A Boston to Cape Cod car service covers about 71 miles (114 km) from Back Bay to Hyannis, or about 74 miles (119 km) from Logan Airport, and on a clear road that is roughly an hour and forty minutes. Woods Hole, for the Martha's Vineyard ferry, is about 78 miles (125 km) from Logan, Chatham about 90 miles (145 km) and Provincetown, at the tip, about 118 miles (190 km). Those are clear-road figures; every Cape trip is really decided at the two bridges over the Cape Cod Canal.
A private car makes most sense for families with luggage, for anyone with a ferry to catch, and for arrivals at Logan who want to go straight to the Cape without a transfer. For one traveller on a summer weekend, the seasonal train or the bus can be the better value, and we say so below. Rides from Boston are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
How long is the drive from Boston to Cape Cod?
On a clear road, Logan to Hyannis takes about 1 hour 40 minutes (74 miles, 119 km), Woods Hole about 1 hour 50 minutes, Chatham just over 2 hours and Provincetown about 2 hours 50 minutes. Summer Fridays, holiday weekends and Sunday afternoons heading back can add a great deal at the canal bridges.
Those times are routed estimates on a clear road. The real variable is the canal: everything driving onto or off the Cape funnels across either the Sagamore Bridge, which carries Route 3 traffic toward the Mid Cape and the Outer Cape, or the Bourne Bridge, which leads toward Falmouth and Woods Hole. Plan the departure time around those crossings rather than the mileage.
Drive times by destination
The table uses routed road distances and clear-road times. Allow extra on summer weekends, and more for a ferry connection.
| From | To | Distance | Clear-road time | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Back Bay | Sagamore Bridge | 54 mi (88 km) | about 1 h 15 min | gateway to the Mid and Outer Cape |
| Back Bay | Hyannis ferry terminal | 71 mi (114 km) | about 1 h 40 min | Nantucket ferries |
| Logan (BOS) | Hyannis ferry terminal | 74 mi (119 km) | about 1 h 40 min | direct from arrivals |
| Logan (BOS) | Falmouth | 74 mi (120 km) | about 1 h 45 min | via the Bourne Bridge |
| Logan (BOS) | Woods Hole ferry terminal | 78 mi (125 km) | about 1 h 50 min | Martha's Vineyard ferries |
| Logan (BOS) | Chatham | 90 mi (145 km) | about 2 h 05 min | the elbow of the Cape |
| Logan (BOS) | Provincetown | 118 mi (190 km) | about 2 h 50 min | the full length of Route 6 |
Two routes, two bridges
For Hyannis, Barnstable, Chatham, Orleans, Wellfleet and Provincetown, the usual route leaves Boston on the Southeast Expressway and follows Route 3 south past Plymouth to the Sagamore Bridge, then Route 6 along the Cape. For Falmouth, Woods Hole and the Upper Cape towns, the route usually crosses at the Bourne Bridge. Your chauffeur chooses between them on the day, depending on traffic at each crossing.
The pattern of Cape traffic is well known to anyone who lives in Massachusetts: heavy toward the Cape on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings in summer, and heavy back toward Boston on Sunday afternoons. Leaving Boston before the Friday rush, or late in the evening, makes the biggest difference to the journey time. With a booked car, the departure time is yours to choose, and the price does not change with the traffic.
Making the ferry
Many Cape trips end on a boat. The Steamship Authority runs ferries from Woods Hole, at 1 Cowdry Road, to Martha's Vineyard, and from Hyannis, at 69 South Street, to Nantucket. It notes that passengers not travelling with a vehicle do not need a reservation and can buy tickets at the terminal or as eFerry tickets on a phone.
A ferry turns the drive into a timed transfer. Give us the sailing time when you book and we plan the pickup backward from it, with a buffer for the bridge. If you land at Logan and are going straight to the boat, add the flight number: the chauffeur tracks the flight, meets you inside arrivals with a name board and goes directly to Woods Hole or Hyannis. On the way back, a pickup at the ferry terminal can be timed to the arrival of your boat.
The honest alternatives: train, bus or car
Cape Cod has good public options, especially in summer, and for some travellers they are the right choice.
The CapeFLYER train. According to the CapeFLYER, it is a summer weekend passenger train that runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, from South Station to Hyannis, with stops at Braintree, Brockton, Lakeville, Wareham Village, Buzzards Bay and Bourne. It does not run on weekdays. Children under 11 ride free and bikes travel free. For a couple or a family heading to Hyannis on a summer weekend, with light bags, it avoids the bridge traffic entirely.
The bus. Plymouth & Brockton runs express buses from Hyannis, Woods Hole, Falmouth, Barnstable, Sagamore, Plymouth and Rockland to South Station and Logan Airport, with tickets bought before boarding. It is a year-round, straightforward option for one or two travellers with standard luggage.
A private car. Door to door, from arrivals or your Boston hotel to the house, the inn or the ferry. It wins for families with children who need seats, for groups with beach and golf luggage, for anyone landing outside train days, and for travellers who want to stop on the way.
| Option | Runs | Door to door | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CapeFLYER train | summer weekends only | no, station to station | normal train luggage, bikes free | couples and families to Hyannis in summer |
| Express bus | year-round, scheduled | no, stop to stop | standard bags | one or two travellers, Logan or South Station |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan | any time you choose | yes | up to 3 passengers, 2 bags | couples, business travellers |
| Elly8.net Business SUV | any time you choose | yes | up to 6 passengers, 6 bags, child seats | families, golf bags |
| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | any time you choose | yes | up to 12 passengers, 12 bags | wedding guests, two families |
Stops worth making on the way
A private car turns the drive into part of the trip. On the Route 3 side, Plymouth sits just off the highway before the Sagamore Bridge, with its harbour and waterfront, and makes an easy break for lunch or a walk. On the Bourne side, the towns around Buzzards Bay are close to the canal. On the Cape itself, a stop in Hyannis or Barnstable village breaks the long drive to Provincetown.
If you want stops, book by the hour rather than as a transfer, so the chauffeur waits while you walk. Hourly rates from Boston run from US$100 in a Business Sedan to US$200 in an Executive Sprinter, with a three-hour minimum. See hourly chauffeur and private city tours for how waiting works.
What a Boston to Cape Cod car costs
The Cape is not on our fixed Boston price list, because the towns are spread along 70 miles of peninsula and a Falmouth drop-off is a very different trip from Provincetown. Instead, the web booker prices your exact pickup and drop-off before you pay, and that number is fixed and all-in, including the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and, from Logan, meet and greet. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
For context, the published prices on our Boston car service page are: Logan to Back Bay from US$130 in a Business Sedan to US$340 in an Executive Sprinter; hourly from US$100; and the full-day chauffeur from US$740 in a Business Sedan to US$1,475 in an Executive Sprinter. A day trip to the Cape and back, with the car waiting, fits the full-day line; a one-way transfer is quoted as a route. Our breakdown of Boston limo rental prices explains how each line is built.
Cape Cod to Logan: the return trip
The reverse trip is one of the most searched in New England: a car service from Cape Cod to Logan Airport for a departing flight. Plan it with more buffer than the outbound, because Sunday afternoon traffic toward Boston backs up at the bridges and then again on the approach to the harbour tunnels. Give us the flight time and the address and we suggest a pickup time; for a Sunday evening flight from Logan, we usually recommend leaving the Cape earlier than the clear-road time suggests.
Cape weddings and group weekends
Many Boston weddings happen on the Cape, and guests fly into Logan from across the country. An Executive Sprinter moves up to 12 guests and their bags from arrivals to the inn in one trip, and a second Sprinter can run a later flight bank. Our guide to the Boston wedding limo explains how to count cars, and the wedding limousine and group transportation pages cover guest shuttles.
Arriving at Logan and wondering whether an app ride to the Cape is an option? Our comparison of Uber from Logan Airport explains the garage pickups and app pricing; for a 74-mile trip with family luggage, a pre-booked car is usually the calmer choice.
Beyond the Cape
The Cape is one of several long days out of Boston. The signature Boston day trip is Newport, Rhode Island, a 10-hour package from US$920 in a Business Sedan; Providence is on the way. In summer, The Hamptons draw many of the same travellers, and a one-way city to city car service covers longer routes such as Boston to New York.
How to book Boston to Cape Cod

Frequently asked questions
How much is a car service from Boston to Cape Cod?
The Cape is priced route by route in the web booker, fixed and all-in before you pay, because the towns are far apart. For context, Boston hourly rates start at US$100 in a Business Sedan, and the full-day chauffeur starts at US$740. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
How long does it take to get from Logan to Hyannis?
About 1 hour 40 minutes on a clear road, for about 74 miles (119 km). Summer Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings toward the Cape, and Sunday afternoons back, can take considerably longer at the canal bridges, so plan departures around those times.
Can you get me to the Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket ferry on time?
Yes. Give us the sailing time and terminal: Woods Hole for Martha's Vineyard or Hyannis for Nantucket. We plan the pickup backward from the sailing with a buffer for the bridges. From Logan, the chauffeur tracks the flight and goes straight to the dock.
Is the CapeFLYER train a good alternative?
For summer weekend trips to Hyannis with light luggage, yes. The CapeFLYER runs on weekends from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day from South Station, and avoids bridge traffic. It does not run weekdays, so weekday and off-season trips need the bus or a car.
Can we stop in Plymouth on the way to the Cape?
Yes. Book by the hour instead of as a one-way transfer, and the chauffeur waits while you stop. Plymouth is just off Route 3 before the Sagamore Bridge, which makes it an easy lunch break on the way to the Mid or Outer Cape.
Do you provide child seats for Cape trips?
Yes, on request. Add each child's age and weight when you book and the seats are fitted before pickup. For a family with beach luggage and seats, a Business SUV, which carries up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, is the usual choice.
