At Calgary International Airport (YYC) the cheapest way downtown is the Route 500 express bus at C$4.00, a YYC taxi costs about C$40 to C$45 on the meter, an on-demand airport sedan charges a flat C$68.75, and ride apps price each trip in the app. A pre-booked Elly8.net car is US$105 in a Business Sedan, fixed in advance, with the chauffeur waiting inside arrivals.
Each of those is the right answer for somebody. A solo traveller with a backpack and a family of four with ski bags are not choosing between the same things, and neither are a delegate landing at 7:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. meeting and a couple arriving for a long weekend. This guide from the Elly8.net reservations desk sets out what the airport publishes for each option, then works through seven typical trips. Airport, taxi, transit and app figures are in Canadian dollars; Elly8.net prices are in US dollars, per vehicle.
Which is cheapest from YYC to downtown Calgary?
The Route 500 express bus is cheapest at C$4.00 for an adult. A metered YYC taxi costs about C$40 to C$45 under normal conditions, the flat-rate airport sedan C$68.75, and ride-app prices vary with demand. An Elly8.net Business Sedan is US$105 fixed, and a Business SUV for up to six is US$140.
YYC sits in the city's northeast, about 14 km (9 mi) from downtown and roughly 19 minutes on a clear road, mostly via Deerfoot Trail or Barlow Trail. The price gap between options is real, so the question is what you get for it.
| Option | Price, YYC to downtown | Where you board | Notes from the airport or operator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calgary Transit Route 500 | C$4.00 adult cash fare, valid 90 min | Domestic stop by Pillar 7; international stop by Pillar 32 | Express via Centre Street, limited stops |
| Taxi | about C$40 to C$45 on the meter | Arrivals level, Doors 1, 9 and 15 | Four or five adults; vans for excess luggage |
| Airport sedan | C$68.75 flat zone fare | Beside the taxi stands | On demand; C$11 access fee listed per pick-up |
| Uber or Lyft | set in the app, varies with demand | Arrivals, Doors 3, 12 and 15; Departures Doors 5 and 11 at peak | Only authorised ride apps at YYC |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan | US$105 fixed, all-in | Inside arrivals, name board | Up to 3 passengers and 2 bags |
| Elly8.net Business SUV | US$140 fixed, all-in | Inside arrivals, name board | Up to 6 passengers and 6 bags |

What the airport says about each option
Taxis. The airport's taxis and sedans page places the stands on the Arrivals level at Doors 1, 9 and 15, and says fares are based on meter rates, about C$40 to C$45 to downtown under normal driving conditions. Taxis carry four or five adults, and vans are available for excess luggage. Taxis and limos are regulated by the City of Calgary's Livery Transport Services, and the airport lists a taxi pick-up fee of C$5.10 plus GST, one reason a ride from the airport costs more than a city ride of the same length.
Airport sedans. On the same page, on-demand sedans wait beside the taxi stands and charge flat zone fares: C$68.75 to downtown, and they can go beyond the city limits.
Ride apps. The ride app pick-up page names Uber and Lyft as the only authorised ride-share operators. You meet your driver on the Arrivals level by Doors 3, 12 or 15, or on Departures at Doors 5 and 11 during peak times. Uber's own YYC page publishes a past-month average of about CA$39 for an UberX trip from Calgary to the airport and says that is not a fixed or guaranteed price.
Transit. The public transit page says there is no dedicated LRT line to the airport. Route 500 is an express bus between YYC and downtown via Centre Street. Route 100 connects to Saddletowne LRT station on the Blue Line. At the domestic terminal you cross the roadway at Door 2 toward Pillar 7; at the international terminal you exit Door 15 on the Arrivals level and cross toward Pillar 32. Ticket machines at the stops take debit, credit or cash, and the 7-Eleven on Arrivals near Door 11 sells tickets. Calgary Transit's fares page lists the adult cash fare at C$4.00, valid for 90 minutes.
A pre-booked chauffeur. With Elly8.net you do not look for a door at all. The chauffeur tracks your flight, waits inside arrivals with a name board and walks you to the car, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. See airport meet and greet.
Seven trips, seven honest answers
1. Solo, one carry-on, landing at 2 p.m., hotel near Centre Street
Take the Route 500. At C$4.00 it is the best value at the airport, it runs into downtown with limited stops, and an afternoon arrival gives you time. If the bus has just left and you would rather not wait, a taxi from Door 1, 9 or 15 is the next sensible step.
2. A couple with two cases, early evening, Beltline hotel
A taxi or an UberX will usually be the cheapest door-to-door option, and on an ordinary evening either is fine. Book an Elly8.net Business Sedan at US$105 if you want the price settled before you fly and someone waiting at arrivals, which some travellers value after a long-haul flight.
3. Family of four with ski bags and a toddler
This is where a pre-booked car earns its fare. A taxi takes four or five adults, but ski bags and a child seat make it a squeeze, and the seat is yours to bring. An Elly8.net Business SUV carries up to six passengers and six bags for US$140 to downtown, with child seats on request. The fare is per vehicle; divided by four it is US$35 each, which is arithmetic for comparison only. If the family is heading to the mountains, the Banff car service page lists one-way fares to the town of Banff from US$370 in a Business Sedan and US$485 in a Business SUV.
4. Landing at 7:30 a.m., meeting downtown at 9 a.m.
Pre-book. The morning peak on Deerfoot can turn a 19-minute drive into a much longer one, and standing at a rideshare door while the app searches is not the start you want. A First Class Sedan at US$185 or a Business Sedan at US$105 is waiting inside arrivals and heads straight to the office tower. See executive car service.
5. Arriving at 12:30 a.m. after a delay
Taxis do serve the airport late, and if the queue is moving, take one. The risk is the unknown: a late bank of arrivals, a snowy night, fewer drivers. A flight-tracked airport transfer moves the pickup with your actual landing, and the price you agreed when you booked does not change with the hour.
6. Ten colleagues arriving for a Stampede event
Ten people need three taxis, or two or three ride-app cars, all hailed separately and arriving at different times. One Executive Sprinter at US$275 carries up to twelve passengers and twelve bags in one vehicle on one invoice. During Stampede week, when demand for every kind of ride peaks, booking early matters. See Sprinter van with driver.
7. Straight from the airport to Banff
The airport's bus tours page lists coach and shuttle operators running from YYC to Banff, and for one or two travellers a coach seat is usually the cheapest way to the mountains. A private car suits families, groups and late arrivals after the last coach. Our Calgary airport shuttle comparison looks at shuttles and coaches in more detail.
Departures: getting to YYC on time
The same options run the other way, with a few differences:
- Ride apps drop riders at the Arrivals level curbside area, according to the airport.
- Taxis can be hailed or called; the meter applies.
- Transit works for early flights only if the timetable fits; check Calgary Transit before you rely on it.
- Elly8.net fares are the same fixed price in either direction, so downtown to YYC is US$105 in a Business Sedan. The desk sets the pickup time from your flight and terminal, allowing for Deerfoot at the afternoon peak and for winter weather.
A 5 a.m. departure is the trip where pre-booking any vehicle, app or chauffeur, makes the most sense. The worst outcome is a search for a car in the dark with a check-in deadline approaching. Tell the desk if you are checking skis, golf clubs or oversized bags, because the pickup time and the vehicle both change with the luggage, and international departures need more time at the airport than a short domestic hop.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a taxi from YYC to downtown Calgary?
The Calgary Airport Authority says the metered fare to downtown is about C$40 to C$45 under normal driving conditions. Taxi stands are on the Arrivals level at Doors 1, 9 and 15. An on-demand airport sedan charges a flat C$68.75 to downtown, and an Elly8.net Business Sedan is US$105, fixed and all-in.
Is there a train from Calgary airport to downtown?
No. The airport says there is no dedicated LRT line to YYC. Calgary Transit's Route 500 is an express bus between the airport and downtown via Centre Street, and Route 100 connects to Saddletowne LRT station. The adult cash fare is C$4.00, valid for 90 minutes, from machines at the stops.
Where does an Elly8.net chauffeur meet me at YYC?
Inside arrivals, at the domestic or international terminal depending on your flight, holding a name board. The chauffeur tracks the flight, and complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing, which covers a customs queue and baggage delays. You receive the chauffeur's contact details before you travel.
Can a YYC taxi fit four people and luggage?
The airport says taxis accommodate four or five adults and vans are available for excess luggage. Four adults with large cases or ski bags is usually more comfortable in an Elly8.net Business SUV, which carries six passengers and six bags for US$140 to downtown, with child seats on request.
Is the Elly8.net fare the same to the airport as from it?
Yes. Every Elly8.net airport fare is the same fixed price in either direction, so downtown Calgary to YYC is US$105 in a Business Sedan and US$275 in an Executive Sprinter. The desk times the pickup from your flight and allows for peak traffic and winter road conditions.
What happens if I cancel my YYC booking?
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%. Refunds go to the original card. If a flight is cancelled, contact the desk to move the pickup.
