Cannes to Monaco is about 55 km (34 mi) from La Croisette to Monte-Carlo, roughly 52 minutes on a clear road by our routing, almost all of it on the A8 motorway past Antibes and Nice. In summer, at the evening rush or on a Grand Prix morning, plan on considerably longer. Both towns sit on the coastal railway, and a helicopter links the business aviation airport at Cannes-Mandelieu with the Monaco heliport.
For a single traveller going for the day with a small bag, the train is the sensible, inexpensive choice. A private car is the better tool when you are a group, when the evening ends late, when the day includes stops at Antibes or Èze, or when you are commuting to the Grand Prix. With Elly8.net, a Cannes car by the hour costs from US$90 in a business sedan with a 3-hour minimum, and the full-day chauffeur from US$665 per vehicle, fixed and all-in.
How far is Cannes from Monaco, and how long does it take?
About 55 km (34 mi), roughly 52 minutes on a clear road from La Croisette to Monte-Carlo by our routing, mostly on the A8. Allow well over an hour in summer traffic or on event days. Regional trains run along the coast between both towns, and an Elly8.net car is from US$90 an hour.
The route is simple: up from the Croisette to the A8, east past Antibes and Nice, then down to Monaco by exit 56, exit 57 or exit 58, depending on which district you need. The Monaco Tourist Office's road access page explains that exits 56 and 57 lead down through a tunnel to the Rock, Fontvieille, Port Hercule and Monte-Carlo, while exit 58 enters near Larvotto. The motorway is tolled, and tolls are billed at cost.

Who makes this trip
Four kinds of traveller book Cannes to Monaco most often.
Grand Prix guests staying in Cannes. The Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco runs from 4 to 6 June 2027. Hotels in Monaco fill early, and many guests stay along the coast and travel in each morning, returning after the evening's events.
Festival and conference guests taking a day off. The Cannes Film Festival from 11 to 22 May 2027 and Cannes Lions from 21 to 25 June 2027 bring thousands of visitors who want a lunch in Monte-Carlo or a look at the harbour between sessions.
Yacht buyers and brokers. The Cannes Yachting Festival runs from 7 to 12 September 2027, and the Monaco Yacht Show follows from 22 to 25 September 2027. Many people in the industry work both, moving between the two harbours.
Private jet arrivals at Cannes-Mandelieu. The tourist office notes that Cannes-Mandelieu, about sixty kilometres from the principality, is devoted to business aviation. Our routing puts it at about 54 minutes by road to Monte-Carlo.
The train along the coast
Both towns are on the regional TER line that follows the coast towards Ventimiglia. The Cannes Tourist Office's how-to-get-there page describes TER trains running from Les Arcs-Draguignan to Ventimiglia via Antibes, Biot, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer, and notes that a TER ticket is valid on any train that day for the route you chose. The Monaco Tourist Office's train page confirms that Monaco-Monte-Carlo is a stop on the Grasse to Ventimiglia TER line, with no reservation needed. Check the SNCF timetable for the journey time on your day.
What to know with luggage: Cannes station is in the town centre, a short walk from the Croisette, but Monaco-Monte-Carlo is underground, reached by escalators, stairs and passages, with exits for Monte-Carlo, the port, La Condamine and Fontvieille. Several exits have lifts, and taxis wait at the station. For a day trip with a handbag, none of that matters. For a family moving hotels with four suitcases, it does.
Bus and helicopter
There is no single coach from Cannes to Monaco listed by either tourist office. You can make the trip in two legs through Nice airport: line 81 between Cannes and the airport, which the Cannes Tourist Office lists at €20.50 a single, about 45 minutes and every 30 minutes, and line 80 from the airport to Monaco, every 30 minutes at €21.40, according to the line 80 site. By simple arithmetic, that is €41.90 per person one way and two changes of bus with luggage, which is why few visitors choose it.
The helicopter is the fast option. The Monaco Tourist Office's helicopter page describes regular links between the Monaco heliport and Cannes-Mandelieu, as well as Saint-Tropez, and Cannes has its own heliport at the end of the old port jetty. On a race morning, for a light traveller, it is often the right answer.

A note on taxis: Taxis Cannes, which the Cannes Tourist Office describes as the town's official network, has more than 150 taxis available around the clock and takes bookings by phone, online or through its app. For a run to Monaco, ask for the fare when you book, because neither tourist office publishes a fixed rate for that trip.
What a private car costs for Cannes to Monaco
There is no fixed list fare from Cannes to Monaco, because almost nobody makes it as a single one-way ride; they make a day of it, or an evening. That gives three ways to book.
A one-way transfer. Enter your Cannes hotel or villa and your Monaco address in the web booker for an instant fixed price.
By the hour. A Cannes car service by the hour costs US$90 in a business sedan, US$115 in a business SUV, US$145 in a First Class Sedan and US$180 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. As simple arithmetic, a six-hour evening, an hour each way plus four hours for dinner at Monte-Carlo, is US$540 in a business sedan, with the car waiting nearby and the chauffeur bringing you home.
For the whole day. The full-day chauffeur from Cannes costs from US$665 in a business sedan, US$850 in a business SUV, US$1,070 in a First Class Sedan and US$1,325 in an Executive Sprinter. This is the usual choice for a Grand Prix day or a yacht-show day with several stops.
Fares are per vehicle, not per person, and include the chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity. Tolls and parking are billed at cost. Rides in Cannes and Monaco are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Every published fare is on the Cannes chauffeur page and the Monaco chauffeur page.
A day from Cannes to Monaco by car
The car makes the coast between the two worth seeing rather than skipping. Leave the Croisette at nine and stop in Antibes, about 19 minutes away, for the old town and the Picasso Museum listed by the Antibes Juan-les-Pins tourist office. Continue past Nice to Èze, about 54 km and 49 minutes from Cannes, for the hilltop village. Drop into Monaco for the Rock, the Palace and lunch on the harbour, and finish on the Casino square before the drive home.
Grand Prix days: how the desk plans the commute
Race weekend is the one time when the timing matters more than the route. Roads inside the circuit close during practice, qualifying and the race, and traffic control extends beyond it. The desk sets the morning pickup so you arrive ahead of the sessions you want, drops you at the nearest permitted point and arranges a meeting point for the return. Book early: cars across the Riviera are in heavy demand that weekend. See sports event transportation, and for the guests who prefer to stay closer, our guide to the Nice to Monaco transfer.
Yacht-show September: moving between two harbours
September is when this route turns into a commute for the yachting world. The Cannes Yachting Festival uses the Vieux Port and Port Canto, at opposite ends of the Croisette, and two weeks later the Monaco Yacht Show fills Port Hercule. Brokers and buyers often keep a car by the hour for the week, moving between berths, hotel meetings and dinners, and asking the chauffeur to wait at the quay while a viewing runs long. Give the desk the berth or the stand number, and the chauffeur coordinates with crew for luggage and tender times. See event transportation for how longer schedules are planned.
The late drive home
The most common reason guests switch from the train to a car is the return. A dinner in Monte-Carlo that ends at midnight, followed by the walk to an underground platform and a regional train west, is not how most people want to finish an evening. The chauffeur waits nearby, comes when you call, and has you back on the Croisette in about an hour on a clear road. The same goes for the night after a Grand Prix session or a gala at the Grimaldi Forum, when everyone leaves at once and the taxi ranks empty quickly.
Families, child seats and luggage
Our fleet table sets the limits. A Business Sedan takes three passengers and two bags, a Business SUV six passengers and six bags, and an Executive Sprinter twelve passengers and twelve bags. Ask for child or booster seats when you book and give the children's ages; the partner fits them before pickup. A family moving from a Cannes hotel to a Monaco hotel, rather than visiting for the day, should book a one-way transfer through the web booker, which is quicker than juggling suitcases between two stations. More on group transportation and the fleet.
Tipping and payment for North American travellers
Elly8.net fares include standard gratuity, so no tip is expected at the end of the ride; anything extra is your choice. You pay by card in US dollars when you reserve, which keeps the cost in your own currency and on one receipt. For longer runs along the coast and into Italy, see city to city car service.
When the train wins, and when the car does
The train wins for a day visit with light bags, outside event days, for one or two people. The car wins for groups (an Executive Sprinter takes twelve passengers and twelve bags), for evenings that end after the trains thin out, for days with stops, for private jet arrivals at Cannes-Mandelieu and for race weekend. If you would rather try an app, read our notes on Uber in Cannes first. Corporate guests can put it all on a corporate account with monthly invoicing.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the drive from Cannes to Monaco?
About 52 minutes on a clear road for roughly 55 km (34 mi) from La Croisette to Monte-Carlo, by our routing, mostly on the A8 motorway. In summer traffic, at the evening rush or on a Grand Prix morning, allow well over an hour. Tolls on the route are billed at cost.
Is there a direct train from Cannes to Monaco?
Both towns are on the regional TER line along the coast towards Ventimiglia, and the Monaco Tourist Office lists Monaco-Monte-Carlo as a stop on the Grasse to Ventimiglia line. No reservation is needed. Check the SNCF timetable for the journey time on your day of travel.
How much does a private car from Cannes to Monaco cost?
Enter both addresses in the web booker for a fixed one-way price. By the hour, a Cannes car costs US$90 in a business sedan with a 3-hour minimum, and the full-day chauffeur starts at US$665 per vehicle. Fares include the chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity.
Can we stay in Cannes for the Monaco Grand Prix?
Yes, and many guests do. Book a full-day chauffeur for each race day, from US$665 in a business sedan, and the desk times the pickups around the road closures on 4 to 6 June 2027. Book early, because demand for cars peaks along the whole coast that weekend.
Is the helicopter faster than a car?
Yes. The Monaco Tourist Office describes regular helicopter links between the Monaco heliport and Cannes-Mandelieu. It suits light travellers best, especially on race mornings. With luggage, children or a group, a car door to door is usually easier, and it waits for the return.
Which car suits a group of eight?
An Executive Sprinter takes twelve passengers and twelve bags, from US$180 an hour from Cannes or US$1,325 for the full day, per vehicle. A Business SUV takes six passengers and six bags, so a party of eight with luggage needs the Sprinter or two SUVs.
