By private car, Prague Airport to the city center is about 17 km (11 mi) and about 33 minutes on a clear road to the Old Town, on our routing; at weekday rush hours, and while the airport's approach road is under reconstruction, allow 45 minutes or more. An Elly8.net transfer from Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) to the Old Town is fixed at US$95 in a business sedan, US$125 in a business SUV and up to US$250 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, with the chauffeur waiting inside arrivals.
Rides in Prague are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. This guide is about the car itself: the drive to each part of the city, how traffic and the historic centre affect it, how to add a stop on the way, and how to choose the vehicle and the fare.
How long does it take to drive from Prague Airport to the city center?
About 33 minutes on a clear road to the Old Town for roughly 17 km (11 mi), on our routing. The Castle and the Lesser Town are slightly closer by road, Wenceslas Square and the main railway station slightly further. Weekday peaks and the reconstruction of the Aviatická intersection near the airport can add 15 minutes or more.
The fixed fare does not change with the traffic. The clock does, so for departures we plan the pickup time around the worst case rather than the clear-road estimate.
Drive times from the airport to each district
The airport sits west of the city centre, so the Castle and the Lesser Town, on the west bank of the Vltava, come slightly before the Old Town. Here are our routed estimates on a clear road from the airport to the main hotel districts.
| Destination | Routed distance | Clear-road drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lesser Town (Malá Strana) | about 16 km / 10 mi | about 31 min | Cobbled lanes below the Castle |
| Prague Castle area | about 17 km / 10 mi | about 32 min | Drop at a permitted point near the Castle |
| Old Town (Staré Město) | about 17 km / 11 mi | about 33 min | The published fare is calculated here |
| Wenceslas Square, New Town | about 18 km / 11 mi | about 34 min | Large international hotels |
| Main Railway Station (Praha hl.n.) | about 19 km / 12 mi | about 35 min | For onward trains |
| O2 arena | about 23 km / 14 mi | about 38 min | Concerts and sport |
These are estimates from the public OSRM routing service, not promises. The published Elly8.net fare applies to the Old Town; for other addresses, enter them in the web booker for a fixed quote before you pay.
What slows the drive down
Rush hours. Weekday mornings and late afternoons slow the approach roads into Prague, as in any capital.
The Aviatická works. Prague Airport currently warns that the reconstruction of the Aviatická intersection means traffic restrictions and longer travel times at rush hour, and advises leaving for the airport well in advance.
The historic centre. The last kilometre is often the slowest. Many Old Town lanes are narrow or one-way, and some hotels cannot be reached by car at all for the final stretch. The chauffeur drives to your hotel's entrance where vehicles are allowed, or to the nearest point a car may stop, and helps with the bags. Tell us the hotel name when you book, and the desk confirms the drop-off point in advance.
Event and market evenings. During the Christmas markets on Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, from 28 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, the squares and nearby lanes are full every evening, and the drop-off may move to the edge of the Old Town.
Meeting the chauffeur at the airport
Prague has two terminals. Terminal 1 serves flights from outside the Schengen area, including the US, Canada and the UK, and Terminal 2 serves flights within it, according to Prague Integrated Transport. If you connect through a European hub such as Frankfurt or Amsterdam, you land at Terminal 2.
Give us your flight number when you book. The chauffeur tracks the landing, waits in the arrivals hall of the right terminal with a name board, and walks you to the car with the bags. Complimentary waiting after a tracked landing covers a slow passport queue after a transatlantic flight or a late bag at reclaim. Your confirmation email shows the meeting point and the chauffeur's contact details. Read more on airport transfers and meet and greet.
Adding a stop on the way in
A transfer is designed to go straight from the airport to your hotel. If you want to stop, there are two ways to book it.
A short stop on the route. Collecting a colleague at another hotel, dropping one family member at a different address, or a quick stop on the way can be added as a multi-stop transfer in the web booker, with the price fixed before you pay. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost.
A sightseeing stop with your luggage in the car. Arrival day is often the only time you have a car and a chauffeur together, and the Castle is close to the route in. Prague Castle asks visitors not to bring large baggage into the Castle area, so a car that waits with the suitcases is the natural way to fit in a first look before check-in. For that, book by the hour rather than as a transfer: Prague car service by the hour costs US$85 an hour in a business sedan, US$110 in a business SUV and US$170 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. Three hours in a business sedan comes to US$255.
The hourly option works just as well on departure day, for a late flight: check out, see one last sight, and go straight to the airport. See hourly chauffeur service.
What the transfer costs, and which vehicle to choose
All Elly8.net fares are fixed per vehicle and the same in either direction, airport to city or city to airport. They include the chauffeur, vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet; parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost.
| Vehicle | Seats / bags | Airport to Old Town | Round trip | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | 3 / 2 | US$95 | US$185 | One to three travellers, two bags |
| Business SUV | 6 / 6 | US$125 | US$240 | Families with full luggage |
| First Class SUV | 6 / 6 | US$155 | US$295 | Families or executives wanting more space |
| First Class Sedan | 3 / 2 | US$170 | US$325 | Executives and special arrivals |
| Executive Sprinter | 12 / 12 | US$250 | US$475 | Groups, wedding parties, teams |
Bags decide the class more often than people do. A sedan carries two bags. A couple with two large cases each needs a Business SUV, not a sedan. A family of four with four cases, a stroller and a car seat fits a Business SUV comfortably.
Groups. An Executive Sprinter carries twelve people and twelve bags. For ten travellers, US$250 works out at US$25 each, for comparison only; the price is charged per vehicle.
Round trips. Booking the return at the same time costs from US$185 in a business sedan, slightly less than two single transfers.
How it compares with the alternatives
The private car is not the only good option, and it is not the cheapest for one person.
| Option | Price | Door to door? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bus 59 plus metro A | CZK 50 on a 90-minute ticket (CZK 46 in the app) | No, a change to the metro | One traveller, light bag |
| Airport Express (AE) to the Main Railway Station | CZK 200 | No | Hotels near the main station |
| Uber Airport, the airport's official taxi | Shown in the app before you confirm | Yes, from the pickup point outside | One or two people, short notice |
| Elly8.net private car | From US$95 per vehicle, fixed | Yes, met inside arrivals | Families, groups, Old Town hotels, late arrivals |
Public transport fares and times are from PID. For a step-by-step guide to ordering at the kiosks and counters, see Uber at Prague Airport, and for app rides around the city, Uber in Prague.
Our honest view: if you are one person with a carry-on, staying near a metro station, take bus 59 and the metro. If you are a family, a group or arriving late with luggage, or staying in the Old Town lanes, the fixed car saves the most effort. Our chauffeur vs taxi comparison covers the same choice in other cities.
Families, older travellers and first-time visitors
Children. Ask for child or booster seats when you book and give the children's ages; the partner fits them before pickup, so the car is ready when you come out of arrivals. That saves carrying seats across the Atlantic and fitting them in a rush at the kerb.
Older travellers. Be fair to public transport here: PID says passengers aged 65 and over travel free in Prague with an ID showing their date of birth, and children under 10 travel free too. For a fit couple travelling light, that is hard to argue with. Where the car helps is the walking: the change from bus to metro, the escalators, and the final stretch over cobbles to an Old Town hotel.
First time in Prague. On a first visit, the drive in is also an introduction. Ask the chauffeur to take you past the river on the way to the hotel if traffic allows; on a straight transfer the route is the chauffeur's call, so for a deliberate detour book the hourly option.
Arriving tired. Overnight flights from North America usually land in the morning, long before hotel check-in. If your room will not be ready, ask the hotel to hold the bags, or book three hours by the hour and spend the morning with the car before checking in.
Going back to the airport
For the return, the same fixed fare applies: from US$95 in a business sedan. Plan the pickup around the slow case, not the clear road.
- Long-haul flights: our desk usually suggests leaving the Old Town about three hours before departure, more on a weekday morning or with a group.
- European flights within Schengen: allow at least two hours before departure, more at peak times.
- Tell us the airline and flight number so the chauffeur drops you at the right terminal.
The airport's own advice, while the Aviatická works continue, is to leave well in advance at rush hour.
Late arrivals and early departures
Prague's night buses 907 and 910 run from Terminal 2, according to PID, and taxis are available around the clock. A pre-booked car simply runs to your flight time, whether that is a delayed arrival at 1 am or a 5 am departure for a first-wave flight. Flight tracking means a late landing does not cost you the car.
For business arrivals, a corporate account adds monthly invoicing and the same fixed fares for every traveller, and for private aviation, see private jet and FBO transfers.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the drive from Prague Airport to the Old Town?
About 33 minutes on a clear road for roughly 17 km (11 mi), on our routing. At weekday rush hours, and while the Aviatická intersection near the airport is being rebuilt, allow 45 minutes or more. The fare is fixed, so traffic changes the time, not the price.
How much is a private car from Prague Airport to the city center?
A fixed Elly8.net transfer to the Old Town costs US$95 in a business sedan, US$125 in a business SUV, US$155 in a First Class SUV, US$170 in a First Class Sedan and US$250 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, including chauffeur, taxes, gratuity and meet and greet.
Can we stop at Prague Castle on the way from the airport?
Yes, if you book by the hour rather than as a straight transfer. The Castle asks visitors not to bring large baggage into the Castle area, so the car waits with your suitcases. Three hours in a business sedan costs US$255, with the drive to your hotel included.
Is the fare the same from the city to the airport?
Yes. Every Elly8.net airport fare is the same fixed price in either direction, so the Old Town to Prague Airport also costs from US$95 in a business sedan. Book it with your airline and flight number so the chauffeur drops you at the right terminal.
What size car do we need for four people and four suitcases?
A Business SUV, from US$125 to the Old Town. Sedans seat three with two bags, while a Business SUV or First Class SUV seats six with six bags, with room for a stroller. For larger groups, an Executive Sprinter seats twelve with twelve bags, from US$250.
Can the car drive to a hotel inside the Old Town?
Often, but not always. Many lanes are narrow or one-way, and some hotels can only be reached on foot for the final stretch. Give us the hotel name when you book, and the desk confirms the nearest drop-off point; the chauffeur helps with the bags.
