Uber Black cost is not published as a rate card. When you choose Uber Black in the app, you see an upfront price for that trip at that moment, and it reflects the distance, the expected time on the road, the premium tier itself and how busy the city is. Accept it and the price normally holds unless the trip changes. Ask again twenty minutes later, after a concert lets out, and it may be quite different.
A pre-booked chauffeur works the other way round: the price is fixed per vehicle when you reserve, all-in, days or weeks before you travel. This guide takes the Uber Black fare apart, piece by piece, using what the airports and transport regulators actually publish. It uses Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle as worked examples, because their airports publish clear rules for premium app rides, and it is fair about the cases where Uber Black is the better buy.
How much does Uber Black cost?
Uber Black has no fixed price list. The app quotes an upfront fare when you request, based on distance, expected time, the premium tier and demand, so the same airport run can cost noticeably more at peak times. For comparison, an Elly8.net business sedan from LAX to Beverly Hills is a fixed US$170, all-in, booked ahead.
That answer is unsatisfying if you want a single number, but it is the accurate one. What you can control is the comparison: check the upfront quote against the published taxi meter, the airport train and a fixed price, and decide which risk you prefer, a price that might be lower on the day or a price that cannot move.

The Uber Black fare, piece by piece
Think of the quote as five layers stacked on top of each other.
1. Distance and time. The core of any app fare is how far you go and how long it is expected to take. A traffic jam on the 405 shows up in the estimate before you accept.
2. The tier premium. Uber Black is a premium tier built around black sedans, and Uber Black SUV is the larger version. Both cost more than the standard tier for the same trip, and the SUV costs more than the sedan.
3. Demand. When many people request rides at once, the price rises. This is the layer that makes the same trip cost different amounts on a Tuesday afternoon and a Saturday night.
4. Tolls and local charges. Where a route uses a toll road or a place charges a fee, the app shows it in the fare breakdown. Check the breakdown before you accept, not after.
5. The tip. App fares do not include a tip; the app offers you the option to add one after the ride. The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission makes the same point on its fare page: app quotes should include all charges, and each app has an option to tip the driver.
Waiting and cancellation are governed by the app's own terms, which can change, so read them in the app rather than relying on what a friend paid last year.
What the premium actually buys at the airport
Here is the part of the Uber Black story that is often missed, and it is in Uber Black's favour. At several large airports, premium app rides pick up closer to the terminal than standard app rides do.
- LAX. Standard app rides and most taxis are collected at LAX-it, reached by a free shuttle from the arrivals level. Los Angeles World Airports states on its LAX-it page that Uber Black and Uber Black SUV pick up directly from the terminal on the upper arrivals level instead.
- SFO. Standard app pickups for the domestic terminals are on Level 5 of the Domestic Garage. Uber Black and Black SUV pick up at the Arrivals Level of the domestic terminals at named doors, according to SFO's ride-app page.
- SEA. At Seattle-Tacoma, standard app rides pick up on the third floor of the parking garage, while premium rides like Uber Black meet at the baggage-claim-level door the passenger selects, according to the Port of Seattle.
So part of what you pay for with Uber Black is a shorter walk. A pre-booked chauffeur goes one step further: the chauffeur meets you inside arrivals with a name board, the flight is tracked, and complimentary waiting after a tracked landing is included, so you do not open an app at all.
Three airport routes, side by side
The table sets the published options next to each other. Uber Black has no published price, so the column describes how it is priced rather than inventing a number.
| Route | Train or bus (official fare) | Taxi (official rule) | Uber Black | Elly8.net fixed price, per vehicle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LAX to Beverly Hills, about 12 mi (20 km) | Metro rail US$1.75 regular fare, with a connection to the terminals | Metered | Upfront at request, terminal pickup on the upper level | US$170 business sedan to US$445 Executive Sprinter |
| SFO to Union Square, about 15 mi (24 km) | BART US$11.80 adult fare to Powell or Montgomery | Meter US$4.15 first fifth of a mile, US$0.65 each further fifth and per minute of delay, plus US$6 SFO pickup fee | Upfront at request, Arrivals Level pickup | US$180 business sedan to US$470 Executive Sprinter |
| SEA to downtown Seattle, about 15 mi (24 km) | Link light rail US$3.00 adult fare | Metered, US$20 minimum from the airport | Upfront at request, baggage-claim door pickup | US$170 business sedan to US$445 Executive Sprinter |
Sources: LA Metro fares, BART at SFO, the SFMTA taxi fare schedule, Sound Transit fares and the Port of Seattle taxi page. On distance alone, the SFMTA meter puts a 15-mile run at about US$52 before the airport fee, slow-traffic minutes and a tip.
The fixed prices come from the Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle city pages, where every vehicle class is listed.
Where the cost of Uber Black can surprise you
The upfront quote removes meter anxiety for the trip you accept. It does not remove three other uncertainties.
The quote on the night is not the quote you saw last week. If you checked a price for Friday's airport run on Monday, that number is not reserved. The fare you get is the fare at the moment you request.
Groups need a bigger tier, or two cars. A family of five with luggage is usually an SUV fare rather than a sedan fare, and a team of eight is likely to need two vehicles. An Elly8.net Executive Sprinter seats 12 with 12 bags for one fixed price.
The tip is on top. The comparison with a chauffeur should add the tip to the Uber Black quote, because Elly8.net prices already include standard gratuity. Our tipping guide covers what is customary.
To be fair in the other direction: tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost on an Elly8.net booking too, so a toll road costs money either way.
A worked evening in Los Angeles
Airport runs are only half of the Uber Black question. The other half is the evening out, where the app is used two or three times in one night.
Picture four friends staying in Beverly Hills with dinner in West Hollywood and a concert downtown. With an app, that is three separate requests: hotel to dinner, dinner to the venue, venue back to the hotel. The first two are usually at ordinary times. The third is at the exact moment several thousand other people leave the same building and open the same app, which is the demand layer at its worst, and the pickup is wherever the venue and the city allow app cars to stop that night.
The fixed alternative is a single booking. On the Los Angeles price list, the evening out and event night package is five hours with the car waiting for the way home: US$525 in a business sedan, US$675 in a Business SUV that seats six, and US$800 in a First Class SUV. The chauffeur drops at the door, waits, and the desk agrees a pickup point outside any closed streets before the show ends. Standard gratuity is included.
Which is cheaper depends on the night. If the three app quotes are moderate and nobody minds the wait after the show, the app wins on price. If the last quote of the night doubles, or the group is six and needs an SUV each time, the single fixed booking can come out level or ahead, and it removes the hunt for a car at midnight. Our hourly chauffeur service page explains how the time works.
When Uber Black is the right purchase
- You need a premium car now, not at a time you could plan in advance.
- You are a small party with light luggage, and the quote on screen is reasonable.
- You are at LAX, SFO or SEA and value the terminal pickup over the LAX-it shuttle or the garage walk.
- The trip is short, inside a city, at an ordinary time.
- Your plans are fluid, such as a dinner with no fixed end.
In those cases, Uber Black is a good product and we would not try to talk you out of it.
When a fixed price is the better value
- The arrival time is uncertain. A delayed flight changes nothing on a flight-tracked booking.
- It is a peak moment. Friday evening airport banks, conventions and game nights are when demand pricing does the most damage.
- You need more than an SUV. Sprinters, multiple coordinated vehicles and child seats on request are booked ahead.
- Someone else is paying. A corporate account with monthly invoicing gives finance one fixed figure per ride.
- You want to be met inside. Meet and greet with a name board is standard on Elly8.net airport pickups.
We go through these trade-offs scenario by scenario in is Uber Black worth it?, and the longer category comparison is on Uber Black vs a pre-booked chauffeur.
How to compare a quote with a fixed price in two minutes
- Open the app and note the Uber Black upfront quote, and the Uber Black SUV quote if you are more than four.
- Add the tip you would normally give.
- Check the fare breakdown for tolls.
- Compare the total with the Elly8.net fixed price for the same vehicle size, which already includes gratuity.
- Ask yourself whether the quote will still be that number when you actually need the car.

How booking works
Enter the pickup and drop-off, with your flight number for an airport pickup, choose the vehicle, and reserve. Confirmation arrives by email. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 72 hours or less costs 10%; 48 hours or less 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%. In Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, rides are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Frequently asked questions
How much does Uber Black cost from LAX?
Uber Black does not publish a fixed fare for any route. The app quotes an upfront price when you request, and it changes with traffic and demand. Uber Black picks up directly at the terminal on the upper arrivals level, not at LAX-it. An Elly8.net business sedan from LAX to Beverly Hills is a fixed US$170, all-in.
Why does Uber Black cost more at certain times?
The fare includes a demand layer. When many people request rides at once, after a game, during a storm or when several long-haul flights land together, the upfront price rises. Distance and expected time on the road also feed into the quote, so heavy traffic adds to it before you accept.
Is a tip included in the Uber Black price?
No. App fares do not include a tip, and the app gives you the option to add one after the ride. Elly8.net prices include standard gratuity, along with taxes, the chauffeur, the vehicle and airport meet and greet, so add the tip to the Uber Black quote when you compare.
How many people fit in Uber Black?
Uber Black is a premium sedan tier and Uber Black SUV is the larger option; the app shows the seat count for each tier when you request. Elly8.net business and first class sedans seat three with two bags, SUVs seat six with six bags, and an Executive Sprinter seats 12 with 12 bags for one fixed price.
Can you lock in an Uber Black price in advance?
A price you see today is not reserved for a later trip; the fare is set when you request. A pre-booked Elly8.net car is fixed when you reserve, does not change with demand or a flight delay, and is the same price to or from the airport.
