A Boston prom limo is usually booked by one parent on behalf of a group of six to twelve students, and the booking goes well when that parent settles four things early: the head count, who pays and how, a written itinerary with every address and time, and the rules for the night. The vehicle itself is the easy part. On Elly8.net, a Business SUV for up to six students is US$625 on the evening out package and a 12-seat Executive Sprinter is US$1,000, both fixed and all-in.
This guide is organised as a timeline, from the first group chat to the last drop-off, so you can see what needs deciding when. Rides in Boston are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk, and the chauffeur follows local rules throughout the evening.
What should parents check before booking a prom limo in Boston?
Confirm the head count and choose a vehicle with a seat belt for every student, get the price per vehicle with taxes and gratuity included, write down every pickup, stop and drop-off with times, agree the rules on conduct and alcohol, and check the cancellation terms. Ask whether the operator is licensed and commercially insured.
The rest of this checklist turns those points into a plan. If you only read one section, read the itinerary section: most prom-night problems come from an itinerary that lived in a group chat rather than in the booking.
Eight weeks out: the head count and the vehicle
Prom groups grow and shrink. Agree a firm list with the other parents before you book, and pick the vehicle for that number, not the hoped-for number.
| Students | Vehicle | Seats | Evening out package | Per student |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| up to 3 | Business Sedan or First Class Sedan | up to 3 | US$500 or US$800 | from about US$167 |
| 4 to 6 | Business SUV | up to 6 | US$625 | about US$104 for six |
| 4 to 6 | First Class SUV | up to 6 | US$750 | US$125 for six |
| 7 to 8 | Stretch Limousine | up to 8 | priced in the web booker | divide by the group |
| 9 to 12 | Executive Sprinter | up to 12 | US$1,000 | about US$83 for twelve |
The Executive Sprinter is often the best value for a larger group, and its forward-facing seats and high roof make it easy for students in formal clothes to get in and out. A classic stretch limousine has the look many students want; it is priced for your exact route in the web booker. Our prom limousine page compares the options, and black car vs limousine explains the difference in ride and cost.
If the group is bigger than twelve, book two vehicles rather than squeezing. Every student needs a seat with a seat belt.
Six weeks out: who pays, and how
Money is where prom bookings get awkward. The simplest approach is for one parent to book and pay by card, and for the other families to reimburse that parent. Because Elly8.net prices are per vehicle and include taxes and standard gratuity, the number at checkout is the whole number, which makes splitting it fair and simple: divide the price by the number of students.
Things to agree with the other parents before anyone pays:
- The vehicle and the package or number of hours.
- What happens if a student drops out after booking. Our cancellation schedule is fixed: more than 72 hours before pickup is free; 72 hours or less is 10%; 48 hours or less is 50%; 24 hours or less, or a no-show, is 100%. Refunds go to the original card, so the booking parent handles them.
- Who is the parent contact for the night, and who is the student contact in the vehicle.
Four weeks out: the written itinerary
Write the night down and put it in the booking notes. A good itinerary includes:
- First pickup, with the exact address and time.
- Every other pickup, in order. Each extra address in a different town adds time; three pickups across the suburbs can take most of an hour.
- The photo stop. Many Boston groups take photos in the Public Garden, on the Common or by the Charles River. The Common and the Public Garden are city parks run by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. Give the chauffeur a drop-off and pickup corner, because parking around the parks is very limited.
- Dinner, if there is one, with the restaurant address and the reservation time.
- The prom venue, with the arrival time the school has set. Schools often have their own rules for arrival times and for students leaving early; check them and plan the car around them.
- The end of the night: the pickup time and location at the venue, and every drop-off address, in order.
- Names and mobile numbers for the parent contact and one student contact.
Send any changes to the 24/7 desk before the night, not to the chauffeur by text during it, so the plan stays in one place.
Two weeks out: the safety questions
Whichever company you use, ask these questions and get the answers in writing:
- Is the operator licensed and commercially insured? With Elly8.net, every Boston ride is operated by a licensed, commercially insured local partner vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network.
- How old is the vehicle? Our partner vehicles are 4 model years or newer.
- Does every seat have a seat belt? It should, and students should wear them.
- Will the chauffeur stay with the vehicle? On an evening package or hourly booking, the chauffeur waits at the venue for the end-of-night pickup.
- What are the rules on alcohol? The chauffeur follows local rules on alcohol in vehicles. No alcohol should be part of a prom booking, and conduct that puts students or the vehicle at risk ends the booking.
- For buses, if the operator has a USDOT number, its record can be checked on the federal SAFER Company Snapshot system.
The week of prom: confirm everything
Three days before, confirm the final head count and itinerary with the desk. The day before, you receive the chauffeur's details. On the day, the parent contact keeps a phone on and the student contact has the chauffeur's name and the agreed pickup points. If something changes on the night, the parent calls the 24/7 desk, and the desk updates the chauffeur.
On the night
The chauffeur arrives at the first pickup a little before the booked time, ready for photos at the door. Between stops the vehicle stays with the group. At the venue, the chauffeur waits or stages nearby and returns to the agreed pickup point at the agreed time. At the end of the night, the drop-offs follow the order in the itinerary. If a student wants to leave early, the parent contact calls the desk; the plan is changed by the parent, not by students in the car.
If the group is going on to an organised after-prom event, put that address and the end time in the itinerary too. A long night may run past the evening package, and extra time is billed at the hourly rate for the vehicle: US$125 an hour in a Business SUV and US$200 in an Executive Sprinter. Our post on the Boston party bus shows how to count hours for a long night.
Why May in Boston books up early
Prom season overlaps with graduation season. Boston University's All-University Commencement is on Sunday, May 16, 2027, according to BU, and other colleges hold ceremonies through May, when hotels, restaurants and vehicles are in heavy demand across the city. Wedding Saturdays begin at the same time. The price on our list does not change with the date, but the number of available vehicles does, so book as soon as the date is set. Free cancellation more than 72 hours before pickup keeps early booking low-risk.
Why not just use rideshare?
For a prom, app rides create problems a single booked vehicle does not: the group arrives in several cars at different times, nobody controls who rides with whom, the price is set at the moment of request, and the end-of-night pickup at a crowded venue depends on finding several drivers at once. A booked vehicle keeps the group together with one responsible adult on the phone and a fixed price paid in advance. For the general comparison, see chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft.
Graduation nights and senior events
The same planning works for graduation dinners, senior formals and end-of-year celebrations that follow prom in May and June. For a family going to a ceremony, an hourly booking covers the ceremony, the photos and a lunch: a Business SUV is US$125 an hour and an Executive Sprinter, which carries grandparents and siblings together, is US$200 an hour, both with a three-hour minimum. For school-organised group trips, our group transportation page explains how we handle larger manifests, and the event transportation page covers formal evenings.
Proms outside the city
Many Boston-area proms are held at hotels and function venues outside the city, along Route 128, on the North Shore or the South Shore. The same checklist applies; distance changes only the timing and, if you book hourly, the hours. Enter the exact addresses in the booker and the price is fixed before you pay. Students who travel from farther afield, or families in Rhode Island, can use our Providence car service.
If the same families are planning a graduation weekend or a family wedding later in the year, our guides to Boston limo rental prices and the Boston wedding limo cover those bookings.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a prom limo cost in Boston?
On Elly8.net, the evening out package is US$500 in a Business Sedan, US$625 in a Business SUV for up to six and US$1,000 in a 12-seat Executive Sprinter, each fixed and all-in with taxes and standard gratuity. Stretch limousines are priced in the web booker. Divide by the group for the per-student cost.
How far ahead should we book a prom limo?
As soon as the prom date and head count are settled, ideally two months ahead. May is busy in Boston because prom, graduation and wedding season overlap. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, so holding a vehicle early carries little risk.
Can a parent book and pay for the whole group?
Yes. One parent books and pays by card and is the contact for the desk; the other families reimburse that parent. Because the price is per vehicle and all-in, splitting it is simple. Refunds, if any, go back to the card used for the booking.
Is alcohol allowed in a prom limo?
No alcohol should be part of a prom booking. The chauffeur follows local rules on alcohol in vehicles, and conduct that puts students or the vehicle at risk ends the booking. Parents should agree the rules with the students before the night.
Can the group change stops during the night?
Changes should come from the parent contact through the 24/7 desk, which updates the chauffeur. Small changes on an evening package are usually fine; time beyond the booked package is billed at the hourly rate for the vehicle.
Do students have to wear seat belts?
Yes. Every student needs a seat with a seat belt, and they should wear them. That is why the vehicle should be chosen for the real head count, with two vehicles booked for groups larger than the seats available.
