The Fort Lauderdale airport shuttle that is right for you depends on where you are going. If your hotel runs a free shuttle, take it: nothing beats free for a short hop. If you are heading north to Palm Beach in daylight, the Brightline connector and train are worth a look. But for families, cruise passengers, late arrivals and groups, a door-to-door car from FLL to Fort Lauderdale Beach at a fixed US$120 in a Business Sedan or US$160 in a Business SUV is often the simpler and, per person, competitive choice.
This comparison uses Broward County's own ground transportation information for Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), with the shuttle stops, operating hours and taxi estimates the county publishes. It says plainly when a shuttle is the smarter call.
What airport shuttles run at FLL?
FLL has free hotel shuttles, free Rental Car Center buses running 24 hours, a free shuttle to the Tri-Rail station at Dania Beach, a Brightline connector shuttle from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at a flat per-person fare, and off-airport parking shuttles. The county's list does not include a shared door-to-door shuttle service.
That last point surprises people. Many travellers search for "the airport shuttle" expecting a shared van that drops each passenger at their hotel. At FLL, the shuttles on the county's list either serve one hotel, one car rental building or one train station. The sections below take each in turn, using the county's FLL ground transportation page.

Free hotel shuttles
Many hotels near the airport and the beach offer free shuttles from FLL. Pickups are in designated areas on the lower level (Arrivals) curbside, following the hotel wayfinding signs, and the hotel tells you how to request the van and how often it runs.
Two details matter at FLL right now. The county notes that the curbside ground transportation area for Terminals 2 and 3 (GTA 2) closed in March 2025, and the area east of Terminal 4 (GTA 4) closed in April 2025, until further notice, to allow construction of a walkway linking Terminals 2 and 3. Hotel shuttles now use GTA 1 at Terminal 1 and GTA 3 between Terminals 3 and 4. Expect a short walk with your bags.
Worth it? Yes, if your hotel runs one and you are not in a hurry. It is free, it goes to the right door, and the wait is usually short. Check the hotel's hours before you fly, especially for late arrivals.
Rental Car Center shuttles
The Rental Car Center sits next to Terminal 1 and holds 12 rental companies in one building. Travellers at Terminal 1 walk across the Concourse B pedestrian bridge on level 2; those at Terminals 2, 3 and 4 take the free shuttle bus from outside baggage claim on the lower level. The county says the service runs every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day.
Worth it? Only if you are renting a car. It is a building-to-building bus, not a way into town. If you are, compare the daily rate with what you will spend on beach hotel parking and fuel; our chauffeur vs car rental guide sets out the trade-off.
The Tri-Rail connector
Tri-Rail is the commuter train serving Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Free shuttle buses run from the FLL terminals to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport station at Dania Beach, a short ride away. The shuttle stops are on the lower level: at GTA 1 at the west end of Terminal 1, at GTA 2 between Terminals 2 and 3, and at the west end of Terminal 4 (GTA 3, between Terminals 3 and 4).
Worth it? For a solo traveller or a couple with light bags going up or down the coast to a hotel near a Tri-Rail station, yes. It is cheap and avoids I-95. It is less practical for Fort Lauderdale Beach, which is not on the rail line, and for anyone with heavy luggage, because the trip involves a shuttle, a platform and another transfer at the other end.
The Brightline connector
Brightline, the intercity rail operator, runs an airport connector shuttle between FLL and its South Florida stations. According to the county, it operates every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with pickups on the lower-level roadway at GTA 1 (Terminal 1), GTA 2 (between Terminals 2 and 3) and GTA 3 (between Terminals 3 and 4). The last shuttle leaves the Terminal 3 stop at 8 p.m., and one-way rides are a flat rate per person.
Worth it? For a daytime traveller heading to West Palm Beach or Miami with one or two bags, it can be a comfortable option. It does not run after 8 p.m., the fare is per person rather than per vehicle, and you still need to get from the destination station to your hotel. For a family of four, the per-person fares and the final leg add up quickly.
Public bus
Broward County Transit Route 1 serves the airport from the Rental Car Center, Stop G, and runs daily. It is the cheapest way out of the airport, with the usual bus trade-offs: stops along the way, limited space for big luggage and a walk at the end.
Off-airport parking shuttles
Off-airport parking lots run their own shuttles, also from the GTA areas. They only make sense if you left a car there.
Taxis and app rides: the walk-up alternatives
Taxi fares in Broward County are regulated by law, and the county publishes estimates from FLL. Taxi podiums are on the lower level at each terminal. App rides pick up in designated areas: near Terminal 2, a temporary area for Terminal 1 beyond the taxi podium, and the first floor of the southern Palm Garage for Terminals 3 and 4, according to the county's ride-sharing page. App prices are set at the time of request and change with demand; our chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft guide explains surge pricing and pickup zones.
The county's estimates for a standard taxi, which can vary and are subject to a fuel surcharge:
| From FLL to | Taxi estimate | Luxury sedan estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Port Everglades | US$18 to US$21 | US$45 |
| Miami International | US$72 | US$90 |
| South Beach | US$80 | US$85 |
| PortMiami | US$86 | US$90 |
| West Palm Beach International | US$135 | US$145 |

The child seat column deserves attention. The county states that the airport and its transportation providers cannot provide child safety seats of any type, and Florida law, section 316.613, requires a crash-tested child restraint for children 5 and younger. With a shuttle or a walk-up taxi, you bring your own seat. With Elly8.net, seats are fitted on request before pickup.
When a door-to-door car is worth it
Per vehicle pricing changes the arithmetic for groups. Four adults in a Business SUV from FLL to Fort Lauderdale Beach pay US$160 in total, US$40 each, with taxes and standard gratuity included. A family of five with cruise luggage pays the same US$160. Twelve people in an Executive Sprinter pay US$315, about US$26 each.
A pre-booked car is the better choice when:
- You land after 8 p.m., when the Brightline connector has stopped and hotel shuttle hours may have ended.
- You are travelling with young children, because seats are fitted in advance.
- You are going to a cruise, with photo ID needed for everyone 18 and over at the Port Everglades checkpoint, per the port's arrival guide, and a fixed check-in window to meet; see cruise port transfers.
- Your hotel is on the beach and has no shuttle, which rules out the rail connectors entirely.
- You have golf bags, cruise trunks or a group, where one vehicle replaces several.
- You need to be somewhere on time, such as a meeting or a ship. Business travellers can put these rides on an account; see our Fort Lauderdale executive car service guide.
When a shuttle is the better choice: your hotel's free shuttle goes there, you are travelling light, or you are a solo traveller heading north on the train in daylight. Our chauffeur vs shared airport shuttle page covers the general case.
What the fixed price includes
Every Elly8.net airport transfer fare, listed on the Fort Lauderdale car service page, includes the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet, with the flight tracked and the chauffeur waiting inside arrivals with a name board. Complimentary waiting after a tracked landing covers delays and slow bags. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. The fare is the same in either direction, so the return to FLL from the beach is also US$120 in a Business Sedan, and a round trip booked together is US$230.
Our FLL car service guide explains the pickup step by step. Rides in Fort Lauderdale are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. For groups, see group transportation and the Fort Lauderdale Sprinter van rental guide.
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less and 100% at 24 hours or less or a no-show, refunded to the original card. Elly8.net is a member of LimousineWorldwide.Directory and LimousineAssociation.International.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a shared shuttle from FLL to Fort Lauderdale Beach?
Broward County's list of ground transportation options at FLL does not include a shared door-to-door shuttle. Some beach hotels run their own free shuttles, so ask yours. Otherwise, the choices are a taxi, an app ride or a pre-booked car, which is US$120 in a Business Sedan to the beach.
Where do hotel shuttles pick up at FLL?
On the lower level (Arrivals) curbside, in designated ground transportation areas. With the Terminal 2 and 3 area and the area east of Terminal 4 closed for construction, hotel shuttles use GTA 1 at Terminal 1 and GTA 3 between Terminals 3 and 4. Follow the hotel wayfinding signs.
What time does the Brightline shuttle run from FLL?
The Brightline airport connector runs every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to Broward County, with the last shuttle leaving the Terminal 3 stop at 8 p.m. It picks up on the lower-level roadway at Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and one-way rides are a flat rate per person.
Is a taxi cheaper than a shuttle from FLL?
For one person, a free hotel shuttle or the bus is cheaper. For a group, the gap closes: a taxi or a pre-booked SUV is priced per vehicle, not per person. The county's taxi estimate to Port Everglades is US$18 to US$21; a Business SUV to the beach is US$160 for up to six.
Can shuttles provide child seats?
No. The county states that the airport and its transportation providers cannot provide child safety seats of any type, and Florida law requires a restraint for children 5 and younger. Bring your own, or book an Elly8.net car with seats fitted on request.
Is a pre-booked car worth it for two people?
It depends on the hour and the bags. For two people travelling light in daylight with a hotel shuttle available, probably not. For a late arrival, a cruise morning, golf bags or a hotel without a shuttle, a Business Sedan at US$120, waiting inside arrivals, often is.
