A taxi from Boston airport is the simplest walk-up option at Logan: taxis wait at stands on the Arrivals level of all four terminals, dispatchers help you into the next cab, and the meter runs from there. For a short ride to a downtown or Seaport hotel outside rush hour it is hard to beat for convenience. It becomes less attractive when the tunnels jam, the queue is long, or the group is too big for one cab.
This guide works through Logan by destination and by time of day, because those two things decide the answer far more than the brand of car. Rides in Boston are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk, so where our car is the better choice we say so, and where it is not we say that too.
How does a taxi from Logan Airport work?
Taxis load at designated stands on the Arrivals level of Terminals A, B, C and E, with dispatchers in every terminal, according to Massport. Boston taxis are metered, so traffic and tolls set the final fare. Waits can be longer at peak times. A pre-booked Elly8.net car to Back Bay is a fixed US$130.
Massport's taxis and limos page is the official reference: follow the Ground Transportation and Taxi signs from baggage claim, join the line at the stand and the dispatcher assigns the next cab. There is no booking and no app. You pay what the meter shows at the end, plus the tolls on the route, and a tip is customary.
What the stand does not give you is a price in advance or a guaranteed vehicle type. A family with a stroller and five bags may wait for a larger cab, and nobody at the stand can promise a child seat.
The five options at Logan, in one place
Before going destination by destination, here is the full menu, using the published rules from Massport and the MBTA and our own price list.
- Taxi: curbside at the Arrivals level, metered, tolls added.
- Uber or Lyft: pickup in the Central Parking Garage for Terminals A, C and E, and on Level 2 of the Terminal B Parking Garage, according to Massport's ride app page; price set by the app at the moment you request. Our post on Uber from Logan Airport covers the garage pickup and surge in detail.
- MBTA Silver Line SL1: free from every terminal to South Station, per the MBTA; a free Massport shuttle also connects the terminals to Airport station on the Blue Line.
- Logan Express coaches: Back Bay is US$3 to the airport with a free ride back, and the suburban routes to Braintree, Danvers, Framingham and Woburn are US$9 each way online, according to Massport.
- Pre-booked car: Elly8.net from US$130 in a Business Sedan to Back Bay, fixed and all-in, with the chauffeur waiting inside arrivals.
Destination by destination
Back Bay, Copley and the Prudential Center
This is the reference route on our price list: about 5 miles (9 km), around 13 minutes on a clear road. A taxi is quick when the Ted Williams Tunnel is flowing and slow when it is not. The Back Bay Logan Express is the genuine bargain here, free from the airport, but it leaves you at the coach stop rather than your hotel door.
Elly8.net fares to Back Bay: US$130 Business Sedan, US$170 Business SUV, US$210 First Class SUV, US$230 First Class Sedan, US$340 Executive Sprinter. For a couple on a business trip with two full suitcases, the sedan is the usual choice; for a family, the SUV.
Seaport and the convention centre
The Seaport sits just across the harbour from Logan, and the Silver Line runs through it toward South Station, which makes the free bus very practical for a light traveller heading to a Seaport hotel or to the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center. A taxi is also short and sensible off-peak. Exhibitors with sample cases, or a team arriving together for a show such as Seafood Expo North America, which returns on March 7 to 9, 2027 according to Seafood Expo, are where a Business SUV or Sprinter pays for itself. See conference transportation.
Downtown, the Financial District and the North End
Downtown hotels are close to the Back Bay fare and often reachable on the Blue Line after the free shuttle. Taxis are fine for one or two people. A booked car makes sense when you are going straight to a meeting and need to arrive on time with a known cost, which is why many firms book downtown arrivals through a corporate account.
Cambridge, Kendall Square and Harvard
Cambridge is across the Charles, so the ride lengthens and the traffic patterns change with Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive. By transit it means the Silver Line to South Station and the Red Line onward, with a change. A taxi or app ride is a direct alternative. Cambridge addresses are not on our fixed list; the web booker prices them exactly before you pay. Biotech teams and visiting faculty are among our most frequent Cambridge passengers.
Suburbs north, west and south
For Woburn, Framingham, Braintree and Danvers, the suburban Logan Express is the clear value option if you can get from the coach lot to your final address. A taxi to the suburbs runs a long meter. A booked car is priced exactly in the booker and is often chosen by families going home with children and luggage, or by visitors heading to a suburban office park.
Hanscom Field, Providence and beyond
Private flyers arriving at Hanscom Field in Bedford are met at their FBO; Hanscom to Back Bay is US$215 to US$560 depending on the vehicle. Travellers continuing to Rhode Island can use our Providence car service, and longer one-way trips to Hartford or New York City are priced through the city to city car service. Summer arrivals bound for the Cape should read our guide to Boston to Cape Cod by private car, which compares the car with the seasonal train and the Logan buses.
Hour by hour: when each option wins
| Arrival time | Taxi | Uber or Lyft | Silver Line or Logan Express | Elly8.net booked car |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekday | good, short line usually | good, garage walk | best value, frequent service | worth it for meetings and families |
| 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., weekday | meter rises in tunnel traffic | demand pricing likely | best value if travelling light | strongest case: price fixed regardless of traffic |
| Game or concert night at TD Garden | longer waits likely | demand pricing likely | crowded but free from the airport | chauffeur already assigned |
| After 11 p.m. | fine if the stand is staffed | fine if drivers are nearby | check the last service times | strongest case: waiting is planned, not hoped for |
| Weather delays and diverted flights | queues build | prices rise | delays across the network | flight tracked, pickup moves with the landing |
The pattern is simple. Off-peak and travelling light, the cheap options are excellent. At peak, at night, in bad weather or with a group, the value of a fixed price and a known pickup grows quickly.
Group size changes the arithmetic
One cab carries a small group, but larger parties often need two taxis or two app rides, each with its own meter or price. An Executive Sprinter seats up to 12 with 12 bags for US$340 to Back Bay, fixed and all-in. For a wedding party, a team offsite or two families travelling together, that is often less per person than two or three separate cars, and nobody is left at the stand waiting for the second vehicle. Our group transportation page explains how we load manifests for larger arrivals.
Children change it again. Taxis and app rides do not guarantee child seats. With Elly8.net, seats are on request, fitted before pickup, and the Business SUV at US$170 has room for the seats and the stroller.
Is a taxi cheaper than a car service from Logan?
On a clear road for one or two people to a nearby hotel, a taxi will usually cost less than our Business Sedan. That is the honest comparison, and for that trip we would not argue with the taxi. The booked car is worth the difference when the price must be known in advance, when the ride includes a gratuity your company has to pre-approve, when you want the driver waiting inside arrivals instead of a queue, or when the traffic would push a metered fare up anyway.

Going to Logan: the reverse trip
Departures have their own logic. The Back Bay Logan Express costs US$3 to the airport, the MBTA says a transfer from the Red Line to the Silver Line toward the airport is free, and a taxi or app ride drops you at the departures curb. A booked car is most useful for early-morning flights, when you want the pickup confirmed the night before, and for families who need seats. A Logan round trip from Back Bay is US$250 in a Business Sedan and US$325 in a Business SUV, so one booking covers arrival and departure.
Plan for the tunnel, not the mileage. Logan is close, but every route funnels into the harbour crossings. For a weekday afternoon departure, leave more time than the distance suggests.

Frequently asked questions
Where are the taxis at Logan Airport?
Massport places taxi stands on the Arrivals level of Terminals A, B, C and E, with a dispatcher in each terminal. Follow the Ground Transportation and Taxi signs from baggage claim. During peak travel times the line can be longer, and the airport advises allowing for that.
Does a Logan taxi have a flat rate to downtown Boston?
No published flat fare applies from Logan to Back Bay or downtown. Boston taxis are metered, so the fare depends on distance, traffic and tolls. If you need a fixed price, an Elly8.net Business Sedan to Back Bay is US$130 all-in, including taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet.
What is the cheapest way from Logan to Back Bay?
The Back Bay Logan Express is free from the airport, and the Silver Line SL1 is free to South Station, according to Massport and the MBTA. Both suit a traveller with light luggage. The trade-off is the walk or transfer at the other end.
Is a car service worth it for a short trip from Logan?
For one person with a carry-on at mid-day, usually not. It is worth it at peak hours, late at night, for families needing child seats, for groups that would need two cabs, and for business travellers who need a fixed, pre-approved cost and a driver waiting inside arrivals.
How far ahead should a Logan car be booked?
Any time before the flight works when cars are available, but book as soon as plans are set for Marathon weekend, graduation season in May and June, and big convention weeks. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, so early booking carries little risk.
Can Elly8.net meet a delayed or diverted flight?
Yes. We track the flight and move the pickup to the actual landing, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. If a flight is diverted or cancelled, the 24/7 desk rebooks the pickup for the new arrival rather than treating it as a no-show.
