Yes, you can use Uber in Copenhagen, and the app on your phone from New York or Toronto will work when you land. What surprises most North American visitors is what turns up. Uber launched in Copenhagen in early 2025 by connecting riders with licensed taxi drivers, and in May 2025 it announced it was buying Dantaxi, which it describes as Denmark's largest taxi company. In practice, an Uber in Copenhagen is usually a taxi booked through a different app, priced under the Danish taxi rules.
That changes the comparison. The real choice is not Uber against a taxi, because they are often the same car. It is an on-demand taxi, however you order it, against the metro and against a chauffeur booked before you fly. A fixed Elly8.net transfer from Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to Kongens Nytorv costs from US$115 in a business sedan to US$300 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. Below is a fair look at when each option wins.
How does Uber work in Copenhagen?
Uber in Copenhagen matches riders with licensed taxi drivers rather than private drivers in their own cars. In its May 2025 announcement, Uber said trips are priced according to the Danish taxi rules and the price is shown in the app before you book. An UberX request can sometimes be fulfilled by a limousine at the same price.
Uber's announcement of the Dantaxi purchase, published on its Danish newsroom on 28 May 2025, said the deal would connect passengers with more than 3,500 professional drivers in 75 of Denmark's 98 municipalities, and that Dantaxi would keep running its own taxi services while its drivers joined the Uber platform. Uber's Copenhagen page adds a few local details worth knowing: limousines that pick up an UberX request have no card terminal, so those trips are paid in the app; you cannot change the destination once a ride is confirmed; and Uber Reserve takes bookings up to 90 days ahead. Uber's page also gives an average of DKK 186 for a 15-minute trip, which is Uber's own figure rather than a published fare.

Why the Danish taxi rules matter to you
Denmark regulates paid passenger transport tightly, and every taxi company has to publish its prices in a comparable form. TAXA 4x35, one of the large Copenhagen taxi companies, explains on its price page that the taxi legislation requires all companies to display a "door price", the average price of a 10 km trip lasting 12 minutes, so passengers can compare companies. TAXA lists its own door prices at DKK 230 on weekdays and DKK 280 in the evening and at weekends.
The meter itself is a start fee plus a price per kilometre and a price per minute. TAXA's published tariff for an ordinary car with up to four passengers, valid from 1 December 2023, is DKK 39 plus DKK 11 per km plus DKK 6.75 per minute on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and DKK 49 plus DKK 14.70 per km plus DKK 7 per minute in the evening, at weekends and on public holidays. Trips from the airport carry a DKK 20 airport supplement. Booked through TAXA's own app, the same trip can be locked at a fixed price before it starts.
For you, the upshot is reassuring: whichever app you use, the price is regulated, shown before you go when you book in an app, and you are riding with a licensed driver in a licensed vehicle. What none of these apps guarantees is a car at the moment you want one, a vehicle big enough for your luggage, or a driver waiting inside the terminal.
| Option | How the price works | Copenhagen Airport to the centre | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uber (taxi or limousine) | Upfront price under Danish taxi rules | Pickup at the airport plus about 22 min drive | Light travellers who want their usual app |
| Taxi from the rank or a taxi app | Meter, or a fixed price in the company app | About 22 min plus traffic; DKK 20 airport supplement | Walk-up trips, short notice |
| Metro M2 | DKK 30 for a 3-zone adult ticket | About 14 min, around the clock | One or two travellers, carry-on bags |
| Regional train to Central Station | Same zone ticket system | About 15 min, every 10 min in the day | Hotels near Central Station and Tivoli |
| Elly8.net business sedan | US$115 fixed, per vehicle, all-in | About 22 min door to door, met inside | Families, groups, heavy bags, fixed budgets |
At Copenhagen Airport: what actually happens
The airport sits on Amager, about 10 km (6 mi) from Kongens Nytorv, roughly 22 minutes by road on a clear run. That short distance is why the public options are so good. The Copenhagen Metro says it takes 14 minutes from the airport station to the centre, and the metro runs around the clock. A 3-zone metro ticket covering travel between the centre and the airport costs DKK 30 for an adult. Visit Copenhagen, the official tourism site, says trains between the airport and Copenhagen Central Station run every ten minutes in the daytime and take about 15 minutes.
An app ride from the airport means walking out with your bags, finding the pickup point the app gives you and waiting for the car to reach it. After a short European hop with a carry-on, that is no hardship. After an overnight flight from Chicago with two children, four suitcases and a car seat, it is the moment a name board in the arrivals hall earns its price.
With Elly8.net, the chauffeur tracks your flight from the number on the booking and waits in arrivals after you clear passport control and collect your bags. Waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary, so a slow baggage hall costs nothing. The transfer to Kongens Nytorv costs from US$115 in a business sedan, US$150 in a business SUV, US$185 in a First Class SUV and US$205 in a First Class Sedan, to US$300 in an Executive Sprinter, and the price is the same in either direction. See airport transfers and meet and greet.
Luggage reality: the car that turns up
An app taxi is usually a standard car for up to four passengers. TAXA's price page lists a separate, higher tariff for minibuses carrying five to eight people, with a start fee of DKK 69 on weekdays, so a larger group either pays for the bigger vehicle or splits into two cars and two bills.
A pre-booked chauffeur lets you choose the vehicle from the luggage up. The Elly8.net classes carry:
| Vehicle class | Passengers | Bags | CPH to Kongens Nytorv |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | 3 | 2 | US$115 |
| First Class Sedan | 3 | 2 | US$205 |
| Business SUV / Van | 6 | 6 | US$150 |
| First Class SUV | 6 | 6 | US$185 |
| Executive Sprinter | 12 | 12 | US$300 |
Prices are per vehicle. For a family of five with five cases, the US$150 Business SUV is one car with room to spare; dividing it by five gives US$30 each, as arithmetic for comparison only. The fleet page shows every class.
Five Copenhagen situations and what we would book
One traveller, carry-on, staying near Kongens Nytorv. Take the metro. It is 14 minutes, runs all night and costs DKK 30. We would book it ourselves.
A couple going to a hotel near Central Station or Tivoli. The train or the metro, or an app taxi if it is raining and you have bags. The fare will be modest and the regulated price shown up front.
A family of five landing at 7 a.m. after a transatlantic flight. A pre-booked Business SUV. The chauffeur is waiting with a name board, child seats are fitted before pickup, and the price was settled in US dollars weeks ago.
A sales team of eight heading straight to the Bella Center. One Executive Sprinter at US$300 rather than two or three app rides. The Bella Center in Ørestad is on Amager between the airport and the centre, and on congress mornings the entrances are crowded. For a full day of meetings, the corporate roadshow day costs from US$810 in a business sedan to US$1,620 in a Sprinter; see conference transportation.
A night out in Nyhavn, Tivoli or a concert. For two people, an app taxi home is fine on an ordinary night. When everyone leaves a venue at once, apps and ranks are stretched together. The evening out and event night package, from US$450 in a business sedan to US$900 in a Sprinter, keeps one car and one meeting point for the evening. The chauffeur follows local rules on everything inside the vehicle.
Price certainty: three different promises
The three options make different promises, and it helps to know which one you are buying.
An app fixed price is a promise for one trip, made when you request it, under regulated taxi pricing. It does not promise that a car will be free when you open the app, and a booking for a future trip depends on a driver accepting it.
The meter is a promise that the regulated tariff will be applied. The final number depends on traffic and the time of day, and you only know it at the end.
An Elly8.net fixed fare is a promise made before you travel, for a named vehicle class, with the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet included. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost, never marked up. You know the number when you book your flights, and it is charged to your card in US dollars.
Uber Black and the premium question
Travellers who use Uber Black at home often ask whether it is the same thing as a chauffeur. In Copenhagen, Uber's own page says an UberX request may be upgraded to Uber Black, a limousine, depending on availability. That is a pleasant surprise when it happens, but it is not something you can plan a client pickup around.
The difference that matters for business travel is the booking itself. A pre-booked chauffeur is assigned to your flight, knows the passenger name, waits through delays and invoices the company rather than the traveller's personal account. A corporate account adds fixed fares, monthly invoicing, one booking contact for a whole team and NDAs on request. See Uber Black vs a pre-booked chauffeur and chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft.
Beyond the city: Malmö and the coast
App rides are built for short city trips. For longer journeys, a fixed booking is usually simpler. Malmö is about 40 km (25 mi) from Kongens Nytorv over the Øresund Bridge, and the Øresundsbron toll is priced by vehicle length; our guide to Copenhagen to Malmö by car covers the drive, the stops and the border check. North along the coast, the six-hour Kronborg Castle and Danish Riviera package costs from US$500 in a business sedan to US$995 in a Sprinter, and our Copenhagen day tours guide lays out the routes.

Frequently asked questions
Is Uber available in Copenhagen?
Yes. Uber launched in Copenhagen in early 2025, connecting riders with licensed taxi drivers, and announced the purchase of Dantaxi in May 2025. Trips are priced under the Danish taxi rules and the price is shown in the app before you book. Some UberX requests are fulfilled by a limousine.
Is Uber cheaper than a taxi in Copenhagen?
Not by design. Both are licensed taxi trips priced under the same Danish rules, and taxi companies publish comparable "door prices" for a 10 km, 12-minute trip; TAXA 4x35 lists DKK 230 on weekdays. The difference is mainly how you order and whether the price is fixed before you go.
How much is a private car from Copenhagen Airport to the city?
A fixed Elly8.net transfer from CPH to Kongens Nytorv costs from US$115 in a business sedan, US$150 in a business SUV and US$205 in a First Class Sedan to US$300 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, including the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet.
Is the metro better than Uber from the airport?
For one or two travellers with light bags, usually yes. The metro takes about 14 minutes to the centre, runs around the clock and costs DKK 30 for a 3-zone adult ticket. A car makes more sense with checked luggage, children or a hotel away from a station.
Do Copenhagen taxis take cards?
Generally yes. Uber's Copenhagen page says taxis typically take cash or card, but limousines that pick up Uber requests have no card terminal and are paid in the app. TAXA 4x35 lists cash, cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay in the car.
Can a car be booked for a full day of meetings?
Yes. The corporate roadshow day costs from US$810 in a business sedan to US$1,620 in an Executive Sprinter, with the car waiting between meetings. Hourly bookings start at US$90 an hour with a 3-hour minimum, and corporate accounts invoice monthly.
