An Ibiza airport transfer is the 7 km (5 mi) trip from Ibiza Airport (IBZ) to Ibiza Town, about 16 minutes on a clear road, or a longer run to Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària or a villa in the north. Ibiza has no railway, so the options are the AERO airport buses, the taxi rank, an app ride or a pre-booked car. With Elly8.net, a private transfer to Ibiza Town costs from US$120 in a business sedan to US$315 in an Executive Sprinter, fixed and per vehicle.
For North American travellers the transfer comes at the end of a long day: an overnight flight to a European hub and a connection to the island. That is worth planning around. This guide explains how the airport works, what each option costs and how long it takes to reach each part of the island, and when we would choose the bus or a taxi over a booked car.
What is the best way to get from Ibiza airport to your hotel?
For one traveller with light bags, the AERO buses are the cheapest, at €3.50 to €5.60 depending on line and payment. For one to four people outside peak times, the metered taxi is quick and fairly priced. For summer weekend arrivals, families, groups and villas, a pre-booked driver waiting in arrivals avoids the rank queue and the search for the house.
| Option | Price | Where | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| AERO bus lines | €3.50 to €5.60 per person | Bus stop at the terminal | Solo travellers near a stop |
| Taxi | Metered, €1.21 per km by day plus supplements | Signed rank at the terminal | One to four people, off-peak |
| App ride | Shown in the app, varies with demand | App pickup point | Light travellers at quiet times |
| Elly8.net private transfer | US$120 to US$315 to Ibiza Town, per vehicle | Name board inside arrivals | Summer peaks, families, villas, groups |
Arriving from North America
Most travellers from the United States and Canada reach Ibiza by connecting through a European hub such as Madrid, Barcelona or London. If your connection is inside the Schengen area, you usually clear passport control at the hub, and the arrival in Ibiza feels domestic: off the plane, through baggage reclaim and into the arrivals hall. Arriving from London, you clear passport control on the island.
Ibiza Airport is a single-terminal airport in the south of the island, near Sant Jordi and the salt flats. On summer weekend afternoons many flights land within a few hours, and baggage reclaim and the taxi rank both slow down. Out of season it is a quiet, easy airport.
Two practical notes after a transatlantic journey:
- Give the chauffeur your final flight number, the one landing in Ibiza. The chauffeur tracks that flight, so a delayed connection does not matter, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary.
- Check your phone's data before landing if you plan to use an app ride; the app needs a connection to match you with a car.
The AERO buses: fares and lines
The island's airport bus lines are run under the Alsa Ibiza concession. Aena's Ibiza bus page lists five lines, and the Alsa Ibiza fares page publishes the single-ticket prices: one fare paid on board by bank card or with a QR ticket, and a higher fare for cash.
| Line | Route | Card or QR | Cash |
|---|---|---|---|
| AERO 1 | Airport, Sant Josep area, Sant Antoni | €3.50 to €4.00 by stop | €4.90 to €5.60 |
| AERO 2 | Airport, Sant Jordi, Ibiza bus station | €3.50 | €4.90 |
| AERO 3 | Airport express to Ibiza Town | €3.50 | €4.90 |
| AERO 4 | Airport, Santa Eulària, Es Canar, Cala Nova | €4.00 | €5.60 |
| AERO 5 | Airport, Playa d'en Bossa, Ses Figueretes | €3.50 | €4.90 |
Aena notes that AERO 1 and AERO 4 have been available since 1 April 2026; check the Alsa Ibiza timetable for your travel dates, especially outside summer. Luggage is a practical limit rather than a rule on a crowded summer bus, and every route ends at a stop, not your door. For a solo traveller staying near a stop, the bus is the best value on the island.
The taxi rank
Aena's Ibiza taxi page states that the airport has a permanent fleet of 69 taxis, with 70 more from June to September for 139 in total, and that suitcases and pets travel free. Take taxis only from the signed rank. The meter runs at €1.21 per km by day and €1.47 at night and on public holidays, with a €4.00 start supplement and €2.00 for airport trips.
By our arithmetic on those published rates, the airport to Ibiza Town is about €14.50 on the meter in the daytime before waiting, and the airport to Sant Antoni about €32.60. Those are not quotes, but they show that the taxi is fair value. The question in summer is the queue, not the price. Our post on Ibiza taxi fares and summer waits explains when and why it gets long.
App rides from the airport
Uber operates in Ibiza through licensed hire vehicles with drivers, and you can request a ride from the airport or schedule one in advance. Uber's own Ibiza guide warns that pickup times may be longer than in larger cities, which matches the summer pattern at the taxi rank described above. The price is shown in the app before you confirm and rises with demand, so compare it with the taxi meter on the day. For light travellers arriving at a quiet hour, an app ride is a reasonable choice; for a summer weekend arrival with a family, the same shortage that lengthens the taxi queue also thins out app matches. How long to each part of the island
| From Ibiza Airport to | Distance (routed) | Clear-road drive |
|---|---|---|
| Playa d'en Bossa | 4 km / 3 mi | about 13 min |
| Ibiza Town | 7 km / 5 mi | about 16 min |
| Sant Antoni | 22 km / 14 mi | about 31 min |
| Santa Eulària | 22 km / 14 mi | about 32 min |
| Sant Joan | 29 km / 18 mi | about 37 min |
| Portinatx | 35 km / 22 mi | about 46 min |
Ibiza Town is the published Elly8.net fare. The other times are our estimates from the public OSRM routing engine; summer traffic and unpaved villa lanes add time. For any address other than Ibiza Town, the web booker gives a fixed quote.
The pre-booked private transfer
An Elly8.net Ibiza airport transfer is priced per vehicle and fixed before you fly: US$120 in a business sedan, US$160 in a business SUV, US$195 in a First Class SUV, US$210 in a First Class Sedan and US$315 in an Executive Sprinter to Ibiza Town. A round trip costs from US$230 to US$600. The fare includes the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet in arrivals; parking and extra waiting are billed at cost. The same fixed price applies on the way back to the airport.
Choose the vehicle by bags and road as much as by headcount. On the fleet page, a sedan takes 3 passengers and 2 bags, an SUV 6 and 6, and a Sprinter 12 and 12. For villas down dirt tracks, an SUV has the clearance. Child seats are fitted before pickup on request.
Rides in Ibiza are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
A family of four to Ibiza Town, three ways
To make the comparison concrete, take two adults and two children, four large cases and two carry-ons, landing at 4 p.m. on a Saturday in July and staying at a hotel near the marinas. This is our arithmetic using the published fares above, not a quote.
The bus. Four AERO 3 tickets at €3.50 each by card comes to €14. It is the cheapest option by far, but it means managing four large cases on a summer bus that may be full of other arrivals, then walking from the stop to the hotel with tired children.
A taxi. The meter for 7 km in the daytime, with the start and airport supplements, is roughly €14.50 before waiting, and luggage travels free. The cost is excellent; the variable is the rank queue at 4 p.m. on a July Saturday, and whether four large cases and two carry-ons fit in the car that reaches the front. Child seats are not something you can count on at a rank.
A pre-booked car. A Business SUV, which carries 6 passengers and 6 bags, costs US$160 for the vehicle. The chauffeur is in arrivals with a name board, child seats are already fitted, and the family is at the hotel without queuing.
The honest conclusion: the taxi wins on price and the bus wins on price by a wider margin, while the booked car wins on certainty at the busiest hour of the week. Out of season, at a quiet hour, we would take the taxi. In July on a Saturday afternoon with two children, we would book.
Departure day: getting back to IBZ
The airport run on the last day deserves the same care as the arrival. Summer roads around the airport are busy, and check-in and security queues build on peak days. A taxi booked by phone or an app ride is fine at a quiet hour, but an early-morning departure from a villa in the north, about 35 km (22 mi) and three quarters of an hour from the airport by our routed estimate, is the trip where you least want to wait for a match. A pre-booked car costs the same fixed fare as the arrival, and the desk sets the pickup time with you.
When we would choose the bus or a taxi
We would rather you book the right thing. Take the AERO bus if you are one person with a backpack staying near a stop. Take a taxi if you are one to four people landing outside the summer weekend peaks, going to Ibiza Town, Playa d'en Bossa or a hotel on a main road. In May or October, either is usually easy.
Book a car if you land on a summer Friday to Sunday afternoon, travel as a family with children's seats and a stroller, are going to a villa that is a house name on a numbered lane, or are a group that needs one vehicle. The comparison of all three for other island trips is in Ibiza: Uber vs taxi vs private car.
Villas, yachts and Formentera
Villas. Send the villa name, GPS pin, gate arrangements and the house manager's number when you book. The chauffeur arrives with directions rather than searching for the house after dark.
Yachts. For charter guests heading straight to the marina, give the marina, berth and captain's contact; the chauffeur drives to the closest vehicle access point and helps with luggage as the marina allows.
Formentera. Ferries to Formentera leave from the port in Ibiza Town, run under the Ports de Balears authority. A transfer from the airport to the ferry terminal is a short drive, and the desk can arrange a partner on Formentera if you need one.
Turning the arrival into a first afternoon
Landing at lunchtime with a 3 p.m. check-in? Book the car by the hour instead of a straight transfer: US$95 in a business sedan to US$190 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. The luggage stays in the car while you walk Dalt Vila or have lunch at the marinas, and you reach the hotel as the room is ready. Our post on Ibiza day tours with a private driver suggests a short first-day route. See also hourly chauffeur.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a train from Ibiza airport?
No. Ibiza has no railway. From the airport you can take an AERO bus, a taxi from the signed rank, an app ride or a pre-booked car. Ibiza Town is only about 7 km (5 mi) away, around 16 minutes on a clear road.
How much is the bus from Ibiza airport to Ibiza Town?
On the AERO 3 express and AERO 2 lines, a single ticket costs €3.50 paid on board by bank card or with a QR ticket, and €4.90 in cash, according to the Alsa Ibiza fares page. Lines to Sant Antoni and Santa Eulària cost up to €4.00 by card and €5.60 in cash.
How much is a private transfer from Ibiza airport?
To Ibiza Town, Elly8.net costs US$120 in a business sedan, US$160 in a business SUV, US$210 in a First Class Sedan and US$315 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. For Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària or a villa, the web booker gives a fixed quote by address.
Where does the chauffeur meet us?
Inside the arrivals hall, holding a name board, after you have collected your bags. The chauffeur tracks your final flight into Ibiza, adjusts to any delay and walks you to the car. Waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary.
How early should we leave for a departure?
That depends on the time of year and your airline. In summer, allow extra time for traffic and busy check-in and security queues; the desk sets the pickup time with you when you book. The fare to the airport is the same fixed price as the arrival.
Can you take us to a villa down a dirt road?
Yes. Send the villa name, GPS pin, gate details and the house manager's number when you book, and choose a Business SUV or First Class SUV for ground clearance. If a lane is too narrow for a Sprinter, the desk will suggest two SUVs.
