The drive from Barcelona airport to the city center is short. From Terminal 1 at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) to Passeig de Gràcia, in the middle of the Eixample, it is about 13.5 km (8.4 mi), roughly 18 to 19 minutes on a clear road. From Terminal 2 add a couple of kilometres and a couple of minutes. The Gothic Quarter, the beach hotels at the Port Olímpic and the Diagonal business corridor are all within about 20 minutes on a clear road.
A private car with Elly8.net costs from US$105 per vehicle in a business sedan to US$275 in an Executive Sprinter, fixed and all-in, the same in either direction. This guide sets out the routed times to each part of the city, what slows the drive down, how to add a stop between the airport and the hotel, and how the cost compares with the alternatives.
How long does it take to drive from Barcelona airport to the city center?
On a clear road, about 18 to 20 minutes from Terminal 1 to Passeig de Gràcia, the Gothic Quarter or the Port Olímpic, and 20 to 22 minutes from Terminal 2. Weekday rush hours, summer Friday afternoons and trade-show openings at Fira Gran Via add time. An Elly8.net car is fixed from US$105 per vehicle.
The times in this guide are routed estimates on the public road network without traffic, so treat them as the floor rather than the average. The fare does not change with traffic; it is fixed when you book.
Rides in Barcelona are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.

All distances and times are routed estimates, clear road. The published fixed fares cover Passeig de Gràcia and most central addresses, including the Gothic Quarter, El Born, the Diagonal business corridor and the beach hotels at the Port Olímpic; any other address is priced instantly in the web booker.
The route, and what slows it down
There are two main ways in. The Ronda Litoral follows the coast past the port and is the natural route to the Gothic Quarter, El Born, Barceloneta and the beach hotels. The Gran Via runs straight up through L'Hospitalet past Fira Gran Via into the Eixample. The chauffeur chooses on the day according to traffic and your address.
Four things push the drive beyond the routed times:
The weekday rush. Both routes slow in the morning and evening peaks, when commuter traffic heads into and out of the city.
Summer Fridays. On Friday afternoons from June to September, traffic leaving the city for the coast and the mountains builds on the ring roads.
Trade-show openings. Fira Gran Via sits on the Gran Via between the airport and the Eixample. When a large show such as MWC opens, the roads around the venue fill early and the Gran Via approach slows.
The last few hundred metres. In the Gothic Quarter and El Born, many streets are pedestrian or restricted to residents. The chauffeur stops at the nearest permitted point, often on Via Laietana, and helps with the bags. In the Eixample, one-way streets and busy loading bays can add a few minutes around the block.
For a planning figure, budget 25 to 40 minutes for an arrival at the morning peak and 20 minutes late in the evening. Most transatlantic flights land at Terminal 1 in the morning, and passport control and baggage reclaim take longer than the drive.
Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?
El Prat's two terminals are several kilometres apart on the airport site. Terminal 1 handles flights from North America and most network airlines; Terminal 2 mainly low-cost and short-haul carriers. The extra 1.5 to 2 km from Terminal 2 adds only a couple of minutes, and the fare is the same. What matters is that the chauffeur waits in the right building, which is why the booking asks for your flight number. If you connect at another terminal, Aena's free shuttle between T1 and T2 runs 24 hours a day, every 5 to 10 minutes, according to Aena's inter-terminal shuttle page.
From the arrivals hall to the car
The drive starts before the car moves. The chauffeur tracks the flight, waits inside the arrivals hall of your terminal with a name board, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary, so a slow passport queue costs you nothing. From the hall, the chauffeur walks you and the luggage to the car. Aena designates a meeting point for chauffeur-driven vehicles in the Terminal 1 car park on floor -1, listed on its vehicles-for-hire page, so the car is parked close by rather than circling the kerb. For a family, that short walk with a luggage trolley is the difference between a calm first hour and a tense one.
Which part of the city is "the center"?
Barcelona's center is several neighbourhoods, and the right drop-off depends on why you are here. The Eixample around Passeig de Gràcia holds most of the luxury hotels, the flagship shops and the Modernista houses. The Gothic Quarter and El Born are the medieval core, atmospheric but partly closed to cars. The Port Olímpic and Barceloneta are the beach hotels, and the Diagonal and the 22@ district in Poblenou are where many companies have their offices. All of them are within about 20 minutes of El Prat on a clear road, and the central ones share the same fixed fare.
Adding a stop on the way into the city
A private car can do something the metro and the taxi rank cannot easily do: stop where you need it to on the way in. Common requests from arriving travellers:
- Collecting apartment keys at a key office before going on to a holiday flat in the Gothic Quarter or Gràcia.
- A badge pick-up or a stand visit at Fira Gran Via on the way to the hotel during a trade show.
- Dropping colleagues at two hotels, or one colleague at the office on the Diagonal and the rest at the hotel.
- A pharmacy, a phone shop for a local SIM, or a bank before check-in.
- Leaving bags at the hotel and going straight to a lunch reservation.
Each extra stop is quoted in the web booker as a multi-stop ride, so the price is fixed before you travel. If you expect to spend more than a short time at the stop, the hourly chauffeur is often the better booking: US$85 an hour in a business sedan, US$110 in a business SUV and US$170 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum.
What the fixed fare costs, by vehicle
| BCN to Passeig de Gràcia | One way, per vehicle | Round trip, per vehicle | Seats | Large bags |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | US$105 | US$200 | 3 | 2 |
| Business SUV | US$140 | US$270 | 6 | 6 |
| First Class SUV | US$170 | US$325 | 6 | 6 |
| First Class Sedan | US$185 | US$355 | 3 | 2 |
| Executive Sprinter | US$275 | US$525 | 12 | 12 |
The fare includes the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet in arrivals. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost. It is the same fixed price from the city to the airport. Partner vehicles are four model years old or newer; the classes are shown on the fleet page.
How the cost compares
For a fair picture, here is what the other ways into the city cost, from official sources.
The official taxi runs on the 2026 metropolitan tariff: a €2.80 flag fall, €1.35 per km on weekdays from 8:00 to 20:00 or €1.66 per km at night and weekends, a €4.60 airport supplement, and a €21 minimum for any ride from the airport, according to the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona taxi tariffs. On the routed 13.5 km to Passeig de Gràcia that arithmetic gives roughly €26 by day or €30 at night, before any time charged in slow traffic. Our Barcelona airport taxi guide goes through it line by line.
Metro line L9 Sud serves both terminals with a €5.90 Airport ticket, according to TMB, but most hotels need a change of line. Aena lists the Aerobús express coaches from both terminals to Plaça de Catalunya, and the R2 Nord commuter train from Terminal 2.
The honest conclusion is the usual one. For one traveller with light luggage, a taxi or the metro is cheaper and perfectly good. For three or more people with bags, a family with child seats, a late or very early arrival, or anyone with a stop to make on the way, the fixed car is competitive and simpler. A business SUV at US$140 for a family of four is US$35 each as arithmetic for comparison only; the price is for the vehicle. Arriving for a show or a meeting
Business travellers often go straight from the plane to a meeting. Fira Gran Via is only about 8 km (5 mi) from Terminal 1, roughly 9 minutes routed, so a chauffeur can take you to the venue first and on to the hotel with the bags still in the car. During large shows, book the arrival transfer and an hourly car for meeting days together, as early as possible. Companies can put the whole team on a corporate account with monthly invoicing, and exhibitors moving staff should read conference transportation.
The return drive to the airport
Going back, the same distances apply, but the timing question is different: you are working back from a departure time, not forward from a landing. The desk asks for your flight and terminal and sets a pickup time that allows for the traffic at that hour and the check-in and security queues. Early-morning pickups usually avoid the peaks; mid-afternoon departures on summer Fridays need the most margin.
If you are flying from Terminal 2, say so when booking. Arriving at the wrong building means a shuttle ride back to the right one.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Barcelona airport from the city center?
About 13.5 km (8.4 mi) by road from Terminal 1 to Passeig de Gràcia and about 15 km (9.4 mi) from Terminal 2, as routed estimates. The Gothic Quarter and the Port Olímpic beach hotels are 15 to 17.5 km away depending on the terminal.
How long is the drive at rush hour?
Clear-road times are about 18 to 22 minutes to the centre. At the weekday morning and evening peaks, on summer Friday afternoons and when a large trade show opens at Fira Gran Via, budget 25 to 40 minutes. A pre-booked fare does not change with traffic.
How much is a private car from Barcelona airport to the city?
From US$105 in a business sedan, US$140 in a business SUV, US$170 in a First Class SUV, US$185 in a First Class Sedan and US$275 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, one way to Passeig de Gràcia and most central addresses. Round trips are from US$200 to US$525.
Can we stop somewhere on the way to the hotel?
Yes. Add the stop in the web booker and the multi-stop ride is quoted before you pay, for example collecting apartment keys or dropping a colleague at an office. For longer stops, the hourly chauffeur at US$85 an hour in a business sedan, with a 3-hour minimum, is often better.
Is the price different from Terminal 2?
No. The published fare from El Prat is the same whichever terminal you use. The chauffeur checks the terminal from your flight number and waits in that arrivals hall with a name board. Terminal 2 is only a couple of minutes further from the centre on a clear road.
Can the car reach a hotel in the Gothic Quarter?
Often not the door itself, because many old-town streets are pedestrian or restricted. The chauffeur stops at the nearest permitted point and helps with the luggage. Tell the desk the hotel when you book and it plans the drop-off, often on Via Laietana or near Plaça de Catalunya.
