A car service from SFO to San Francisco is a pre-booked chauffeur who tracks your flight, meets you inside the terminal and drives you to your hotel or address at a fixed price. With Elly8.net, SFO to Union Square costs from US$180 in a Business Sedan to US$470 in an Executive Sprinter, including the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet.
The drive itself is short, about 15 miles (24 km). What makes an SFO arrival easy or tiring is everything around it: finding the right meeting point after a long flight, the walk to the garage for an app ride, and a fare that climbs with every slow minute on US-101. This guide walks through the arrival from the gate to the hotel door, and sets the flat rate against the meter with real numbers.
How long is the drive from SFO to downtown San Francisco?
SFO to Union Square is about 15 miles (24 km), roughly 24 minutes on a clear road. At the weekday evening peak, or when US-101 northbound backs up toward the city, it can take 45 minutes or more. An Elly8.net car costs the same either way: from US$180 in a Business Sedan, fixed and all-in.
Rides in San Francisco are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.

Step by step: landing to the hotel door
1. Before you fly
Book with your flight number. The desk uses it to track the flight, so an early or late landing is handled automatically and complimentary waiting starts from the tracked landing rather than the scheduled time. Add the number of passengers and bags, and any child seats you need; child seats are available on request.
2. Landing and the meeting point
SFO does not allow arriving passengers to be met at the gate, and vehicles may not wait at the curb. That is why a pre-booked chauffeur meets you inside, with a name board, at one of the airport's suggested meeting points:
| Where you land | SFO's suggested meeting point |
|---|---|
| Terminal 1, B gates | Seating areas near the exits of the B gates |
| Terminal 1, C gates | Signed Meeting Point, Departures/Ticketing level, near the exits |
| Terminal 2, D gates | Signed Meeting Point, Departures/Ticketing level, near the exits |
| Terminal 3, E and F gates | Signed Meeting Point, Arrivals/Baggage Claim level, between carousels 3 and 4 |
| International Terminal | US Customs and Immigration exit, Arrivals level lobby, signed Meeting Point |
The chauffeur confirms the exact point for your terminal by message once you land. If you are checking bags, the usual plan in the domestic terminals is to meet near your carousel; on international arrivals, the meeting point is the Customs exit, so there is nothing to find.
3. Bags and the walk to the car
Once your bags are collected, the chauffeur walks you to the vehicle. Because cars cannot wait at the SFO curb, the vehicle is held nearby and brought to you, or you walk together to where it is parked. Either way you are not searching a garage level for a matching license plate. Our airport meet and greet page explains the service across the network.
4. The drive
From SFO, chauffeurs usually take US-101 north into the city, or I-280 when it is moving better, and enter downtown by the most direct exit for your hotel. The chauffeur watches live traffic, so the route can change on the day; the price does not.
5. The hotel door
Hotel driveways around Union Square are tight and several streets are one-way. The chauffeur pulls in at the right entrance and hands your bags to the bell desk or brings them to the door.
The fixed fare against the taxi meter
San Francisco taxis run on a regulated meter, which makes the comparison easy to check. The SFMTA fare schedule sets US$4.15 for the first fifth of a mile, US$0.65 for each additional fifth of a mile and US$0.65 for each minute of waiting or traffic delay, plus a US$6 SFO pick-up fee on rides leaving the airport.
Worked out for SFO to Union Square:
| Taxi fare line | Clear road | Heavy traffic |
|---|---|---|
| Distance, 15 miles (first fifth plus 74 more) | about US$52 | about US$52 |
| Traffic delay minutes at US$0.65 | small | US$13 for 20 slow minutes |
| SFO pick-up fee | US$6 | US$6 |
| Subtotal before tip | about US$58 | about US$71 |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan, all-in with gratuity | US$180 | US$180 |
The taxi is clearly cheaper for one or two people with modest luggage, and it is worth saying plainly. SFO's taxi page puts taxi zones at the roadway center islands on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim level of every terminal, with coordinators on duty from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. The SFMTA also notes there is no luggage surcharge, and that passengers pay any bridge tolls.
The fixed fare earns its price in other ways: a guaranteed vehicle when you land at midnight, a chauffeur inside the terminal instead of a taxi line, an SUV or Sprinter when there are four or more of you with checked bags, and a number agreed before you travel for an expense report. Our chauffeur vs taxi page goes further.
BART and app rides from SFO
BART is the cheapest way into the city. BART's SFO station is on the Departures/Ticketing level of the International Terminal, reached free by AirTrain from the domestic terminals, and the adult fare to Powell Street or Montgomery Street is US$11.80. For a solo traveler with a carry-on staying near Market Street, it is good value.
App rides pick up away from the terminal doors. On SFO's ride-app page, standard Lyft and Uber pickups for the domestic terminals are on Level 5 of the Domestic Garage, and at the International Terminal on the Departures/Ticketing level center island, zones 12 to 17. Prices follow demand, so a Friday-evening landing during a Moscone conference can cost far more than a quiet Tuesday. See Uber Black vs a pre-booked chauffeur for the premium tiers.
| Option, SFO to Union Square | Price | Pickup point | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| BART | US$11.80 | International Terminal station, via AirTrain | One traveler, light bag |
| Taxi | about US$58 to US$71 before tip | Arrivals level center islands | One or two, short notice |
| App ride | Dynamic; surge at peaks | Domestic Garage Level 5, or International zones 12-17 | Off-peak, flexible |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan | US$180 fixed, all-in | Inside the terminal, name board | Late arrivals, meetings |
| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | US$470 fixed, all-in | Inside the terminal, name board | Groups of up to 12 with bags |
Beyond Union Square
The published fare is set to Union Square. Every other address in the city, in SoMa near Moscone, the Financial District, Nob Hill, the Marina, Pacific Heights or the Mission, is quoted in the web booker at a fixed price before you pay. The same applies to Oakland and Berkeley hotels, though if you are staying in the East Bay, landing at OAK is often shorter; OAK to Union Square is listed from US$215. For the South Bay, our San Jose and Silicon Valley car service page has SJC fares, and for wine country the Napa Valley page lists SFO to downtown Napa from US$390.
If you will need the car again on the way out, book the SFO round trip, from US$345 in a Business Sedan; our car service to SFO guide covers departure timing. Traveling with a lot of luggage or a group? The SFO limo guide sizes each vehicle by bags.
Late-night and early-morning arrivals
The arrival hours when a pre-booked car makes the most difference are the edges of the day. SFO's taxi coordinators and app-ride coordinators are on duty from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m., according to the airport; outside those hours there are no uniformed coordinators at the zones, and app availability is less predictable. A red-eye landing at 5:30 a.m. or a delayed flight arriving at 1 a.m. is exactly when a chauffeur waiting inside, with a fixed fare, earns its price.
The other benefit at those hours is the drive. A clear road at night means the 24-minute run to Union Square is realistic, and the chauffeur goes straight to the hotel entrance, which matters when you arrive before check-in and want to leave bags with the bell desk.
Landing for a conference, a game or a show
If you are flying in for a Moscone conference, an event at Chase Center in Mission Bay or a game at Oracle Park, tell the desk where you are going after the airport. The chauffeur can drop you at the venue first and take your bags on to the hotel, or wait while you check in. During Microsoft Ignite, November 17-20, 2026, and RSAC, April 5-8, 2027, SoMa streets around Moscone are slow and hotel driveways queue, so allow extra time and book the departure car at the same time. Our conference and trade show transportation page covers team arrivals.
Arriving with children
Families landing after a long flight have the most to gain from a car waiting inside. Child seats are available on request; give each child's age and weight when you book, and the seats are installed before the chauffeur reaches the airport. A Business SUV, US$235 to Union Square, takes up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, which leaves room for a stroller. On the train, the same family would be carrying cases through AirTrain, BART and the walk from Powell Street.

Where will my driver meet me at SFO?
Inside the terminal with a name board, at SFO's suggested meeting point for your terminal: the US Customs exit in the International Terminal, between carousels 3 and 4 in Terminal 3, or the signed Meeting Points in Terminals 1 and 2. The chauffeur confirms the exact spot by message after you land.
Is a flat rate better than the taxi meter from SFO?
For one or two travelers with light bags, the taxi is cheaper: about US$58 before tip on a clear road and around US$71 in heavy traffic. A flat-rate car is better value for groups, late arrivals, child seats or business travelers who need a known price and a guaranteed pickup.

Can the car go somewhere other than Union Square?
Yes. Enter any address in the web booker and it returns a fixed, all-in fare before you pay. That includes SoMa, the Financial District, Nob Hill, the Marina, the Mission, East Bay hotels, Silicon Valley offices and wine country.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup. At 72 hours or less, 10% applies; at 48 hours or less, 50%; and at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, 100%. Refunds go to the original card. A flight change is usually just a message to the desk.
