A Mississauga taxi runs on a meter set by the City: C$4.25 to start and C$0.25 for every 141 metres, which works out to roughly C$1.77 a kilometre before waiting time. A MiWay bus costs C$3.50 with PRESTO. Uber and Lyft show a price in the app that moves with demand. A pre-booked Elly8.net car is fixed per vehicle before you travel, from US$105 for Toronto Pearson to Square One and from US$110 an hour for a chauffeur kept on call.
For a short hop across the city, the taxi, the app or the bus is usually the better buy, and we say so below. A booked car earns its fare on late airport runs, for groups with luggage, on event nights when the apps surge, and on working days with several stops. Toronto and the GTA run on the Elly8 fleet and chauffeurs, so Mississauga is served by the same desk and vehicles as Toronto.
How much does a taxi cost in Mississauga?
A Mississauga taxi charges the City's meter rate: C$4.25 for the first 141 metres and C$0.25 for each further 141 metres, plus C$0.25 for every 30 seconds of waiting. By our arithmetic, a 10 km trip with no waiting comes to about C$22 before any fuel surcharge or tip.
Those numbers come from Schedule 9 of the City's Public Vehicle Licensing By-law 0420-2004, which governs taxis, limousines and chauffeured services operating in Mississauga and at the airport. The schedule also sets a few extras worth knowing before you get in:
- More than four passengers: C$1.50 for each passenger over four.
- Fuel surcharge: a sliding per-trip charge tied to the price of fuel, from C$0.25 when fuel is between C$1.25 and C$1.50 a litre, up to C$2.00 when it is over C$3.00.
- Oversized items: anything over 3 cubic feet or 27 kg that the fare does not cover is agreed with the driver before the trip starts.
- Cancellation: C$2.00 if the driver has already reached your pickup when you cancel through the dispatcher.
Waiting time is the part people underestimate. At C$0.25 per 30 seconds, ten minutes crawling through the Hurontario and Highway 403 interchange adds about C$5 to the meter. On a dry Sunday morning that never happens; on a weekday at 5 p.m. it often does.
See Mississauga prices and reserve
| Trip length (meter only) | Our arithmetic from the City tariff | What can push it up |
|---|---|---|
| 5 km, no waiting | about C$13 | rush-hour crawling, fuel surcharge |
| 10 km, no waiting | about C$22 | same, plus a fifth passenger at C$1.50 |
| 15 km, no waiting | about C$31 | same |
| 15 km with 10 minutes of slow traffic | about C$36 | snow, an event letting out |
Two more rules shape longer trips. When a trip starts in Mississauga and ends outside the city, the by-law allows the driver and passenger to agree a flat rate before setting off. Trips from Mississauga to Pearson in a taxi with an airport permit are priced on the airport authority's taxi tariff, not the city meter; we cover that run in detail in Mississauga airport taxi or rideshare.
Limousines are treated differently. Under the same by-law a Mississauga limousine may not carry a taxi meter at all, and its drivers charge from a schedule of hourly rates filed with the City's licensing section. That is why limousine and chauffeur prices are quoted per trip or per hour rather than per kilometre.
How Uber and Lyft pricing works in Mississauga
Rideshare fares are not published as a rate card. The app shows you a price before you confirm, and that price follows demand: it rises in weekday rush hours around the 401, 403 and 410, in snow, on Friday and Saturday nights, and in the half-hour after a concert or game lets out. At a quiet hour, an app ride across Mississauga is often close to, or below, the taxi meter. At a busy one it can be well above it.
The other cost is time. You wait for a match, and after a big event the wait can be longer than the ride. If you need a child seat, you are relying on what the car happens to have or carrying your own, which matters for families; Transport Canada's child car seat guidance explains which seat each age and weight needs.
MiWay and GO: the cheapest way across the city
For one person with light luggage, transit wins on price every time. According to MiWay fare prices, an adult fare is C$3.50 with a PRESTO card and C$4.50 in exact cash or by tapping a debit or credit card. MiWay travel is free when you connect with GO Transit using PRESTO, and after 11 paid PRESTO rides in a week, the rest of that week is free.
That makes MiWay the honest answer for a daily commute from Meadowvale or Streetsville to the City Centre, and a GO train the honest answer for a solo trip into downtown Toronto at rush hour. Where transit struggles is with luggage, late nights, several stops, or a group that wants to arrive together.
What a booked car costs in Mississauga
Every Elly8.net price is fixed and all-in per vehicle: chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. Highway 407 ETR, which crosses north Mississauga, is a toll road; tell us if you would rather avoid it. The full grid is in the Mississauga fares panel on our Mississauga car service page.
- Pearson to Square One and the City Centre: from US$105 in a business sedan and US$140 in a business SUV, up to US$275 in an Executive Sprinter, the same fare in either direction.
- By the hour: from US$110 an hour in a business sedan to US$220 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. See hourly chauffeur service.
- Evening out and event night: from US$550 in a business sedan and US$700 in a business SUV to US$1,100 in an Executive Sprinter, covering the drive, the wait and the ride home.
- Full-day chauffeur from US$810, and a corporate roadshow day from US$990.
Capacity matters when you compare. On our fleet page, a business sedan seats three with two bags, a business SUV seats six with six bags, and an Executive Sprinter seats twelve with twelve bags. Four friends do not fit in a sedan, so their comparison is a business SUV, or two taxis.
Eight Mississauga trips, eight verdicts
1. Square One to Port Credit for dinner, two people. A short hop of a few kilometres with no luggage. Verdict: taxi or app. The meter for a trip this size stays modest, and there is nothing a chauffeur adds.
2. Daily commute from Meadowvale to the City Centre. Verdict: MiWay. At C$3.50 a ride with PRESTO, and free after 11 paid rides in a week, nothing else is close.
3. A family of four landing at Pearson at 11:40 p.m., five bags and a toddler. Verdict: a booked car. A business SUV to Square One is US$140 for the vehicle, the chauffeur is inside arrivals with a name board, the flight is tracked, and a child seat is fitted before you reach the curb when you request it. The details of that run are in our Pearson guide for Mississauga.
4. A concert at the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre, a group of six. The City describes the main arena at 5500 Rose Cherry Place as a 5,100-seat venue that holds 3,000 to 6,000 for concerts, with free parking for about 1,900 vehicles. Getting there is easy; getting six people home together when the lot empties is not. Verdict: two taxis if you live close by; a business SUV on the evening package if you want one car waiting. See concert transportation.
5. A Leafs or Raptors game downtown, from Square One. Square One to downtown Toronto is about 28 km (17 mi), roughly 28 minutes on a clear road. Verdict: GO Transit for one or two people, a booked car for a group. The train avoids downtown parking, and MiWay connects free with a GO trip on PRESTO. For four to six fans, the evening out package in a business SUV is one fixed price for the drive, the wait and the drive home; see sports event transportation and our Toronto car service page.
6. A visiting executive: airport hotel, meetings in Meadowvale and Oakville, evening flight. Verdict: a booked car. Three taxis and three waits cost time that matters more than the fare. A corporate roadshow day from US$990, or hourly service for shorter days, keeps one chauffeur with the traveller. Regular bookers can open a corporate account with monthly invoicing; see corporate car service.
7. A Saturday at Square One with an older parent and heavy shopping. Verdict: a taxi for a single ride home; an hourly car if the day has several stops. Three hours of hourly service from US$110 an hour works when the day is lunch, the mall and a visit across town.
8. Four friends out in Toronto, back to Mississauga after midnight. Verdict: a booked car. Late-night app prices on a Saturday are unpredictable and four people need an SUV-sized car. The evening out package in a business SUV, from US$700, is known before the night begins. The chauffeur follows Ontario's rules on alcohol in vehicles, so the celebration stays at the venue.
Reading the numbers fairly
Three things make these comparisons easy to get wrong.
Currency. Taxi and transit fares here are in Canadian dollars, as the City and MiWay publish them. Elly8.net prices are in US dollars. Check your card's exchange rate before comparing a meter estimate with a fixed fare.
Per vehicle, not per person. Every Elly8.net price is for the whole vehicle. Dividing it by the number of travellers is arithmetic for comparison only: a US$140 business SUV from Pearson to Square One shared by five people works out to US$28 each, but the booking is one price for one vehicle.
What is included. A meter fare does not include a tip, and an app fare may not include the wait. Our fixed fares include the standard gratuity and the airport meet and greet; tolls, parking and extra waiting are the only things added, at cost. More on the general case is in chauffeur vs taxi and chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft.
Licensing, safety and the vehicle you get
Taxis, limousines and chauffeured services in Mississauga are licensed by the City under the same by-law, which also licenses accessible taxicabs. Elly8.net cars in Toronto and the GTA are the Elly8 fleet, driven by Elly8 chauffeurs, and dispatched by the same 24/7 desk that takes your booking. Child seats are available on request; give us each child's age and weight and the seats are fitted before pickup.
If you are heading west, our Hamilton taxi vs Uber vs private car guide runs the same exercise with Hamilton's own meter, and the Hamilton car service page has fixed fares from both Hamilton airport and Pearson.

Frequently asked questions
What is the taxi meter rate in Mississauga?
The City's tariff is C$4.25 for the first 141 metres and C$0.25 for each additional 141 metres, with waiting at C$0.25 per 30 seconds. A passenger beyond the fourth adds C$1.50, and a fuel surcharge of up to C$2.00 a trip may apply depending on the price of fuel. Tips are not included.
Is Uber cheaper than a taxi in Mississauga?
Sometimes. At quiet hours an app ride across the city can cost about the same as the meter or less. In rush hour, in snow and after events, app prices rise with demand while the taxi meter stays at the City rate, though slow traffic adds waiting time to the meter. Check both before you ride.
When is a pre-booked car worth it in Mississauga?
When the ride is to or from Pearson at a late or busy hour, when there are four or more people with luggage, when you need a child seat fitted, on event nights, and on business days with several stops. Fares are fixed per vehicle, from US$105 from Pearson to Square One.
How much is the bus in Mississauga?
According to MiWay, an adult fare is C$3.50 with PRESTO and C$4.50 in exact cash or by tapping a debit or credit card. MiWay is free when you connect with GO Transit on PRESTO, and rides are free for the rest of the week after 11 paid PRESTO trips.
Can I hire a car by the hour in Mississauga?
Yes. Hourly service starts at US$110 an hour in a business sedan, US$140 in a business SUV and US$220 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. The chauffeur stays with you between stops, and the price is fixed and all-in apart from tolls and parking.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancelling is free more than 72 hours before pickup. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less it is 50%, and at 24 hours or less, or for a no-show, it is 100%. Refunds go back to the original card, the same way on every Elly8.net booking.
