If you search for an Ottawa airport shuttle, you will find that the airport authority's ground transportation list does not include a scheduled shared shuttle van to downtown hotels. What it lists instead are public transit, hotel shuttles, charter buses, Park'N Fly, taxis, rideshare and pre-arranged services. For most visitors, the O-Train and the route 105 bus do the job a shuttle would do elsewhere, and they do it for the price of a transit fare.
So the real question is which of those shared options suits your arrival, and when a private car, or a private Sprinter acting as your own shuttle, is worth the extra cost. This guide from the Elly8.net desk compares them on the three things that matter after a flight: cost, waiting and comfort.
Is there a shuttle from Ottawa airport to downtown?
Not a shared door-to-door van. The Ottawa International Airport Authority lists OC Transpo's O-Train Line 4 (6:00 a.m. to midnight) and bus route 105 (24 hours, every 30 minutes), plus hotel shuttles at pillars 13 to 15 and charter buses at pillars 15 and 16. A private Elly8.net car to Parliament Hill starts at US$105 per vehicle.
The airport's ground transportation page sets out where each one loads. The rule of thumb: trains and city buses on Level 3, cars and coaches on Level 1.
Option 1: O-Train Line 4, the airport rail link
The Airport station connects to Level 3 of the terminal at the north end. Line 4 runs from 6:00 a.m. to midnight and links the airport to South Keys station, where you change for the rest of the network. Fares are paid at the gates by tapping a ticket, a Presto card, a debit card or a mobile device.
- Cost: C$4.10 adult by Presto card or tap, C$4.15 cash, with a 90-minute transfer window, a C$12.25 daily cap, and free travel for children 10 and under, per OC Transpo fares.
- Wait: the train's frequency, then a change at South Keys, then possibly another change depending on your hotel.
- Comfort: fine with a carry-on; harder with two large cases, a stroller or a group.
Option 2: OC Transpo route 105
Route 105 runs 24 hours a day, every 30 minutes, picking up along the Departures roadway on Level 3 at the south end. By day it runs between Uplands Drive, serving the airport, and St-Laurent station; at night, north of Hurdman station, it runs to and from Rideau station.
- Cost: the same transit fare, paid on board in cash or by tapping a Presto card, credit card, debit card or phone.
- Wait: up to 30 minutes, plus the ride.
- Comfort: the overnight lifeline when nothing else runs, best for light travellers.
Option 3: hotel shuttles
Some hotels run their own shuttle and pick up between pillars 13 and 15 on Level 1. These are usually airport-area properties rather than downtown hotels, so check with your hotel before you fly: whether it runs one, the hours, and whether you need to call on arrival. When a shuttle exists, it is often the best value of all for a one-night airport stay before an early flight. If you are staying downtown, do not assume a shuttle comes with the room; ask the hotel before you book your ground transport.
Option 4: charter buses and Park'N Fly
Charter buses load at pillars 15 and 16, the same spot as Park'N Fly. A charter coach makes sense for large organised groups: a sports team, a school trip or a conference block arriving together. It is not a walk-up service; it is arranged in advance by the group.
Option 5: a private car, or your own private shuttle
A private car is the door-to-door version. The chauffeur tracks your flight, waits inside arrivals with a name board and takes you straight to your address. For groups, an Executive Sprinter seating up to 12 with luggage is effectively a private shuttle that leaves when you land, not on a timetable.
- Cost: per vehicle, fixed and all-in. YOW to Parliament Hill is US$105 in a business sedan, US$140 in a business SUV and US$275 in an Executive Sprinter, the same price in either direction.
- Wait: none at the airport; complimentary waiting after a tracked landing is on our side.
- Comfort: direct, with room for cases, child seats on request and no connections.
Cost, wait and comfort side by side

| O-Train Line 4 | C$4.10 tap / C$4.15 cash per adult; under 11 free | Train frequency plus a change at South Keys | No | Carry-on friendly |
| Route 105 bus | Same fare | Up to 30 minutes, 24 hours | No | Light luggage |
| Hotel shuttle | Set by the hotel | Hotel schedule | To that hotel only | Varies |
| Charter coach | Arranged by the group | Pre-arranged | To the group's venue | Large groups |
| Taxi | Meter plus tip, in C$ | The queue at the centre door | Yes | Up to a few bags; bring a child seat |
| Elly8.net business sedan | US$105 per vehicle | None | Yes | Up to 3 people, 2 bags |

| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | US$275 per vehicle | None | Yes | Up to 12 people, 12 bags |
When the shared option is the right choice
- One traveller, light bag, daytime. The O-Train is excellent value, especially if your hotel is near a station.
- Arriving after midnight on a budget. Route 105 runs all night, every 30 minutes.
- An airport hotel with its own shuttle. Use it.
- A big organised group with a coach already booked. Charter buses exist for exactly that.
When a private car or Sprinter wins
Families. Two adults, two children and four cases on a train with a change at South Keys is a hard first hour in a new city. A Business SUV at US$140 carries everyone, with child seats fitted on request.
Small groups of 7 to 12. Too many for one SUV, too few for a coach. An Executive Sprinter at US$275 is the private shuttle in between. As arithmetic only, ten people sharing it pay US$27.50 each, door to door, with gratuity included.
Late, delayed or international arrivals. Customs and baggage take time, and late flights land into thinner transit. The chauffeur waits for the actual landing, not the timetable.
Conferences at Rogers Centre Ottawa. Organisers often need speakers met individually and a loop for attendees. An hourly Sprinter, US$220 an hour with a 3-hour minimum, can run repeated airport and hotel loops on the first morning. See conference transportation and Rogers Centre Ottawa for venue details.
Weddings and family reunions. Guests landing across an afternoon are easier on a booked Sprinter than on a mix of trains and taxis; see group transportation and Sprinter van with driver.
Onward trips. Heading straight to Mont-Tremblant, Kingston or Montreal from YOW? No shuttle does that from the curb; a private car priced in the web booker does.
The first hour, two ways
It helps to picture the same arrival both ways: a family of four landing at YOW at 9:40 p.m. on a Friday in February, staying at a hotel in the ByWard Market.
By train. Bags off the belt, up to Level 3, tickets at the machine outside the station, Line 4 to South Keys, a change of train, then a further connection or a walk to the hotel with cases and two tired children. The fares are low, children 10 and under ride free, and it works. It also means several platforms, a transfer in the cold and some careful timing with the luggage.
By private car. The chauffeur has tracked the flight since it left. A name board is waiting inside arrivals; the cases go straight into a Business SUV at the pre-arranged curb, the child seat is already fitted, and the drive to the Market takes about 20 minutes on a clear evening road. The price, US$140, was fixed when the trip was booked.
Neither is wrong. The train saves money; the car saves the first hour. The right answer depends on what that hour is worth to you.
Busy weekends and winter
Some dates change the comparison. During Winterlude, from late January to mid-February, Ottawa Tourism lists main sites on both sides of the river, including the Crystal Garden in Confederation Park and the Snowflake Kingdom in Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau; see Ottawa Tourism's Winterlude guide. Families arriving for it bring more bags and more layers. On Canada Day, much of the core closes to cars, so a private car drops you at the edge of the closure rather than the door, so plan to walk the last few blocks with light bags or leave luggage at the hotel first. Our desk plans those drop-offs before you land.
Shuttle vs private car for departures
Departures reverse the logic. The train and bus drop you on Level 3 near check-in, which is convenient if you are already near a station. A private car picks you up at your door at the exact time you choose and is the same fixed price as the arrival, US$105 in a business sedan from Parliament Hill and the core. For early-morning flights, before Line 4 starts at 6:00 a.m., the choice is between route 105, a taxi, an app ride or a booked car.
For the taxi side of the comparison, see our Ottawa airport taxi guide. For a worked estimate of metered fares, read the Ottawa taxi rates calculator. Our general guide to chauffeur vs airport shuttle covers the same trade-off in other cities.

Frequently asked questions
Does Ottawa airport have a shuttle to downtown hotels?
The airport authority's list does not include a shared door-to-door shuttle to downtown. It lists O-Train Line 4 and route 105 for transit, hotel shuttles for hotels that run them, charter buses for groups, taxis, rideshare and pre-arranged cars. Check with your hotel whether it operates a shuttle.
How much is the O-Train from Ottawa airport?
An adult fare is C$4.10 with a Presto card or a tap of a bank card or phone, or C$4.15 in cash, with a 90-minute transfer window. Children 10 and under ride free, and daily fares cap at C$12.25. Line 4 runs from 6:00 a.m. to midnight and connects to South Keys.
What is the cheapest way from YOW to downtown late at night?
Route 105, which the airport says runs 24 hours a day, every 30 minutes, from the Departures roadway on Level 3. It is the lowest-cost option overnight. A taxi or a booked car is faster and door to door; an Elly8.net business sedan to Parliament Hill is US$105, fixed.
Can a Sprinter act as a private shuttle for our group?
Yes. An Executive Sprinter seats up to 12 with luggage. From YOW to Parliament Hill it is US$275 for the vehicle, or US$220 an hour with a 3-hour minimum if you want it to run several loops for a conference or wedding. The price is per vehicle, not per person.
What is the cancellation policy for an airport booking?
Free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show. Refunds go to the original card.
