Palm Springs International is a lovely airport to land at, but it does not have every route. Travellers heading to Asia, Europe or a nonstop to the other coast often fly from LAX instead, and that means a long drive across the desert and through the Inland Empire. From downtown Palm Springs to LAX is about 125 mi (200 km), and routing puts it at around two and a half hours on a clear road. The resorts further down the valley add another 15 to 20 mi.
Elly8.net books a car service from Palm Springs to LAX at a fixed, all-in price. You enter your exact Coachella Valley address in the web booker, see a fixed fare for each vehicle, and that fare covers the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes and standard gratuity, however the I-10 behaves on the day. The chauffeur collects you at your house or resort and drops you on the LAX departures level; on the way back, the same booking runs in reverse with flight tracking and a name board inside arrivals.
How long is the drive from Palm Springs to LAX?
Downtown Palm Springs to LAX is about 125 mi (200 km), around two and a half hours on a clear road. From Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert or Indian Wells, allow closer to two hours forty-five minutes. Weekend afternoons, holiday Sundays and festival weekends add a lot, so build in margin and let the fixed price absorb the traffic.
The trip is long enough that the starting point matters. These routing estimates assume a clear road; plan for longer.
| Pickup area | Distance to LAX | Clear-road drive | Notes |

The route: west on the I-10 into Los Angeles
The drive is mostly one road. From the valley, the chauffeur heads west on the I-10 through the San Gorgonio Pass, past Banning and Beaumont, and into the Inland Empire. From there, the route into LAX depends on the hour: the chauffeur chooses the freeways on the day, aiming to avoid the worst of the Los Angeles traffic on the final stretch to the airport. Caltrans QuickMap shows live closures and incidents if you want to watch the road before you leave.
It is a long sit, so the vehicle matters more than on a city transfer. A First Class Sedan is quieter and roomier for two and a half hours; an SUV gives you space for golf bags and the larger suitcases that winter visitors tend to bring. There is room to work, and if you need quiet for calls, tell the desk.
When to leave Palm Springs for an LAX flight
Set the pickup by working back from the flight:
- Your airline's check-in and bag-drop deadline. Plan to be at the terminal comfortably before it. For international departures from Tom Bradley, allow more.
- The drive. Two and a half hours from downtown Palm Springs, closer to two forty-five from the lower valley, plus a buffer for the day and hour.
- The LAX terminal loop. Construction in the Central Terminal Area changes lanes and kerbs; Los Angeles World Airports posts current closures on its ground transportation page.
- The season. In winter and spring the valley is busy, and on event weekends local roads fill before you even reach the freeway.
The desk suggests a pickup time when you book. Because the price is fixed and all-in, a generous buffer costs nothing extra; the only thing it changes is how relaxed you are at the terminal.
Festival, tennis and design season
The Coachella Valley has a dense spring calendar, and the weekends that fill the valley also fill the road to LAX on the days around them:
- Modernism Week, February 11 to 21, 2027, according to Modernism Week.
- BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, February 28 to March 14, 2027, according to the tournament.
- Coachella, over two weekends, April 9 to 11 and April 16 to 18, 2027, according to Coachella.
- Stagecoach, the country music festival, which usually follows Coachella in April.
If you are flying out of LAX on a Monday after a festival weekend, book the car early and leave earlier than you think. Hotels and rentals across the valley check out at the same time on those mornings, and many of those visitors head west toward Los Angeles on the same roads. A mid-morning pickup that would be easy in October can be slow in April. If your flight allows it, a late-morning or early-afternoon departure from the valley usually sits better than leaving with the crowd, and the desk can suggest a time once it knows your flight. Groups heading to the festivals can see our concert and festival transportation page for how we plan drop-offs and late pickups; that is a different job from the airport run, and it is booked separately.
What a Palm Springs to LAX car service costs
Palm Springs to LAX is priced in the Elly8.net web booker for your exact pickup, because the valley stretches from Palm Springs to La Quinta and the distance varies by more than 20 mi. The booker shows a fixed, all-in fare for every vehicle class before you pay. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost; nothing else is added.
For scale, the published LAX to downtown Santa Barbara fare, a 96 mi (155 km) run, starts at US$550 in a Business Sedan, and the Los Angeles price list starts at US$170 for LAX to Beverly Hills. Palm Springs is a longer drive than either, so use the booker for the real number. Prices are per vehicle, not per person, so four golfers in an SUV share one fare.
Vehicle capacity is the deciding factor:
- Business Sedan or First Class Sedan: up to 3 passengers and 2 bags.
- Business SUV or First Class SUV: up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, the usual choice with golf bags or tennis kit.
- Executive Sprinter: up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, for groups and wedding parties.
Tell us about golf bags, skis or a wheelchair when you book; a larger vehicle is often the right call. The fleet page shows each class.
PSP or LAX: choosing the airport
Before booking a long drive, check what Palm Springs International can do for you. For a domestic trip, flying from PSP usually wins on door-to-door time: the Elly8.net transfer from PSP to downtown Palm Springs is listed from US$125 on the Palm Springs car service page. PSP notes that rideshare pickups use a designated area at the south end of the terminal in the commercial lane, and that taxis may offer a US$25 flat fare for eligible trips from the airport, including airport fees. For one person going downtown, that is hard to beat.
LAX wins when it gives you a nonstop or international flight that PSP does not, when fares differ a lot for a family, or when you are combining the desert with a few days in Los Angeles.
Other ways to get from Palm Springs to LAX
| Option | Price | Time and reliability | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amtrak Thruway bus from PSP to Fullerton, then train and FlyAway | Bus, train and FlyAway fares (FlyAway US$12.75) | Several legs and transfers; timetable-driven | Solo budget travellers with time |
| Drive yourself and park at LAX | Fuel plus LAX parking | Long drive each way, plus the parking shuttle | Short trips with your own car |
| Uber or Lyft | Dynamic, not published | Long-distance requests may take time to match | Flexible solo trips off-peak |
| Elly8.net private car | Fixed quote from the web booker | Door to terminal, one vehicle, no transfers | Couples with bags, families, golfers, early flights |
PSP says Amtrak Thruway buses leave from the north end of its terminal for Fullerton, connecting with Pacific Surfliner trains; from Los Angeles Union Station, the FlyAway bus is US$12.75 one-way. It is an inexpensive chain, but it is a chain, and every link has its own timetable. Driving yourself is simple for a long weekend; for a longer trip, parking and a five-hour round trip by yourself change the picture, which is why chauffeur vs renting a car is worth a read.
Coming back: LAX to the desert
After a long flight, a two-and-a-half-hour drive is easier when someone else does it. Book an LAX airport transfer with your flight number: the chauffeur tracks the landing, waits inside arrivals with a name board and walks you to the car, so you skip the LAX-it shuttle that taxis and standard app rides use. Complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing. Our guide to LAX meet and greet covers the meeting step by step.
Once you are in the valley, the Palm Springs price list includes an 8-hour Joshua Tree National Park day trip from US$740 in a Business Sedan, and hourly cars from US$100 an hour with a 3-hour minimum. Visit Greater Palm Springs, the official visitor site, is the place to plan the rest.

Rides in Palm Springs are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Partner vehicles are four model years old or newer. Long one-way drives like this one are covered on our city to city car service page. If your trip also takes in the coast, our post on Santa Barbara to LAX by private car covers the other long LAX run, and private car service to LAX covers departures from Los Angeles itself. Frequently asked questions
How much is a car service from Palm Springs to LAX?
It is priced in the web booker for your exact Coachella Valley address, with a fixed, all-in fare for each vehicle before you pay. The fare includes chauffeur, vehicle, taxes and standard gratuity; tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. Prices are per vehicle, not per person.
How long does it take to drive from Palm Springs to LAX?
About two and a half hours on a clear road from downtown Palm Springs, roughly 125 mi (200 km). From Palm Desert or Indian Wells, allow closer to two hours forty-five minutes. Weekend afternoons, holiday Sundays and festival weekends can add a great deal.
Can you fit golf bags?
Yes. Tell us how many golf bags you have when you book. A Business SUV takes up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, and for a foursome with clubs and suitcases, an SUV or an Executive Sprinter is the comfortable choice.
Is it worth flying from PSP instead?
For many domestic trips, yes. PSP is close to town, and the Elly8.net transfer to downtown Palm Springs starts at US$125. LAX makes sense for nonstops PSP does not offer, international flights or much lower fares for a family.
What happens if my LAX flight home is delayed?
Airport pickups are flight-tracked, and complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing. The chauffeur adjusts to the actual arrival time, so a delay does not change the fixed price within the included time. If extra waiting would apply, the desk tells you first.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup; 10% at 72 hours or less; 50% at 48 hours or less; 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show. Refunds go to the original card.
