A car service from SFO to Napa with Elly8.net is a fixed, all-in fare from US$390 in a Business Sedan to US$1,015 in a 12-seat Executive Sprinter, for the roughly 59 miles (94 km) from the terminal to downtown Napa. The price includes the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet inside arrivals, and it is the same in either direction.
The drive is about 81 minutes on a clear road and considerably longer in Bay Area traffic, so the details matter more than on a short city transfer: where you meet the chauffeur, which bridge the car takes, how much room the wine needs on the way back. This guide goes through the trip step by step.

Step one: before you fly
Give the desk four things when you book, and the transfer runs itself:
- The flight number. The chauffeur tracks it, so an early or late landing changes the pickup time automatically.
- The exact Napa address. A downtown hotel, a Yountville inn and a hillside rental with a gate code are three different drives.
- Luggage and passengers. Golf bags, a stroller or several large cases may mean an SUV rather than a sedan.
- Child seats, with the children's ages. They are installed before pickup, on request.
If you already have a winery appointment on arrival day, tell us. A late-morning landing can sometimes be combined with a first tasting on the way, booked by the hour instead of as a transfer.
Step two: landing and meeting the chauffeur
SFO does not allow vehicles to wait at the curb, which is why a pre-booked chauffeur meets you inside. The airport's meeting points page sets out the signed meeting points by terminal: for example, the Departures/Ticketing level near the exits for Terminal 1's C Gates and Terminal 2, the Arrivals/Baggage Claim level between carousels 3 and 4 in Terminal 3, and the US Customs and Immigration exit in the International Terminal, where there is a signed Meeting Point in the lobby.
Your chauffeur's details arrive before you fly. On landing, the chauffeur waits with a name board, helps with bags and walks you to the car. Complimentary waiting starts after a tracked landing, so a long Customs queue after an overseas flight does not become a problem. Our meet and greet page explains the process in more detail.
Step three: the route north
There are two sensible ways from SFO to Napa, and the chauffeur chooses on the day according to traffic.
Through San Francisco and over the Golden Gate. US-101 north through the city, across the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin, then east on State Route 37 and up through Carneros to Napa. It is the scenic route, and northbound it costs nothing at the bridge: the Golden Gate Bridge district collects tolls in one direction only, southbound into San Francisco.
Over the Bay Bridge and through Vallejo. I-80 east across the Bay Bridge, north through the East Bay, then west on Route 37 and north on Highway 29 into Napa. The Bay Bridge charges westbound only, according to FasTrak, so the northbound trip is toll-free here too.
In short, the trip to Napa usually carries no bridge toll, and the return trip to SFO usually carries one, billed at cost on the return fare.
How long it really takes
The fact sheet distance is about 59 miles (94 km), around 81 minutes on a clear road. Visit Napa Valley's airports guide puts the trip at about 1½ to 3 hours depending on traffic, which matches what the desk sees. Friday afternoons leaving the city, Sunday evenings returning, and weekday rush hours on US-101 and I-80 are the slow windows. A late-morning landing midweek is about as good as it gets. Summer weekends and the harvest months, from late summer into autumn, add visitor traffic on Highway 29 itself, so the last few miles into the valley can be slower than the motorway section.
Step four: arriving in the valley
Downtown Napa is the priced destination. Up-valley addresses add distance on Highway 29 or the Silverado Trail: Yountville is roughly 9 miles (14 km) beyond downtown, St. Helena about 18 miles (29 km), and Calistoga about 27 miles (43 km), all approximate road distances. The web booker prices the exact address.
Many visitors land around midday and go straight to check-in. If your room is not ready, a chauffeur booked by the hour can turn the gap into lunch in downtown Napa or Yountville. Hourly service runs from US$100 an hour in a Business Sedan, with a 3-hour minimum, through our hourly chauffeur service.
Going back: Napa to SFO
The return fare is the same fixed price: US$390 in a Business Sedan from downtown Napa to SFO. For a domestic flight, allow the drive time above plus the airport's recommended check-in time, and set the pickup earlier on Friday and Sunday afternoons. For an international departure, allow more. The chauffeur drops at the departures level of your terminal.
Two things to plan for on the way home: wine and tolls. Bottles bought at tastings take space, and a case of wine is roughly the size of a carry-on. A Business Sedan suits a couple with two cases and their luggage; a family with several cases should book an SUV. The return crosses the Bay Bridge westbound or the Golden Gate southbound, so one bridge toll is added at cost.
The alternatives, honestly
| Option | What it costs | What works | What does not |
|---|---|---|---|
| San Francisco taxi | metered; about US$300 on distance alone, before traffic time and tip | no booking needed | 150% of the meter beyond 15 miles; traffic minutes add up |
| Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) | set by the app at request | on demand, door to door | price moves with demand; long rides out of the city vary |
| Scheduled Napa airporter | operator's fare per seat | cheaper for one or two | set departures, shared stops, no waiting for delays |
| BART plus VINE Route 29 bus | BART fare plus US$6 on Route 29 | the lowest cost | two vehicles, weekdays and Saturdays only, luggage is hard |
| Elly8.net Business Sedan | US$390 fixed, all-in | meet and greet, any hour, door to door | more than a single seat on a shuttle |
Taxi. San Francisco taxis run on a meter of US$4.15 for the first fifth of a mile and US$0.65 for each additional fifth, plus US$0.65 a minute in traffic, and SFO adds a US$6 pickup surcharge. For trips more than 15 miles from SFO that do not end in the city, the fare is 150% of the meter, according to SFMTA. Applied to 59 miles, that is roughly US$300 before traffic minutes and a tip. That is arithmetic from the published rate, not a quote, and a heavy-traffic trip will cost more.
Rideshare prices from SFO to Napa are not published. App pickups at the domestic terminals are on Level 5 of the Domestic Garage, per SFO's rideshare page, and on the Departures level centre islands at the International Terminal.
Shared airporter. SFO's charter listings include a Napa airporter operator, and pre-arranged charters pick up in the courtyards on the Arrivals level. For a solo traveller whose landing fits the timetable, that can be the cheapest door-adjacent option.
Public transit. BART to El Cerrito del Norte, then VINE Route 29, the Napa-BART Express, which runs weekdays and Saturdays for a US$6 fare, according to VINE Transit. It works for a light traveller with time; with luggage after a long flight, it is a long afternoon. Our Napa airport shuttle vs private car guide covers every shared and public option in detail.
Groups, families and weddings
The Executive Sprinter changes the arithmetic for groups. At US$1,015 for the vehicle, ten people travelling together works out at about US$102 each and twelve at about US$85 each; that is arithmetic for comparison only, since the fare is per vehicle. The group arrives together with up to 12 bags, which matters for a wedding weekend or a corporate offsite. We can run several vehicles on one schedule for guests landing at different times; see wedding limousine and guest shuttles and group transportation.
Which airport is best for Napa?
SFO has the most flights and almost all the long-haul ones. If your itinerary allows, Oakland is slightly closer at about 51 miles (82 km), from US$360, and Sonoma County Airport (STS) closer still at about 45 miles (73 km), from US$335. Frequently asked questions
How long is the drive from SFO to Napa?
About 59 miles (94 km), roughly 81 minutes on a clear road. Visit Napa Valley estimates 1½ to 3 hours depending on traffic. Friday afternoons out of the city and Sunday evenings back are the slowest. The chauffeur tracks your flight and chooses the Golden Gate or Bay Bridge route on the day.
Is the SFO to Napa price the same in both directions?
Yes. The fixed fare is identical from SFO to downtown Napa and from downtown Napa to SFO, from US$390 in a Business Sedan to US$1,015 in an Executive Sprinter. The return trip usually crosses one toll bridge, and that toll is billed at cost.
Where does the chauffeur meet arrivals at SFO?
Inside the terminal at the airport's signed meeting point, with a name board. For international arrivals that is the US Customs and Immigration exit in the International Terminal lobby. SFO does not allow vehicles to wait at the curb, so the chauffeur walks you to the car.
Is a taxi from SFO to Napa cheaper?
Possibly, but not by as much as many expect. San Francisco taxis charge 150% of the meter for trips more than 15 miles from SFO that end outside the city, which comes to roughly US$300 for Napa on distance alone, before traffic minutes and a tip. The Elly8.net fare is fixed and includes gratuity.
Can we stop for lunch or a winery on the way?
Yes, but book it as hourly service or a multi-stop trip rather than a straight transfer, because the fixed fare covers the direct drive. Hourly service is from US$100 an hour in a Business Sedan with a 3-hour minimum. Tell the desk the stops when booking and the web booker prices the full day.
What happens if the flight is cancelled or rebooked?
Tell the desk the new flight and the booking moves with it whenever a vehicle is available. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 72 hours or less is 10%, 48 hours or less 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, refunded to the original card.
