A taxi from Málaga airport to Marbella runs on a meter, using the tariff Aena publishes for trips that start at the airport: on weekdays in daytime that is €1 per kilometre over a drive of about 53 km (33 mi) to Puerto Banús, with higher rates at night, at weekends and on holidays, plus luggage and any tolls. Uber and Bolt operate from a dedicated car park at the terminal and price by demand. A pre-booked black car through Elly8.net costs from US$235 in a business sedan, fixed and all-in, per vehicle.
Which one is cheapest depends on how many of you there are, what time you land and how much you are carrying. This post lays the four options side by side with the official numbers, does the arithmetic for typical groups, and says plainly when the taxi, the coach or an app ride is the smarter call.
How much is a taxi from Málaga airport to Marbella?
There is no flat fare. Airport taxis run on the meter at the official tariff: Fare 4 (weekday daytime) has a €17.37 minimum and €1 per km; Fare 5 is €1.21 per km; Fare 9 (late nights at weekends) is €1.38 per km. On 53 km, the distance alone is roughly €53 to €73 before luggage, waiting and tolls.
Those figures come from the Málaga airport taxi page run by Aena, the airport operator, and they are worth reading closely because three things push the final number up. A supplement of €0.56 applies per piece of luggage carried in the boot. Waiting time is charged by the hour (€23 on Fare 4, €28 on Fare 5, €30 on Fare 9), so slow traffic through Torremolinos and Fuengirola on a summer afternoon adds to the meter. And if the driver takes the AP-7 toll motorway, the toll is added.
The arithmetic above is ours, not a quote: it multiplies the published per-kilometre rate by the road distance and ignores everything else. Treat it as a floor. The honest summary is that a taxi to Marbella is a mid-double-digit to high-double-digit euro trip, that the exact figure is only known at the end, and that it changes with the clock.
Fare 5 covers weekday nights from midnight to 6 a.m. and from 10 p.m. to midnight (except Fridays and the eve of holidays), plus daytime at weekends and on public holidays. Fare 9 covers Friday and pre-holiday late evenings and weekend nights. Many transatlantic connections land on the Costa del Sol in the afternoon or evening, so check which band your arrival falls into.

The four options side by side
| Option | What you pay | Where you board | Door to door? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airport taxi | Metered: €1.00 to €1.38 per km plus supplements | Taxi rank at arrivals | Yes | One to four people, light luggage, no booking |
| Uber or Bolt | Price set by the app, varies with demand | Uber: Priority park T3, floor 0. Bolt: arrivals car park, floor 0 | Yes | App users comfortable waiting for a match |
| Coach to Marbella bus station | Per-person ticket from the operator | Floor 0, arrivals | No, taxi needed at the end | Solo travellers near the bus station |
| Elly8.net business sedan | US$235 fixed, per vehicle | Name board inside arrivals | Yes | Late arrivals, families, golf bags, fixed budgets |
The pickup points come from Aena's vehicles-for-hire page, which lists Uber at the Priority car park by T3 on floor 0 and Bolt in the arrivals car park on floor 0. That walk matters more than it sounds: with two trolleys of cases you are pushing luggage out of the terminal and into a car park to meet a driver you have not yet matched with.
Uber and Bolt: how app rides work at AGP
In Spain, app rides are provided by licensed hire vehicles with a driver (VTC), not by private cars, so the experience is closer to a booked car than in some North American cities. The app quotes a price before you confirm, and that price moves with demand. On a summer Saturday afternoon, when several charter and low-cost waves arrive together, demand at the airport can rise sharply and so can the quote.
The app-ride case is strongest when you land at a quiet hour with one or two people and carry-on bags. It is weakest when a long immigration queue has eaten your phone battery, when the group needs more than one car, or when the address is a villa that does not come up cleanly on a map. Rideshare prices are not published, so we do not quote one here; check the app on arrival and compare it with the numbers in this post.
The coach and the train: cheapest, with a catch
The coach is the bargain. Aena's bus page lists the Marbella-Airport line run by Avanzabus from floor 0 of arrivals to the bus station in Marbella, with tickets sold by the operator. For one traveller with a backpack staying near the bus station, it is hard to beat.
The catch is the last stretch. Marbella bus station sits above the town, and most hotels on the Golden Mile, the marina at Puerto Banús and the hillside villas are a taxi ride further. Add the wait for the coach and that second taxi, and the saving narrows quickly for two or more people.
The train is a partial answer at best. Marbella has no railway station, as the Marbella tourism office confirms. The C1 commuter line from the airport runs west along the coast to Fuengirola in about 34 minutes, according to Aena's train page, and single tickets on Renfe's Málaga fare table run from €2.05 to €3.60 depending on zones. From Fuengirola you still need a bus or taxi for the rest of the way to Marbella.
Real costs by group size
Prices on Elly8.net are per vehicle, never per person. The table below divides the fixed fare by group size purely as arithmetic, so you can line it up against per-person coach tickets and a metered taxi. The vehicle sizes come from our fleet page.
| Group | Suggested Elly8.net vehicle | Fixed fare AGP to Marbella | Arithmetic per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 adults, 2 cases | Business Sedan (3 passengers, 2 bags) | US$235 | about US$118 |
| 4 adults, 4 cases | Business SUV (6 passengers, 6 bags) | US$310 | about US$78 |
| Family of 5 with golf bags | Business SUV or First Class SUV | US$310 to US$380 | about US$62 to US$76 |
| 10 friends, 10 cases | Executive Sprinter (12 passengers, 12 bags) | US$615 | about US$62 |
The pattern is clear. For a couple travelling light at a weekday lunchtime, the metered taxi is likely to cost less than our business sedan. For four people with full luggage, a single SUV at a fixed price is in the same range as a taxi plus a second taxi for the bags, without the uncertainty. For a group of eight to twelve, one Sprinter usually beats a convoy of taxis or app rides on both cost and simplicity.
What a pre-booked black car includes
A Málaga airport transfer with Elly8.net is a fixed fare agreed before you fly and charged in US dollars. It includes the chauffeur, the vehicle, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet inside arrivals; tolls and parking are billed at cost. From AGP to Marbella and Puerto Banús the range is US$235 in a business sedan, US$310 in a business SUV, US$380 in a First Class SUV, US$415 in a First Class Sedan and US$615 in an Executive Sprinter. A round trip runs from US$450 to US$1,170.
The chauffeur tracks your flight, so a delayed connection through Madrid or London does not cost you anything extra: waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary. Child seats are fitted on request before pickup. The fare is the same in either direction, so the return to the airport for your departure costs the same.
Rides in Marbella and Malaga are operated by licensed, commercially insured local chauffeur partners vetted through the Limousine Worldwide network; Elly8.net takes the booking, fixes the price and runs the 24/7 desk.
When the taxi, coach or app ride is the smarter call
We would rather you book the right thing than the expensive thing. Take the taxi if you are one or two people, you land between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. on a weekday, and your hotel is on the coast road. Take the coach if you are travelling solo, light and staying close to Marbella bus station. Try the app if you are comfortable with the car-park walk, land at a quiet hour and want to see a price before committing.
Book a car in advance when any of these apply:
- You land late. Late-night weekend arrivals fall into the highest taxi band, and the rank can still have a queue.
- You are four or more, or carrying golf bags. One correctly sized vehicle beats two taxis.
- The address is a villa or gated estate. The chauffeur arrives with the address, gate instructions and your name on the guest list.
- You need a known number. Corporate travellers, families on a set budget and anyone expensing the trip benefit from a price fixed in advance.
- You have children. Seats are fitted before you land rather than negotiated at the kerb.
There is also a middle path worth knowing about. If you land at a quiet hour but want certainty for the return, take a taxi on arrival and pre-book only the departure. Airport fares on Elly8.net are the same in either direction, so the trip back to Málaga for a morning flight costs exactly what the arrival would have, and the pickup time is agreed in advance rather than left to a phone call on the last morning. Families often do the reverse: a booked car on arrival, when children are tired and cases are heavy, and a taxi to the airport if the flight leaves at a convenient daytime hour.

Toll road, coast road and the drive itself
Whichever car you choose, the drive west follows one of two roads. The free A-7 hugs the coast through Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, with roundabouts, junctions and beach traffic. The AP-7 toll motorway runs inland for much of the way and is usually quicker in summer. A metered taxi passes the toll on to you; an Elly8.net fare bills tolls at cost, so the difference is transparency rather than price.
Allow about 42 minutes on a clear road and noticeably more on July and August afternoons. If you want to break the journey for lunch in Mijas or a look at the coast, read our guide to Málaga to Marbella by private car, which covers stops and booking the trip by the hour.
Getting around once you arrive
Your transfer is only the first ride. In Marbella itself, short taxi trips are cheap and plentiful outside peak nights, and our separate post on Marbella taxi or rideshare covers the town's 2026 urban taxi tariff and when a car by the hour makes more sense. If Ronda is on your list, compare the train and the road in Málaga to Ronda: private car vs train.
The Marbella and Málaga city page has every published fare, including Gibraltar Airport from US$290 and the hourly rate of US$85 an hour in a business sedan (3-hour minimum). Groups heading for a wedding or a golf week should look at an Executive Sprinter with driver and group transportation.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a fixed taxi fare from Málaga airport to Marbella?
No. Taxis leaving the airport run on the meter at the official tariff, with a €17.37 minimum on the weekday daytime rate and €1 to €1.38 per km depending on day and time. Luggage in the boot, waiting time in traffic and any motorway tolls are added. The final fare is only known at the end of the trip.
Where do you meet an Uber at Málaga airport?
Aena lists the Uber meeting point at the Priority car park beside T3, floor 0, and Bolt in the arrivals car park, floor 0. You request the ride in the app after landing and walk to the car park to meet the driver. The price is shown before you confirm and varies with demand.
Is the coach a good option to Marbella?
For a solo traveller with light luggage staying near Marbella bus station, yes. The coach runs from arrivals to the bus station, and tickets are sold by the operator. Most hotels, the marina and villas need a taxi from the bus station, which narrows the saving for couples and families.
How much is a black car from Málaga airport to Marbella?
A fixed Elly8.net transfer costs from US$235 in a business sedan, US$310 in a business SUV and US$615 in an Executive Sprinter, per vehicle. The price includes the chauffeur, taxes, standard gratuity and meet and greet in arrivals. Tolls and parking are billed at cost, and the return trip costs the same.
What happens if the flight is delayed?
The chauffeur tracks your flight number and adjusts to the actual landing time. Waiting after a tracked landing is complimentary, so a late connection or a slow baggage hall does not change the fare. If the flight is cancelled or diverted, contact the 24/7 desk and the booking moves with you.
Can a booking be cancelled if plans change?
Yes. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup. A 10% fee applies at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show. Refunds go back to the card used to book.
