A private driver in San Antonio is most useful once you step away from the River Walk. Downtown is walkable, but the missions, the Pearl, the theme parks on the northwest side, the Medical Center, the military bases and the Hill Country towns all sit a car ride apart, and the loops and interstates that connect them are busy at the usual hours. On Elly8.net, a driver by the hour starts at US$95 in a Business Sedan, with a three-hour minimum, and full days and Hill Country trips are fixed packages from US$700.
This guide is for visitors and locals booking a car: the parts of the city people go to, how long the drives take, when traffic slows, which vehicle suits which day, and how to book so the plan works. Rides in San Antonio are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.

The city by area: where a driver helps
Downtown and the River Walk. The core is compact and walkable, and VIA's VIVA routes connect downtown hotels with the convention center, the museums and visitor sights, according to the airport's public transportation page. A driver earns its keep here on arrival with bags, for a dinner across town, and when hotel entrances matter: many River Walk hotels have a street door and a river door, and cars work at street level.
The Pearl. The Pearl is the former brewery district on the river north of downtown, home to Hotel Emma, restaurants and markets. It is a short drive from the downtown hotels and a popular stop on an evening out.
The missions. South of downtown, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park protects Spanish colonial mission sites and is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas. Mission San José is about 5 miles (8 km) from the River Walk, roughly 11 minutes on a clear road, and the park lists ranger tours there at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Visiting several missions in a morning is exactly what the four-hour tour is for.
The Alamo. The Alamo sits in Alamo Plaza a short walk from the river. Most visitors walk; a driver helps when the Alamo is one stop in a longer day.
Alamo Heights, the Medical Center and Stone Oak. North of downtown, these are where many business visits, medical appointments and family stays happen. Each sits about 7 to 10 miles from the airport, and a driver by the hour handles a day of appointments across them without parking at each stop.
The northwest and west: theme parks, La Cantera and the Rim. Six Flags Fiesta Texas and SeaWorld San Antonio are on the city's northwest and west sides, each about 16 to 17 miles (26 to 27 km) from the River Walk, roughly 27 minutes on a clear road. A family day at either suits an SUV dropped at the gate and collected at closing; see Six Flags Fiesta Texas for park hours before you set the pickup.
The bases. San Antonio has a large military presence. Base visits follow each installation's own access rules, so confirm gate and visitor arrangements with your host before you book a drop-off.
Traffic: when San Antonio slows down
San Antonio's road network is built around two loops, Loop 410 and Loop 1604, crossed by I-35, I-10, I-37 and US-281. Distances look short on a map but slow at predictable times:
- Weekday rush hours. Morning and late-afternoon peaks on the loops, I-35 and US-281 add time to any trip that crosses the city, especially to and from the airport and the northern suburbs.
- Downtown event nights. Conventions, games and concerts fill the streets around the convention center and the Alamodome.
- Fiesta. Fiesta San Antonio runs April 15 to 25, 2027, and parade routes close downtown streets for hours. Hourly bookings work best, with drop-off and pickup points planned around the closures.
- Theme park closing time. Everyone leaves at once; a pickup point agreed in advance beats waiting for an app ride in the lot.
The practical advice: book the time you need, add half an hour of slack for cross-town legs at peak times, and let the chauffeur choose the route. For an early flight out of SAT, the airport run from the River Walk is about 22 minutes on a clear road, but leave more margin on a weekday morning, when the northbound routes towards the airport are at their busiest.

The Hill Country day
The signature San Antonio day trip is the eight-hour Texas Hill Country package, from US$700 in a Business Sedan to US$1,400 in an Executive Sprinter. Three towns cover most requests:
- Fredericksburg, founded in 1846 by German settlers, known for its wineries and Main Street; see Visit Fredericksburg. At about an hour and twenty minutes each way, it fills most of the day.
- Boerne, under forty minutes from the River Walk, a lighter half-day with lunch; see Visit Boerne.
- Gruene, on the banks of the Guadalupe River in the area its own site calls the Hill Country Coast; see Gruene, Texas.
Tasting happens at the wineries, never in the vehicle, and the chauffeur follows Texas rules on alcohol. Book winery tastings ahead and send the times to the desk; our wine tours page explains how tasting days are planned.
Which vehicle for which day
- Business Sedan: a business day of meetings, a couple's dinner, a solo trip to the missions.
- First Class Sedan: an executive visit or a special occasion.
- Business SUV: families, theme park days, golf, luggage-heavy arrivals, child seats.
- First Class SUV: a premium day for up to six.
- Executive Sprinter: conference teams, wedding guests, a Hill Country winery group of up to twelve.
Seats and bags for each class are on the fleet page. For weddings and quinceañeras, see wedding limousine; for groups, Sprinter van with driver.
Booking tips from the desk
- Book the time, not the trip. For a day with several stops, an hourly booking or a package is simpler and usually cheaper than several one-way rides.
- Send the plan. A list of stops and fixed appointments, such as a mission tour or a winery tasting, lets the desk set the pickup time and route.
- Name the entrance. For River Walk hotels, give the street entrance you want.
- Ask for child seats in advance. Give ages and number of seats.
- Use a corporate account for business. A corporate car service account adds monthly invoicing and NDAs on request, and the roadshow day keeps one car for ten hours.
Arriving by air? Our San Antonio airport car service guide covers meet and greet at SAT and the fixed US$150 to US$390 fares to the River Walk. Going on to Austin, the same trade-offs apply as on any intercity run; our Nashville to Louisville guide sets out how a private car compares with the bus and driving yourself, and the Austin page has fixed prices at the other end.
When you do not need a driver
Be fair to the alternatives. If you are staying on the River Walk and your plans are downtown, walking and VIA's downtown routes will cover most of it. A taxi or app ride is fine for a single short trip at a quiet hour. Our chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft guide sets out where each fits. A private driver is the better buy for a day with several stops, a group, a family with child seats, a Fiesta night, a theme park closing time or the Hill Country.
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 10% applies at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, refunded to the original card. Every package is on the San Antonio page.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a private driver in San Antonio per hour?
US$95 an hour in a Business Sedan, US$120 in a Business SUV, US$145 in a First Class SUV, US$155 in a First Class Sedan and US$190 in an Executive Sprinter, with a three-hour minimum. Prices are all-in per vehicle, including taxes and standard gratuity; tolls and parking are billed at cost.
Can a driver take us to the missions?
Yes. Mission San José is about 11 minutes from the River Walk on a clear road, and the four-hour private city highlights tour, from US$380 in a Business Sedan, covers several missions with the car waiting at each. The park lists ranger tours at Mission San José at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Is a Hill Country day trip worth it?
For a group that wants to taste at wineries, yes: nobody has to drive. The eight-hour package runs from US$700 in a Business Sedan to US$1,400 in an Executive Sprinter. Fredericksburg is about an hour and twenty minutes each way; Boerne and Gruene are under an hour.
How bad is San Antonio traffic?
Manageable outside rush hour. Weekday peaks on Loop 410, Loop 1604, I-35 and US-281 add time to cross-town trips, and downtown slows on event nights and during Fiesta, when parade routes close streets. Add half an hour of slack to cross-town legs at peak times.
Can we book a driver for a theme park day?
Yes. A Business SUV is the usual choice for a family. Book a drop-off and a collection at closing time, or keep the car by the hour if the day includes other stops. Agree the pickup point before you go in, because everyone leaves at closing time.
Can you drive us from San Antonio to Austin?
Yes. Downtown Austin is about 79 miles (128 km) from the River Walk, roughly an hour and a half on a clear road. The trip is quoted by exact address in the web booker as a city to city car service, fixed before you pay, and Austin has its own fixed prices for the return.
