Charles de Gaulle Airport sits north-east of Paris, and the drive to the 8th arrondissement is about 29 km (18 mi), roughly 32 minutes on a clear road. That clear road is the exception rather than the rule: the motorway into the city and the ring road around it are among the busiest in France, and a weekday arrival from North America often lands straight into the morning commute, when the same trip can take an hour or more.
A pre-booked Elly8.net car from CDG to central Paris costs from US$170 in a business sedan to US$445 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, fixed and all-in, whatever the traffic does. Below: the routes in, routed drive times to the districts where most visitors stay, the honest comparison with the official taxi and the train, and which vehicle carries which luggage.
How long is the drive from CDG to Paris city center?
The drive from Charles de Gaulle to the 8th arrondissement is about 29 km (18 mi) and takes around 32 minutes on a clear road. At weekday rush hours, on Friday evenings and before holidays, plan on 60 minutes or more. A pre-booked Elly8.net transfer costs from US$170 per vehicle whatever the traffic.
The motorway does most of the work. Cars leave the airport road system for the A1, run south past Saint-Denis and the Stade de France, and enter the city at the northern edge, where the Boulevard Périphérique ring road distributes traffic around Paris. From there your chauffeur chooses the approach to your address: across the 17th and down to the Étoile for the Golden Triangle, through the 9th for Opéra, or around the ring to a southern gate for the Left Bank.
The variable is never distance. It is the time of day, roadworks and events at the Stade de France or the trade fair grounds north of the city. Which is why a fare fixed in advance matters more on this route than on almost any other airport run in Europe.
Routed drive times to the main hotel districts
The 8th arrondissement figure below is our published reference. The other rows are routed estimates we calculated from the Terminal 2 area on a clear road, using public road-routing data; real times are longer at peak hours. All of these addresses are covered by the same fixed airport fares as the 8th, which apply to most of central Paris.
| From CDG to | Road distance | Clear-road drive | Typical rush-hour reality |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8th arrondissement, Champs-Élysées | 29 km / 18 mi | about 32 min | 60 min or more |
| Opéra and the 9th (routed estimate) | 31 km / 19 mi | about 35 min | 60 min or more |
| Gare du Nord (routed estimate) | 27 km / 17 mi | about 31 min | 50 min or more |
| Le Marais (routed estimate) | 30 km / 19 mi | about 39 min | 65 min or more |
| Saint-Germain-des-Prés (routed estimate) | 33 km / 21 mi | about 40 min | 70 min or more |
| Eiffel Tower, 7th (routed estimate) | 33 km / 20 mi | about 40 min | 70 min or more |
| La Défense (routed estimate) | 33 km / 21 mi | about 36 min | 60 min or more |
The rush-hour column is a planning margin, not a promise: on a quiet Sunday morning you may beat the clear-road figure, and on a wet Friday before a school holiday you may double it. For an onward reservation, a show or a meeting, build the margin into your plans rather than into your nerves.
Right Bank addresses. The 8th, 1st, 2nd, 9th and 16th are the quicker side from CDG, because the motorway enters Paris from the north. Golden Triangle hotels on Avenue Montaigne and Avenue George V, and the Opéra area, are usually the first stops of the morning.
Left Bank addresses. Saint-Germain, the 7th and Montparnasse mean crossing the Seine, which adds time in central traffic. If you are flying a route that offers Orly instead, the southern airport is the shorter drive for these districts; the fixed fare from Orly to the 8th starts at US$135.
La Défense. The business district is just west of the city limits, and the chauffeur can stay on the ring road and its western connections rather than crossing the centre. Roadshow teams often go straight there from the plane; see corporate car service for how those days run.
Peak hours, events and the weeks to watch
Paris traffic follows a familiar pattern: inbound congestion on weekday mornings, outbound in the evening, and a long Friday afternoon. Overnight flights from the East Coast and Canada typically land in the morning, so an arriving traveller often meets the inbound peak head-on; a later arrival can find a lighter road.
Some weeks are heavier than any timetable suggests. The Paris Air Show returns to Le Bourget from 14 to 20 June 2027, according to the Paris Air Show organisers, and Le Bourget sits right beside the A1. Shows at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre, run by Viparis, fill the roads near the airport, and events at the Stade de France empty onto the same motorway. If your arrival coincides with one of these, add margin, and tell the desk about any connection you have to make.
None of this changes your price. The fare is set when you book, so a two-hour crawl costs the same as a clear run.
Taxi, RER B, bus or a pre-booked chauffeur: what each really costs
Paris has good public options from CDG, and for some travellers they are the right answer. According to the Paris tourist office's CDG guide, official taxis charge regulated fixed fares in both directions in 2026: €56 to or from the Right Bank and €65 to or from the Left Bank. The tourist office's taxi guide lists the only permitted extras: €5.50 per passenger from the fifth onward, and €4 for an immediate booking or €7 for an advance booking. No luggage surcharge is allowed, and every Paris taxi must accept a card.
The train is cheaper still. Île-de-France Mobilités sets the Paris Region to Airports ticket at €14 per trip, at rates applicable since 1 January 2026, valid on the RER B to Charles de Gaulle. Express bus 9517 links the airport with the Saint-Denis Pleyel hub in about 30 minutes on a standard €2.05 bus ticket, and the long-running Roissybus to Opéra was discontinued on 1 March 2026, per the tourist office.
| Option | Price | Door to door? | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RER B to central stations | €14 per person | No, ends at a station | Carry it through stations | One traveller, light bags, daytime |
| Bus 9517 plus metro line 14 | €2.05 bus ticket plus metro fare | No | Light bags only | Budget travellers who know the network |
| Official taxi from the rank | €56 Right Bank, €65 Left Bank, per car | Yes | No luggage surcharge, limited boot | Two travellers, normal bags, no booking |
| Rideshare app | Varies with demand | Yes | Depends on the car sent | Light travellers comfortable with apps |
| Elly8.net business sedan | US$170 fixed, per vehicle | Yes, with meet and greet | 2 bags | Couples who want a name board and a fixed price |
| Elly8.net business SUV or van | US$225 fixed, per vehicle | Yes | 6 bags | Families of four with transatlantic luggage |
| Elly8.net Executive Sprinter | US$445 fixed, per vehicle | Yes | 12 bags | Groups up to 12 in one vehicle |
The honest reading of that table: if you are one person with a carry-on staying near Gare du Nord or Châtelet, take the RER B. If you are two people with ordinary bags and no special needs, the official taxi at a fixed €56 or €65 is fair value, and taxis enjoy priority access to bus lanes, which the tourist office notes often speeds them through traffic. The cost of the taxi is the queue at the rank after a wave of morning arrivals and the luck of the car you get.
A pre-booked chauffeur earns its price on everything around the drive: a name board in the arrivals hall instead of a queue, child seats already fitted, a vehicle sized to your luggage before you land, and a price agreed weeks ahead in US dollars. The fuller argument, with the situations where each option wins, is on chauffeur vs taxi and chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft.
One caution that applies to everyone: the tourist office warns travellers never to accept rides from people who approach them inside the terminal. Official taxis are only in the marked queues outside, and private hire cars must be booked in advance.
The CDG Express in 2027
A new rail link changes the picture next spring. The Paris tourist office reports that the CDG Express is scheduled to open on 28 March 2027, running nonstop between Gare de l'Est and Terminal 2 in 20 minutes, every 15 minutes from 5 am to midnight, for around €25 one way. It will be the fastest way into the city for a solo traveller with light bags heading to the north-east of Paris.
It will not change the door-to-door question. Gare de l'Est is still a station, and from there you need a taxi, the metro or a walk to your hotel. For families, groups and anyone with heavy cases, the case for a car that waits for you at the terminal stays the same.
Which vehicle for your luggage
Choose the vehicle by bags first and passengers second; it is the mistake travellers make most often on a transatlantic arrival. These are the capacities listed on our fleet page, and each class has a fixed CDG fare.
| Vehicle class | Passengers | Bags | CDG to the 8th, one way | CDG round trip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | 3 | 2 | US$170 | US$325 |
| First Class Sedan | 3 | 2 | US$300 | US$570 |
| Business SUV / Van | 6 | 6 | US$225 | US$430 |
| First Class SUV | 6 | 6 | US$275 | US$525 |
| Executive Sprinter | 12 | 12 | US$445 | US$850 |
A couple with two large cases fits a sedan. A couple with two large cases, two carry-ons and a garment bag is an SUV. A family of four with transatlantic luggage and a stroller is always an SUV or van, and two families travelling together fit one Sprinter. The fares above are per vehicle, not per person; dividing the Sprinter fare by ten travellers is simple arithmetic for comparison, not how the price is set.
What the fare includes, and what is billed at cost
Every published fare includes the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet inside arrivals. The chauffeur tracks your flight, so an early landing or a late one is followed automatically, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary, which absorbs the usual passport and baggage delays at CDG. Tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost.
Airport transfer fares are the same in both directions. If you are leaving Paris from CDG at the end of the trip, the fare from your hotel in the 8th to the airport is the same US$170 in a business sedan, and booking both legs as a round trip costs from US$325. How the hand-over works inside the terminal is explained on airport meet and greet, and the full service is on Paris airport transfers.
For the hours before and after the drive itself, from passport control to finding the chauffeur, read our companion guide on booking a Paris airport transfer that is waiting when you land.
Going straight from CDG to a meeting or a day out
Not every arrival ends at a hotel. Some travellers go straight to a meeting in La Défense, a showroom appointment in the 3rd, or a lunch reservation before check-in. For those days, book the airport pickup and then the car by the hour, from US$90 an hour in a business sedan with a 3-hour minimum, and keep the luggage in the vehicle while you work. Companies that do this often open a corporate account with monthly invoicing.
Others land and head out of the city. Champagne is east, not south, so a CDG arrival is a good start for that day; see our guide to Paris to Champagne by car. For any address that is not on the price list, the web booker returns a fixed fare before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a car from CDG to Paris city center?
A pre-booked Elly8.net transfer from Charles de Gaulle to the 8th arrondissement costs from US$170 in a business sedan, US$225 in a business SUV and US$445 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. The price includes the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet. Tolls and parking are billed at cost.
How long does CDG to central Paris take by car?
About 32 minutes on a clear road to the 8th arrondissement, a distance of about 29 km (18 mi). At weekday rush hours and on Friday evenings, an hour or more is common. Left Bank addresses take longer because the car must cross the Seine in central traffic.
Is a taxi from CDG cheaper than a chauffeur?
Usually, yes. Official Paris taxis charge fixed fares of €56 to the Right Bank and €65 to the Left Bank in 2026, per car. A chauffeur costs more but adds a name board in arrivals, a vehicle sized to your luggage, child seats on request and a price fixed in US$ before you fly.
Is the RER B a good way from CDG to Paris?
For one traveller with light bags heading to a station on the line, yes. The Paris Region to Airports ticket costs €14. The RER B ends at stations such as Gare du Nord and Châtelet, so you still need to reach your hotel, often with stairs and long corridors.
Does traffic change the price of my transfer?
No. The fare is fixed when you book, so a slow morning on the motorway costs the same as a clear run. Only tolls, parking and waiting beyond the included time are billed at cost, and waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary.
Is the fare the same from Paris back to CDG?
Yes. Airport fares are the same fixed price in either direction, so a departure from the 8th to CDG costs from US$170 in a business sedan. A round trip booked together costs from US$325 in a business sedan to US$850 in an Executive Sprinter.
