, with a name board, after baggage claim and, for international flights, customs. The chauffeur tracks your flight, and complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing, so you do not need to look for a door number or a shuttle stop.
Do you need a park pass to stay in Canmore?
No. Canmore is outside Banff National Park, and Alberta says the Kananaskis Conservation Pass is not required for the Canmore townsite. You need a Parks Canada pass if you stop in Banff National Park, and a Kananaskis pass to stop at day-use areas in Kananaskis Country.
What vehicle do we need for skis?
Two people with ski bags and suitcases need a business SUV, which takes up to six passengers and six bags. Groups of seven to twelve with gear fit an Executive Sprinter. A sedan takes two bags, which suits couples without equipment.
Is the shuttle cheaper than a private car?
For one or two travellers with standard luggage, a scheduled shuttle priced per seat is usually cheaper. For a family, a group or anyone with skis and golf bags, one private vehicle priced per vehicle often makes more sense, with door-to-door service and no fixed timetable.
