The cruise terminals at the Port of Barcelona are only about 12 km (7 mi) by road from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) to the Adossat quay, where most large ships berth, roughly 20 minutes on a clear road. There is no train to the ships. Public transport means the metro or a commuter train into the city and then the port's cruise shuttle bus, which is cheap but involves two or three changes with luggage. The official taxi has a fixed fare of €46 between the airport and the Moll Adossat, all supplements included.
A private car is the door-to-door option for families and groups with a week of luggage: the chauffeur meets you inside arrivals, loads the cases and drives straight to the drop-off area of your terminal. With Elly8.net the port run is priced in the web booker; for reference, the published fixed fare from El Prat to Passeig de Gràcia is from US$105 per vehicle in a business sedan to US$275 in an Executive Sprinter. Here is a fair comparison for travellers from the US and Canada.
How do you get from Barcelona airport to the cruise port?
Three ways: the official taxi, at a fixed €46 between the airport and the Moll Adossat terminals; metro L9 Sud or the R2 Nord train into the city, then the port's cruise bus at €3.50 one way; or a pre-booked private car to your terminal's drop-off area. There is no direct train to the ships.
The taxi fare comes from the 2026 metropolitan taxi tariffs, which set the airport to Moll Adossat trip at €46 in either direction with every supplement included. The cruise bus fare is published by the Port de Barcelona's transport page: €3.50 one way or €5 return, connecting the Adossat terminals with the city centre.
Rides in Barcelona are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.

First, find your terminal
Barcelona has seven international cruise terminals, listed by the Port de Barcelona: Terminals A, B and C, Terminal D (Palacruceros), Terminal E (Helix), the MSC terminal and the World Trade Center terminal (WTCB). They are spread along two quays, the Adossat quay and the Barcelona quay. The port describes the World Trade Center terminals as a step from the public transport network, while the Adossat terminals are served by a shuttle bus.
Your cruise documents name the terminal, and it matters. The Adossat terminals are the ones served by the cruise bus and covered by the €46 fixed taxi fare. The distances also differ: our routing puts El Prat about 12 km from the southern Adossat terminals and around 14 km from the World Trade Center, both roughly 15 to 20 minutes on a clear road.
The port notes that private vehicles may drop off and pick up passengers and luggage at the terminals, but parking is not allowed. That is why a chauffeured car, which drops you and leaves, is simpler than a rental for a cruise start.
Option 1: metro or train, then the cruise bus
This is the cheapest route and it works, but think about it with your luggage in mind.
From Terminal 1, metro line L9 Sud leaves from inside the terminal; the Airport ticket costs €5.90, according to TMB's fares page, and the standard T-casual ten-trip card is not valid at the airport stations. From Terminal 2, Aena lists the R2 Nord commuter train into the city. Either way, you change to reach the city centre and then take the cruise bus to the Adossat terminals.
For one or two travellers with a cabin bag each, on a light-luggage port-intensive cruise, this is perfectly reasonable. For most cruise travellers from North America, who arrive after an overnight flight with large cases for a week or two at sea, it means lifting bags up and down station stairs and on and off two or three vehicles. Ships also have boarding windows, and a missed connection eats into them.
Option 2: the official taxi at €46
The fixed T-4 taxi fare between the airport and the Moll Adossat is a genuinely good deal for two people: €46 for the car, all supplements included, from the rank outside arrivals. The ranks are on floor 0 at Terminal 1 and outside arrivals at T2A, T2B and T2C, according to Aena's taxi page. Official Barcelona taxis are black and yellow.
The limits are capacity and timing. A standard taxi has limited room for cruise luggage; larger taxis for five to eight people add a €4.60 supplement on metered trips. On a busy turnaround morning, many passengers leave the airport for the ships at the same time, the morning long-haul arrivals add to the queue, and the rank lengthens accordingly. For the World Trade Center terminal, the meter runs on the normal tariff rather than the fixed fare. Our Barcelona airport taxi guide covers the full tariff, and chauffeur vs taxi sets out the general trade-off.
Option 3: a pre-booked private car
The chauffeur tracks your flight and waits inside arrivals with a name board, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. Bags go straight into a vehicle sized for them, and the car drives to the drop-off area for your terminal, which you give the desk when booking. On disembarkation day the process reverses: the chauffeur meets you at the terminal after you have collected your bags and drives you to the airport or a hotel.
Vehicle sizing is the main reason cruise passengers book a car. A business sedan carries three passengers and two large bags, which is tight for a cruise. A business SUV or First Class SUV takes six passengers and six bags, the right size for a couple with a lot of luggage or a family of four. An Executive Sprinter takes twelve passengers and twelve bags, which keeps an extended family or a group of friends sailing together in one vehicle. See cruise port transfers for how the service works in every port city we cover.
Side by side
| Option | Published price | Changes with luggage | Waiting | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metro L9 Sud or R2 Nord, then cruise bus | €5.90 metro Airport ticket plus €3.50 cruise bus, per person | Two or three | Timetables at each step | Solo travellers, cabin bags only |
| Official taxi, airport to Moll Adossat | €46 fixed per car, all supplements | None | Rank queue, longest on turnaround mornings | Couples with moderate luggage, Adossat terminals |
| Elly8.net pre-booked car | Quoted in the web booker, per vehicle; BCN to Passeig de Gràcia from US$105 | None | None; the chauffeur is waiting | Families, groups, heavy luggage, pre-cruise stops |
The honest verdict: for two people with moderate luggage going to an Adossat terminal, the €46 fixed taxi is hard to beat on price. A private car is the better choice for families with children and child seats, groups who want one vehicle, travellers with mobility needs, anyone sailing from the World Trade Center terminal with a lot of luggage, and anyone who wants a stop between the airport and the ship.
Planning the day after an overnight flight
Most flights from the United States and Canada land at Terminal 1 in the morning. Boarding windows are set by each cruise line, and it is tempting to fly in on sailing day. The risk is obvious: a delayed or cancelled flight, or a lost bag, and the ship leaves without you. Many travellers prefer to arrive a day early, which turns the transfer into two short rides and gives you an evening in the city.
Option A, arrive a day early. Airport to a hotel in the Eixample or by the beach, from US$105 per vehicle in a business sedan or US$140 in a business SUV to Passeig de Gràcia. The next day, hotel to the ship: Passeig de Gràcia to the Adossat quay is about 6 km (4 mi), roughly 17 minutes routed, quoted in the web booker.
Option B, a city tour on sailing day. Check out, put the luggage in the car, see the Sagrada Família, Park Güell or Montjuïc in the morning, and drop at the ship mid-afternoon. The web booker quotes this as a multi-stop day; the private city highlights tour on its own is from US$340 per vehicle. Our guide to Barcelona private tours by car shows how a tour is routed. Book any timed entry tickets first and build the car around them.
Option C, straight from the plane. If you do fly in on sailing day, choose an early arrival and a car that is already waiting, and tell the desk your ship so the chauffeur can plan the drop.
After the cruise, a common plan is a morning disembarkation and a day trip before an evening flight, for example Montserrat with the luggage in the car. See Barcelona day trips with a private driver.
Points that matter to North American travellers
You pay in dollars. Elly8.net fares are charged in US dollars, so the transfer cost is known in your own currency before you leave home. Taxis and the metro are paid in euros.
Gratuity is included. Elly8.net fares include standard gratuity, taxes and meet and greet. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost.
Child seats. If you are travelling with young children, ask for child or booster seats when you book and give the ages; the partner fits them before pickup. Rank taxis do not come with seats fitted.
Connections through Europe. If you connect in Madrid, Lisbon or another Schengen hub, you clear immigration there and may land in Barcelona at Terminal 2. The chauffeur checks your terminal from the final flight number.
Cruises that start or end elsewhere. Many Mediterranean itineraries are one-way. If yours ends in another port city, Elly8.net books the car there too, with fixed fares on pages such as Venice and Athens, so both ends of the cruise sit in one place and are paid in the same currency.
Groups on one booking. Travel agents and group organisers can book on account through travel agent accounts, with every car on one invoice.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Barcelona airport from the cruise port?
About 12 km (7 mi) by road from El Prat to the southern Adossat terminals and around 14 km to the World Trade Center terminal, roughly 15 to 20 minutes on a clear road, as routed estimates. Turnaround mornings and weekday rush hours add time.
How much is a taxi from Barcelona airport to the cruise terminal?
Between the airport and the Moll Adossat terminals there is a fixed taxi fare of €46 in either direction, with all supplements included, under the 2026 metropolitan tariffs. Trips to the World Trade Center terminal run on the normal meter, with the €4.60 airport supplement.
Is there a train from Barcelona airport to the cruise port?
No direct one. Metro line L9 Sud from both terminals, or the R2 Nord train from Terminal 2, takes you into the city, and the port's cruise bus, €3.50 one way, connects the city centre with the Adossat terminals. It is economical but involves changes with luggage.
How much is a private car to the cruise port?
The airport to cruise terminal run is priced per vehicle in the Elly8.net web booker when you enter your terminal. For reference, the fixed fare from El Prat to Passeig de Gràcia is US$105 in a business sedan, US$140 in a business SUV and US$275 in an Executive Sprinter, including standard gratuity.
Can a car meet us when we get off the ship?
Yes. Enter the terminal and ship as the pickup and the airport or hotel as the drop-off. The chauffeur meets you at the terminal after you have collected your bags. A business SUV or Sprinter fits a full cruise's luggage, and a day trip can be added before an evening flight.
Should we fly in on the day of the cruise?
It is possible with an early arrival, but a flight delay or a lost bag can mean missing the ship. Many travellers from North America arrive a day early, take a short transfer to a hotel, and go to the port the next day by car, which also spreads the jet lag over an evening in the city.
