Bellagio, on the point of Lake Como where the three arms of the lake meet, has no airport of its own. Every arrival from North America lands in Milan first, almost always at Malpensa (MXP) or Linate (LIN), and then makes the drive, train journey or boat crossing to the lake. A pre-booked Elly8.net airport transfer to Bellagio is fixed before you fly: from US$320 in a business sedan from Malpensa and from US$315 from Linate, per vehicle, charged in US dollars.
This guide is written for travellers from the US and Canada making the trip for the first time. It covers the airport choice, what passport control now involves for non-EU visitors, the honest trade-offs between the train, a taxi and a private driver, and the departure day, which is the leg people most often get wrong. (Looking for the Bellagio resort in Las Vegas instead? See our guide to the taxi from Las Vegas airport to Bellagio.)
How do I get from the airport to Bellagio?
From Malpensa, the simplest way is a pre-booked car: about 78 km (48 mi), roughly 87 minutes on a clear road, from US$320 per vehicle. By public transport, take the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale, a Trenord train to Varenna (about 64 minutes) and the ferry across to Bellagio. A taxi runs on the meter, with tolls on top.
Each option has its place, and the right one depends on your luggage, your party and the time you land. The sections below go through them in order.

Which airport to fly into
| Airport | Typical use from North America | Distance to Bellagio | Clear-road drive | Elly8.net business sedan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Milan Malpensa (MXP) | Nonstop transatlantic flights | about 78 km / 48 mi | about 87 min | US$320 fixed |
| Milan Linate (LIN) | Connections through a European hub | about 75 km / 47 mi | about 75 min | US$315 fixed |
| Milan Bergamo (BGY) | Some European connections | about 60 km / 37 mi (routed estimate) | about 79 min | Fixed quote in the web booker |
Malpensa is where nonstop flights from North America land, and it sits north-west of Milan on the Como side of the city, so the drive to the lake never enters Milan. It has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2; give us the one on your ticket. The airport's own Malpensa website has terminal maps and live arrivals.
Linate is Milan's city airport, for domestic and European flights. If you connect through a European hub and finish on a short flight, you may land here. The fare is slightly lower, from US$315 in a business sedan.
Bergamo is the third airport for the Milan area. If a European connection lands there, the web booker returns a fixed price to Bellagio before you pay.
Whichever airport you choose, fares run from the Business Sedan to the Executive Sprinter: from Malpensa US$320, US$420 in a business SUV, US$515 in a First Class SUV, US$560 in a First Class Sedan and US$835 in a Sprinter. Linate ranges from US$315 to US$820.
Passport control: the EU's Entry/Exit System
US and Canadian visitors arriving in Italy now pass through the European Union's Entry/Exit System (EES). According to the European Commission, the system started progressively on 12 October 2025 and became fully operational on 10 April 2026. It registers non-EU short-stay travellers each time they cross the external border of the countries using it, recording passport data, fingerprints, a facial image and the date and place of entry and exit.
What that means in practice: the first time you enter under the new system, registration adds steps at the border, and queues at passport control can vary a great deal from one morning to the next. This is one of the strongest reasons for a flight-tracked pickup. Your chauffeur follows your flight number, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary, so a long line at passport control or a slow baggage belt does not change your fixed price within the included time.
The arrival: what the first hours look like
Many overnight flights from the East Coast and Canada land in Milan in the morning. After passport control and baggage claim, the chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name board, takes the luggage and walks you to the car. See meet and greet for the details and airport transfers for what is included.
A few practical points from the desk:
- Hotel check-in times. Many hotels have afternoon check-in. If you land early, ask the hotel about early check-in or luggage storage, or build in a stop.
- A stop on the way. Como town is on the route from Malpensa, about 50 km (31 mi) from the airport. A late breakfast by the lake makes a long morning easier; add the stop when you book and the price is fixed with it.
- Children. Ask for child or booster seats and give the ages; the partner fits them before pickup.
- Luggage. A Business Sedan or First Class Sedan takes three passengers and two large bags; a Business SUV or First Class SUV, six and six; an Executive Sprinter, twelve and twelve. Two people with four large cases need an SUV. See the fleet.
Taxi, train or private driver to Bellagio
Here is the honest comparison for the Bellagio arrival specifically.
| Option | What it costs | What the journey involves | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train and ferry | Malpensa Express €15 per adult, plus a regional ticket and the ferry | Airport train to Milano Centrale, about 64 min to Varenna, then the boat to Bellagio | One or two travellers with light bags, a flexible day |
| Taxi from Malpensa | Metered, with motorway tolls on top | Direct by road; no fixed fare to the lake | Travellers who did not book ahead |
| App ride | Priced by demand when you request it | Premium licensed cars, availability varies | Travellers comfortable with surge pricing |
| Elly8.net private driver | US$320 fixed per vehicle from Malpensa, US$315 from Linate | Arrivals hall to the hotel door, flight tracked | Families, groups, late arrivals, fixed budgets |
The train and ferry. The Malpensa Express costs €15 for an adult and €7.50 for a child aged 4 to 13. From Milano Centrale, Trenord runs to Varenna-Esino in about 64 minutes without changes, about 16 trains a day (Trenord), and from Varenna the boat crosses to Bellagio. It is scenic and cheap, but with several large cases after a night flight it means lifting them on and off two trains and a boat. Check the boat operator's notices for service changes before you travel.
The taxi. Milan's official taxi tariff includes fixed fares only for certain routes, such as Malpensa to Milan and Malpensa to Varese (Comune di Milano). Bellagio is not one of them, so a taxi from the airport rank runs on the meter, with tolls added. It goes door to door, but you only find out the price at the hotel.
The private driver. One vehicle, one fixed price in US dollars, agreed before you fly, with flight tracking, meet and greet, taxes and standard gratuity included. Tolls and parking are billed at cost. For a full Malpensa-specific breakdown, including per-party arithmetic, read our Malpensa to Lake Como comparison, and see chauffeur vs taxi for the general case.
Groups, families and wedding guests
Bellagio and the villas around it are popular for destination weddings, milestone birthdays and family reunions, and those trips rarely involve one flight. Guests fly from New York, Toronto, Chicago or Los Angeles, connect through different hubs and land at different times, sometimes at different airports.
The simplest plan is to group arrivals by time window. An Executive Sprinter, which carries twelve passengers and twelve bags, collects everyone landing at Malpensa within an hour or so of each other for one fixed fare of US$835; guests outside the window take a sedan or SUV. Every flight in the booking is tracked, so one late arrival is handled without the whole group waiting longer than necessary. Send the list of names and flight numbers through the web booker, and the desk returns a schedule and a fixed total before anyone flies.
For the stay itself, see wedding transportation and group transportation. Families travelling with young children should ask for seats when booking, giving each child's age.
Paying in US dollars, gratuity included
Two things North American travellers ask us about most:
Currency. Elly8.net fares are quoted and charged in US dollars, so on a US-dollar card the price you see when you book is the amount charged for the transfer, with no euro conversion on our fare. The train, ferry and taxi are paid in euros on the day.
Gratuity. Our fares include a standard gratuity for the chauffeur. There is nothing extra to add at the end of the ride, and no cash to find on arrival.
Tolls and parking are billed at cost, and waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost; the desk tells you before that applies.
The departure day: Bellagio back to the airport
The return is where we see the most stress. The shore road out of Bellagio is narrow and slow, the motorway towards Malpensa can be busy, and the time between leaving the lake and your transatlantic check-in closing is not something to cut fine.
How to plan it:
- Start from your airline's recommended arrival time for an international departure from Malpensa.
- Add the drive. About 87 minutes on a clear road from Bellagio, and more on a summer weekend.
- Add a margin for the shore road and the airport approach. The desk will suggest a pickup time when you book.
The departure fare is the same fixed price as the arrival: US$320 from Bellagio to Malpensa in a business sedan, up to US$835 in a Sprinter. A round trip booked together costs from US$610 in a business sedan from Malpensa and from US$600 from Linate.
Combining Bellagio with Milan or Switzerland
Many first trips pair Bellagio with Milan or with the Swiss Alps. If Milan comes first, the drive to the lake starts at your Milan hotel, and the fixed price comes from the web booker. If the trip continues north, a drive from the lake to St. Moritz or Zurich is booked as a fixed-price city to city car service, and you can fly home from Zurich instead of Milan. Bring passports for the border.
Bellagio, Lake Como, not Bellagio, Las Vegas
Because the Las Vegas resort shares the name, searches for a "Bellagio airport transfer" often mix the two. This page is about the town of Bellagio on Lake Como, Italy, reached from Milan's airports. If you are flying into Harry Reid International in Las Vegas, our Las Vegas car service covers the resort, with fixed fares from the airport to the Strip.

Frequently asked questions
Which airport is closest to Bellagio?
By road, Milan Bergamo is about 60 km (37 mi) away by our routed estimate, Linate about 75 km (47 mi) and Malpensa about 78 km (48 mi). Malpensa is where nonstop flights from North America land, and its drive to Bellagio takes about 87 minutes on a clear road.
How much is an airport transfer to Bellagio?
From Malpensa, from US$320 in a business sedan to US$835 in an Executive Sprinter; from Linate, from US$315 to US$820. Fares are fixed per vehicle and include the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
Will passport control make me miss my driver?
No. Your chauffeur tracks your flight and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. Under the EU's Entry/Exit System, non-EU visitors are registered at the border, so allow for queues; the chauffeur waits in arrivals with a name board.
Is the train a good option to Bellagio?
For one or two travellers with light bags, yes: the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale, a Trenord train to Varenna in about 64 minutes, and the boat across. With large suitcases or children it means several changes, which is why most families choose a car.
Do I need to tip the chauffeur?
No. Elly8.net fares include a standard gratuity, so there is nothing to add at the end of the ride. The price is charged in US dollars when you book.
When should I leave Bellagio for my flight home?
Start from your airline's recommended arrival time at Malpensa, add about 87 minutes for the drive on a clear road, and add a margin for the shore road and summer traffic. The desk suggests a pickup time when you book the return.
