A Park City airport shuttle and a private car do the same 38-mile (62 km) trip from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), but they price it in opposite ways. A shared shuttle charges per seat and stops for other passengers. An Elly8.net private car charges per vehicle, fixed before you fly: US$305 for a Business Sedan (up to 3), US$400 for a Business SUV (up to 6) and US$795 for an Executive Sprinter (up to 12), all-in, straight to your door.
So the cheaper choice depends mostly on group size, and the better choice depends on what you value: the lowest fare, the shortest wait, or the most comfortable arrival with skis and children. This comparison takes each in turn. Rides in Park City are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
Is a shuttle or a private car cheaper from SLC to Park City?
For one or two travellers, a shared shuttle is usually cheaper, since you pay only for your seats. For four or more, a private car often costs the same or less: an Elly8.net Business SUV is US$400 for up to six, which works out at about US$67 a person for six, as arithmetic only. Compare your shuttle quote times your head count.
Shuttle fares are set by each operator and change with the season, so we do not quote one. What you can do is apply the simple test below to any quote you are given.
See Park City prices and reserve
The break-even test
Multiply the shuttle's per-seat fare by the number of people travelling, both ways if you are booking a return. Then compare that total with the fixed Elly8.net price for the vehicle that fits your group.
| Your group | Elly8.net vehicle | Fixed price, one way | Shuttle fare per seat at which they cost the same |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Business Sedan | US$305 | US$305 |
| 2 | Business Sedan | US$305 | about US$153 |
| 3 | Business Sedan | US$305 | about US$102 |
| 4 with skis | Business SUV | US$400 | US$100 |
| 6 | Business SUV | US$400 | about US$67 |
| 8 | Executive Sprinter | US$795 | about US$99 |
| 12 | Executive Sprinter | US$795 | about US$66 |
The per-seat column is arithmetic for comparison only. Elly8.net prices are per vehicle, never per person. If your shuttle quote per seat is below the figure in the last column, the shuttle is cheaper for your group; if it is above, the private car costs less. Round trips double both sides of the sum: an Elly8.net round trip booked together starts at US$580 in a Business Sedan and US$760 in a Business SUV.
The pattern is clear. Solo travellers and couples almost always save with a shuttle. Families of four or more, and groups that fill an SUV or a Sprinter, often find the private car is no more expensive and sometimes cheaper.
Wait time: where the hours really go
Price is only half of it. The bigger difference is time, and it comes in three places.
At the airport. Shared shuttles group passengers from several flights, so the van may wait for other arrivals or run to a schedule. A private car is matched to your flight alone. With Elly8.net, the desk tracks the flight, the chauffeur waits inside at baggage claim with a name board, and you get complimentary waiting after a tracked landing. If your flight is early, so is the car.
On the way. A shuttle stops at each passenger's lodging. In Park City that can mean Canyons Village, then Old Town, then Deer Valley, in whatever order suits the route. The private car goes straight to your door, about 53 minutes on a clear road.
On departure day. Shuttle pickups for the return are set around everyone's flights, which often means an earlier pickup than you would choose. A private car leaves when you decide. On a winter Sunday, we usually suggest leaving Park City at least three hours before a domestic flight, because the drive can double in snow, but the time is yours to set.
Comfort: skis, children and the last hour of a long day
Luggage. Ski bags, boot bags and hard cases take room. In a shared van, space is shared too. In a private vehicle, it is all yours: a Business SUV takes up to six people with their bags, and an Executive Sprinter takes up to 12 with room for about 12 bags plus skis.
Children. Child seats are available on request with Elly8.net and fitted before pickup. With a shared service, check the operator's policy in advance.
Privacy. A private car means a private conversation, a call to the office, or a sleeping child without strangers. For executives arriving for an offsite, that matters.
The drive itself. I-80 climbs through Parleys Canyon to the summit. The Utah Department of Transportation requires traction devices on designated routes in severe winter weather. Both shuttles and private cars face the same road; the difference is how many stops come after it.
The public transit option, for completeness
There is a third choice, and for the lightest travellers it is the cheapest by far. The airport's public transportation page says the TRAX Green Line station is on the ground level outside the terminal on the east side, through door 1A, with a one-way train fare of US$2.50. From the city, High Valley Transit's free route 107 runs from Salt Lake Central Station to Kimball Junction Transit Center about every 90 minutes, and free local buses continue into Park City. It takes much longer and involves changes, so it suits one person with a backpack, not a family with skis.
Where to find each option at SLC
According to the airport's ground transportation page, shuttle and ground transportation companies with airport counter service are on the ground level of the terminal, hotel transportation picks up on the ground level between columns 1B and 5B, and rideshare uses the signed pickup areas at the B-Lane. Your Elly8.net chauffeur meets you inside at baggage claim and walks you to the vehicle.
Five travellers, five answers
The solo skier with one bag, midweek. Take the shuttle, or transit if time does not matter. A private sedan at US$305 is hard to justify for one person unless you land late or need to be somewhere on time.
The couple on a long weekend. A shuttle is usually cheaper. A private car makes sense if you land at night, want to go straight to a Deer Valley lodge without stops, or would rather fix the price for a storm weekend.
The family of four with skis and a toddler. A Business SUV at US$400 is likely to cost about the same as four shuttle seats, with a fitted child seat, room for the gear and no stops. This is the case where the private car usually wins on every count.
The group of ten for a wedding. One Executive Sprinter at US$795 carries everyone and their bags. That is under US$80 a person as arithmetic, with one pickup and one drop-off. See group transportation.
The executive arriving for a board meeting. A First Class Sedan at US$535 or a Business Sedan at US$305, with the chauffeur waiting inside. Time and privacy decide this one, not the fare. A corporate account gives monthly invoicing for teams.
A ski week, costed both ways
Take a family of five flying in on a Saturday and out the following Saturday, staying near the Deer Valley base.
Private car, round trip: one Business SUV, booked as a round trip, US$760 for the vehicle, fixed and all-in. Both journeys go door to door, the chauffeur meets the arrival inside, and the departure time is theirs. As arithmetic for comparison only, that is US$152 per person for both legs.
Shared shuttle, round trip: ten seats in total, five each way. If the operator's fare is under about US$76 a seat each way, the shuttle is cheaper; above that, the private car is. Add the stops at other lodges and the earlier departure pickup to the comparison, then decide.
A common middle path is to mix them. Take the shuttle in on a relaxed midday arrival, and book the private car home on the Saturday, when the drive down Parleys Canyon is busiest and a missed flight costs far more than the fare. Because every Elly8.net airport fare is the same in either direction, the return alone is US$400 in a Business SUV.
Who meets you, and how
The meeting is where the two services feel most different. A shuttle check-in usually happens at a counter or a curbside stop. Our airport meet and greet service puts a chauffeur at baggage claim with your name, tracking your flight. If you are staying a night in the city first, Salt Lake City car service prices SLC to downtown separately, and travellers heading on to Wyoming can book Jackson Hole car service at fixed prices too.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a shuttle from SLC to Park City?
Shared shuttle fares are set per seat by each operator and vary by season, so we do not quote one. Multiply the per-seat fare by your group size and compare it with a private vehicle: on Elly8.net, US$305 for a Business Sedan, US$400 for a Business SUV and US$795 for an Executive Sprinter.
Is a private car worth it for a family of four?
Usually. Four shuttle seats can cost about as much as an Elly8.net Business SUV at US$400, which carries up to six with skis, fits child seats on request and goes straight to your lodging without stops. If the shuttle quote is well under US$100 a seat, it may still be cheaper.
How long does the shuttle take compared with a private car?
The drive is about 53 minutes on a clear road either way. A shared shuttle adds time for other passengers' arrivals at the airport and their stops in Park City. A private car is matched to your flight and goes straight to your door.
Where do shuttles pick up at Salt Lake City airport?
The airport says shuttle and ground transportation companies with counter service are on the ground level of the terminal. Hotel shuttles pick up on the ground level between columns 1B and 5B. An Elly8.net chauffeur meets you inside at baggage claim instead.
Can we book a private car for the return only?
Yes. Every Elly8.net airport fare is the same fixed price in either direction, so Park City to SLC costs the same as the arrival. Many travellers take a shuttle in and book a private car home to choose their own departure time on a winter Sunday.
Do private cars charge per person?
No. Elly8.net prices are always per vehicle, never per person. A Business SUV costs US$400 from SLC to Park City whether one person rides or six, and an Executive Sprinter costs US$795 for up to 12. Any per-person figure you see in this guide is arithmetic for comparison only.
