An Anchorage Sprinter van rental with a chauffeur through Elly8.net seats up to 12 passengers with room for 12 bags, and the fixed prices start at US$340 for the run between Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) and downtown, or US$200 an hour as directed with a 3-hour minimum. Every price is per vehicle and all-in: chauffeur, vehicle, taxes and standard gratuity included.
In most cities a Sprinter is a group vehicle. In Anchorage it is also a gear vehicle. Fishing parties, film and survey crews, ski groups and cruise passengers all arrive with more luggage than seats, and the drives that matter, along Turnagain Arm to Girdwood, Whittier and Seward, are long enough that comfort counts. This guide covers which Sprinter to book, what each kind of day costs and when two smaller vehicles are the better call.
When is a Sprinter the right vehicle in Anchorage?
Book an Executive Sprinter when you are seven to twelve people, or fewer people with a lot of gear: rods, coolers, skis, hard cases or two weeks of luggage. It seats 12 with 12 bags. For six or fewer with normal luggage, a business SUV is cheaper by the hour; for a small VIP group, ask about the Jet Sprinter.
The Executive Sprinter is the fixed-price vehicle on our Anchorage price list. The Jet Sprinter, with captain's chairs and a VIP cabin for 6 passengers and 4 bags, is priced in the web booker. Capacities for every class are on the fleet page.

One Sprinter or two SUVs? The arithmetic
This is the question we answer most for Anchorage groups, and the numbers are close enough that it is worth doing properly.
- Airport run. Two business SUVs from ANC to downtown cost 2 x US$170 = US$340, exactly the same as one Executive Sprinter. Two SUVs carry 12 people and 12 bags between them, the same as the Sprinter.
- By the hour. Two SUVs cost 2 x US$125 = US$250 an hour against US$200 for the Sprinter, so on a three-hour booking the Sprinter saves US$150.
- Full day. Two SUVs on the eight-hour package are US$1,840 against US$1,475 for one Sprinter, a saving of US$365.
So the Sprinter wins on time-based bookings and ties on the airport run. Two SUVs still make sense when the group needs to split: half to a hotel downtown, half to a lodge in Girdwood, or a crew where one team leaves for the airport early. They also suit groups where a few passengers need to travel separately for privacy. For everyone travelling together, one vehicle keeps the group together, means one chauffeur to coordinate and one pickup point to find.
The drives that matter: Girdwood, Whittier and Seward
Anchorage's most-booked Sprinter days head south on the Seward Highway along Turnagain Arm, between the Chugach Mountains and the tidal flats. Here are the distances on our routed estimates from downtown, on a clear road:
| Destination | Distance | Clear-road drive | What shapes the timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Girdwood | about 38 mi (62 km) | about 51 min | Ski days, Alyeska, summer weddings |
| Whittier | about 61 mi (98 km) | about 1 hr 25 min | The tunnel schedule |
| Seward | about 127 mi (204 km) | about 2 hr 45 min | Ship departure times, summer traffic |
Girdwood. The signature Seward Highway and Girdwood day is eight hours, US$1,475 in the Sprinter, with stops at pullouts for photographs and wildlife in season, lunch in Girdwood and, if you like, a continuation toward Portage. It is the easiest way to give a group the scenery without anyone having to drive.
Whittier. The only road into Whittier passes through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, which runs on a published schedule with summer and winter timetables. A Whittier transfer is planned around the tunnel opening, not just the clock, so give the desk your ship or boat time and we work back from the right tunnel slot.
Seward. Seward is a long day: close to three hours each way on a clear road before any stops. Cruise transfers there are usually one-way with luggage, and the Sprinter's twelve bags matter. Ask for a fixed quote in the web booker for your ship day, and see cruise port transfers for how we time pier arrivals.
The fair alternative is the train. The Alaska Railroad runs passenger service from Anchorage to Seward and, via Girdwood, to Whittier, and some travellers prefer it for the views. A chauffeured Sprinter makes sense when the group wants door-to-door service, stops of its own choosing, a schedule that does not depend on a train timetable, or simply has too much luggage to manage on and off a platform.
Winter in a Sprinter
From late autumn to spring, Anchorage driving is winter driving, and the Seward Highway can be affected by snow and ice. Check the state's Alaska 511 road conditions before a long day. The chauffeur partner prepares the vehicle and drives these roads routinely; the group's part is to leave time and dress for stops. In winter, plan a cushion of an hour on any Girdwood or Whittier day, and book the full-day package rather than a tight hourly booking.
Winter also brings the city's signature events. Visit Anchorage lists Fur Rondy and the start of the Iditarod among them, and the Iditarod lists its next race for March 6, 2027. For a sponsor group, a media crew or friends in town for the start weekend, a Sprinter on the five-hour evening package or the full day keeps everyone together around the street closures. If the group is celebrating rather than working, our Anchorage party bus guide compares the party vehicles for the same nights.
Who books a Sprinter in Anchorage
Fishing and lodge groups. Arriving at ANC with rod tubes and duffels, and leaving with insulated fish boxes. Tell the desk how many long items and boxes you will have; twelve bags is a guide for standard suitcases.
Film, survey and research crews. More cases than people and early starts. See film and production transportation.
Cruise families. Flying in a day early, staying downtown and travelling to Seward or Whittier the next morning. One Sprinter with everyone's luggage is simpler than a convoy.
Conference teams. The Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center and the William A. Egan Civic and Convention Center are downtown; a Sprinter on an hourly booking moves a team between hotels, venues and dinners. See conference transportation.
Wedding parties. Summer weddings in Anchorage and Girdwood often need a guest shuttle between the hotel, the ceremony and the reception. See wedding limousine.
Corporate visitors. The 10-hour roadshow day at US$1,800 suits a team visiting several sites, with a corporate account for monthly invoicing.
Getting around Anchorage itself
Within the city, the Sprinter spends most of its time between downtown, where most visitors stay, and Midtown's offices and hotels, the airport and Spenard, the Hillside neighbourhoods on the slopes above the city and, for some groups, Eagle River to the north. None of those are long drives, which is why hourly bookings are the norm: the vehicle waits while you are at the meeting, the restaurant or the trailhead, and leaves when you do. A three-hour minimum in the Sprinter is US$600.
For a short city outing, the four-hour private city highlights tour at US$800 covers the downtown, the coastal views and a stop of your choosing. See private city tours and hourly chauffeur service.
A sample cruise-week plan for ten
To show how the pieces fit, here is a common pattern for a family group of ten flying in before a cruise from the Kenai Peninsula.
Day one. The group lands at ANC on two flights in the evening. One Executive Sprinter, US$340 to downtown, waits for the second flight; the desk tracks both. Everyone checks in at the same hotel with all the luggage in one vehicle.
Day two. A free morning downtown, then the four-hour private city highlights tour in the afternoon at US$800, so the grandparents see the coastal views without a long walk.
Day three. The transfer to the ship, quoted in the web booker as a one-way Sprinter run with twelve bags, leaving early enough to allow for summer traffic and, for Whittier, the right tunnel slot.
Divided across ten travellers, the airport run works out at US$34 each; we show that only as arithmetic, since the fare is per vehicle. The point is that one vehicle carries the whole group and its luggage at every stage.
How to choose and book
- Count passengers and bags, including long or bulky items. Seven or more people, or heavy gear, points to the Sprinter.
- Decide the shape of the day: airport run, hourly, a package or a long-distance quote to Whittier or Seward.
- Enter the pickup and drop-off, add a flight number for ANC pickups, and Reserve now or use the web booker. Confirmation arrives by email.
Rides in Anchorage are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Our Seattle and Vancouver pages have fixed Sprinter fares too.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a Sprinter van with driver in Anchorage?
On Elly8.net, an Executive Sprinter is US$340 between ANC and downtown, US$200 an hour as directed with a 3-hour minimum, US$1,000 for the five-hour evening package and US$1,475 for a full eight-hour day. Prices are fixed, per vehicle, and include chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity.
How many people and bags fit in an Anchorage Sprinter?
The Executive Sprinter seats 12 passengers with room for 12 standard bags. The Jet Sprinter, priced in the web booker, seats 6 with 4 bags in a VIP cabin. For rods, skis, coolers or fish boxes, list them in your booking notes so the desk can confirm the fit.
Can a Sprinter take us from Anchorage to Seward or Whittier?
Yes, with a fixed quote in the web booker for your date. Seward is about 127 miles (204 km) from downtown on our routed estimate, and Whittier transfers are timed to the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel schedule. Give the desk your ship or boat departure time.
Is one Sprinter cheaper than two SUVs?
For the airport run they cost the same: US$340 either way. By the hour and for full days, the Sprinter is cheaper, US$200 an hour against US$250 for two business SUVs, and US$1,475 against US$1,840 for an eight-hour day. Two SUVs suit groups that need to split up.
Do you run Sprinters in winter?
Yes. Winter driving is normal in Anchorage, and the chauffeur partner prepares the vehicle. For long days on the Seward Highway, allow extra time, check Alaska 511 road conditions and book a full-day package rather than a tight hourly booking.
Can we book a Sprinter for a fishing group arriving at ANC?
Yes. Add your flight numbers, the number of anglers and a list of rod tubes, duffels and coolers. The desk confirms the vehicle, tracks the flights and the chauffeur meets the group inside arrivals with a name board. A return with fish boxes can be booked at the same time.
