A Pittsburgh airport transfer is a longer run than many visitors expect: Pittsburgh International (PIT) is about 17 miles (27 km) west of downtown, around 28 minutes on a clear road and 45 minutes or more when the Fort Pitt Tunnel backs up. That distance is the reason a fixed price helps here. A metered ride keeps counting through tunnel traffic; a flat rate does not.
On Elly8.net the transfer between PIT and downtown Pittsburgh is US$175 in a business sedan, US$230 in a business SUV and US$455 in an Executive Sprinter, the same fixed price in either direction, with the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet included. This guide walks through the pickup step by step.
How does a Pittsburgh airport transfer work?
You book with your flight number, the chauffeur tracks the flight and waits inside the arrivals area of PIT's landside terminal with a name board, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. You collect your bags, walk out to the car together and ride to your address for a fixed price: from US$175 in a business sedan to downtown.
There are three parts to get right: the booking details, the meeting in the terminal, and the drive. The sections below take them in order, and the Pittsburgh car service page has the full price list.
See Pittsburgh prices and reserve
Step 1: what to give us when you book
- Flight number and date. This is what lets the chauffeur track the arrival. If you change flights, update the booking or tell the 24/7 desk.
- Number of passengers and bags. Including golf bags, ski bags, strollers and equipment cases. The vehicle has to fit everything.
- The drop-off address. Downtown hotels, Oakland, the North Shore, Shadyside or a home in the suburbs. Downtown is on the fixed price list; other addresses are priced in the web booker before you pay.
- Child seats. Give ages and weights and the seats are fitted before pickup.
- A mobile number that works on arrival. The chauffeur may message you when the plane lands.
Step 2: the walk from the gate to the meeting point
Pittsburgh International now runs from its rebuilt landside terminal, which the airport calls the Transformed PIT. Arriving passengers cross from the gates to the landside terminal by the Skybridge, and the terminal's North and South Inclines, long escalators, carry passengers between the first and third levels, bypassing the second floor. Signs lead to baggage claim, and ground transportation is on the ground level.
Your chauffeur waits inside arrivals with a name board, so you do not need to go outside or find a curb. The new terminal also includes the Welcome Point, an indoor area with seating and concessions built for people meeting arriving passengers; if your flight lands early or you are delayed at the carousel, the chauffeur waits inside rather than circling the roadway.
If you are travelling with a colleague on a different flight, tell us. One chauffeur can meet both if the arrivals are close together; otherwise we book two cars so nobody waits.
Step 3: waiting, delays and early landings
Delays. We track the flight, so a late arrival simply moves the meeting time. You are not charged for the airline's delay.
Early landings. The chauffeur adjusts to the actual landing, and complimentary waiting after a tracked landing gives you time to reach the carousel and collect bags at your own pace.
Long waits at baggage claim or customs. If your bags are slow, or you arrive on an international flight that clears customs first, message the chauffeur or the desk. Waiting beyond the included time is billed at cost, never as a round-up to the next hour.
Missed connections. If you miss a connection and land on a later flight, update the flight number in the booking or tell the desk. The pickup moves with you.
Step 4: the drive into Pittsburgh
The route east runs on I-376, the Parkway West, through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and onto the Fort Pitt Bridge, where the downtown skyline appears all at once. The tunnel is the main bottleneck, especially at the evening peak, on Steelers Sundays and when a large convention opens at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
| Destination from PIT | Distance | Clear road | At peak | Business Sedan | Executive Sprinter |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Pittsburgh | about 17 mi (27 km) | about 28 min | 45 min or more | US$175 | US$455 |
| Oakland, North Shore, Shadyside | a little beyond downtown | allow extra time | longer at peak | web booker | web booker |
| Round trip to downtown | both ways | as above | as above | US$335 | US$865 |
The fixed price does not change with traffic. Tolls and parking, if any, are billed at cost.
Which vehicle fits your bags
| Vehicle | Passengers | Bags | PIT to downtown | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Sedan | up to 3 | 2 | US$175 | one or two travellers |
| First Class Sedan | up to 3 | 2 | US$310 | executives and VIP guests |
| Business SUV | up to 6 | 6 | US$230 | families, golf bags, child seats |
| First Class SUV | up to 6 | 6 | US$280 | premium family or team travel |
| Executive Sprinter | up to 12 | 12 | US$455 | teams, wedding parties, recruiting groups |
When in doubt, size up. Two people with four large suitcases fit an SUV better than a sedan, and a family of four with a stroller and a car seat needs the SUV. Every class is described on the fleet page. For groups larger than 12, the desk books two vehicles that travel together; see group transportation.
Flat rate vs metered: what the difference means here
At PIT, taxis are run by permitted operators. The airport lists them on its ground transportation page as operators holding an Allegheny County Airport Authority permit and asks passengers to contact operators directly for the cost; there is no published airport flat rate. In Pennsylvania, taxis must charge fares approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, which can be based on a flat rate, mileage, a meter or zones.
On a 17-mile ride with a tunnel in the middle, a meter means the price depends on the traffic you meet. Rideshare apps set a price when you request, which can rise when several flights land at once or an event lets out. A pre-booked flat rate removes both: you know the total before you leave home, and it is the same at 5 p.m. on a Friday as at 11 a.m. on a Tuesday.
That does not make a private car the right choice for everyone. One traveller with a carry-on heading downtown or to Oakland can take the 28X Airport Flyer bus for US$2.75. Our comparison of the Pittsburgh airport shuttle, the 28X and a private car sets out when each one wins.
Going to the airport
The same fixed price applies in the other direction: US$175 in a business sedan from downtown to PIT. The chauffeur collects you at the hotel lobby or your front door and drops you at the departures level of the terminal. For a domestic flight, we suggest leaving downtown at least two and a half hours before departure to allow for the tunnel and security; earlier on Monday mornings and before holidays.
Early-morning departures are common in Pittsburgh. Book the evening before at the latest, and add any change of plans to the booking rather than relying on a call on the day.
Arriving for a game, a convention or a campus visit
Steelers and Pitt football weekends. Acrisure Stadium on the North Shore hosts the Steelers on Sundays and Pitt football on Saturdays in the autumn. On those days the inbound Parkway and the North Shore bridges fill hours before kickoff. If you land on a game day, allow extra time and tell us if the drop-off is near the stadium; the chauffeur will choose a route and a stopping point away from the crowds. See sports event transportation.
Conventions. When a large show opens at the convention center, flights fill, hotel driveways downtown get busy and rideshare demand jumps at the same hours. Anthrocon returns July 1 to 4, 2027, according to Anthrocon, one of the convention center's best-known annual events. Exhibitors and speakers can book conference transportation, with Sprinters timed to the main arrival banks.
Campus visits. Families visiting the universities in Oakland usually arrive with more luggage than they expect. A business SUV at US$230 to downtown, or an Oakland address priced in the booker, saves the walk from a bus stop with bags.
Booking for someone else
Assistants, planners and hosts often book PIT pickups for guests. Put the passenger's name and mobile number in the booking, not yours, so the name board and any messages reach the right person. Add a note if the guest needs help with luggage or mobility, or if they should be taken to a specific entrance at a hotel or campus building. The confirmation can go to you, and the 24/7 desk can make changes on the guest's behalf. Hotels and travel agents who book regularly can use the hotel partner and travel agents accounts.
Business travellers, teams and accounts
Pittsburgh's universities, hospitals and technology companies bring a steady flow of visiting researchers, candidates and executives. Companies can open corporate accounts with monthly invoicing and saved traveller profiles, and book every PIT arrival through one desk. For a day of meetings after landing, book an hourly chauffeur from US$95 an hour with a three-hour minimum, or the corporate roadshow day from US$855 in a business sedan. More on corporate car service.
Private flyers using general aviation facilities can book the same way; see private jet and FBO transfers.

US$175 in a business sedan, US$230 in a business SUV, US$280 in a First Class SUV, US$310 in a First Class Sedan and US$455 in an Executive Sprinter, fixed and all-in per vehicle. The same price applies from downtown to the airport. A business sedan round trip is US$335.
Where does my chauffeur meet me at PIT?
Inside the arrivals area of the landside terminal, holding a name board. You do not need to cross to the rideshare pickup opposite Door 7 or find the taxi area. If you are delayed at baggage claim, message the chauffeur and they wait inside.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track the flight and move the pickup to the actual landing, with complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. You are not charged for an airline delay. If you change to a different flight, update the flight number in the booking or tell the 24/7 desk.
How long is the drive from PIT to downtown?
About 28 minutes on a clear road for roughly 17 miles (27 km) via I-376 and the Fort Pitt Tunnel. At rush hour, on Steelers Sundays or with a tunnel backup, allow 45 minutes or more. The fixed fare does not change with the traffic.
Can you take us to Oakland or the suburbs?
Yes. Downtown is on the fixed price list; Oakland, Shadyside, the North Shore and suburban addresses are priced in the web booker before you pay, with the same inclusions: chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet.
Do you provide child seats for the airport run?
Yes, on request. Add each child's age and weight when you book and the seats are fitted before pickup. A business SUV gives room for strollers and luggage on the longer PIT ride.
