There is no single airport shuttle to the Hamptons. From JFK, the realistic choices are a coach connection, the AirTrain plus the Long Island Rail Road, a taxi at a negotiated price, an app ride, or a pre-booked car. The train is the cheapest for one person with a carry-on: US$8.75 for the AirTrain plus US$28.25 at peak from Jamaica to East Hampton. A private car costs more but is priced for the whole vehicle: JFK to East Hampton with Elly8.net starts at US$585 in a business sedan.
The real difference is not only price. It is the number of changes, the time you spend waiting for the next departure, and what happens to four suitcases and a stroller. This guide compares the options from all three airports that serve the East End, and says plainly when the cheaper option is the right one.
What is the cheapest way from JFK to the Hamptons?
For one traveller with light luggage, the AirTrain (US$8.75) plus the LIRR from Jamaica to East Hampton (US$28.25 peak, US$21.00 off-peak) is the cheapest way, at under US$40. A coach airport connection is the next option. For two or more people with bags, a fixed-price car from US$585 per vehicle often wins on time and comfort.
Those rail numbers come from official sources. The JFK AirTrain page lists US$8.75 per ride to or from Jamaica, and the MTA's LIRR fare tables (effective January 4, 2026) list US$28.25 peak and US$21.00 off-peak one way from Jamaica, fare zone 3, to zone 14, which covers East Hampton. Buy the ticket before boarding: the on-board fare is higher.
What the fare does not show is the timetable. The Montauk Branch has far fewer trains than the lines closer to the city, many East End trips need a change, and summer Friday trains are crowded. Check the MTA's TrainTime schedule against your landing time before you commit, because a missed connection can mean a long wait at Jamaica with your luggage.

Every option from JFK, side by side
The table below compares one trip from JFK to East Hampton. Rail fares are per person; Elly8.net prices are per vehicle, fixed and all-in.
| Option | Price | Waiting and changes | Luggage reality | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AirTrain + LIRR | US$8.75 + US$28.25 peak (US$21.00 off-peak) per person | AirTrain to Jamaica, then the next Montauk Branch train, often a change | What you can carry up stairs and onto two trains | One traveller, carry-on, off-peak |
| Coach airport connection | Published by the operator | Fixed departure times; connection point set by the operator | Under-bus storage, operator's limits | Solo travellers who prefer a seat to the train |
| Taxi from the JFK rank | Negotiated with the driver for Suffolk County | Taxi queue, then the ride | Trunk of one car | Last-minute arrivals with no booking |
| Uber or Lyft | Set by the app at the time of request | Pickup area, then a driver who accepts a long trip | Depends on the car the app sends | Flexible travellers off-peak |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan | US$585 per vehicle | Chauffeur inside arrivals, flight tracked | 3 passengers, 2 large bags | Couples, business travellers |
| Elly8.net Business SUV | US$765 per vehicle | Same | Up to 6 passengers, 6 bags | Families, beach gear, house guests |
| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | US$1,525 per vehicle | Same | Up to 12 passengers, 12 bags | Groups, wedding guests, house parties |
Taxi from JFK. The airport's taxi page is clear that the US$70 flat fare covers JFK to Manhattan only. For Suffolk County, where the Hamptons are, the price is negotiated between passenger and driver at the start of the trip. That is workable if you are good at negotiating after a long flight, but you will not know the number until you are at the rank.
App rides. Uber and Lyft work at JFK, and the airport says prices vary with location and time of day. JFK currently notes that app pickups for Terminals 5 and 7 have moved temporarily to the Howard Beach AirTrain station during construction, so check the ride-share page before you land. A two-hour run east is a long trip for an app driver, and the price you see at 5 pm on a July Friday may not be the price you saw the week before.
Coach. The Hampton Jitney lists airport connections for Islip/MacArthur, JFK and LaGuardia. Fares and the way the connection works are published by the operator. It is a sensible, comfortable option for one person with a bag who is happy to fit the coach schedule.
Wait time: where each option loses the clock
The drive itself is the same for everyone: about 93 miles (150 km) and roughly 2 hours 20 minutes from JFK to East Hampton on a clear road, much longer on a summer Friday afternoon. The differences come before you move.
- Train. AirTrain to Jamaica, then the wait for the next train east, then any change on the way. The wait depends entirely on the timetable, and on summer weekends the trains you want are the ones everyone else wants.
- Coach. You fit the coach schedule and its connection point. If your flight is late, you take the next departure.
- Taxi. The queue at the rank, then the negotiation. On a busy evening, the queue is the longest part.
- App ride. The walk to the pickup area, then the wait for a driver willing to take a long trip.
- Pre-booked car. The chauffeur tracks the flight and meets you inside arrivals with a name board. You get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, so a delayed transatlantic arrival does not cost you the car.
For many families, the hour saved at the airport is worth more than the hour on the road, because it is the hour with tired children and a luggage trolley.
Comfort and luggage: the part the fare does not show
A summer stay in the Hamptons rarely means one carry-on. It means beach bags, a cooler, a golf bag, sometimes a dog crate and a car seat. The train asks you to carry all of it up the stairs at Jamaica and onto a second train. The coach has storage limits set by the operator. A taxi has one trunk.
Our fleet page lists the capacities: a Business Sedan or First Class Sedan for up to 3 passengers and 2 large bags, a Business SUV or First Class SUV for up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, and an Executive Sprinter for up to 12 passengers and 12 bags. Child seats are available on request and are fitted before pickup. That matters for families: you cannot rely on a taxi or an app car to have the right seat for a two-year-old.
The other comfort point is the arrival at the house. The car goes to the door, not to the nearest station. Bridgehampton, Sagaponack and Amagansett addresses can be a long way from a station platform, and village taxis are busy on summer weekends. Read our guide to the chauffeured drive from Manhattan to the Hamptons if you are coming from the city rather than the airport.
MacArthur (ISP): the closer airport
Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma is about 54 miles (86 km) from East Hampton, roughly 87 minutes on a clear road, against 93 miles from JFK. Its official site lists Avelo, Breeze, Cape Air, Frontier, JetBlue and Southwest, with 16 nonstop destinations, and easy access to the LIRR Ronkonkoma station.
The rail link here is less useful than it looks: Ronkonkoma is on the LIRR's Main Line, while Southampton, Bridgehampton and East Hampton are on the Montauk Branch further south. In practice most travellers from ISP to the South Fork use the coach's Islip connection, a taxi, or a car.
With Elly8.net, ISP to East Hampton is fixed at US$405 in a Business Sedan, US$530 in a Business SUV, US$650 in a First Class SUV and US$1,055 in an Executive Sprinter. A round trip starts at US$770. For domestic flights from Florida and the Southeast, flying into ISP and taking a car from there often beats a JFK arrival on total door-to-door time.
East Hampton Airport (HTO): when the car is a 10-minute job
For private flyers, the Town of East Hampton airport is about 4 miles (7 km) from East Hampton village, around 11 minutes on a clear road. Bridgehampton is about 4 miles away, Sag Harbor about 5 and Southampton about 10, measured by road from the airport.
At HTO there is no shuttle question: the alternatives are a local taxi or someone from the house. A pre-booked car is staged where the aircraft parks, subject to airport rules on the day, and the pickup time moves with the actual arrival. HTO to East Hampton is fixed at US$140 in a Business Sedan, US$185 in a Business SUV, US$245 in a First Class Sedan and US$365 in an Executive Sprinter, with round trips from US$270. Our private jet and FBO transfers page explains how to send the tail number and operator details.
The per-person arithmetic for groups
Elly8.net prices are per vehicle, never per person. For a comparison only, here is what the vehicle price works out to when it is shared, against the rail fare from JFK at peak (AirTrain plus LIRR, US$37.00 per person).
| Group | Vehicle | Price per vehicle | Arithmetic per person | Rail per person, peak |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 travellers | Business Sedan | US$585 | about US$293 | US$37.00 |
| 4 travellers | Business SUV | US$765 | about US$191 | US$37.00 |
| 6 travellers | Business SUV | US$765 | about US$128 | US$37.00 |
| 10 travellers | Executive Sprinter | US$1,525 | about US$153 | US$37.00 |
The train stays far cheaper per head. The car is the better buy when the group values the door-to-door time, the luggage, child seats and arriving together at a fixed price, which is why most house parties and wedding groups book a vehicle. For bigger celebrations out east, see our guide to Hamptons party buses and group vehicles.
The fair verdict
Take the train if you are one person with a carry-on, landing at JFK at an off-peak time on a weekday, and happy to read the timetable. At under US$40 it is excellent value.
Take the coach if you prefer a seat with your bag underneath and the operator's airport connection fits your flight.
Take a taxi or an app ride if you land without a plan and need to move now, and you accept that the price is negotiated or set by the app at that moment.
Book a private car for families, groups, heavy luggage, child seats, late-evening landings, business travellers with calls to make, and anyone who wants the price fixed before the flight. Our airport transfers page covers how pickups work, and chauffeur vs airport shuttle compares the two models in general.

Rides in The Hamptons are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Prices include the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and airport meet and greet; tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. Every fare is the same in either direction, so the Sunday run back to JFK costs the same as the Friday arrival. All routes are on the Hamptons car service page and the full prices and packages list. Flying into LaGuardia or Newark instead? Our New York car service page covers the city airports, and Westchester and Greenwich covers HPN.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a shuttle from JFK to the Hamptons?
Not run by the airport. The Hampton Jitney lists airport connections for JFK, LaGuardia and Islip/MacArthur, with fares published by the operator. JFK itself lists authorised shared-van operators and the AirTrain to Jamaica, where you can connect to the LIRR. For a door-to-door ride, a pre-booked car from US$585 per vehicle is the alternative.
How much is a taxi from JFK to the Hamptons?
There is no flat fare. JFK's official taxi information says that for trips to Suffolk County the price is negotiated between the passenger and the driver at the start of the trip. Agree the number before you leave the rank, and ask whether tolls are included.
How long does the train take from JFK to East Hampton?
It depends on the timetable rather than the distance. You take the AirTrain to Jamaica, then a Montauk Branch train, often with a change. Trains east are less frequent than on lines closer to the city, so check the MTA's schedule for your landing time before you choose the train.
Is a private car worth it for two people?
On price per head, no: the train costs US$37.00 each at peak against about US$293 each as arithmetic for a US$585 sedan. It is worth it when you have heavy luggage, a late arrival, a tight schedule or simply want to go door to door without changes. Many couples take the train out and book the car for the return with bags.
What if my flight into JFK is delayed?
The chauffeur tracks the flight, so the pickup moves with the actual landing. You get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, and the price does not change. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost, and the desk tells you before that happens.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
Yes. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours, and the full fare within 24 hours or for a no-show. Refunds go back to the original card. The full cancellation policy is on the site.
