A private driver on Maui through Elly8.net is booked by the hour from US$105 in a business sedan, US$135 in a business SUV and US$210 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum, or as a fixed package: a 4-hour highlights tour from US$420, an 8-hour full day from US$775 and the 10-hour Road to Hana day from US$970. Every price is per vehicle and all-in, including the chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity.
Rides in Maui are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. The island rewards a driver more than most places because its best days are long, start early or end late, and use roads that are tiring to drive after a flight or a day in the sun. This guide covers the island by area, the reservations you need before you book, how many hours each trip really takes, and which vehicle fits.
How much does a private driver cost on Maui?
On Elly8.net, a private driver on Maui costs from US$105 an hour in a business sedan to US$210 an hour in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. Fixed packages include a 4-hour highlights tour from US$420, an 8-hour day from US$775 and the 10-hour Road to Hana from US$970, all per vehicle.
The full published list is on the Maui car service page. The table below sets out every package for the two most popular vehicle classes and the Sprinter.
| Booking | What it covers | Business sedan | Business SUV | Executive Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| By the hour, as directed | 3-hour minimum, up to 12 hours | US$105 / hour | US$135 / hour | US$210 / hour |
| Private highlights tour | 4 hours, your choice of stops | US$420 | US$540 | US$840 |
| Evening out and event night | Dinner or a show, car waiting | US$525 | US$675 | US$1,050 |
| Full-day chauffeur | 8 hours at your disposal | US$775 | US$995 | US$1,550 |
| Road to Hana day | 10 hours, door to door | US$970 | US$1,245 | US$1,935 |
| Corporate roadshow day | 10 hours, planned route | US$945 | US$1,215 | US$1,890 |
First class sedans and SUVs sit between those columns; for example, the full day is US$1,180 in a first class SUV and US$1,255 in a first class sedan. Parking is billed at cost, and Maui has no tolls. The full-day package works out 8% below the hourly rate and the roadshow day 10% below, so a long day is usually better booked as a package than hour by hour.
The island by area: where a driver helps most
Maui is shaped like two volcanoes joined by a flat isthmus. Kahului, the airport and Wailuku sit in the middle; everything else is a drive in one direction.
West Maui (Lahaina, Kaanapali, Napili, Kapalua) is about an hour from the airport on the coast road, which is the one main route in. A driver helps for airport runs, dinners across the island and wedding days. For Lahaina, which is rebuilding after the 2023 wildfire, chauffeurs use open roads and follow the County of Maui's current access rules, and we do not run sightseeing drives through the burn zone.
South Maui (Kihei, Wailea, Makena) is the shorter run from the airport, about 40 minutes to Wailea. It is a common base for families and golfers, and the starting point for long days to Haleakala and Hana.
Central Maui (Kahului, Wailuku and Iao Valley) is close to the airport and holds the island's cultural venues, including the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului.
Upcountry (Makawao, Kula) sits on the slopes of Haleakala, with cooler air, farms and the road to the summit.
The north shore and East Maui begin at Paia, about 13 minutes from the airport, where the Hana Highway sets off along the coast.
Four days a driver makes easy
Haleakala sunrise
Sunrise at the summit needs a reservation. Haleakala National Park releases sunrise reservations on recreation.gov up to 60 days ahead at 7 a.m. Hawaii time, holds back a portion for release two days before, and allows one sunrise reservation per visitor per three-day period. Book that first, then the car.
The drive is the hard part. From Kaanapali, the summit is about 101 km (63 mi), a little over two hours on a clear road; from Wailea it is about 84 km (52 mi). That means a pickup in the middle of the night and a winding drive in the dark, which is exactly when a professional chauffeur earns the booking. Count the hours from pickup to return: a sunrise trip from West Maui with breakfast on the way down often reaches seven or eight hours, so the 8-hour full day at US$775 in a business sedan is usually the better buy than paying hourly. Bring warm layers; the summit is cold before dawn.
The Road to Hana
The signature Maui day is the 10-hour Road to Hana, from US$970 in a business sedan to US$1,935 in an Executive Sprinter. The highway winds along the north-east coast past waterfalls, black-sand beaches and many one-lane bridges. With a driver, everyone gets to look out of the window and nobody has to manage the curves on the way back.
Plan one stop in advance. Waianapanapa State Park, with its black-sand beach near Hana, requires reservations for all visitors, open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The state lists a US$5 entry fee per non-resident and separate parking rates for commercial vehicles: US$25 for a 1 to 7 passenger vehicle and US$50 for 8 to 25 passengers. Parking is billed at cost on your booking. Reserve a time slot and send it to the desk, and the day is built around it.
Iao Valley, Wailuku and the north shore
A half-day in Central Maui fits the 4-hour highlights tour, from US$420 in a business sedan. Iao Valley State Monument, with its paved 0.6-mile walk to a lookout over the Iao Needle, requires advance reservations for out-of-state visitors and is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The same commercial parking rates apply, and the state notes that reservations are required for commercial vehicles too, so book the slot first and tell the desk the time. Add Wailuku town, then Paia for lunch on the north shore, and the four hours are well used.
Dinner on the other side of the island
Many visitors stay in Wailea and want dinner in West Maui, or the reverse. Kaanapali to Wailea is about 50 km (31 mi), roughly an hour each way, and nobody wants that drive after dinner. The evening out and event night package runs from US$525 in a business sedan to US$1,050 in an Executive Sprinter, with the chauffeur waiting for the ride home. The chauffeur follows Hawaii's rules on alcohol in vehicles, so keep the toast for the restaurant. For concerts and shows in Kahului, see our event transportation page.
How many hours does a Maui day really take?
The most common booking mistake on Maui is under-counting hours. Distances look short on a map, but the roads are winding, the stops are long and the light is worth waiting for.
| Trip | Typical span | Best booking |
|---|---|---|
| Airport to hotel with a lunch stop | 3 to 4 hours | Hourly, 3-hour minimum |
| Iao Valley, Wailuku and Paia | about 4 hours | Highlights tour |
| Dinner across the island and back | about 5 hours | Evening out package |
| Haleakala sunrise from West or South Maui | 7 to 8 hours | Full-day chauffeur |
| Road to Hana and back | 10 hours | Road to Hana day |
| Golf, lunch and a business dinner | 8 to 10 hours | Full day or roadshow day |
If a day might run long, book the extra hour in advance rather than on the day. Hourly bookings can be set from 3 up to 12 hours at checkout, and the car waits between stops. Our hourly chauffeur and private city tours pages explain how waiting and stops work.
Which vehicle fits which trip
Capacities are from the Elly8.net fleet page, and partner vehicles are four model years old or newer.
- Business sedan (3 passengers, 2 bags). Couples, a business traveller, dinner nights.
- First class sedan (3 passengers, 2 bags). An anniversary or a client who should arrive in an S-Class or similar.
- Business SUV (6 passengers, 6 bags). Families, beach gear, Upcountry roads, child seats on request.
- First class SUV (6 passengers, 6 bags). The larger, quieter SUV for a family or a small executive team.
- Executive Sprinter (12 passengers, 12 bags). Reunions, wedding parties, retreat groups, golf foursomes with clubs. Our Maui Sprinter planning guide covers group days in detail.
For a long, winding day like Hana, comfort matters more than on a transfer. Many families choose the SUV even when a sedan would technically fit, because the extra room makes a 10-hour day easier.
When you do not need a driver
A private driver is not the answer to every Maui day. If you are staying a week on one coast, enjoy driving and plan beach days near your hotel, a rental car may cost less overall, and our chauffeur vs renting a car page compares the two. For a short daytime hop with light bags, a taxi or rideshare is often cheaper; the Maui taxi guide in this series lists the airport's published estimates.
Where a driver clearly wins is the long or awkward day: the pre-dawn sunrise, the Hana road, the dinner an hour away, the wedding timeline, the client visit and the airport run with children and a week of luggage. Many guests mix both, renting for part of the stay and booking a driver for the two or three days that matter.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a private driver on Maui per hour?
From US$105 an hour in a business sedan, US$135 in a business SUV, US$160 in a first class SUV, US$170 in a first class sedan and US$210 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. Prices are per vehicle and all-in. For eight hours or more, the full-day and roadshow packages cost less than the same hours booked one by one.
How much is the Road to Hana with a private driver?
The 10-hour Road to Hana day costs from US$970 in a business sedan, US$1,245 in a business SUV and US$1,935 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, door to door from your hotel. Reserve Waianapanapa State Park in advance if you want to stop there, and parking fees are billed at cost.
Can a driver take us to Haleakala for sunrise?
Yes, once you hold a sunrise reservation from the National Park Service on recreation.gov. The pickup is in the middle of the night, so the desk times it to your reservation. From West or South Maui, the trip usually runs seven to eight hours, which makes the 8-hour full-day chauffeur from US$775 the usual booking.
Do we need reservations for state parks?
For Iao Valley State Monument and Waianapanapa State Park, yes: the state requires advance reservations for out-of-state visitors and for commercial vehicles, and lists separate commercial parking rates. Make the reservation first, send the time slot to the desk, and the chauffeur plans the day around it.
Can we book child seats for a day tour?
Yes, child seats are available on request for any booking. Give each child's age and weight when you book, and the seats are fitted before pickup. For long days such as Hana, families often choose a business SUV for the extra room even when a sedan would fit.
Is a private driver worth it compared with renting a car?
For a whole week, a rental car often costs less. For the long or awkward days, such as the pre-dawn Haleakala drive, the Hana road or dinner an hour away, a driver means nobody in the group has to drive tired. Many guests rent for part of the stay and book a driver for two or three key days.
