A car service from Milwaukee to Chicago covers about 92 mi (149 km) from downtown Milwaukee to the Loop, roughly 1 hour 55 minutes on a clear road on I-94. With Elly8.net the price is fixed before you leave: enter both addresses in the web booker and you see one all-in fare per vehicle, with the chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity included and tolls billed at cost.
This guide is for families heading to a Chicago weekend, executives with a morning meeting on Wacker Drive, wedding guests and anyone flying out of O'Hare. Rides in Chicago are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
How long does it take to drive from Milwaukee to Chicago?
On a clear road, downtown Milwaukee to the Chicago Loop is about 92 mi (149 km) and 1 hour 55 minutes by car. Downtown Milwaukee to O'Hare is about 85 mi (137 km) and roughly 2 hours. Weekday rush hours, Friday afternoons and big Chicago events add time, so the desk schedules pickups with a buffer.
The clear-road figure is the floor, not the forecast. The route is I-94 almost the whole way: south past Mitchell Airport, Racine and Kenosha, across the Illinois state line, then down through the northern suburbs until it joins the Kennedy Expressway for the final miles into downtown. Most of the variability sits in the last 25 miles, where Chicago's evening rush and lane closures can turn a two-hour trip into three.
Here are the drives our chauffeurs plan most often, measured on the road network with no traffic.
| From | To | Road distance | Clear-road drive | Plan for at peak |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Milwaukee | The Loop / Magnificent Mile | about 92 mi (149 km) | about 1 h 55 min | 2 h 30 min to 3 h |
| Downtown Milwaukee | Chicago Union Station | about 91 mi (147 km) | about 1 h 50 min | 2 h 30 min or more |
| Downtown Milwaukee | McCormick Place | about 95 mi (152 km) | about 2 h | 2 h 30 min to 3 h |
| Downtown Milwaukee | O'Hare (ORD) | about 85 mi (137 km) | about 2 h | 2 h 30 min or more |
| Mitchell Airport (MKE) | The Loop | about 86 mi (139 km) | about 1 h 50 min | 2 h 30 min or more |
| Downtown Milwaukee | Kenosha, a natural stop | about 40 mi (65 km) | about 55 min | 1 h 10 min |
The peak column is desk guidance: what we allow when a pickup must meet a fixed time, such as an O'Hare check-in.
When to leave Milwaukee
A few timing patterns we plan around every week:
- Early morning for a morning meeting. Leaving downtown Milwaukee around 5:30 to 6 am usually beats the worst of Chicago's inbound rush and lands you in the Loop before 8:30. If the meeting is at 9 am sharp, we pick up earlier rather than later.
- Mid-morning is the easy window. Between about 9:30 am and 2 pm the drive tends to run close to the clear-road time in both states.
- Avoid a 3 pm to 6 pm arrival into Chicago. Afternoon traffic on the expressways is the single biggest cause of slow runs. If you must arrive downtown in that window, book a pickup with an hour of buffer.
- Friday afternoons and holiday weekends are heavier on I-94 in both directions, especially in summer, when Wisconsin weekends pull Chicago traffic north at the same time you are heading south.
For an O'Hare departure, tell the desk your flight number and terminal and we work backwards from the airline's recommended arrival time. The fare is fixed either way; you do not pay more because the drive took longer.

What a Milwaukee to Chicago car service costs
There is no single published price for this route, because "Milwaukee" and "Chicago" each cover a lot of addresses. A Brookfield home to a River North hotel is a different job from a Third Ward office to McCormick Place. The web booker prices your exact pickup and drop-off in every vehicle class, and the price it shows is the price you pay: fixed and all-in per vehicle, not per person.
What is included is the same as every Elly8.net fare: the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes and standard gratuity. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. The vehicle choice drives the price more than anything else:
- Business sedan: up to 3 passengers and 2 bags, for one or two travellers.
- Business SUV: up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, for families, golf bags or large checked cases.
- First Class sedan or SUV: when the car itself matters, for a client or an occasion.
- Executive Sprinter: up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, for wedding parties, show teams or a group flight.
To put the long-distance fare in context, here are the fixed prices at each end of the trip. In Chicago, O'Hare to the Loop is US$215 in a business sedan and US$560 in an Executive Sprinter, and Midway to the Loop starts at US$160. In Milwaukee, Mitchell Airport to downtown starts at US$120. Chicago chauffeurs by the hour run from US$100 an hour in a business sedan to US$200 in a Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum, which is useful once you are in the city. The full Chicago grid is on our Chicago limo service page, and the Wisconsin side is on the Milwaukee car service page.
Stops worth making on I-94
A private car stops where you want. Add stops when you book, so the desk builds them into the schedule and the price.
Kenosha. About 40 mi (65 km) south of downtown Milwaukee, Kenosha is the obvious halfway point. Its tourism office, Visit Kenosha, highlights the lakefront harbor with its two lighthouses, Simmons Island, the HarborPark area downtown and the electric streetcar, and it lists two roadside institutions many of our passengers ask for by name: Mars Cheese Castle and the Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets. A 30 to 45 minute stop for cheese, coffee or a quick shop is easy to fit in.
Racine. A short detour off I-94 towards the lake, for travellers who want a meal on the way or a quick visit to family.
The North Shore suburbs. Many trips end north of the city rather than downtown: Glenview, Evanston, Wilmette or Highland Park. If your drop-off is there, the drive is shorter and skips the downtown approach entirely.
A second pickup. A common booking collects one passenger in Milwaukee and another in Kenosha or Racine before heading to O'Hare. That is a multi-stop trip, and the booker prices it as one job.
A 20-minute stop is easily absorbed into the schedule; a long lunch is better booked with the chauffeur staying with you, so nobody is racing a fixed arrival time.
Private car vs the Hiawatha train, rideshare and driving yourself
This route has a genuinely good train, and we would rather you take it when it fits your trip. Here is an honest comparison.
The Amtrak Hiawatha links Milwaukee and Chicago with seven round trips a day, according to the service's own site, and its published fares between Milwaukee and Chicago run from US$19 to US$37, depending on demand and how early you buy (Amtrak Hiawatha schedules and fares). The timetable shows most southbound trains taking about 1 hour 30 minutes from Milwaukee's Intermodal Station to Chicago Union Station, with stops at the Milwaukee Airport Rail Station, Sturtevant and Glenview. For one traveller with a carry-on going downtown to downtown, that is hard to beat.
Rideshare apps will take you to Chicago, but the price for a long one-way trip is set by the app at the moment you request it, it moves with demand, and surge pricing applies. No rideshare price is published for this route, so we will not guess one. Our fare is agreed before you travel and does not surge.
Driving yourself is fine until Chicago, where hotel parking adds up and the last 25 miles are the hardest part of the trip.
| Option | Price | Door to door | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amtrak Hiawatha | US$19 to US$37 per person | about 1 h 30 min station to station, plus getting to and from the stations | One traveller, light bag, downtown to downtown |
| Rideshare (Uber, Lyft, Uber Black) | set by the app at request time, surge applies | about 2 h on a clear road | Flexible plans, off-peak trips |
| Your own car | fuel, tolls and Chicago parking | about 2 h on a clear road | Travellers who need the car in Chicago |
| Elly8.net private car | fixed all-in quote in the web booker | about 2 h on a clear road, from your door | Groups, bags, O'Hare flights, meetings, stops on the way |
The private car wins when the arithmetic changes: four people with luggage pay for one vehicle, not four tickets plus two taxis; a family with child seats goes door to door without changing trains; an executive works on the way and arrives at the building entrance; and anyone heading to O'Hare avoids a train-to-terminal connection with bags. Our chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft comparison sets out the trade-offs in more detail.
Milwaukee to O'Hare: the most common version of this trip
Many Wisconsin travellers fly long-haul and international through O'Hare, and the airport run is the booking we handle most on this route. Add your flight number and departure terminal when you book. O'Hare has Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5, with Terminal 5 handling most international flights, and the chauffeur drops you at the right departures door.
For arrivals into O'Hare heading home to Wisconsin, the routine is the same as any Chicago airport transfer: the flight is tracked, the chauffeur waits in baggage claim with a name board, and complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing. The Chicago Department of Aviation describes this meeting point for pre-arranged limousines on its O'Hare ground transportation page. From there it is one run north, without a connection at Union Station. For the Milwaukee end, Mitchell's own ground transportation page explains its taxi and rideshare points if you are comparing options from MKE.
Arriving in Chicago: hotels, Union Station and McCormick Place
Michigan Avenue and Gold Coast hotels often have tight motor courts or side-street entrances, and Loop towers on Wacker Drive and LaSalle Street usually have a preferred drop-off point. Tell the desk which door you want.
If you are connecting to another train, the drop-off is Chicago Union Station on the west edge of the Loop; our train station transfers page explains how we time those. If you are exhibiting or attending a show at McCormick Place, the trip is a few miles longer and the hall entrance matters. The RSNA annual meeting runs November 29 to December 3, 2026 (rsna.org), and Wisconsin delegations often book one Sprinter for the whole team. See our conference transportation page for multi-day plans.
Day trips, business days and round trips
A shopping day on the Magnificent Mile, a client visit with a same-evening return or a family museum day is better booked with the chauffeur staying with you. In that case, ask the desk to price the day as a whole rather than as two separate legs, or book a one-way transfer each way and an hourly chauffeur in Chicago for the hours in between.
For business travel, a corporate account puts every ride on one monthly invoice, keeps traveller profiles on file and covers both cities and every other Elly8.net city. Our corporate car service page explains how assistants book multi-stop days, and NDAs are available on request. For weddings that span both cities, our guide to how many cars a Chicago wedding needs covers guest shuttles, and groups planning a night out on arrival can read about Chicago limo bus sizes and prices.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a car service from Milwaukee to Chicago?
The price depends on your exact addresses and the vehicle, so the web booker quotes it for you: a fixed, all-in fare per vehicle that includes the chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity, with tolls and parking billed at cost. For reference, O'Hare to the Loop alone is US$215 in a business sedan, and Chicago hourly service starts at US$100 an hour.
How long is the drive from Milwaukee to Chicago?
About 92 mi (149 km) from downtown Milwaukee to the Loop, roughly 1 hour 55 minutes on a clear road. O'Hare is about 85 mi (137 km), roughly 2 hours. Weekday afternoons, Friday traffic and big Chicago events add time, and the desk builds a buffer into the pickup time.
How much is an Uber from Milwaukee to Chicago?
Rideshare apps do not publish a fixed fare for this route. The app sets the price when you request the ride, and it changes with demand, time of day and surge. With Elly8.net you see a fixed price before you travel, and it does not change if traffic is heavy or demand spikes.
Is the train faster than a car from Milwaukee to Chicago?
Station to station, the Hiawatha takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, which is quicker than a car at rush hour. Door to door, it depends on where you start and finish. For one traveller downtown to downtown, the train is excellent value; for groups, luggage, O'Hare flights or suburban addresses, a car is usually simpler.
Can you take a group from Milwaukee to O'Hare?
Yes. An Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, and a business SUV up to 6 passengers and 6 bags. Add every flight number for the group and the desk times the pickup to the earliest check-in. One vehicle for the whole group is usually cheaper and calmer than several separate rides.
