A private tour of Mykonos by car is a few hours with your own chauffeur, moving between the town, the windmills, the inland village of Ano Mera, the lighthouse at the island's northern tip and a beach or two, at your pace. Distances are short: by our routed estimates, nowhere on the usual loops is more than about 15 minutes from Mykonos Town on a clear road. What fills the day is the stopping, the narrow lanes and the summer traffic, not the driving.

Through Elly8.net, the private highlights tour costs from US$360 in a business sedan to US$720 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, at a fixed, all-in price in US dollars. You can also keep a car by the hour from US$90, with a 3-hour minimum, or for a full day from US$665. Below are four loops that work, the timing that keeps them pleasant in July and August, and a fair word on when the bus or a taxi does the job instead.

How much does a private tour of Mykonos by car cost?

An Elly8.net private highlights tour of Mykonos costs from US$360 in a business sedan, US$460 in a business SUV, US$540 in a First Class SUV, US$580 in a First Class Sedan and US$720 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle, not per person. The fare is fixed and includes the chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity.

If you prefer to shape the day yourself, the car by the hour costs US$90 in a business sedan, US$115 in a business SUV, US$135 in a First Class SUV, US$145 in a First Class Sedan and US$180 in an Executive Sprinter, with a 3-hour minimum. A full-day chauffeur runs from US$665 in a business sedan to US$1,325 in a Sprinter, which suits a long beach day with lunch and an evening return to town. Parking, where it arises, is billed at cost.

Rides in Mykonos are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk. Every price for the island sits on the Mykonos chauffeur page, together with airport and port transfers.

Mykonos in a car: what to expect before you plan

Mykonos Town, called Chora by locals, is a maze of paved lanes that cars cannot enter. Every tour therefore starts and ends at the edge of town, near the old port or at Fabrika on the south side, where the island's buses and taxis gather. The chauffeur drops you there, you walk into the lanes, and the car waits or comes back at a set time. If you are staying in a hotel inside the lanes, the pickup is at the nearest point a car can reach.

Outside town, the roads are narrow, often walled on both sides, with tight turns and steep stretches to the villas and viewpoints. That is why the choice of vehicle matters more here than in most places. A Business Sedan or First Class Sedan, each seating three with room for two bags, is the easiest car on the lanes. A Business SUV seats up to six and is the usual choice for a family. An Executive Sprinter seats up to twelve; it is right for a group, but the desk checks the stops on your plan with the local partner before confirming, because not every viewpoint road suits a large van.

The other thing to plan around is the season. From late afternoon in July and August, beach traffic heading back to town meets dinner traffic heading in, and the main roads slow sharply. A tour that starts in the morning, takes a long lunch at the beach and is back in town by mid-afternoon avoids most of it.

Four loops that work

Loop 1: Chora, the windmills and Little Venice

The shortest tour is on foot as much as by car. The chauffeur drops you at the edge of town, and you walk the lanes to Little Venice, where the houses sit right on the water, and up to the windmills on the ridge above it. The car collects you on the other side of town, so you never retrace your steps. On a hot day, this is a good first morning before the beaches, or a late-afternoon stroll ahead of dinner.

Loop 2: Ano Mera, the monastery and the east coast

Ano Mera is the island's inland village, which the municipality places about 8 km from Chora; our routed estimate is 9.2 km (5.7 mi) and about 14 minutes. Its square, pedestrianised and lined with cafes and tavernas, faces the historic monastery of Panagia Tourliani, the island's protector. From the village, the east-coast beaches are close: Kalafatis is about 4.4 km (2.7 mi) and 8 minutes away, and Elia about 4.8 km (3 mi), by our routed estimates. An unhurried lunch in Ano Mera and an afternoon swim on the east coast make an easy half day.

Loop 3: The Armenistis lighthouse and the north

The Armenistis lighthouse stands on the north-west tip of the island. According to the municipality, it was built in 1891 after the steamship Volta was wrecked in the dangerous currents west of Mykonos in 1887, and it is still a working light in the Hellenic Navy's lighthouse network, with views towards Delos and Tinos. It is only about 5.6 km (3.5 mi) and 13 minutes from town by our routed estimate, which makes it a good stop at either end of the day. Further along the north coast, Agios Sostis is about 8.3 km (5.2 mi) and 14 minutes from town, a quieter beach than the south coast offers.

Loop 4: The south-coast beaches

The south coast holds the beaches most visitors come for. The municipality's bus routes from Fabrika serve Platys Gialos, Psarou, Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Paradise and Paraga, which gives a sense of the line-up. Psarou is about 5 km (3.1 mi) and 10 minutes from town by our routed estimate. A car tour here is less about the drive than about timing: arriving before the beach clubs fill, leaving with your bags already in the car, and not queuing for a taxi at the club entrance at the end of the afternoon.

4. South-coast beachesPsarou, Platys Gialos, Paradise5 km / 10 min to PsarouHalf to full dayFull day from US$665

Most guests combine two loops in one booking: the lighthouse in the morning, lunch in Ano Mera and a swim on the east coast, for example, which fits comfortably inside the highlights tour. The desk turns your list into an order of stops when you book.

Delos: the boat, not the car

Delos, the sacred island of ancient Greece, is part of almost every Mykonos itinerary, and it is reached by boat from the old harbour of Mykonos Town, not by car. The municipality's Delos page says boats run every day, weather permitting, and warns that strong meltemi winds in summer and rough seas in winter can stop the crossing altogether. It advises checking with the port authority on the day.

What a car does well on a Delos day is the morning and the afternoon around it. The chauffeur drops you at the old harbour in time for your boat, the car stays free while you are on the island, and it collects you when the boat returns, then takes you on to the lighthouse for the late light or back to the villa. Booking by the hour covers the first and last legs; for a longer day, the full-day chauffeur keeps the same driver throughout.

Timing: when to go in the day and the season

Morning. The best time for the viewpoints and the town. The light is softer, the lanes are quieter, and the roads are clear.

Midday and early afternoon. Beach time. Book the car to drop you before lunch and set a collection time rather than hoping for a taxi when you are ready to leave.

Late afternoon in high season. The busiest hours on the roads. If you want the lighthouse at sunset, go early and wait there, rather than leaving town at the same time as everyone else.

Evening. For dinner in Chora or a beach club, the evening out and event night package, from US$450 in a business sedan to US$900 in an Executive Sprinter, keeps the car on call through dinner and the drive home. The chauffeur follows local rules on everything inside the vehicle.

The shoulder months are the easiest time for a tour. The island is calmer in late spring and early autumn, the roads are quieter, and a highlights tour fits easily into a morning. If you travel late in the year, check your flight days early, because the island's airport runs a reduced winter schedule, and plan the car around the flight.

Bus, taxi or a private car for a tour?

The municipality's transport page sets out the island's options plainly. KTEL buses leave from three points in town: Fabrika for the south beaches, the square behind the OTE building for Ano Mera, Kalafatis and Elia, and the old-port quay for the new port at Tourlos and Agios Stefanos. Taxis wait at ranks in front of the OTE building and at Fabrika, and fares depend on the distance travelled. A sea bus links the old and new ports every half hour for €2.

Uber appBooks a licensed island taxiRequesting without explaining an addressSame taxis, same summer shortage
Elly8.net highlights tourFrom US$360 per vehicle, fixedSeveral stops, waiting included, bags stay in the carMore than you need for a single trip

Uber's Mykonos taxi page explains that the app matches you with a licensed taxi driver, so it is another way of calling the same island taxis, not a separate fleet. For a single traveller heading to one beach, the bus is cheap and perfectly fine, and a taxi on a quiet afternoon is quick. For a tour with four or five stops, the arithmetic changes: each stop means a new taxi, a new wait and a new fare, and there is nowhere to leave the beach bags. A tour car waits at each stop, and the price is set before you go. For the broader reasoning, see chauffeur vs taxi and chauffeur vs Uber and Lyft.

Families, groups and villa guests

A Mykonos tour for a family of four or five usually means a Business SUV: six seats, room for beach bags and a stroller, and child or booster seats fitted on request if you give the children's ages when you book. For two families or a group of friends staying in one villa, the Executive Sprinter keeps everyone together, with the caveat above about narrow roads; where a van cannot reach a stop, the desk proposes two SUVs instead.

As arithmetic for comparison only, a US$720 Sprinter tour shared by ten people is US$72 each, but the price is per vehicle and is charged as one booking. Groups planning a villa weekend, a celebration or an incentive trip can bundle the airport arrival, the tour and evenings into one plan; see group transportation and Sprinter van with driver. Villa managers and travel agents book on account through travel agent accounts and hotel accounts.

Combining the tour with arrival or departure

Many guests fold a short tour into the first or last day. Mykonos Island National Airport is only about 5 km (3 mi) from town, and the fixed transfer costs from US$115 in a business sedan to US$300 in an Executive Sprinter, the same price in either direction. On departure day, with an evening flight and a midday hotel checkout, booking the car by the hour lets you keep the bags in the vehicle, see the lighthouse and Ano Mera, and go straight to the terminal. The desk works back from your flight time. See airport transfers for how the airport pickup works.

Mykonos is often one stop on a Greek island trip. If Santorini comes next, our guides to a Santorini private tour by car and a Santorini wine tour with a private driver cover the next island in the same way, and the Santorini chauffeur page lists its prices. Athens, usually the gateway, has its own Athens chauffeur and airport transfers page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a private tour of Mykonos take?

Most highlights tours take three to five hours, depending on how long you stop. The drives are short, about 13 minutes from town to the Armenistis lighthouse and 14 minutes to Ano Mera by our routed estimates. A full beach day with lunch suits the full-day chauffeur from US$665 in a business sedan.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle. The highlights tour costs from US$360 in a business sedan to US$720 in an Executive Sprinter, whatever the number of passengers up to the vehicle's seats. The fare is fixed in US dollars and includes the chauffeur, taxes and standard gratuity.

Can the car take us to Delos?

No, Delos is reached only by boat from the old harbour of Mykonos Town, and crossings depend on the weather. The chauffeur drops you at the harbour in time for your boat and collects you when it returns, then continues the tour if you have booked by the hour or for the day.

Can a Sprinter drive the whole tour?

Often, but not on every road. Many viewpoints and villas sit on narrow lanes. Before confirming an Executive Sprinter, the desk checks your stops with the local partner, and where a van cannot reach a stop, we suggest two SUVs or a meeting point on a wider road.

When is the best time of day for a tour?

Morning, for the viewpoints and the town while the roads are quiet. In July and August, avoid crossing the island in the late afternoon, when beach and dinner traffic meet. For the lighthouse at sunset, arrive early rather than leaving town with everyone else.

Are child seats available?

Yes. Ask for child or booster seats when you book and give the children's ages, and the partner fits them before pickup. A Business SUV seats up to six and leaves room for beach bags and a stroller on the island's narrow roads.
