An MCI car service booked on Elly8.net meets you inside Kansas City International's single terminal: the chauffeur waits with a name board at the exit from baggage claim, stays with you while you collect your bags, and walks you out to the car on the lower-level arrivals curb. The fare from MCI to the Power & Light District is fixed before you fly, from US$185 in a business sedan to US$485 in an Executive Sprinter, all-in per vehicle, and the same in the other direction.
If you last flew into Kansas City before 2023, forget the old routine. The three horseshoe terminals are gone, and everything now happens in one building with one arrivals level. Rides in Kansas City are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
Where does a car service pick you up at MCI?
Inside the terminal. MCI has one terminal and one baggage claim, and an Elly8.net chauffeur waits at the exit from baggage claim with a name board. After bags, you walk out together to the lower-level arrivals curb, where pickups happen. Your flight is tracked, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary.
This post covers the terminal itself and the walk from gate to car. For planning the whole trip across the metro, including departure timing from the Plaza and Johnson County, see our Kansas City airport car service guide. Prices for every vehicle are on our MCI car service page.

The new terminal, in a few facts
According to the airport's new terminal project page, Kansas City International opened in 1972 with a horseshoe-shaped, three-terminal layout. voters approved a single terminal, construction broke ground in March 2019, and the new terminal opened to travellers in February 2023. It has 40 gates and 6,200 garage parking spaces.
For anyone being collected, the change is all upside. There is one arrivals area, one baggage claim and one set of curbs, so the old question of which terminal you are landing at has disappeared. Drop-off is on the upper level at the departures curb, and pickup is on the lower level at the arrivals curb, according to the airport's getting to and from page.
From gate to car, step by step
At the gate. Switch your phone on. The desk has been tracking your flight since you booked, so the chauffeur already knows when you landed. There is no need to send a message unless your plans have changed.
Through the concourse. Follow the signs for baggage claim and ground transportation. In a single-terminal airport, every arriving passenger heads to the same place.
At baggage claim. Your chauffeur is at the exit with your name on a board. If you are travelling with only a carry-on, you can walk straight out together; if you have checked bags, the chauffeur waits with you at the carousel.
Out to the curb. Pickups are on the lower level. The airport is strict about vehicles at the curb: its rules prohibit parked or unattended vehicles in front of the terminal, and a private driver may only stop long enough to load. That is one reason the chauffeur meets you inside first; the car comes to the curb when you are ready, not before.
On the road. Downtown is about 30 km (18 mi) away, around 25 minutes on a clear road, and longer in the rush hour or on a game day.
Wait times: what is included
- Early or late landing: no charge. The pickup follows the tracked flight.
- After landing: complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, enough for the walk and the carousel.
- Long delays on the ground: a lost bag or a long airline queue is fine. Message the desk, the chauffeur keeps waiting, and waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost.
- Missed connection elsewhere: if you rebook onto a later flight, send the new flight number and the pickup moves to it.
- Extra assistance: if anyone in the party uses an airline wheelchair or needs more time, say so when you book. The chauffeur meets you where the airline assistance ends and allows for it, and the vehicle choice can be adjusted for a folding wheelchair or walker in the luggage space.
Every way out of MCI, with the published prices
Kansas City publishes clearer numbers for its airport alternatives than most cities. Here is each option, fairly.
| Option | Price | How it works at MCI | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| RideKC bus | US$2 single ride, US$4 day pass | Route 229 serves the airport, with a transfer at the Boardwalk-KCI station | one traveller, light bag, no schedule pressure |
| Taxi | US$2.50 plus US$2.10 per mile, about US$40 to downtown before tip | called by phone; no airport rank | one or two people, flexible timing |
| Rideshare | set by the app at request | lower-level commercial curb, purple signposts 2K to 2N | off-peak arrivals |
| Friend or family pickup | free | driver waits in the cell phone lot, then meets you at the curb | anyone with a willing local |
| Elly8.net, fixed fare | US$185 sedan to US$485 Sprinter, per vehicle | chauffeur waits inside at baggage claim | late flights, groups, families, meetings |
The bus. RideKC fares returned on June 1, 2026, at US$2 for a single ride and US$4 for a day pass. Buses take contactless cards and do not accept cash, so have a tap-enabled card or phone ready. Route 229 is the airport link, with a change at Boardwalk-KCI.
Taxis. The airport's posted rate is US$2.50 plus US$2.10 per mile, and it notes that fares can rise with traffic delays and waiting time. Cabs are called by phone rather than taken from a rank, and you give the dispatcher your exact location. Fares may be shared when the first passenger requests it and everyone agrees, and a city ordinance requires taxis to take every trip regardless of length.
Rideshare. The airport asks riders to wait until they have their bags and are at the arrivals curb before requesting a car, then to go to the purple signposts 2K to 2N on the commercial curb. Spaces there are limited, so riders wait until their car pulls into a spot.
A friend collecting you. The free cell phone waiting lot is a few minutes from the terminal, with a 45-minute maximum wait, and the driver comes to the curb once you are outside with your bags.
Flat rate vs the meter: the honest arithmetic
On the 18-mile run to downtown, the taxi meter works out to roughly US$40 before tip (US$2.50 plus 18 miles at US$2.10). An Elly8.net business sedan is US$185. For one traveller with a carry-on, the cab is far cheaper, and so is the bus. We would rather say that than pretend otherwise.
The flat rate starts to make sense when other things matter more than the lowest number:
- Groups and bags. Five people with luggage need two cabs or an XL app car if one is free; one business SUV at US$245 carries six passengers and six bags, and the price is per vehicle.
- Families. Child seats are available on request and fitted before pickup.
- Late arrivals. The car is assigned and tracked to your flight, so there is no dispatch call at midnight.
- Meetings. A chauffeur waiting inside saves the time it takes to find a ride.
- Longer trips. For Johnson County or the Plaza, a metered fare keeps growing with each mile; the booker fixes the price before you travel.
- Busy nights. On a Chiefs weekend or a big concert night, app prices move with demand; the fixed fare does not.

Which vehicle at MCI?
| Vehicle | Passengers / bags | MCI to downtown | Round trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | 3 / 2 | US$185 | US$355 |
| Business SUV | 6 / 6 | US$245 | US$470 |
| First Class SUV | 6 / 6 | US$300 | US$570 |
| First Class Sedan | 3 / 2 | US$325 | US$620 |
| Executive Sprinter | 12 / 12 | US$485 | US$925 |
Every fare includes the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost; Kansas City has very few toll roads, so that line rarely appears on an airport run. The fleet page shows each class, and partner vehicles are four model years old or newer.
Arriving for a concert, game or show
Many MCI arrivals are timed to an event. T-Mobile Center in the Power & Light District lists the Jonas Brothers on November 3 and Garth Brooks on November 6 and 7, 2026, among other shows. On those nights, the drop at a downtown hotel near the arena takes longer, and the drive back after the show is when a waiting car is worth the most. The evening out and event night package, from US$475 in a business sedan to US$950 in an Executive Sprinter, covers the drive in, the wait and the drive home. See concert transportation.
For conventions downtown, the desk can stagger arrivals for a team and hold a Sprinter for a group landing within the same hour; see conference transportation.
Flying out of MCI
On departure day, the chauffeur collects you at your hotel or office and drops you at the upper-level departures curb. From downtown on a weekday morning, we usually suggest leaving about 2 hours before a domestic departure, with more time from the Kansas side. The fare is the same fixed price as the arrival.

Frequently asked questions
Does MCI still have three terminals?
No. Kansas City International replaced its three horseshoe-shaped terminals with a single terminal, which opened in February 2023 with 40 gates. There is now one arrivals area and one baggage claim, so a pickup no longer depends on which terminal your airline uses.
Where does my chauffeur wait at MCI?
Inside the terminal, at the exit from baggage claim, holding a name board. The chauffeur helps with your bags and walks you to the car at the lower-level arrivals curb. Because the flight is tracked, the chauffeur works to your real landing time.
How much is a taxi from MCI to downtown Kansas City?
The airport's posted rate is US$2.50 plus US$2.10 per mile, which comes to roughly US$40 for the 18-mile trip downtown before tip, and it can rise with traffic delays and waiting. Taxis are called by phone. An Elly8.net business sedan costs US$185, fixed and all-in.
Where do Uber and Lyft pick up at MCI?
On the lower-level arrivals commercial curb, at the purple signposts 2K to 2N. The airport asks riders to collect their bags and be at the curb before requesting a ride, because spaces are limited. A pre-booked chauffeur, by contrast, is already waiting inside when you land.
Can I take the bus from MCI?
Yes. RideKC Route 229 serves the airport, with a transfer at the Boardwalk-KCI station. A single ride is US$2 and a day pass US$4, paid by contactless card or phone, since buses do not take cash. It suits a solo traveller with light luggage and time to spare.
How much does waiting cost if my bag is lost?
Waiting is complimentary after a tracked landing, which covers the normal time at the carousel. If a lost-bag claim takes much longer, message the desk; the chauffeur keeps waiting, and waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost. Nobody leaves without speaking to you.
