Uber operates in Ibiza, using licensed hire vehicles with drivers, and you can request a ride on demand or schedule one ahead in the app. Ibiza's licensed taxis run on a regulated meter from ranks and by phone. A pre-booked private car through Elly8.net costs more, from US$120 for the airport to Ibiza Town in a business sedan, but it is fixed in advance and waiting for you.
None of the three is right for every trip. In May, almost anything works. In August, the right choice depends on the hour, the address and how many of you there are. Below, we take eight trips most visitors make and say honestly which option we would use for each.
Should you use Uber, a taxi or a private car in Ibiza?
Use a taxi or Uber for short daytime trips and off-season travel, when cars are easy to find and the meter or app price is low. Book a private car for summer arrivals, villa addresses, groups, club nights and departures with a deadline, when the island's shortage of cars at peak hours makes on-demand rides slow or expensive.
| Trip | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Summer weekend arrival, family of five | Private car | Rank queues at peaks; one vehicle for people and bags |
| May arrival, solo, carry-on | Taxi or bus | Cheap, quick, no queue |
| Beach day to Cala Comte or Cala d'Hort | Private car by the hour, or taxi both ways | Getting back from a cove is the hard part |
| Dinner in Ibiza Town from a hotel in town | Walk or taxi | Short distance, easy ranks |
| Dinner and club night, group of six | Private car (evening package) | Closing-time shortage; one car home |
| Yacht handover at the marina | Private car | Luggage, timing, marina access |
| Formentera day trip | Taxi or Uber to the ferry | Simple daytime hop to the port |
| Early departure in August | Private car | Fixed pickup, no morning surge |
How each option works on the island
Uber. In Spain, app rides are provided by licensed hire vehicles with a driver (VTC), not by private cars. The app shows a price before you confirm and the price moves with demand. Uber's own Ibiza guide tells riders that pickup times may be longer than in larger cities and suggests scheduling a ride in advance. We think that is an honest description: Uber is useful here, with fewer cars than in a big city and longer waits at peaks.
Taxi. Ibiza's taxis are metered at rates set by the island authorities. Aena's Ibiza airport taxi page lists €1.21 per km by day and €1.47 at night and on holidays, plus a €4.00 start supplement and €2.00 for airport or port trips, with suitcases carried free. It also advises using only the signed rank at the terminal and avoiding drivers offering rides elsewhere. Our post on Ibiza taxi fares and summer waits works through the arithmetic for common routes.
Private car. An Elly8.net booking is a chauffeured car at a fixed price agreed before you travel, charged in US dollars, per vehicle. Airport pickups include flight tracking and meet and greet in arrivals, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. Rides in Ibiza are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
Eight trips, and what we would book
1. The summer weekend arrival
A family of five lands at 3 p.m. on an August Saturday after connecting through Madrid. Baggage reclaim is slow and the taxi rank stretches along the kerb. Uber's matches are thin at the same moment. This is the trip where a private car earns its price: a Business SUV from the airport to Ibiza Town is US$160, carrying 6 passengers and 6 bags, and the chauffeur is in arrivals with a name board. For a villa further out, the web booker quotes a fixed fare by address. More on airport options, including the AERO bus lines, is in our Ibiza airport transfer guide.
2. The quiet-season solo arrival
One traveller with a carry-on lands on a Tuesday in May. Take a taxi from the rank or the airport bus. By our arithmetic on the published meter, the airport to Ibiza Town is about €14.50 in the daytime before any waiting, and the AERO 3 bus is €3.50 paid by card or QR. A private car at US$120 makes little sense here, and we would say so.
3. The beach day
Getting to a cove such as Cala Comte, near Sant Antoni, or Cala d'Hort, facing the islet of Es Vedrà, is easy by taxi or app in the morning. Getting back at 7 p.m., when everyone else is leaving the same beach, is the hard part, because coves are not places where taxis wait. Two options work: book a taxi or app ride for a fixed return time and accept a possible wait, or hire a car by the hour. Hourly hire costs US$95 in a business sedan to US$190 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. Our post on Ibiza day tours with a private driver maps out beach and village routes.
4. Dinner in town
If you are staying in Ibiza Town and eating in the Marina or below Dalt Vila, walk or take a short taxi. The upper streets of Dalt Vila are largely closed to traffic in any case, so every car stops at the gates or the nearest permitted point.
5. The club night, group of six
Six friends staying in a villa near Santa Gertrudis want dinner, a club in Playa d'en Bossa and a ride home at 5 a.m. Two taxis there are manageable; two taxis back at closing time in August are not. The evening out and event night package covers dinner, the club and the ride home in one vehicle, with a return time you set and can change through the 24/7 desk: US$600 in a Business SUV, or as arithmetic only, US$100 each for six. The chauffeur follows local rules in the vehicle itself. See concert and festival transportation.
6. The yacht handover
Charter guests arrive from the airport with luggage and provisions and an embarkation time. A private car brings everyone to the closest vehicle access point at the marina and helps with bags as the marina allows. The Ports de Balears authority runs the commercial port; private marinas sit around the harbour. Give the desk the marina, berth and captain's contact.
For a company event or a brand weekend on the island, the same logic applies at scale: guest shuttles between hotels, the venue and the airport are planned as a schedule rather than left to dozens of separate app requests. A corporate account adds monthly invoicing and NDAs on request.
7. The Formentera day
Ferries to Formentera leave from the port in Ibiza Town. From a hotel in town, a taxi or an app ride to the terminal in the morning is simple and inexpensive. A private car makes sense only if you are coming from a villa across the island with a group.
8. The departure
An early August flight from a villa in the north is the trip where you least want to gamble on a match. Airport fares are the same fixed price in either direction, so the departure costs what the arrival did, and the pickup time is set with you in advance. Uber's scheduling option is an alternative for a light traveller; a group with luggage is better in one booked vehicle.
Mixing the three over a week
Most visitors use all three. A sensible week might look like this: a booked car on arrival, because it lands on a Saturday afternoon; taxis and the app for beach hops and dinners in town; the bus for one cheap trip into Ibiza Town; an evening package for the one big club night; and a booked car for the departure, set for an early pickup. That plan pre-books three rides out of perhaps fifteen, and those three are the rides where a long wait would hurt most. The other twelve stay cheap and flexible. If you are coordinating a group, put the three key rides on one booking and share the confirmation email so everyone knows the pickup times.
A fair word on cost
For one or two people on short trips, Uber or a taxi will almost always cost less than a private car. The gap narrows as the group grows and as the trip gets longer, more complicated or more time-sensitive. A Business SUV at US$160 from the airport to Ibiza Town carries six; an Executive Sprinter at US$315 carries twelve with their bags, about US$26 each as arithmetic. Elly8.net prices are per vehicle, never per person, and there is no surge: the price you book is the price you pay. Parking and any extra waiting are billed at cost.
The real comparison is not price per ride but how many rides matter. Most visitors are best served by pre-booking the arrival, the departure and the big night, and using taxis and the app for the rest. Compare the categories in chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft and Uber Black vs chauffeur.
Tips for North American travellers
A few practical points come up again and again at the desk from travellers flying in from the United States and Canada.
Your phone needs data before the app works. Uber needs a connection to match you with a driver and show the meeting point. If your plan relies on the app at the airport, make sure roaming or a local eSIM is active before you land, not after you reach the kerb.
Taxis are paid in euros. The meter shows euros, and the supplements for the start of service and for airport trips are part of the published tariff. Ask for a receipt, which Aena recommends if you need to raise a complaint.
Pre-booked fares are paid before you travel. An Elly8.net booking is charged in US dollars when you reserve, so there is no currency exchange at the end of the ride and nothing to settle in the car. Standard gratuity is already included.
House names, not street numbers. Many villas are known by a name on a numbered lane. A taxi or app driver may need you to guide them in; a pre-booked chauffeur receives the GPS pin and directions in advance from the desk.
Plan the last ride first. On a club night or a sunset at Sant Antoni, decide how you are getting home before you go out. That single decision avoids most of the bad nights we hear about.
Licensed rides only
Whatever you choose, use licensed vehicles: a taxi from the rank or a phone dispatch, an app ride through a licensed platform, or a pre-booked chauffeur. Aena's advice at the airport is to take taxis only from the signed rank and avoid drivers offering rides elsewhere. An unlicensed driver offers no regulated fare, no receipt and no clear insurance position if something goes wrong.

Frequently asked questions
Does Uber work in Ibiza?
Yes. Uber operates in Ibiza with licensed hire vehicles and drivers, and you can request a ride on demand or schedule one ahead. Uber's own guide notes pickup times may be longer than in larger cities. Prices are shown before you confirm and change with demand.
Is Uber cheaper than a taxi in Ibiza?
It depends on demand. Taxis use a published meter, €1.21 per km by day and €1.47 at night plus supplements. Uber's price is set by the app and rises when demand rises. Compare both on the night; neither publishes a fixed fare for every route.
When is a private car worth it in Ibiza?
For summer arrivals and departures, villa addresses down unpaved lanes, groups that need one large vehicle, club nights with a set ride home, and yacht handovers. For short daytime hops off-season, a taxi or app ride is usually the better value.
How much is a private car from Ibiza airport to Ibiza Town?
Elly8.net fares are US$120 in a business sedan, US$160 in a business SUV, US$195 in a First Class SUV, US$210 in a First Class Sedan and US$315 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. The same fixed price applies from Ibiza Town back to the airport.
Can we book one car for the whole evening?
Yes. The evening out and event night package costs from US$475 in a business sedan to US$950 in an Executive Sprinter and covers dinner, the club and the ride home. You set the return time and can change it through the 24/7 desk during the night.
Do we need a private car for the Formentera ferry?
Usually not. Ferries leave from the port in Ibiza Town, and a taxi or app ride from a hotel in town is simple. A private car makes sense for a group coming from a villa across the island, or with luggage on a transfer day.
