JFK to the Hamptons by private car means a chauffeur waiting inside your terminal, one vehicle for the people and the bags, and a drive of about 93 miles (150 km) to East Hampton, roughly 2 hours 20 minutes on a clear road and longer on a summer Friday. On Elly8.net the fare from JFK to East Hampton is fixed and all-in: from US$585 in a business sedan, US$765 in a business SUV and US$1,525 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, the same price in either direction.
This guide walks through the trip as it happens, from the moment you land to the moment the bags are inside the house. It also compares the alternatives honestly, because for one person with a weekend bag the train or the coach can be the better choice. Rides in the Hamptons are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
How much is a car from JFK to the Hamptons?
An Elly8.net car from JFK to East Hampton costs from US$585 in a business sedan, US$765 in a business SUV, US$940 in a First Class SUV, US$1,025 in a First Class sedan and US$1,525 in an Executive Sprinter. The price is fixed and all-in per vehicle, with flight tracking and meet and greet inside arrivals; tolls are billed at cost.
A round trip booked together, for example JFK out on Friday and back to JFK on Sunday, runs from US$1,115 in a business sedan to US$2,900 in an Executive Sprinter. For other East End addresses, such as Southampton, Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor, Amagansett or Montauk, the web booker quotes a fixed door-to-door price.

Before you fly: what to send the desk
- Flight number and airline, so the desk tracks the actual landing, not the schedule.
- Terminal, if you know it; the desk confirms it from the flight.
- Exact address on the East End, with gate codes or the house name if the driveway is not obvious from the road.
- Passengers and bags, including surfboards, golf clubs, strollers, dog crates and cases of wine.
- Child seats, available on request, with each child's age and weight.
- Stops, such as a grocery store on the way, so the time is in the plan.
The confirmation arrives by email, and the chauffeur's name and number follow before pickup.
Landing: where the chauffeur meets you at JFK
JFK's passenger terminals are Terminals 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8, according to the Port Authority's JFK terminals page. Whichever one you land at, your chauffeur waits inside arrivals, after baggage claim, holding a name board. You get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing, which covers the normal time at the carousel.
International arrivals. After a transatlantic flight you go through passport control and customs before you reach the arrivals hall, and that can take a while at busy times. Because the flight is tracked and the waiting starts at the landing, the chauffeur adjusts; text when you are through so they know you are on the way out.
Why not the app? The Port Authority's ride-share page notes that ride-app pickups for Terminals 5 and 7 have temporarily moved to the Howard Beach AirTrain Station because of construction at JFK. For a Hamptons trip with luggage, that means an AirTrain ride before the car, then a two-hour app ride priced at the moment you request it. Our post on Uber from Boston to Providence explains why long app rides are where demand pricing hurts most.
The drive out east
| From JFK to | Distance | Clear-road time | Elly8.net business sedan | Elly8.net Executive Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Southampton | about 80 mi (128 km) | about 1 h 55 min | web booker | web booker |
| East Hampton | about 93 mi (150 km) | about 2 h 20 min | US$585 | US$1,525 |
| Montauk | about 106 mi (170 km) | about 2 h 40 min | web booker | web booker |
The route leaves JFK on the Van Wyck or the Belt Parkway, picks up the Long Island Expressway or the Southern State, and joins Sunrise Highway, which becomes Montauk Highway (Route 27) through the villages. East of the Shinnecock Canal it is essentially one road, so the timing of the trip matters as much as the route.
When the roads are clear. Weekday mornings out of season, late evenings, and Saturday mornings in early summer are usually the easiest. A flight landing after the evening rush often has the clearest run of the day.
When they are not. Summer Friday afternoons and the eve of holiday weekends are the slowest; on those days the same trip can take far longer than the clear-road time. Sunday evenings are slow in the other direction.
Stops. A grocery or wine stop near the house is easy to add; tell the desk when you book. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost.
Which vehicle fits the bags
The capacities are from our fleet page.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Bags | JFK to East Hampton | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | up to 3 | 2 | US$585 | a couple with a suitcase each |
| First Class Sedan | up to 3 | 2 | US$1,025 | executives, VIP guests |
| Business SUV | up to 6 | 6 | US$765 | families, a summer week's luggage |
| First Class SUV | up to 6 | 6 | US$940 | families wanting the top-tier SUV |
| Executive Sprinter | up to 12 | 12 | US$1,525 | house shares, wedding parties |
Notice that the First Class SUV, at US$940, costs less than the First Class sedan at US$1,025, so families who want a premium cabin usually choose the SUV. Six friends sharing a house for a week, each with a large bag and a beach bag, is a Sprinter job rather than an SUV job. If in doubt, size up.
The alternatives, compared fairly
| Option | How it works from JFK | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elly8.net private car | chauffeur inside arrivals, door to door | from US$585 per vehicle, fixed | families, groups, bags, late or international arrivals |
| JFK taxi | the Port Authority says fares to Suffolk County are negotiated with the driver at the start | negotiated | short notice, if a driver agrees |
| Coach (Hampton Jitney) | taxi from JFK to the operator's Queens connection stop, then the coach east | coach fare plus the taxi | solo travellers with light bags |
| AirTrain plus the LIRR | AirTrain to Jamaica (US$8.75), then the Long Island Rail Road east | AirTrain plus rail fare, per person | solo travellers, off-peak |
| Uber / Lyft | app pickup zone; Terminals 5 and 7 at Howard Beach for now | set in the app at request | flexible travellers |
Sources: the JFK taxi page sets out flat and metered fares within New York City and states that fares to Connecticut, Suffolk County, New Jersey and areas north and west of Westchester are negotiated between passenger and driver at the start of the trip; the AirTrain page lists the US$8.75 fare to Jamaica and Howard Beach; and the Hampton Jitney's own airport connections page describes a taxi from JFK to its stop in Fresh Meadows, Queens, allowing 25 to 30 minutes from JFK.
The honest verdict. One traveller with a weekend bag on a weekday afternoon: the AirTrain and the LIRR, or the coach, are good value, and we would not pretend otherwise. Two or more people with real luggage, a family with car seats, anyone landing late or from a long-haul flight, or a group heading to a wedding: the private car is simpler, and per vehicle the price stops looking expensive once it is shared. Five travellers in a business SUV at US$765 is US$153 each, as arithmetic for comparison only.
Which airport for the Hamptons?
JFK is the airport for international arrivals and most nonstop domestic routes, but it is the longest drive. Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) is about 54 miles (86 km) from East Hampton, and the fare from ISP starts at US$405 in a business sedan. Travellers flying private into East Hampton Airport (HTO) are about 4 miles (7 km) from the village, from US$140. Our Hamptons car service page compares all three, and private jet and FBO transfers covers private arrivals.
Season by season
June to Labor Day. Peak season. Book early, especially SUVs and Sprinters for the Friday before a holiday weekend, and expect the slowest roads on Friday afternoons eastbound and Sunday evenings westbound. The fixed price does not rise on busy weekends; availability is the constraint, not the fare.
May, September and October. The shoulder months are quieter, with easier roads, the same fixed prices and often the nicest weather for a long weekend. Many repeat visitors prefer them.
Winter. The East End is quiet, the roads are clear outside storms, and the drive often comes in close to the clear-road time. If snow is forecast, check timing with the desk before you fly.
Going back to JFK
The fare is the same in reverse. The desk plans the pickup around the day and the season: on a summer Sunday afternoon it will suggest leaving earlier than the map implies, and for an international departure it allows for check-in and security on top. The chauffeur drops you at your terminal's departures level.
For companies, hosts and planners
Summer brings offsites, client weekends and weddings to the East End, and many of them start at JFK. A corporate account gives monthly invoicing and NDAs on request. Hosts can book cars for guests arriving on different flights, with each guest's name on their own board. Once out east, the hourly chauffeur starts at US$110 an hour in a business sedan and US$220 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. See airport transfers, wedding limousine and guest shuttles and group transportation.
Long airport runs elsewhere follow the same logic; our guide to Toronto to Buffalo Airport by private car plans a two-hour transfer with a border in the middle.
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, refunded to the original card. Every fixed fare is on prices and packages; Manhattan pickups and JFK to the city are on New York City car service. Elly8.net is a member of LimousineWorldwide.Directory, LimousineAssociation.International, HotelsWorldwide.Directory and VacationsWorldwide.Directory, and books the car only; flights and hotels go through our travel partner BookingWorldwide.net.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the drive from JFK to the Hamptons?
About 93 miles (150 km) to East Hampton, roughly 2 hours 20 minutes on a clear road; about 80 miles to Southampton and 106 miles to Montauk. Summer Friday afternoons and holiday weekends can take much longer, so the desk plans the pickup around the traffic.
How much is a car service from JFK to East Hampton?
From US$585 in a business sedan, US$765 in a business SUV, US$940 in a First Class SUV, US$1,025 in a First Class sedan and US$1,525 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. The price includes the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. Tolls are billed at cost.
Where will the chauffeur meet me at JFK?
Inside arrivals at your terminal, after baggage claim, holding a name board. The desk tracks the flight, and complimentary waiting starts from the tracked landing, so a delayed or early flight is covered. After an international flight, text the chauffeur when you clear customs.
Can I take a taxi from JFK to the Hamptons?
The Port Authority says taxi fares from JFK to Suffolk County, which includes the Hamptons, are negotiated between the passenger and the driver at the start of the trip. A pre-booked car gives you a fixed price before you fly and a chauffeur waiting inside.
Is the train or the Jitney cheaper?
Yes, for one person. The AirTrain to Jamaica is US$8.75, then the LIRR runs east; the coach involves a taxi from JFK to its Queens stop. Both suit a solo traveller with light luggage. For a group or a family with bags, one private car is usually simpler.
Do you have child seats for the drive?
Yes, child seats are available on request. Add the number and type with each child's age and weight when you book, and the chauffeur fits them before pickup. Families arriving for a summer rental usually book a business SUV for the seats and the luggage.
