Uber Black can get guests to a wedding in a good car, and for some journeys on the day it is a sensible choice. What it is not designed to do is wait. An app ride takes you from one address to another and leaves; the waiting rules start after a few minutes, and Uber's hourly option cannot be booked ahead. A wedding is mostly waiting: outside the house while the dress goes on, outside the church through the vows, at the photo location while the light is right.
So the honest answer splits the day in two. Use the app for the simple point-to-point trips, such as a guest's ride home at the end of the night. Book a chauffeur for the trips with a schedule and an audience: the couple's car, the parents, the bridal party and any guest shuttles. This guide explains why, using Uber's own published rules, and puts real numbers on both.
Can you use Uber Black for a wedding?
Yes, for point-to-point rides such as guests travelling home, but it is a poor fit for the couple's car. Uber Black starts wait fees five minutes after arrival, Reserve depends on a driver accepting, and Hourly cannot be scheduled ahead. Cars that must wait, be photographed and run to a timeline are better booked by the hour.
Uber's Uber Black page sets out the rules that matter on a wedding day. A standard Black seats up to four passengers and Black SUV up to six. At a normal pickup there is a five-minute grace period before per-minute wait fees apply, and the driver may charge a cancellation fee if the rider has not boarded within fifteen minutes. That is generous for a dinner pickup and very short for a bride on the front steps with a photographer still working.
What the app can and cannot book ahead
There are two ways to plan an app ride before the day, and both have limits worth reading carefully.
Uber Reserve. According to Uber's Reserve page, you can book up to 90 days ahead in select cities and lock in an upfront price, with a reservation fee included in the estimate. Uber is clear that it does not guarantee a driver will accept the request, that the ride is confirmed once you receive driver details, and that Reserve cancellation fees are higher than on demand. A reserved ride is still a single trip from A to B.
Uber Hourly. Uber's Hourly help page describes a booking for at least an hour with up to two intermediate stops, charged at US$50 an hour before surge plus a per-minute rate after the estimate, and it asks you to confirm with the driver by in-app message that they are willing to drive for the time and stops you want. It also says Hourly is not available for scheduled rides. You cannot reserve it for next Saturday at 1 p.m.
Put together, the app can promise a nice car for a trip; it cannot promise that a specific car will wait outside the venue from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on a date you choose months ahead. That is the job a wedding chauffeur is booked for.
The wedding jobs, one by one
The couple's car. Ceremony arrival, photos, the drive to the reception, and a car ready for the exit. This needs a confirmed vehicle class, a chauffeur who waits as long as the day needs, and a fixed price. Book it by the hour.
Parents and grandparents. Often older relatives with a fixed arrival time, sometimes with a wheelchair or a walking frame. A booked car with door-to-door help is kinder than a kerbside match. Tell the desk about any mobility needs when you book.
The bridal party. Six or seven people, dresses and bouquets, and one schedule. An SUV for up to six passengers, or an Executive Sprinter for up to twelve, keeps the group together.
Guest shuttles. Hotel to ceremony, ceremony to reception, reception back to the hotel. A Sprinter running loops is cheaper per trip than a fleet of separate app rides and does not depend on guests finding drivers in a car park at midnight. Our group transportation page explains how loops are planned.
Guests going home. This is where the app shines. Uber's Toronto Pearson page notes that one account holder can request up to three rides on demand at the same time, each starting before the next is requested. For a few late leavers heading to different addresses, the app is flexible and good value.
Out-of-town guests at the airport. A mixed picture. One guest with a carry-on: the app or the train. A family with car seats landing late: book a car with flight tracking and a meeting inside arrivals.
Real costs: Toronto and Nashville
Elly8.net prices are fixed, all-in and per vehicle. They include the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes and standard gratuity; tolls and parking are billed at cost. Hourly bookings have a three-hour minimum, and the evening package covers five hours.
| Vehicle and booking | Toronto (Elly8 fleet) | Nashville |
|---|---|---|
| First Class Sedan, by the hour | US$180 an hour | US$155 an hour |
| First Class Sedan, 5-hour evening package | US$900 | US$775 |
| Business SUV, 5-hour evening package | US$700 | US$600 |
| Executive Sprinter, by the hour | US$220 an hour | US$190 an hour |
| Full-day chauffeur, Business Sedan, 8 hours | US$810 | US$700 |
Two worked examples, as arithmetic only:
- A Toronto couple's car for five hours in a First Class Sedan, an S-Class or similar, is US$900 on the evening package, the same as five hours at the hourly rate.
- A Nashville guest shuttle in an Executive Sprinter for four hours is four times US$190, or US$760, per vehicle. Divided across twelve seats that is about US$63 a seat, purely as arithmetic for comparison; the price is for the vehicle, not per person.
Prestige cars are priced in the web booker rather than on the city list: the Mercedes-Maybach and Rolls-Royce, both for up to two passengers, the stretch limousine for up to eight and the stretch SUV limousine for up to sixteen. Full price lists are on our Toronto car service and Nashville car service pages.
How the app compares on the same day
There is no fair single number for Uber Black on a wedding day, because its price is set when each trip is requested. Uber's own averages show what a normal trip costs: Black from Toronto to Pearson averaged C$131 over the past month, according to Uber's page. A wedding day is not a normal trip. It is several trips with waiting in between, and if a car must wait between them, each stop either runs the wait-fee meter or becomes a new request.
The comparison that matters is risk rather than price. Uber's averages also describe ordinary trips at ordinary times, and a Saturday evening when several weddings, a concert and a game all finish in the same city is not ordinary. Booking the essential cars in advance takes that variable out of the budget as well as the timeline. If an app ride for a guest going home is late or cancelled, the guest requests another. If the couple's car is late, the ceremony waits. Spend the booked budget on the trips where lateness has a cost, and let the app handle the rest.
Questions to ask before the day
- Who is waiting, and for how long? If the answer is "the car, for hours", book by the hour.
- How many people and what are they carrying? Dresses and bouquets take space. Our sedans carry three passengers; SUVs six; the Executive Sprinter twelve.
- Are there children? Child seats are available on request when you book.
- How long is the drive between venues? Ask the venue, or check a route planner at the same time of day as the wedding. A ceremony and reception forty minutes apart on a Saturday afternoon need a different car plan from two venues on the same street.
- What is the plan B? With a booked car, the desk runs 24/7 and holds the booking details. With an app ride, plan B is another request.
- What does cancelling cost? Ours is fixed: free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours, and 100% within 24 hours or for a no-show.
The chauffeur follows local rules on everything in the vehicle, and on the day the desk adjusts timings if the schedule slips. For more on choosing the car itself, read our guide to Uber Black and Mercedes models, and for what an app reservation does and does not secure, our post on Uber Black reservations.
Guests flying in for the weekend
Weddings bring people through the airport on the Thursday and Friday before, often on late flights, often with children and garment bags. Spread over a weekend, these arrivals are where a little planning saves the couple a stream of phone calls.
For a guest travelling alone with a carry-on, the app or the airport train is the sensible answer, and we would say so. For a family landing late, grandparents who would rather not walk to a garage pickup zone, or a group of cousins on the same flight, a pre-booked car is simpler. The chauffeur tracks the flight and meets them inside arrivals with a name board, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. Our airport transfers and meet and greet pages explain how it works.
The fares are fixed in either direction. From Nashville International to downtown and Broadway it is US$125 in a Business Sedan, US$165 in a Business SUV and US$325 in an Executive Sprinter for up to twelve. From Toronto Pearson to downtown it is US$155, US$205 and US$405. Book each arrival with its own flight number, so each chauffeur tracks the right flight, and share the confirmation emails with the guests so they know the vehicle and the meeting point before they fly.
A wedding day plan that uses both
- Morning: the bridal party's SUV or Sprinter, booked by the hour, collects from the hotel.
- Afternoon: the couple's First Class Sedan or prestige car waits through the ceremony and photos.
- Evening: an Executive Sprinter runs guest loops between the venue and the main hotel.
- Late night: remaining guests use the app to get home, or the Sprinter does a final loop.
Our wedding limousine page covers vehicle choices, and the hourly chauffeur page explains how hourly bookings work. If the wedding is outside town, the city to city car service brings guests in from the nearest airport city.
Rides in Toronto and the GTA are operated by the Elly8 fleet; in every other city, including Nashville, they are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network, with Elly8.net taking the booking, fixing the price and running the 24/7 desk.
Frequently asked questions
Can you book Uber Black for a wedding in advance?
You can reserve a point-to-point Uber Black trip up to 90 days ahead in select cities with Uber Reserve. Uber says the ride is confirmed once you receive driver details and that it does not guarantee a driver will accept. A car that waits for hours is better booked by the hour with a chauffeur.
Can Uber Hourly be used for a wedding?
Uber's Hourly help page says the option is not available for scheduled rides, so you cannot reserve it ahead for the wedding date. It is booked on demand, at US$50 an hour before surge, and you confirm the stops and time with the driver in the app. For a fixed wedding timeline, book a chauffeur.
How much does a wedding car cost with Elly8.net?
Prices are per vehicle. In Toronto, a First Class Sedan is US$180 an hour or US$900 for a five-hour evening package; in Nashville, US$155 an hour or US$775. An Executive Sprinter for up to twelve guests is US$220 an hour in Toronto and US$190 in Nashville, with a three-hour minimum.
Is a stretch limousine or Rolls-Royce available?
Yes, in the fleet list: the Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Maybach for up to two passengers, the stretch limousine for up to eight and the stretch SUV limousine for up to sixteen. These are priced in the web booker; enter the date, times and addresses and you receive a fixed price before paying.
How many guests fit in each vehicle?
Elly8.net sedans carry up to three passengers, the Business and First Class SUVs up to six, the Executive Sprinter up to twelve and the stretch SUV limousine up to sixteen. Uber lists Uber Black at up to four passengers and Black SUV at up to six.
What happens if the wedding runs late?
Tell the chauffeur or the 24/7 desk as early as you can. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost, and the desk can tell you before the evening what that would be. Because the car is booked for you, it stays with you rather than leaving after a short grace period.
