Taking an Uber from Nashville airport is often a perfectly good choice, and sometimes it is the wrong one. Rideshare fares from BNA are set by the app at the moment you request a ride, so the same 8-mile (14 km) trip to downtown can cost very different amounts on a Tuesday lunchtime and a Friday evening. A pre-booked car on Elly8.net is fixed in advance, from US$125 in a business sedan to US$325 in a 12-seat Executive Sprinter, and the WeGo Route 18 bus costs US$2.
This post compares the four options on price, time, luggage and reliability, using published figures where they exist, then gives a plain verdict for common situations. Rideshare companies do not publish fixed airport fares, so we describe how their pricing behaves rather than inventing a number. Rides in Nashville booked through Elly8.net are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
Is Uber or a private car better from Nashville airport?
For one or two people with light bags at a quiet time, rideshare or the US$2 WeGo bus is usually cheaper. For groups, families needing child seats, late or delayed flights, Friday evenings, event weekends and business travellers who need a receipt-ready fixed price, a pre-booked car from US$125 is the more reliable choice and often good value per person.
The answer turns on four variables: when you land, how many of you there are, how much luggage you carry, and how much a delay would cost you. The sections below take each in turn.
How each option is priced
Rideshare (Uber, Lyft, premium tiers such as Uber Black). The price is quoted in the app when you request, based on demand at that moment. When many people request rides at once, for example when several flights land together on a Friday evening, or when a concert ends downtown, prices rise. The quote is not available in advance in a way that guarantees the same price on the day.
Taxi. Taxis wait at the airport's taxi stand, signed from baggage claim. Taxi fares in Nashville are set locally, not by an app, and you pay the driver at the end. Confirm the fare with the driver before you set off. There is no surge, but there is also no meet and greet, no flight tracking and no guarantee of vehicle size.
WeGo Route 18 bus. The cheapest option by far. According to WeGo Public Transit, Route 18 runs between BNA and the Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central downtown, boarding at the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of the Terminal 2 Garage. The adult fare is US$2, a two-hour pass with a QuickTicket or contactless payment, per WeGo's fare information. WeGo says express trips take about 20 minutes and local trips 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic, and luggage is allowed.
Pre-booked car (Elly8.net). A fixed price per vehicle, set when you book and paid in advance, including the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. Traffic, demand and the time of day do not change the price.
Side by side: BNA to downtown and Broadway
| Option | Price | Time to downtown | Luggage and seats | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WeGo Route 18 bus | US$2 per adult | about 20 min express, 35 to 45 min local, plus the walk from WeGo Central | Luggage allowed; shared bus | One traveller, light bags, staying near WeGo Central |
| Taxi | Set locally; confirm with the driver | about 16 min on a clear road | Usually up to four, limited bag space | Walk-up trips when you did not pre-book |
| Uber or Lyft | Set by the app at request; rises with demand | Wait for a match, then about 16 min clear road | Standard rides usually seat four; larger tiers cost more and vary | Off-peak solo or couple trips |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan | US$125 fixed | about 16 min clear road, chauffeur waiting on arrival | Up to 3 passengers, 2 bags | Late flights, business travellers, fixed budgets |
| Elly8.net Business SUV | US$165 fixed | about 16 min clear road | Up to 6 passengers, 6 bags | Families, child seats, golf bags |
| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | US$325 fixed | about 16 min clear road | Up to 12 passengers, 12 bags | Bachelorette and group arrivals |
The clear-road drive from BNA to downtown and Broadway is about 16 minutes for the 8 miles (14 km). Weekday rush hours, Friday evenings and event nights can stretch any road option.

Where rideshare struggles at BNA
Rideshare is designed for spontaneous trips, which is its strength. At a busy airport it runs into a few predictable problems.
- Demand spikes. Weekend groups tend to fly in on Thursday and Friday afternoons and evenings. When demand jumps, so do app prices, and waits for a match can lengthen.
- The pickup walk. App rides use the airport's designated rideshare pickup area, so you find it, wait at the curb and look for the right car. Check BNA's website for current arrangements, because curbs change during construction.
- Vehicle size. A group of eight with bags does not fit in one standard app ride. Two or three cars mean two or three fares, and the group arrives in pieces.
- Child seats. They are not standard in app rides. Families either bring their own or look for a different option.
- Delays. If your flight is two hours late, there is no driver waiting; you request when you land and take the price at that moment.
None of this makes rideshare a bad choice. It simply means its value depends on timing and group size more than any other option.
Where a pre-booked car struggles
To be fair, a pre-booked car has its own drawbacks.
- It costs more for one person at a quiet time. A solo traveller with a carry-on, landing at midday, will usually pay less by bus, taxi or app.
- It needs a little planning. You book with a flight number, passenger count and bags, ideally well ahead.
- It is not spontaneous. If your plans change at the last minute, the cancellation terms apply: free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, refunded to the original card.
Verdicts by situation
One traveller, carry-on, midday, staying downtown. Take the WeGo bus or an app ride. The bus is US$2; the app is quick off-peak. A private car is a luxury here, not a necessity.
A couple landing at 6 pm on a Friday. This is where app prices are most likely to rise and waits to lengthen. A business sedan at US$125, with gratuity included and a chauffeur in baggage claim, is a fixed number you know in advance.
A family of five with two car seats and a stroller. A Business SUV at US$165 seats six with six bags and carries child seats on request. An app ride would mean two cars and your own seats.
Ten friends on a bachelorette weekend. One Executive Sprinter at US$325 is about US$33 each, with every bag in one van and the group arriving together. Three app rides would split the group and the luggage.
An executive with a meeting at 3 pm. A First Class sedan at US$220, or a business sedan at US$125, tracked to the flight and billed to a corporate account. The value is in certainty, not the fare. See our Nashville executive car service guide.
Landing at midnight after a delay. The chauffeur has followed the tracked flight and is waiting, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. App availability at that hour varies.
What about Uber Black?
Premium app tiers such as Uber Black put you in a nicer car, but the price is still set at request and still moves with demand, and the experience is a curbside pickup rather than a meeting in baggage claim. A pre-booked First Class sedan or SUV gives a similar car with a fixed price, flight tracking and meet and greet. Our Uber Black vs a pre-booked chauffeur comparison covers the differences in detail, and chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft looks at standard tiers.
Event weekends change everything
On the busiest Nashville weekends, the calculation shifts firmly towards pre-booking. CMA Fest, set for June 10 to 13, 2027, according to CMA Fest, fills hotels and brings stadium crowds to the East Bank every night; big conventions at Music City Center and arena shows on Broadway do the same on a smaller scale. On those dates, app demand and prices rise across the city, and the airport is no exception. Book your arrival and departure early, and consider an hourly booking or the five-hour event night package, from US$475, for the show itself.
The return trip to BNA
The same logic applies in reverse. A Sunday afternoon, when weekend groups head home together, is a common time for app prices to rise. A round trip booked with your arrival costs from US$240 in a business sedan to US$620 in the Sprinter, slightly less than two one-way fares, and the pickup time is fixed in advance. For more on the airport routine itself, read our BNA car service walkthrough, and for a closer look at taxis in particular, our guide to when a taxi from BNA is the right call.

Frequently asked questions
How much is an Uber from Nashville airport to downtown?
Rideshare apps do not publish fixed airport fares. The price is quoted at the moment you request and rises when demand is high, such as Friday evenings and event weekends. For comparison, an Elly8.net business sedan is a fixed US$125 and the WeGo Route 18 bus is US$2.
Where do rideshare pickups happen at BNA?
At the airport's designated rideshare pickup area, signed from baggage claim. Arrangements can change during construction, so check BNA's own website before you travel. With a pre-booked car, the chauffeur meets you in baggage claim with a name board and walks you to the vehicle.
Is the WeGo bus a good way to get from BNA to downtown?
For one traveller with manageable bags heading to downtown, yes. Route 18 costs US$2 and boards at the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of the Terminal 2 Garage; WeGo says express trips take about 20 minutes. It is less practical for groups, families with child seats or late-night arrivals.
Is a private car worth it for a group?
Usually. An Executive Sprinter from BNA to downtown is US$325 for up to 12 people and 12 bags, about US$33 each for ten, and the group arrives together. Several app rides at peak times can cost more in total and split the group and its luggage.
What happens if my flight is late with a pre-booked car?
The chauffeur tracks your flight, so the pickup follows the real landing time, and you receive complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. There is no need to rebook or call. If your flight is cancelled and you are moved to another, send the new flight number to the desk.
Do rideshares from BNA provide child seats?
Child seats are not standard in app rides, so families usually bring their own. Elly8.net provides child seats on request; add the ages or weights of the children to the booking notes and the desk confirms the seats before your trip.
