At Milwaukee Mitchell International (MKE), Uber and Lyft riders follow the signs near Carousel 2, taxis load at a station outside Baggage Claim 3, and the GreenLine bus stops on the traffic island outside Exit 2. A pre-booked chauffeur is the only option that meets you inside arrivals with a name board and a price fixed before you fly: US$120 to downtown in an Elly8.net business sedan, all-in.
Which one you should book depends on how many people you are, how much luggage you carry and what time you land. MKE is a small, single-terminal airport about 8 mi (12 km) from downtown, so every option is quick on a clear road. The differences show up at midnight, in a snowstorm, on a game day and when there are four of you with skis or golf bags. Here is how each option works at the terminal, with the airport's own directions and a fair verdict.
Which should you book from Milwaukee airport: Uber, a taxi or a private car?
For one traveller with a carry-on in daytime, the GreenLine bus at US$2.75 or a rideshare is hard to beat. Book a private car for late flights, families with car seats, groups with bags and business arrivals: an Elly8.net business sedan to downtown is US$120 fixed, and a 12-seat Sprinter US$315.
Rideshare prices at MKE are set by the app when you request, so we cannot quote a figure, and anyone who does is guessing. What we can describe is how they behave: quick and reasonable on an ordinary afternoon, higher and slower when several flights land together, when the weather turns, or when an event in town pulls drivers downtown. Taxis are metered from the airport. A chauffeur booking is priced per vehicle in advance and does not change with demand.

Where each option picks up at MKE
The airport's ground transportation page sets out every pickup point. In short:
| Option | Where it picks up at MKE | What it costs | Booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uber and Lyft | follow the signs near Carousel 2 | set by the app at request, surge applies | request after landing |
| Taxi | taxi pickup station outside Baggage Claim 3, across the roadway, behind the rental car area | metered | walk up |
| MCTS GreenLine bus | traffic island outside Exit 2 on the baggage roadway | US$2.75 adult fare | none |
| MCTS Route 80 bus | ticketing curb near the American and United entrance | US$2.75 adult fare | none |
| Amtrak (Hiawatha, Borealis) | Milwaukee Airport Rail Station, free shuttle from Baggage Claim Door 5 | train fare | ticket in advance |
| Elly8.net chauffeur | inside arrivals with a name board | from US$120 to downtown, fixed | pre-booked with flight number |
The airport also lists door-to-door shuttle operators serving southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, and coach lines that stop outside Baggage Claim Exit 2 for Madison, the Fox Valley and other cities. Those suit specific long-distance trips; this guide focuses on the ride into Milwaukee.
Uber and Lyft at Mitchell: how it really works
After you collect your bags, follow the rideshare signs near Carousel 2 and request the ride. The car is assigned at that moment, so the wait depends on how many drivers are near the airport. On an ordinary weekday it is usually short. After a cluster of evening arrivals, or on a night when drivers are busy downtown, it can stretch, and the price shown in the app rises with demand.
Two things are worth knowing. First, rideshare vehicles are not guaranteed to have room for a family's luggage or a car seat; an XL tier helps, but you get whatever XL car is nearby. Second, the airport itself makes a pointed comparison on its ground transportation page: a five-day stay in its Saver Parking costs US$55, which it says may be cheaper than a rideshare round trip. That is a fair point for Milwaukee residents driving themselves, and worth checking if you live close by.
For visitors, rideshare is a sensible choice for a solo trip downtown at a normal hour. For anything with a fixed meeting time or more than two people, compare it with the alternatives below. Our chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft page covers the general differences.
Taxis from Baggage Claim 3
The taxi station is outside Baggage Claim 3. You cross the baggage claim roadway and follow the signs to the taxi lane behind the rental car area. Taxis are metered, so the final fare depends on the distance and the traffic, and you will not know the exact figure until you arrive.
A taxi makes sense for a walk-up arrival when you did not book anything, or when the app wait looks long. It is also simple: no account, no app, just the queue. The weak points are the same as anywhere: the meter runs in slow traffic, and vehicle size depends on what is next in the line. Our chauffeur vs taxi page sets out the trade-offs in more detail.
The bus and the train: the cheapest ways out of MKE
Milwaukee is one of the better-served small airports for public transport, and a fair comparison has to say so.
The MCTS GreenLine runs between Mitchell International and Bayshore, passing through downtown Milwaukee, Walker's Point, the east side and UWM along the way. Its airport stop is on the traffic island outside Exit 2, and a real-time bus arrival map sits near Carousel 1. Route 80 links the airport with downtown and the MATC campuses, stopping on the ticketing curb near the American and United entrance. The adult fare is US$2.75 a ride, with a daily cap of US$8.25 when you pay by app or card (MCTS fares).
MKE also has its own Amtrak station. The Hiawatha runs between downtown Milwaukee's Intermodal Station and Chicago Union Station, and the Borealis runs between Chicago and St. Paul, both calling at the Milwaukee Airport Rail Station. A free airport shuttle connects the terminal and the station: board any Saver Parking shuttle at Baggage Claim Door 5, every 5 to 10 minutes, 24 hours a day, and tell the driver you want the rail station. The station building is open from 5:45 am to 10 pm Monday to Saturday and from 7:15 am to 10 pm on Sunday, and the airport currently flags construction at the station, so check before you travel.
For one person with light luggage heading to a hotel on the GreenLine route in daylight, the bus is the right call. For a traveller going on to Chicago by train, the Hiawatha connection is useful. Neither is ideal with three suitcases, small children or a 1 am arrival.
A private car at MKE: what you get for the fixed price
When you book an airport transfer with Elly8.net, you add your flight number and the chauffeur tracks it. If a connection through a hub runs late, the pickup moves with the real landing time, and complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing. Your chauffeur waits inside arrivals with a name board, helps with bags at the carousel and walks you to the car parked outside. Child seats are available on request. The meet and greet page explains the routine.
The fixed fares from MKE to downtown Milwaukee, per vehicle and all-in:
| Vehicle | Passengers | One way, MKE to downtown | Round trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | up to 3 | US$120 | US$230 |
| Business SUV | up to 6 | US$160 | US$305 |
| First Class SUV | up to 6 | US$195 | US$375 |
| First Class Sedan | up to 3 | US$210 | US$400 |
| Executive Sprinter | up to 12 | US$315 | US$600 |
The price includes the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. The same fare applies in the other direction, from downtown to the airport. Rides in Milwaukee are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
Fair verdicts for common MKE arrivals
Solo, carry-on, mid-afternoon, hotel downtown. Take the GreenLine or a rideshare. A business sedan at US$120 is comfortable but not necessary.
Two colleagues landing at 11 pm for a morning meeting. Book the sedan. The car is waiting, the price is known, and nobody is standing at Carousel 2 watching an app search for a driver.
Family of four with two car seats and four bags. Book the business SUV at US$160. Seats are fitted before pickup, and there is room for the luggage. A taxi or app ride cannot promise either.
Group of nine arriving for a wedding. One Executive Sprinter at US$315 carries the group and its bags together. Split across app rides, that is three or four separate requests and waits. As arithmetic for comparison only, the Sprinter works out at US$35 a head, although it is always charged per vehicle.
Visiting executive for a full day of meetings. Book the airport pickup with an hourly chauffeur or a full-day booking, from US$700 in a business sedan, so the same car stays with the visitor all day. See corporate car service.
Departing MKE
Because the fare is the same in either direction, the US$120 sedan or US$315 Sprinter also covers the run from a downtown hotel or home address to departures. Early-morning flights are where a pre-booked car earns its price: a confirmed pickup at 4:30 am is a different proposition from opening an app and hoping. Give the desk your airline and departure time, and the chauffeur arrives with a buffer for I-94 and the weather.
Beyond downtown: suburbs, Chicago and O'Hare
The fixed fares above cover downtown Milwaukee. Any other address, from the North Shore to Lake Country or Racine, is priced instantly in the web booker, and Visit Milwaukee is a good place to plan the stops in between. Many Wisconsin travellers also fly long-haul from Chicago; a fixed-price city to city car service handles that run, and our Chicago limo service page has the O'Hare and Midway fares for the Chicago end. For getting around Milwaukee once you arrive, our guide to Milwaukee taxi vs Uber vs a private car around town covers the streetcar, game nights and festival weekends.

Frequently asked questions
Where do Uber and Lyft pick up at Milwaukee airport?
According to Milwaukee Mitchell International, rideshare passengers follow the signs near Carousel 2. Request the ride once you have your bags, because the driver is assigned at that moment. Prices are set by the app and can rise when demand is high, so check the quote before you confirm the ride.
Where is the taxi stand at MKE?
The taxi pickup station is outside Baggage Claim 3. Cross the baggage claim roadway and follow the signs to the taxi lane behind the rental car area. Taxis are metered, so the fare depends on distance and traffic. There is no need to book ahead, but vehicle size depends on the next car in the line.
How much is a private car from MKE to downtown Milwaukee?
An Elly8.net business sedan is US$120, a business SUV US$160, a First Class SUV US$195, a First Class sedan US$210 and an Executive Sprinter US$315, per vehicle, fixed and all-in. The drive is about 8 mi (12 km), roughly 16 minutes on a clear road, and the same fares apply from downtown back to the airport.
Is there a bus from Milwaukee airport to downtown?
Yes. The MCTS GreenLine stops on the traffic island outside Exit 2 and runs through downtown, and Route 80 stops on the ticketing curb near the American and United entrance. The adult fare is US$2.75, with a daily cap of US$8.25 for app and card users. It suits one traveller with light luggage.
Will my chauffeur wait if my flight is late?
Yes. Your flight number is tracked, so the pickup follows the actual landing time, and complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing. If the flight is cancelled or diverted, message the 24/7 desk and the booking is moved where possible. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost.
Is a private car worth it for one person?
Sometimes. For a daytime arrival with a carry-on, the bus or a rideshare is cheaper and perfectly good. A booked car is worth the US$120 for a late-night landing, a client pickup, a tight schedule or a winter evening when app waits stretch. Families and groups usually find a fixed vehicle better value than several app rides.
